Hey Folks,
What Is The Competition?
As the Oscars are approaching, I'm going to run a competition here on the website to determine what STV readers think is the best film since 2000 that has been nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.
How Do I Play?
The first step is simple. We need to eliminate the nominees down to 32, so that we can do a knock-out style competition to find the ultimate film that Oscar voters have chosen as the best. To do this, there are all the polls from 2000 to present below, and you have to vote for your favourite two from 2000-2008 and your favourite three from 2009-present.
From here, the top three from all the polls, the top three from each year, barring the two lowest third placed films (to get the required 32) will reach the knockout rounds!
How Do I Win The $50 Prize From The Title?
Once the top 32 have been decided, we will be giving you the chance to predict the winner. If you guess the winner correctly, you will be put into a draw to win a fantastic $50 DVD voucher for Amazon.
Today though, is about finding those 32 Best Picture Films...
It's Time To Vote!
(remember you can nominated three shows from 2009-present and two shows from 2000-2008)
Remember to let us know who you voted for below in the comments, as well as theories on who could be the eventual winner!
You can email me at adamdharris@spoilertv.com with any questions!

Oh this is fun!
ReplyDelete2011 - The Artist, Hugo, Midnight In paris2010 - The King's Speech, Inception, Toy Story 32009 - The Hurt Locker, A Serious Man, Up2008 - Slumdog, Milk2007 - No Country, Atonement2006 - The Departed, Little Miss Sunshine2005 - Brokeback, Capote2004 - Million Dollar Baby, The Aviator2003 - Lord Of The Rings, Lost In Translation2002 - Lord of The Rings, The Pianist2001 - Lord of The Rings, Moulin Rouge!2000 - Gladiator, Crouching Tiger
I think one of the Lord of the Rings movie might win though if they all get to later stages could cancel each other out with split voting. Perhaps Toy Story or Up, they would also be worthy winners.
What this made me realise is damn some movies really lost out at the time. I will never forget Brokeback losing to Crash, outrageous!
I'm a little confused by the competition (I do understand the concept though) but it looks fun...I have no idea who will win but I'm thinking the more genred movies (LotR and Inception) will take it
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, great idea! Second, I think you could be right about Little Miss Sunshine - it's kind of a dark horse, but it was a great film that a lot of people appreciated and potentially identified with. I wouldn't mind seeing it in the finals!
ReplyDeleteGo Little Miss Sunshine! XD
ReplyDeleteThat was such an awesome movie that was overlooked by too much of the public!
Wow, this is hard!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree about the Lord of the Rings movies.
Oh, I like! Ok, here goes (I only nominated one film in each category cos I didn't read the rules first! *facepalm*):
ReplyDelete2011 - The Descendants
2010 - The King's Speech (this one's in my top 10 movies of all time. I cried. Lots.)
2009 - Up (Best movie Pixar has ever made, bar none!)
2008 - Slumdog Millionaire
2007 - Juno (How Atonement got nominated in this category, I will never know. The book is terrible, and the movie is worse. Not even James McAvoy could save it!)
2006 - Little Miss Sunshine
2005 - Good Night, and Good Luck
2004 - Finding Neverland
2003 - The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Oh Master and Commander. Any other year, you would definitely have been my number one!)
2002 - The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
2001 - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (why yes, I am a Tolkien fan!)
2000 - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Egads, I must rewatch this movie...so amazing!)
A lot of these I haven't seen, lol. Maybe like 7 or 8 tops. War Horse, Seabiscuit and Avatar are my favs.
ReplyDeleteVery good idea! Good luck everyone! May the best SpoilerAddict Win!

2003 - LotR: The Return of the King
2002 - LotR: The Two Towers
2001 - LotR: The Fellowship of the Ring

2003 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Mystic River
2002 Gangs of New York, The Hours
2001 The Lord of the Rings, Moulin Rouge
2000 Traffic, Gladiator
I think both Brokebaack and Crash should have lost to Good Night, and Good Luck personally....
ReplyDeleteWhy I love movies, something out there for everyone. I wish TV was still like that more so instead of so many channels doing the same things... with a twist.
Great idea!

