We'll also be updating this to indicate when a show is picked up to Series and when the show is cancelled/abandoned. Thanks to EW and FutonCritic for supplying some of the show descriptions.

A very handy consultable table.
ReplyDeleteI must say that, strangely enough, the CW pilots seem the most interesting.
This is really really helpful. Thanks for doing this.
ReplyDeleteNot many interest me but then again only Alcatraz, The River and Person of Interest interested me last year.
In no particular order:
ReplyDelete1 - Goodfellas - AMC
Given AMC's track record lately + the need for more mobster drama's on TV, I'd say this shows great promise.
2 - Bates Motel - A&E
This could turn out terribly, but I'm still curious....
3 - LA Noir - TNT
Don't know anything about the book, but the prospect of a noir series is intriguing
4 - Anything Louis CK does will be worth a look
Not enough info about the rest - need to see who is show-running/producing/wtiting/acting to really say much. But thanks for this - look forward to updates.
This might help you.

Untitled Roland Emmerich = Antichrist
ReplyDeleteThe one show that hasn't been picked up is the one I'm most interested in. Area 51.
ReplyDeletewhat about the river is a tv series or only web
ReplyDeleteCheers Baff, nice one.
ReplyDeleteHa me too.
ReplyDeleteCool - I'll take a look!
ReplyDeleteThe River is not a pilot. The river has already been ordered to Series.
ReplyDeleteThese are all pilot shows.
No problem. Hope you find it useful
ReplyDeleteDisqus generic email templateok means that networks sugested a producer for a series making following there requierements.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, shadowy unidentified flying object !
ReplyDeletePilots of interest (I'll add a synopsis if it's not in the list yet) :
I - Cable :
1 - The Americans : FX + actually original/ambitious story = yummy.
2 - Blood & Chrome (SyFy) : a Battlestar Galactica prequel (a TV movie/pilot is being produced).
3 - The Corrections : hard to have an idea of what the show will be, but the cast's amazing, and it's HBO.
4 - LA Noir (TNT) : Great people behind the show, although I'm not sold on the lead actor at all.
5 - Goodfellas (AMC) : I really hope have something to talk about that is not in the movie already.
6 - Defiance (SyFy) : humans and aliens co-exist in a war-torn world.
7 - Legit (FX) : a comedy about a misanthropist trying to become an honest person.
8 - Gateway (TNT) : western about 3 brothers trying to save their town after the sherif (their father) is killed.
9 - Rewind (SyFy) : to avoid a disastrous terrorist attack, scientists and soldiers go back in time.
I'd usually pay attention to Showtime series but I really have no interest in Masters of Sex or Ray Donovan. It would be amazing if HBO's comedy All Talk (written by and starring Ben Stiller !) gets a series order.
I loathe SyFy, which hasn't done anything good ever except the brilliant Battlestar Galactica & Caprica, but I have to admit Defiance and Rewind do sound pretty good, and the BSG prequel too, obviously. Hopefully Rewind won't pull a Terra Nova.
II - Network TV dramas :
1 - Williamson/Bacon thriller (FOX) : The pitch's not bad and the Kevins behind the show make it very interesting.
2 - Last Resort (ABC) : Shawn Ryan on ABC, that's unexpected, but he's good, it'll pull it off.
3 - Ex-Comm (ABC) : I cannot help but have concerns about the ambition of such a show on a network like ABC.
4 - Beautiful People (NBC) : Sounds like the movie I, Robot, which I like so I'm intrigued, but can that kind of show last long ?
5 - Bad Girls (NBC) : Great ! But despite John Wells, it cannot become a great show on network TV.
6 - Roland Emmerich sci-fi thriller (ABC) : Emmerich makes cheesy movies but it does sound a little ambitious.
7 - Cult (CW) : If it's not too procedurish (the CW has many flaws but that's not of them), it could be good.
8 - The Frontier (NBC) : It sounds good on paper.
9 - Zero Hour (ABC) : Always good to have a conspiracy series, but let's be cautious, Paul Scheuring is producing.
10 - Do Not Harm (NBC) : If the main character really is complex, it could work… but ambiguity on network TV ?
11 - Gotham (ABC) : Although I don't think it'll get ordered (there's already Once Upon a Time for the fairytale world).
11 - Midnight Sun (NBC) : It could become a decent miniseries for sure.
12 - The Munsters remake (NBC), aka Mockingbird Lane : Interested because of the Bryans behind the show (Singer/Fuller).
13 - The Selection (CW) : So The CW has heard about The Hunger Games, apparently. I'm worried about the romance thing.
The thing is, if a a show sounds ambitious, there's a 90% chance it doesn't make it past the pilot on network TV (and if it does, it doesn't last long on the air). Unless an ambitious show has a big name attached to it, it's likely to never get in a big network's lineup. I'll go back to this message in a few months to see if I'm right, but I'm afraid so. If, say, 6 of these 13 pilots make it to series, I'll be happy.
