Loved it. Glad they added another nemesis that includes someone to be Finch's ultimate rival. I hate when show's have one ultimate bad that never gets got (man, was Red John getting old on the Mentalist) - this way they'll have an over arching theme w/out having to rely on one bad guy that gets stale.
They seem to be setting up quite nicely for a big bang episode soon - can't wait! =D
So we got Elias as this criminal mastermind and now Root as Finch's rival. I'm finding I like this show more and more each week, thought it might get a little stale but they keep making it great and interesting.
I loved the return of Zoe Morgan, evening a limited role!
Loved Finch on the phone as Reese took care of the would-be ex-wife-killer!!
Interesting case that added to the overarching story nicely. It's good that there is someone else out there other than Elias. NYC is a big city and there should be a few "big bads" in residence! Some might have an axe to grind with Reese or Finch since they both have accumulated enemies, and others would be doing their own thing anonymously and not come in to contact with Team Machine.... until they do come into contact with them like this week (or Elias before).
Nothing is worse than shows that have one person doing everything bad in the city (if not the world) and the only focus of the show's protagonists.
I like the fact that even the tech savvy Finch can be hacked if he stops thinking defensively or thinks that he is safe. Root seems like an interesting looming threat. One that is wise enough to not take it personally and to not go directly after Harold right away, if ever. Not necessarily out to get Team Machine (or Harold in particular), but doing her own thing and just waiting for another chance to best Team Machine. A way to measure her own skill - to be the best you have to beat the best.
Carter as part of Team Machine is already old to me. How many times does she have to get attitude with Reese or Finch? Gee, imagine that an illegal team that has an ad hoc approach and does not worry about the means would be what Finch and Reese turned out to be.... She knew what they did before she knew who they were and what side they were on. Now she expects everything to go smoothly and cleanly? She needs to get off the team...
Over all I liked this episode a lot! It was awesome to see the guys as vulnerable, or at least not the only skilled players in town.
i loved it.. introducing someone like Root who is Finch's opponent is the most intriguing part of this episode.. I can see her being on their side for once (maybe later in S5 :P), 'coz she obviously more skilled..
Zoe's return was really good.. we didn't really see much of her tho..
Nice reference to Walter Bishops "Strawberry Flavored Death" scene with Finch and the cringles! And more pawn shops! But I really liked how Finch suggested that whom we come to know as "Root" is most likely a pair of people, just like them  . I love Zoe, but I think she might be one of them (I could see her as a person whom plays every side)...as for the other person, if it is someone we know, then maybe Jessica (Reese's ex---there is something that didn't sit with me right about her in the September 11th flashback), or maybe Reese's former partner, Cara Stanton (I think Reese said she was dead, but who really knows?) --But I have to think that 'they' relate to Reese, since in the episode Reese went out of his way to tell Powell that he lost someone (Jessica?) because she found out he kills people. But then again, it also would be cool if Finch has a daughter...I love this show because it's constantly introducing new ideas and people to us. I wasn't expecting their to be hackers this early in the show! Can't wait to find out more!
I love Zoe Morgan too! I agree it would be nice if Carter could get with the program a little more. At least for a few episodes. --But this show really play political dynamics so well! It is always opening doors for more story, which is something I think you and I both like!
Darquemode, I told you that the Carter thing wasn't going to be that great. The network pushed for it too soon (to get some females (and some shipping)). Yes, they had it planned but it was a little later in the story. I like Root. It was a nice touch. I also like that Det. Fiasco is still following Harold (I hated that I didn't get at least a glimpse of him though).
I've been against Carter on the team from the first mention of it.
I still say it will lead to her death too. How can they allow her to be their enemy after knowing their intimate inner workings? Eventually she will turn, end up in a bad situation and likely be killed for her involvement with them ,or her not being with Team Machine any longer...Yeah it took me a minute to recall what other thing Fusco was helping Reese with, but it did dawn on me.. Reese has him following Finch, duh! XD
It's funny how some series have 5,10 or 15 (90 in the case of Game of Thrones) characters that get regular face time, but Person of Interest only has 4 and does not seem to be able to handle giving both Fusco and Carter big roles in the same episode! XD
I kind of think they don't show everyone all the time to sort make us forget. I mean the CIA should still be lurking around too, but we haven't seen Snow in few eps either...which is really interesting since the FBI were in this episode...but I think they have SO many balls in the air that things are written to try to distract us from other things.
DarthLocke4 the writers have a mission in this season, introduction more villains for Reese and Finch, for use later in this season or in second season. Snow appears again in episode 15 btw
True, but I like the fact that they have multiple ongoing villains in one season, a lot of shows just keep it at one. This way they can vary between storylines.
Ah yes, forgot about Agent Snow, the show has put in some good villains and story arcs for the characters. I'm looking forward to them all playing out. My initial worry was that Root was going to turn out to be Zoe Morgan, but then I considered the lady that recruited Reese. Hopefully we'll get to meet her before its revealed who Root is just so we have some kind of shock value.
I understand that, I was just saying I think they intentionally don't let us remember what's going on in every episode. I love that there are all of these characters out there that can become the focus at any given point. It makes the series much harder to predict.
IT does seem like they are hiding her identity because we already have met the character! I wondered about that too.
There just has not been a lot of female characters introduced that are not dead or in debt to Team Machine.... Maybe Reese's ex if she's still alive? Who knows...
I thought that too until I realized she had to appear young to be able to get away with using the dorm room...and then I went to the international movie data base...If that actress plays her again, it would make more sense if Root is someone's daughter...
Root could be Goodwin... erm Nathan Ingram's daughter!! They have hinted at Finch being responsible for Ingram's death or downfall, perhaps Ingram's daughter wants a little payback?
During the show I only could think of Zoe or Carter. Afterwards Reese's ex. But like DarthLocke4 mentioned she could be too old. Has to be someone else than being connected to Goo...Ingrim.
I'm not that in-arms if Root would be Ingram's daughter. A bit too predictable but maybe it sounds too obvious. How about the fictitious daughter of the government official who bought The Machine for 1 symbolical Dollar. :D
I still like it even if I do not have it all worked out just yet....
I think there has to be some connection to Finch's past.
I guess technically there does not need to be and it could be some random uber-hacker that just fell into Finch's path, but Abrams shows do not do coincidences very often....
Good episode overall. - I liked the Zoe reappearance. - Finch facing his own personal challenges during the episode was nice. It's usually just Reese that gets that kind of stuff. - Logic problem - A few episodes ago, Reese beat on a trained, MMA fighting gym rat. This week he's having trouble with a short, middle-aged, gun-toting, mook with a beer gut? I'm calling shenanigans. - The absence of Fusco was annoying, as was Carter's constant objections and complaining. - Reese taking out the transport was great. It reminded me of the pilot. - I'm not sure I like this new nemesis for Finch. I get the feeling that Person of Interest wants its own Lisbeth Salander.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
How many ongoing series villains does this make now? Three, maybe four?