2010 : Toy Story 3, Black Swan and The Fighter (what a great year, I loved all the nominated films !).
2009 : Inglorious Basterds, Up and Precious (I don't get the fuss around District 9 and I hated Avatar's story).

I think one of the LOTR movies will be win (deservedly so). I'd love The King's Speech to be in the running though.
BUT THEY HAS TEH TWIST AT TEH END OF TEH SYNOPSIS.
ReplyDeleteSO IT'S DIFFERENT, RITE?
lol Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
My personal Favorites: *not including all that I voted for since I'm short on time here*
ReplyDeleteNo Country for Old Men, Michael Clayton, Little Miss Sunshine, Inception, Lord of the Rings 1-3.
Hugo
ReplyDeleteInception / Toy Story 3 (which I was dragged to since I haven't seen TS 2, but found absolutely touching)
Avatar / Blind Side
Slumdog Millionaire
Juno
Little Miss Sunshine
Good Night and Good Luck
Aviator / Finding Neverland
Mystic River / Seabiscuit (although it was hard not to vote for LotR 3 - best one)
Absolutely nothing in 2002 - disliked or didn't see all of them (including LotR 2)
Gosford Park (by default)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
In all honesty though, with the exception of maybe 3, these would not come close to my favorite movie I saw that year. The movies I really like rarely get nominated.
Voted. I'm thinking tLotR as a whole trilogy it would be hard to pick just one of them, but I also think Slumdog Millionaire has a decent shot as well.
ReplyDeleteThe Help
ReplyDeleteThe King's Speech
The Blind Side
Slumdog Millionaire
No Country for Old Men
The Departed
Crash
Finding Neverland
Lost In Translation
The Hours
Gosford Park
Gladiator
What a list! Need a little time to think about my choices...
ReplyDeleteLove the idea, let's play :-)
ReplyDelete2011 : the tree of life / the artist / hugo /
2010 : the king speech / winter's bone /
2009 : the blind side / the hurt locker
2008 : the curious case of benjamin button / the reader
2007 : no country for old men
2006 : the queen / letters from iowa jima
2005 : crash / good night and good luck
2004 : million dollar baby
2003 : mystic river / seabiscuit
2002 : TLOTR : the two towers
2001 : A Beautiful Mind
2000 : Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
I think inception, avatar, slumdog millionaire and LOTR are going to win.
Those were good movies, no doubt, but I think some of them like avatar or slumdog millionaire are overrated.
I was more impressed by little gems like "the king speech", "the queen", "crash", million dollar baby" or "A Beautiful Mind".
Those movie made me cry and laugh and I remember them vividly.
There are a lot of good movies in this list and there always are a lot of good movies not nominated, but why the hell they didn't nominate City of God in 2004 is still a riddle to me. Easily one of the best movies of the century (top 3 for me) and by far the best in 2004.
ReplyDeleteThe Pianist, Brokeback mountain, The Kings Speech, A Beautiful Mind are all great.
ReplyDeleteI so agree about Avatar and District 9!
ReplyDeleteAvatar may be one of the most overrated movies of all time! Great VFX for sure, but they could not overcome the derivative story and bland writing..
Glad you put Traffic in there... when I voted no one had voted for ti yet besides me....
2011- 2000:
ReplyDeleteMoneyball; Toy Story 3/Inception; Avatar; Never saw 2008-2004's; The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King; LOTR:TT; LOTR:FotR ( of the 3 hard to say but i think i liked character wise FotR the best and story wise RoK. Two towers i loved especially because it had saruman as the main antagonist, but didnt have a whole lot of gandalf in it. overall i would say i liked the 1st the best since it had good story and pretty much all the characters in it the only one it missed mainly was gollum.
Not on my top 3, but one of the best movies of the century I agree!
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking and terrifying.
And I do remember that most of the actors were residents of favelas.
