-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS dominated this second Friday in February, beating the No. 2 network (NBC in total viewers; ABC among adults 18-49) by 4.99 million viewers and just one-tenth of a rating point (or seven percent) in the demo, according to Nielsen. CBS’ dominance, no doubt, stems from the older audience.

On the fence Eye net drama A Gifted Man, which will finish the remainder of its freshman season in the Friday 9 p.m. hour beginning next week, opened with 8.81 million viewers (#1) and a third-place 1.2/ 4 among adults 18-49 (tied with Kitchen Nightmares on Fox) at 8 p.m. If CBS decides not to renew A Gifted Man, female-driven cable networks like Lifetime or Hallmark Channel should express interest. Next was veteran CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 10.34 million; A18-49: #1, 1.7/ 5 at 9 p.m.), which is heading on a brief hiatus, followed by the most-watched show of the evening, Blue Bloods (Viewers: #1, 11.77 million; A18-49: #1, 1.8/ 5 at 10 p.m.).



On ABC, Shark Tank at 8 p.m. is now the series to beat among adults 18-49 in the 8 p.m. hour, with a 1.8/ 6 (and a second-place finish in total viewers – 5.91 million). Next on the alphabet net was Primetime: What Would You Do?, which dipped to third in both total viewers (4.62 million) and adults 18-49 (1.5/ 4) at 9 p.m., followed by granddaddy 20/20 at a compatible 5.16 million viewers (#3) and a 1.4/ 4 in the demo (#3) at 10 p.m..

Over at NBC, Who Do You Think You Are? scored a typical 5.53 million viewers (#3) and a 1.2/ 4 among adults 18-49 (#3t) at 8 p.m., followed by freshman drama Grimm at 5.24 million viewers (#2) and a 1.6/ 5 in the demo (#2) at 9 p.m. Worth positively noting for Grimm, of course, was the 33 percent gain among adults 18-49. Capping off the evening on NBC was Dateline, which ran neck-and-neck opposite 20/20 at 5.18 million viewers (#2) and a 1.5/ 4 in the demo (#2) at 10 p.m.



Elsewhere, Fox finished fourth overall with its combination of Kitchen Nightmares (Viewers: #4, 3.56 million; A18-49: #2, 1.5/ 5), which is being replaced by new Gordon Ramsay series Hotel Hell on April 6, and Fringe (Viewers: #4. 3.03 million; A18-49: #4, 1.1/ 3), which is likely to conclude this spring. And The CW aired its low-rated pairing of Nikita (Viewers: 1.45 million; A18-49: 0.5/ 2) and Supernatural (Viewers: 1.85 million; A18-49: 0.7/ 2), which each finished fifth.

Fortunately, the broadcast networks are not about to abandon Friday. But this evening sure is not what it used to be.

    Nooo, Fringe is down again. It barely reaches 3 Mio, not to mention the demo... It has better ratings here in Germany than in America. That's just sad.

    I don't get it... I really don't... Is it because people went out to celebrate Valentine's day early? Since it is on Tuesday? *Scratches head* What do people watch on tv? Fringe is smart, I watch it over all the reality stuff, which I don't like with a passion...

    I honestly think Fox shot themselves in the foot by putting Fringe on at the same time as Supernatural. Many of its audience watches both shows so we have to choose between one or the other to watch as it airs, it just means both shows suffer. Whoever thought it was a good idea was just plain stupid.

    Really don't get how Supernatural is under the not positive category. It was the second most watched show in terms of overall viewers and third in 18-49 with the possibility of it being adjusted up  which would put make in 2nd for the week in that category.