Network TV comedies (it's always harder to imagine what a sitcom can be like, so I've selected only a very few of them) :
1 - Save Me (NBC) : It has potential and originality, although I restrain myself from thinking NBC will order comedy pilots (stick with Community !).
2 - American Judy (ABC) : It doesn't sound good but there's Judy Greer so I'm sold.
3 - The Dan Fogelman pilot (ABC) : I'm picturing the show in my head and it could be absolutely awful or deliciously offbeat.
Shows I'm intrigued by
ReplyDeletex 666 Park - Could be interestingx Anti-Christ - Again maybe interesting maybe rubbish who knows!x Gotham - ABC sure like their fantasy/Supernatural showsx Cult - Meta overload!x Untitled Kevin Williamson Project - purely for Kevin Baconx Revolution - oh yesx The Frontier - Historical might workx The Munsters - Bryan Fuller I have no idea what you are doing with this but I do love youx Goodfellas - Could do with a good Mafia showEvery HBO pilot because duh its not TV its HBO!
Shows that should die a death
x Only Fools & Horses & Bad Girls - STOP IT WITH THE BRITISH REMAKES
x The Carrie Diaries - Gah
x Elementary - Die
You are missing Syfy's Rewind and Defiance.
ReplyDeleteAny word on if the upcoming Canadian shows Continuum or Primeval: New World will get picked up in the U.S.?
Has there been any word on Blood & Chrome in the last 6 months?
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, that is a lot!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many will be picked up.
Did AMC pick up Goodfellas to pilot? that would actually surprise me, I think it's just in development, but I might be wrong. I'm also pretty sure Scar Tissue at FX is only in development, but not picked up to pilot yet. Actually, I'm only sure The Americans was picked up so far, the Powers pilot has been show a while ago and now they are deciding whether or not to do re-shoots and how to continue with it.
ReplyDeleteYep, sorry, I should have mentioned that these are also ones that are in development as well and likely to be given a pilot order.
ReplyDeleteanti-christ, 666 park and last season of Dexter... demons became popular recently...
ReplyDeleteAlright, thanks for clarifying!
ReplyDeleteI agree for the most part about US remakes or British shows, but I am intrigued by Kevin Spacey in House of Cards on Netflix....
ReplyDeleteWow! A lot of these look really interesting! Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteThat I can deal with because its Kevin Spacey and he is classy but its when the big networks remake that I end up getting annoyed.
ReplyDeleteHow can ABC and CW have a show called Beauty and the Beast
ReplyDeleteThey are two different shows
ReplyDeletehmm just seems weird that two networks will have a show of the same name lol
ReplyDeleteHa , I know. I had to double check that I'd not made a mistake :)
ReplyDeleteNBC, where the Saving Hope on your list? O.o
ReplyDeleteis it only drama pilot in here where are the comedy pilots
ReplyDeleteIt should be all pilots.
ReplyDeleteSuper excited about Booster Gold (especially if they use the guy from Smallville, Eric Martsolf, I definitely think that the DCU whether live action or animated could use some continuity as of late). I won't watch Arrow b/c Justin Hartley is The Green Arrow, no one else can compare now.
ReplyDeletecould other pilots be picket up or is it just them
ReplyDeleteThis is the current list that we know of. If others come along we will add them
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by:
ReplyDeleteLA Noir (TNT)
Revolution (NBC-JJ Abrams)
Kevin Williamson Project with Kevin Bacon (FOX)
The Frontier (NBC)
Last Resort (ABC)
The Munsters (because of Bryan Fuller- NBC)
Cult (the CW)
Scar Tissue (FX)
And I can't be interested about new comedies (except may be from Ben Stiller) until I am sure about the renewal of Community!
at the moment i'm only interested in how many will get picked up on the CW because Nikita is my fave show and a likely to be cancelled :'( so heres my view of the CW ones
ReplyDeleteArrow - no justin Hartley so meh couldnt really care they just wanna bring back smallville fans
Beauty and the Beast - seriously, ANOTHER one! sick of this story already ABC has 1 too and the movies back in 3D and Beastly was awful...
Cult - sounds a hell of alot like Castle in the first ep... so im not really interested and it probably wont be as funny or will not suit the CW (much like Nikita) but that does make it a hopeful to keep Nikita in if the CW want to try and be more mature! so im on the fence
First Cut - seriously, another young doctor show? and this one is basically crossed with scrubs and probably wont be as funny... isnt Hart of Dixie 1 of the lower shows anyway?
Joey Dakota - sounds really weird like spirited (an aussie show, pretty good) crossed with doctor who... dont like the sound of it but it may not be as awkward as it sounds...
