"Burn some bridges" in the next couple episodes, KHR says. My a*&^%. As much as I missed that back tattoo, it wasn't worth it.
What is going on with this second half of the season? The pacing is choppy, the writing is bad, the plots are all over the place, and the characters are not acting like themselves. "Hey Dyson, Bo is trapped in the basement." You could go after her or wander around looking annoyed. Seriously?
The sword fighting open was awesome and it was all downhill from there. So sad.
I liked it! Sad to see the breakdown in the Dyson/Hale relationship. I liked the underfae, showed they're not all just unevolved fae, but can be kick ass powerful. I don't really like Nadia, but curious where it's going.
Awesome interesting episodes loved the hale back story and seeing more fae politics his family etc. Val seems like a character we'll love to hate, perhaps she will become the ash 3.0? and WTF is up with Nadia she was seriously creepy in this episode is she possessed?
Maybe, I think this is supposed to be a progression of "I can't love" self-destructiveness, although why now seems like an overreaction. Unless we are to believe that losing Ciara was worse for him than losing Bo.
I'm still on team Dyson, but sheesh. "I may not be able to love, but I can still live." Come on, the fact that Kris had to say that with another serious frown on his face was punishment enough.
Plus the Garuda can only explain so much. It does nothing to explain why a politician would send the uncouth, unaligned, unsubtle Bo as an emissary to the traditional, rigid, protocol-loving clan leaders. Isn't that something the Ash should be doing? I know that Bo has to help fight the actual Garuda, but allying people together isn't exactly her strong suit, and it really is the Ash's sole job description. Or why Hale is suddenly all for saving humans and getting mixed up in Fae politics? Or why the proper response to Kenzi expressing her love for Nate is "good enough for me"? Or why the clan leaders are like the enemy of all the Fae is coming, but we don't really care 'cause Bo alone can't win. If the only one fighting (who you can't even be sure is on your side because she is unaligned) can't defeat your enemy that would seem to be a big problem. "Soft" people are more frightened, not less? Or why no one is talking like themselves: "are we cool"? Or why Hale hits like a girl? Or why Kenzi didn't just say she was being a faux beau in the first place? All the motivations were off, Dyson and Bo go to see the leader of Trick's clan and immediately ask him what he is doing there? Weren't they on their way to interview him?
I felt the someone took the script and deleted every other line and mad libbed the rest back in. If the Garuda is the answer to all of this, then it's right up there with the CIA swooping in to save the Sons--it better be one heck of a baddie, you know not like a lava monster that can turn into rock and withstanding being trapped in a mountain and have all the power of a volcano but can be killed by getting too cold from three cups of liquid nitrogen.
Well, I agree with you on some of those (like the leader of Trick's clan and the whole Kenzi/Nate bit could be chalked up to bad writing) but some of the others....I don't know. I can see a variety of ways the Garuda or things we don't know about the characters could be coming into play.
Take the Ash, for example. I could see him pulling a stunt like that if he's actually one of the bad guys. What better way to weaken the Fae then sending in someone as inexperience as Bo to try and break down the walls (annoying as they are) that have kept the peace for centuries? I mean, what do we really know about Lachlan other then his poison kills the Garuda? This is the same guy who straight up murdered a Fae that confessed to being influenced by dark desires. A Fae which, as the Ash, he should be protecting/punishing within the laws.
As for Hale? The politics thing I'd agree with you on unless he and Trick had a pow-wow we missed. But as for saving humans, why wouldn't he be for that? Honestly, we haven't seen enough of him in the episodes (since he and Kenzi usually are stuck as the moderators for Dyson and Bo's craziness) to know everything about his motivations. There are two reasons I'd suggest the Garuda as a possible explanation for Dyson's, er, lack of common sense....The first is the conversation he and Val had at the party. When she's telling him about Bo being locked in the basement and he takes interest she loses focus for a moment and then flips into "seductive mode" again. There was just something in that transition that struck me as odd. Also, Lachlan basically told Bo that she's perfect for fighting the Garuda because she's driven by love. The Norn pretty much ripped that defense from Dyson so maybe he's more susceptible to the Garuda's influence? Again, these are just potential routes I could see the writers taking. I'm hoping they'll pull off something awesome in the next couple episodes.
When they expanded the season from 13 episodes to 22, that meant they had to stretch out the story lines. On the bright side, we get 9 extra episodes. On the down side, the pacing is messed up. There are only 5 episodes left though, so things should start picking up real soon as they build up for the season finale.