    I know in the grand scheme of ratings its not good but are people really holding CW to the same standard as the other networks. It's highest rated show is in the 1.2-1.5 range for 18-49

    I don't post very often when it comes to ratings, but it's an extremely sad day when Fringe continues to drop and/or stay steady at a very low rating. I mean, it does have some competition with CSI: New York and Grimm. However, how can you validate wanting to watch CSI: New York which is comparable to every other CSI show and a simple procedural?! Grimm on the other hand I can slightly understand.. It's a more mythological/mystery/ show like Fringe. However, it's a shame to see such a brilliant show ( one of the most brilliant in the past decade ) be on the brink of cancellation. It's a crime against American Television and I almost want to walk outside and continuously ask people: "Are you watching Fringe friday nights at 9?" and If the answer is "No, what's that" punching them in the face and responding with "What are you doing with your life?". Wyman and Pinkerer have delivered non stop brilliance left and right. THEY ARE the equivalent of Lindelof and Cuse ( ironically another Bad Robot pairing ). 

    Honestly, I'm going to go out on a limb and say what really hurt Fringe when hitting it's end of the first season/second season stride was all the competition on that night. It detracted more and more people from watching it and then getting hooked. And while the writers would like to say people should be able to jump in and pick up what's going on, this is like LOST... you can't. However, watching one slightly confusing episode of this show SHOULD make you want to go back and watch all the previous seasons and episodes on DVD, Netflix, whatever. This will be one of the shows 10 years from now ( when American Television is dwindling due to all the reality garbage and lack of scripted shows ) that people really miss. That showed how a phenomenal mystery/sci-fi show can be done. 

    I keep on believing their is a slight glimmer of hope. Not huge... but slight. Why you may ask? Warner Bros. has claimed already they are STRONGLY confident the show will continue for a 5th season. And honestly... I think it will as well. Again, why you may ask? Warner Bros. will cut corners where they can to lower the cost per episode for Fox, and Fox will realize how strong the fan base really is ( DVR Ratings, Critic Support, Fan Support ), and how this can affect alot of fans "impression" going forward with Fox's scripted shows. Giving Fringe and it's fans one last FINAL 13 episode Season will due nothing but great things for the viewership of Fox. It will show fans that Reilly and Fox have stood by the show since Day 1 ( not including the shady movement on it's viewing schedule ) and gave the writers and it's fans a GREAT way to go full circle and end the show. It's a slight relief Warner Bros. is so confident in a 5th season as they were because it makes me think they will do whatever it takes to give us that last season of closure. Despite dwindling ratings, I'll always hope it continues and believe it will.

    Since LOST it is the first piece of brilliant television that has been able to hold a candle to it.

    I think we can safely assume this will be the final Season. I just hope they give the writers enough notice to finish the story

    Like I said in a previous post, I think that Supernatural is also a major contributing factor to Fringe's fall in ratings. Since Fringe was moved to air opposite Supernatural, it has suffered (as well as making Supernatural suffer) as both shows attract the same type of viewers.

    But I have to agree with what you said that although Fringe is complicated, viewers can see one episode which drives them to go back and start from the pilot and work their way up. That's what I did. I didn't start watching it until this year and I think it's a brilliant show (but I will always put Supernatural first).

    A .7 and 1.86m is pretty consistent for SPN. Hopefully it'll tick up to a .8, but it's one of the few CW shows that hasn't dropped, so I'm happy. :)

    I just don't get it. Fantastic Fringe episode and still it's dropping. :'(
     Still hoping for a 13-episodes Season 5 but.. it's getting harder to believe in...

    Pinkner and Wyman is not better then Cuse and Lindelof never. Lost is more epic than Fringe. I love boths, but Lost is always my favorite show.

    There always are excuses why people don't watch TV that particular night when Fringe is one. Baseball, some holidays or something else. The truth is it has a small audience according to Nielsen and that's what counts which means I would be immensly surprised if it gets a 5th season.

    Until season 6 of Lost, Cuse and Lindelof were unbeatable. But then there was that BS flashsideways afterlife-waiting-room timeline that absolutely killed the last season. That can never be forgiven. 
    Now, I had my doubts this season on Fringe about the removal of Peter. But the way it's been handled proves for all time that Pinkner and Wyman are superior.

    The quality/content of an episode has very little effect on its ratings, unless it is a highly publicized special episode.  Though the episode after a great episode might get a small boost from the increased buzz and more people watching live because they want to know what happens next.  Conversely, the episode following a weak episode can take a ratings hit because people care less what will happen next.

