Sounds awesome to me! Each season just gets better and better! What do you expect from Kurt Sutter? He works on and in The Shield, one of the best shows and best season and series finales in the history of television!
For a show like SOA, renewing it for two more seasons is a good thing because each season just gets better and better. But renewing two more seasons for other shows, where one season is pretty good, the next two are okay, and the next one after that is pretty good, is just a terrible idea. But yeah, I like you're thinking, Spartigus15!
I did read a tweet and article about the guest stars for the next two seasons. I personally thought it would take two years at least to wrap up the current storyline.
Nice, although it's hardly a surprise, the show was not going to start flopping next season, and even if it did, the show would never, ever sink to such bad ratings that FX would have to cancel it. But it certainly gives more creative liberty to Kurt Sutter, if he had any doubt he would not be able to continue his story of a sixth season.
Season 7 of SoA is not a sure thing yet, but given the track record of the show (highest-rated series ever on FX), it's likely Kurt Sutter (who signed a personal contract through season 7) will get what he wants. The Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/sons-of-anarchy-renewed-kurt-sutter-fx-287031 ) says Sutter is actually open to continuing the show after season 7, but on cable it's much more expensive to produce a show after 7 seasons. It basically means Sutter's got no master plan on how his show will end. I'm a little disappointed, if he had firmly said "7 seasons and that's it", that would have been better. Maybe he wants 7 seasons just to do like The Shield (and Nip/Tuck and Rescue Me). Well, I trust him (although he frustrated me in the season 4 finale) but he better use the creative liberty he's allowed to plan a decent ending for his show and not even consider season 8 or season 9.
The series has been set up as a three act play (not entirely dissimilar to Hamlet) and each two seasons comprise one Act of the complete story. We just completed Act II and Season5 begins Act III.
i feel like its fairly rare that they do offer multiple seasons to a show unless...it is a monster smash/hit. Like Big Bang Theory i feel like that was unprecedented to renew for 5 seasons. Its still awesome and holding amazing numbers. I mean it killed AI that first week. and is holding strong still.
Awesome show indeed. In my all time top 10, and closer to the 5th than the 10th place.
Season 5 of The Shield is, without the shred of a doubt, one of the very best seasons of TV I've ever seen in my life. Season 4 had a few disappointing episodes at the beginning and the end (I loved episodes 4.05 to 4.10), I'm not too keen about several parts of season 6 (episodes 4 to 9, minus episode 6) and there were unnecessary complications in season 7 (with the cartel and everything) but overall, The Shield is must-see TV.
If you haven't seen them yet (I bet you have), you should watch Terriers and The Chicago Code, two short-lived copshows by Shawn Ryan. They've both only lasted 13 episodes but those were 13 fantastic episodes, and the ending of both shows works fine as a series finale. Shawn Ryan is the man.
I actually haven't seen The Chicago Code but I have and liked Terriers. Sucks that show got cancelled. Shawn Ryan is indeed the man. Season Five was probably the best season of The Shield, I think, because of both Lem and Kavanaug. Watching the first four seasons, you already know that Lem is loyal and has a conscience but Season 5 really shows you that he DOES have one and that he IS the most loyal of the members of the Strike Team. As for Kavanaug, Forest Whitaker played that role so well, that he should have gotten an award or something for it. The Shield is number two of my all time favorite TV shows. Have you seen The Unit? I thought that Shawn Ryan did well with that series, too.
I still cannot see Kenny Johnson on a series without uttering "Poor Lem" aloud and sighing! XD
I watched The Unit, but it never drew me in as much as The Shield, Terriers or The Chicago code.... It was good fun for the first couple seasons, but I lost interest fast. Just like Lie to Me.
I'm rewatching The Shield now (because every once in awhile, I need to do that) and I find it so hard to single out episodes that I like more, or less, than others. Say that I watch 1 or 2 episodes a day, I feel so captivated by the flow of the story that it just starts to feel like one very long episode! I think it's because I was late to the show, in the way that I only started watching (well, I only learned of its existence) when the show itself was long over. So the only way that I've ever watched the Shield, is as a multiple episodes a day experience :-). The lines between episodes get pretty blurry at that point.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
That is great news love this show

Of course! Happy to hear, especially since Sutter has a seven year plan in mind. Can't wait to return to Charming already!
ReplyDeleteFantastic news indeed. In Kurt Sutter we trust!