More back story and more chances for a serialized element (even if for a limited 2 to 4 episode run) is always a good thing!

ReplyDeleteAwesome episode. Reese and Finch on field, together is always cool. I like it the introduction of the new villain.
ReplyDeleteDarthLocke4 the writers have a mission in this season, introduction more villains for Reese and Finch, for use later in this season or in second season. Snow appears again in episode 15 btw
ReplyDeleteRoot could be a Love interest for Finch hahahahaha
ReplyDeletehahahaha she sure sounds like one :P
ReplyDeleteyep ,, Finch and Reese together on the field was amazing.. I didn't realize I missed it that much.. esp. the guys on a stake scene .. priceless!
ReplyDeleteIs really great that scene.
ReplyDeletethis makes 3 seemingly ongoing villains: Elias, Agent Snow of the CIA, and Root. And Snow is probably the most powerful with the CIA backing him.
ReplyDeleteThis show is awsome and that adds another villain to the show lol. elias, agent snow and now root. at least they have allys like morgan.
ReplyDeletedont forget agent snow as reese's rival. and he represents the enemy of the CIA that reese left behind.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but I like the fact that they have multiple ongoing villains in one season, a lot of shows just keep it at one. This way they can vary between storylines.

ReplyDeleteWell...it might get ugly when everything will fall on their heads at the same time...The season finale is going to be HUGE
ReplyDeleteSomehow I got the impression that Root is someone we (already) should know.
ReplyDeleteBut there have to be some hackers in the world who might have learned about The Machine.
IT does seem like they are hiding her identity because we already have met the character! I wondered about that too.

That would work too!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the Ex or current girlfriend of Nathans son?
Please never mention Sydney or anything related to Alias, if I am bitter about Lost, than I am LIVID over Alias, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI can't really promise that since BR references themselves to no end! :p
ReplyDeleteBut I love their works, so it's different for me!
Good episode overall.