    Grimm seems to have recovered from whatever caused last week's dip to 1.4.

    SPN demo is the same, but it gained .22 on total viewers, back to where it typically is.

    Will be interesting to see what happens next week with 4 genre shows going head-to-head at 9pm. Just the one week only though, since SPN goes on hiatus in 2 weeks and Fringe goes on hiatus in 3 weeks.

    I personally prefer Fringe to Lost, but that's the thing: both shows are great Abrams productions, we all will have our own opinions on them.

    I don't see how its stupid, its call reality. Not every single viewers is a super fan, the casual viewers who aren't in any hurry to see every single episodes and see a bad one, the following week they met decide to go out and do something else instead of staying watching tv...and if those same viewers see a great episode, they'll want to see what happen

    You do know that not everyone who's watching a show is coming on spoilertv or anything other website to see every single bit of infos you can found on a show? Not everyone is commited to death to every single show they watch

    Actually the ratings show that Supernatural stays steady no matter if there is a new Fringe episode on or not.  They're steady whether Grimm is on or not, baseball is in town or on the road, or if there is a snow storm or warm weather.  Not much alters Supernatural's ratings, which is bad if you are appalled by how low the ratings are but good if you want to show the boss of a crashing netlet that your show will do well with a renewal.  The one thing the CW IS good for.

    I don't believe Fringe's ratings are much affected by Supernatural either.  Fringe got a 1.1 in a week that Supernatural was a repeat.  If it stays at a 1.1 this week, it will do so against a new Supernatural episode.  The idea that Supernatural and Fringe are in competition for demo Nielsen viewers seems to be a myth.   I watch both so I agree that having them both on at the same time is a pain.  I hope they both get renewed.  Still, statistically it doesn't seem like they are cancelling each other out like some fans feared and they are certainly not in competition with each other.

    Only if you are counting total viewers, which the CW is definitely not.  Still something major would have to happen in the next couple of weeks for SPN not to be renewed.  

    It is less likely that SPN will be adjusted up to a 0.8 this week since both halves were a 0.7 and I didn't hear about any major market snafus.  At a 0.7, it would tie 90210 and One Tree Hill after Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle.  If you give it an edge for being on Fridays, it would be third overall.  Given that the actors are contracted and willing, the netlet head knows better than to tick off the SPN fandom like Ostroff did with the midseason premiere setback last year, and that the CW most certainly will not cancel 7 shows, Supernatural should be a lock.

    TV predictions are based on a mathematical formula that just doesn't seem to work for a faltering netlet like the CW.  Just like Friday nights are a special factor in the code, I think they need to have one for "your network sucks overall"  Otherwise, every single show is in danger of being canceled.  Thank goodness for the Netflix and Hulu deals.  Without them I would lean towards the entire CW netlet being canceled.

    To be honest,all I know about the ratings is what I hear from you guys..So,I was talking mostly about the viewers,but I think even the demo is decent.
    I'm not really taking One Tree Hill into consideration since it won't be a factor when the time for renewals comes.
    So basically it tied with 90210(which airs on Tuesday,I think) at 0.7 but had more viewers,even though it airs on a Friday.And it had only a slightly worse demo than Secret Circle,even though SC airs on Thursday with VD as its lead in.
    Basically,it should be safe from the ratings alone even if you don't consider the fact that,as you said,they know not to treat the fandom poorly.

    Because you can't judge any TV show by seeing one episode. And even a child can observe that after not-so-good episode the one that follows it it's better. That's why.

    I think that opinion is relative to network, Fringe is considered more of a looser because it is low rated on FOX where standards should be higher whereas on the CW everything is low rated so technically loosers but when you look at the numbers comparatively SPN is now the 2nd or 3rd highest rated show on the net so it cant be considered a looser in those terms.

    Sorry, but there is no golden rule that says not-so-good episodes are followed by better episodes.  Just because children think they observe something doesn't make it true.
