I seem to enjoy Merlin more and more with each passing week. It could be because I have to wait so long before it comes to the US on TV, but I like the ongoing friendship between Arthur and Merlin the most. I am a great history buff and I think this show portrays the time and place of Arthur very well.
It is indeed a shame. Why did you consider the later episodes 'painful'? Of course you can always criticize story lines. But the acting in the show is outstanding.. Colin and Bradley were both superb, particularly in the later episodes.
The actors are amazing but the story lines? Talk about cringe worthy. Martyr!Gwen as the wounded doe actually made me laugh - overdoing the analogy much? And when you compare the scope of the season premiere and the season finale... The premiere was like a real movie, the production values, the cinematography. The finale? A handful of extras doesn't a big battle for Camelot make. And Tristan and Isolde as smugglers? Seriously?
It was painful because the show had so much potential yet it was so wasted...
I understand what you mean - I did not particularly enjoy Tristan and Isolde and their story myself. They were clearly just there to highlight to Arthur how easily he could lose Gwen altogether, and to give him a reason to change his mind about her. And the deer, okay, I did not mind that. But Gwen was too 'clean' and they obviously tried to amend that. But these are only two minor points. The main story between Arthur and Merlin remains interesting and that is what I watch Merlin for.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteI have to agree, the acting this season is outstanding, esp Colin and Bradley who both seem to up their game week by week :)