Shelter - sounds a hell of alot like tons of other shows so please not another one
The Carrie Diaries - If they put this on they sure as hell better cancel gossip girl and/or 90210 coz I dont think i can take so much of the same type of thing...
The selection - this is the only 1 im looking forward to because its DIFFERENT but they probably wont do it right and itll be horrible
so basically its alot of the same, the CW trying to take off other popular shows to keep afloat. The less that get greenlighted the better in my opinion but it all depends on what theyre gunna cancel
saving hope is not a pilot its a series for this summer and NBC is just paying to air it canada produces it
ReplyDeleteABC was considering an American version of Spirited, but it didn't get picked up to pilot. Maybe next year.
ReplyDeleteJoey Dakota struck me more as a cross between Spirited and Life on Mars.
havn't seen life on mars may hav to look it up :)
ReplyDeleteIs Mockingbird Lane dead? Last I heard it had just been pushed to a possible mid-season pickup.
ReplyDeleteyeah i think its delayed to film after the current pilot season but alot of the time these delays to summer end up being further bumped to next season
ReplyDeleteOk, so the "no" on the chart is "no for 2012", rather than a "no, never, not gonna happen". Thanks.
ReplyDeleteChicago Fire looks good.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing at least 3/4 of these pilots get picked up to series for the fall. I also expect Ringer, Nikita, HOD all to be cancelled.
ReplyDeletePicked up-Arrow, The Selection, Beauty and the Beast, The Carrie Diaries
Why don't you include ABC's Mistresses? I know ABC originally picked it up for a 10 episode run for the summer of 2013, but I've read on deadline.com and a recent tweet from 1 of the show's stars, Alyssa Milano, that ABC may actually include it among their fall or midseason shows. I therefore, believe it should be included with the other ABC pilots.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, several I will be watching, but wish it had been full page so did not have to do all the scrolling.
ReplyDeleteIf Arrow had Justin Hartley I would be a fan already, that was really dumb on CW part. Wonder if he was even offered the part?
ReplyDeleteDespite the lack of buzz, Shelter is a JJ Abrams show. I'd be surprised if the CW passes up on it in favor of some of their pilots.
ReplyDeleteBy the way I'm pretty sure 'Powers' on FX has already been picked up and they've shot a first season. Pretty sure.
ReplyDeleteAh you sure? I thought it was still just ordered to Pilot? If you can find a link/info please let me know and I'll update the Spreadsheet
ReplyDeleteMistresses is missing...I read it was being considered for fall..
ReplyDeleteWhich network was it planned to be on?
ReplyDeleteWhat was the pilot episode will air as a stand-alone movie sometime this year, but it wasn't picked up as a series. That's the latest word.
ReplyDelete1600 Penn-NBC-Staffing
ReplyDeleteFriday Night Dinner-NBC-Staffing
Guys With Kids-NBC-staffing
Revolution-NBC-staffing
CW are planning on picking up 5 or 6 pilots and keeping several of their bubble shows all for a more cable like schedule with lots of shows with shorter seasons.
USA Network has "GRACELAND". That should be listed in this chart.
ReplyDeleteThanks kyle, do you have any links to any info about this show?
ReplyDeleteI'll update the spreadsheet tomorrow
Great job with that table!
ReplyDeleteI might be interested by:
"last ressort" (interesting plot+Shaw Ryan on the writing team.) on ABC
"Hannibal" (if the casting is good) on NBC
"Revolution" (post-apocalypse universe+jj abrams and E.kripke) on NBC
"true detective" on HBO
Neil Gaiman "american Gods" on HBO is still in project? And what about the Dark tower adaptation?
No, Justin Hartley was not offered the part (He would have done it gladly, or so little angry birdies were buzzing). He really loved being a part of The CW family and was bummed that the Aquaman show didn't get the green light and loved being on Smallville. When he talked about Smallville and playing the Green Arrow you could always tell he was genuinely enthusiastic. They should have just done the live action version of Justice League (like they had been building up to) instead we get this really trite and watered down version of Green Arrow. I'm going to give this show 3 episodes to wow me(just because I am DC superhero fanatic) and if it doesn't I won't look back. In other words: I thought it was a super stupid mistake as well.
ReplyDeleteI was pretty sure that HOD was getting a second season as of this morning but who knows, I don't watch that show. I think Nikita will get a short order pass to wrap up loose ends as well as Gossip Girl and then comes The Carrie Diaries (we all KNOW that show is so getting picked up, although I don't think it will get spectacular ratings, the Sex & The City era is dead, most fans don't even want a third movie, they've milked this franchise to death). As for Shelter, JJ's style is not really suited for The CW (they are dead set on (even though they are failing miserably) on reaching the golden demographic) IMHO. The Selection sounds interesting but I am fairly sure that the execution will be done poorly or worse have yet another dreaded love triangle. As for all the others if they get picked up they will more than likely be one season wonders.
