No surprise at all really. I think them playing up the Horror angle really limited their demographic. Even though Horror is more popular on TV now than ever before it still have a fairly limited appeal to most viewers. I know more than a few people that were interested when they thought it was more thriller or mystery and then decided not to watch it because of the Horror elements highlighted in the promos.
Plus a lot of the ads came off feeling like LOST which is a bad thing to some people too. Personally I wish it was more like LOST! XD
Maybe good word of mouth will give it a boost, although I know some people disliked it even more than me. I thought it was fairly good, but not my style....
The good news is with only 8 episodes I would hope ABC will air the entire series no matter if they pick it up for Season 2 or not!
Is it surprising though, weren't the first two episodes put on line for people to watch in advance? if people have seen it then live viewing figures were bound to be low. Will be more interested to see how the next episode goes down.
Well on one hand i'm surprised yet on the other not so, a lot of people already viewed in online,i think too many people are still waiting to see a LOST show(me included) instead they got horror as close to it as you will get on network tv.
On the other hand,at least they are trying to bring something different, again i am just glad it is only 8 episodes long, but i do hope for another season, and this time no viewing online, please.
TVBTN aren't suggesting it is likely to be as much as a flop as I feared from the headline, but I guess it is still too early to call. Will wait for the final figures.
I think they will air it all, they have been good at airing Pan Am despite the decline in ratings so yeah maybe it will work okay as a mini-series type thing
That's sad to hear, I was really entertained by the premiere. I get that they might've niched themselves by really promoting the horror/supernatural-ish nature of the show, but that is what it is and perhaps were hopeful with the reception that AHS got. Still I hope that the ratings improve and I'm fine with the show running a "short season" of 8 eps, and wouldn't mind the same if it gets picked up for a second season. I do wonder about it's prospects for longevity, as it does feel like it's ideal for a mini series kind of event, imho.
I did not get thru ep 2, I like a series that moves faster, like TVD, SPN or Revenge, this just did not hold my interest. Wanted to like it, but took it off my DVR.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Fuck! It was so good, too.
ReplyDeleteLoved this show. Hope the numbers are better than the early estimates
ReplyDeleteI really like it. Maybe it should have been on the scifi channel to gain more fans that would appriciate the type of dram it is?
ReplyDeleteI agree, we'll post the numbers soon. We should have the full overnight numbers in about 2hrs
ReplyDeletenooooooooooooo :( Although, I think it's a good show for a web series ... Obviously maybe not from ABC, but Syfy maybe.
ReplyDeleteI predicted a 1.8 ish A 18-49 which would be considered a disaster ABC, but we shall see

ReplyDeleteonline episodes typically raise the viewership for the premiere by building more hype see smash and revenge
ReplyDeleteOh, ok then. Guess that backfired after all!

ReplyDeleteKG, language (just teasing). I didn't think this would be up your alley.
ReplyDeleteI love stuff like this! I end up terrified, but I love them. I've been watching horror movies with my mom since I was three!
ReplyDeleteOuch! Yeah that would be a terrible premiere!
ReplyDeleteI'm most likely being harsh
ReplyDeleteHH numbers are up on TVBTN but obviously they dont tell us anything about how the show did in the all important demo rating