ReplyDeleteI usually give a show 3 tries also and only 3 series have ever hooked me on the first ep, Supernatural, Veronica Mars & Roswell.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for The Following, this sounds good!
ReplyDeletethey are the same show name was changed
ReplyDeleteHa! Thanks Tariqq,i was looking all over for it!
ReplyDeleteWe're like twins... I love SPN, am still pissed about how abruptly they canned Veronica Mars and Roswell was so under rated it was ridiculous. Never could understand how more people didn't watch it but swooned over Dawson's Creek.
ReplyDeleteI know and the pilot for VM season 4 looked so good. I liked Dawson's Creek, but never wanted to watch it again. My DVDs of VM, SPN & Roswell have been played many, many times.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you watch Family Guy but last week's episode Stewie picked up a DVD (Charlie St. Cloud) and it had a lot of finger prints and he was all like 'Who's handling their copy of Charlie St.Cloud this much?' And I glanced over at my Roswell DVD's and they were smudged to high hell. I've actually been doing a rewatch of VM on Soap Net channel even though I have a collector's edition of VM. I love the show THAT much. Dawson's Creek grew on me long after it was over. But that theme song sucks! I cringe every time I hear it.
ReplyDeleteThe only cartoon show I watch is Archer and I am also watch VM on soap, easier than getting the disk out. lol
ReplyDeleteI have to go out and feed my "kids", baby squirrels, that is my other passion, raise and release orphans.
Hmm I didn't here that Shelter wasn't picked up...Is that really official?
ReplyDeleteOMG!! 666 Park Ave was picked up?? Yeahhhh!!
ReplyDeleteWhen are CBS announcing pilots being picked up? I mean they have got 18 shows renewed already lol
ReplyDeleteAmericana NO?
ReplyDeleteNo, sorry.
ReplyDeleteNo, sorry.
ReplyDeleteIf the "picked up" field is empty does that mean, it hasn't been decided yet? I'm thinking of ABC since their pickups have been announced already.
ReplyDeleteThe Selection must have been really dreadful for CW to have passed on it.
Yep basically. Green = Picked up, Black means no pickup, blank no news yet.
ReplyDeleteWas their a particular one you were thinking of? Try press CTRL-F5 in case your browser is caching an old copy of the data
Ahh, thanks. I was wondering about Scruples because it was black and blank but I see it's 'no' now.
ReplyDeleteAh yes. Basically if you find any others "black" but blank assume it's a No and we just forgot to be the words no in ;)
ReplyDeleteSAD!
ReplyDeletegreat job, guys!
ReplyDeleteHowever, are you sure that Shonda Rhimes' pilot has not been picked up by ABC? (Gilded Lilies)?
A lot of serial killer dramas! :O
ReplyDeleteI think The Dark Tower adaptation is tied to the movie production. If that doesn't take off, neither will the series.
ReplyDeleteespecially the horizontal scrolling
ReplyDeleteI've made a list of the 15 titles I will be keeping an eye on the most (not in order of preference though).
ReplyDelete666 Park Ave.Red WidowThe FollowingDo No HarmHannibalInfamousRevolutionIndie Game (?)True DetectiveRewind (?)The Adjustment Bureau (?)High Moon (?)Goodfellas (?)Bates Motel (?)Low Winter Sun
(?) indicated a title that (at the time of writing) haven't been picked up yet.
I will keep tinkering with this list and then aim to watch about 15 pilots in the new season. Then I will whittle that down to about 8-10 shows, which I will stick with for a few more episodes. Then I'll probably drop a few more after a couple of weeks and stick with a core of about 5-7 shows (on top of the few I already watch).
By the way. I'm not overly familiar with the system. If a show has been labelled as 'No' (not picked up), does that mean the end of the line for that show, or will it be touted around other networks with the possibility of being picked up by someone else? Not that it would affect my list much. The one's curretnly shown in black sound awful.
Well they have to follow like sheep and try to find a Dexter. lol
ReplyDeletehahaha, yes. I think if Dexter continues falling, one these wannabes might actually beat them. As of now, I think the best thing about Dexter is the brilliant Michael C Hall.
ReplyDeleteI'm so bitter about Americana.
ReplyDeleteabc
ReplyDeleteThanks. Not sure what Prue was referring to as it's in our Spreadsheet :)
ReplyDeleteAny updates for some of these? What about Area 51, Bates Motel and Adjustment Bureau?
ReplyDeleteNo, no more info on those at present. We'll probably not hear much on these for a while.
ReplyDeleteI know and the pilot for VM season 4 looked so good. I liked Dawson's Creek, but never wanted to watch it again. My DVDs of VM, SPN & Roswell have been played many, many times.
ReplyDelete