Totally agree that they can use the Garuda or various other plot elements to clear stuff up. And here's to hoping they do. They could have covered the Ash bit by saying the clans supersede light and dark, so he would have no business interfering. But instead we've got light/dark, 3 clans, and 5 nobles families (from Fae Day, but not the same as clans even though they sometimes called them noble families in this episode) and no clear understanding of the hierarchy. Hale has shown no indication that he thinks humans are equal and need to be protected anymore than Trick does. In the past, he's considered fae to be a genetically superior race. And the whole equality platform completely ignores that for most fae humans are food. Even the light aren't going around falling for humans: the silkies were a "gray area." So it wasn't illegal for them. And we know Hale has hooked up with humans in the past, but shucking around and bringing them home to daddy are slightly different things.
There are a number of holes--like we don't know for sure that Lachlan killed Guerrero. Or that once the garuda takes you over that you can be "unpossessed" or whatever, maybe death is the only way??
Some of it I chalked up to bad writing, some to bad acting (the weird bit with Val in the hallway). I'd like to hope that the writers have a more cohesive vision for the rest of the season, they did for season 1 for the most part and the first half of season 2. I had high hopes for Emily Andras making up for the glitches of Table for Fae and School's Out, so I am sad that she didn't (or wasn't able to) set some stuff right.
Totally agree, Dyson with his temper is definitely ripe for Garuda takeover, before or after his visit to the Norn. There was definitely something in his look at the end of the party, and the summaries seem to indicate that he was be back on the good side before the end.
Okay, I can see what you mean. I mean, you could also just chuck up the protect humans thing as his way to get to Kenzi (who you have to admit is one of the few humans he and Trick will protect) to help him out since we all know how she feels about being Fae food. But meh.
And I hope death isn't the only way to do an "unpossession"....that would suck for a lot of characters.
Typically with a show like this, you get 30 scripts on your desk. You throw out 17 and keep 13. This season they had to pull a bunch of those scripts out of the trash at the last minute.
Hopefully this sort of thing won't be a problem next season, as long as they can go into it knowing well in advance how many episodes they will be making.
I like Lost Girl a lot and hope it doesn't lose too many people from little hiccups like these.
Sounds like season 3 has an initial order with a midseason pick up same as this year.
What I hate is the argument that it should only be a 13 episode season because the second half wasn't as good or there are more COTW episodes. I like LG and I totally want 22 more episodes for season 3!!
the way Hale was looking at Kenzi seemed to me that he's falling for her....i don't know if anyone noticed that... like when she came in in her dress and when he was telling her she could keep the piece of jewelry.. he had a look like he was falling hard.... that's my take on it...
I'm glad they finally elaborated on fae power inheritance and have always wanted to see more of Hale in an episode. The tension between the Bo, Kenzi, Hale and Dyson is a good cliffhanger. I wonder how they will get the characters to be the bad ass team they once were again. I just found the show and am bummed I have to wait another 2 weeks for ep 18. Guess I'll go pick up and read the new UF books released.
That's my take on it as well. I've thought they'd make a nice couple, (especially their sense of humours xD). It's the reason I wouldn't mind totally if Nate fell out a window :P
I dont know if its just me but I think a lot of you are reading to much into things. I mean take Dyson, he found out that he can no longer love and cant really feel things anymore. Its like he numb and so he doesnt care anymore about anything so hes becoming extremely self destructive. A lot of people respond this way when they finally realize they lost something so huge. The reason if happen after his break-up with Ciara is because through out that relationship he was lying to himself that he could love her and when he found out he couldnt love anyone, it finally hit him.
Also the reason the Ash sent Bo to speak with the Clan leaders is because she is his champion. She is suppose to lead the fight against the Garuda so she was hoping he could to unite all the clans together. He did warn her though that she wouldnt like them.
Another thing I noticed is that ppl thought it wasnt plausible for Bo to kill the fire fae so easily but in reality they didnt have liquid nitrogen back when they were really powerful and so it was really smart that she could kill it with that.
Lastly, I think that Nadia is the Garuda because cant it take the shape of other ppl, and she was looking thru Bo's stuff and I think she was actually being truthful about sizeing up the competition. If not tho Nadia is evil of possessed or something! The cutting of her hand and like tasting her blood was Creepy! That also made me think she was the Garuda
My problem with Dyson's self-destructiveness coming now is that he wasn't this far gone before he ran into Ciara and decided to start lying to himself and her. And after Mirror, Mirror he was doing better with the whole lost love thing and he never neglected Bo when he was her backup until this ep. Plus, the norn's explanation shouldn't really have come as that big of a shock to him considering it was pretty much verbatim what he told Bo in 2.02 and season 1. Also, if Bo was his only love, then he lived without love for several centuries without being a total jerk, but whatever. I really think it was just inconsistent writing, and not foreshadowing of some big crazy attack on Dyson. Personally, I think it would have been more realistic if he had started lashing out at her: resenting the sacrifice and all that. But I'm not a LG writer, so what do I know. I think I was more accepting than others of the "sacrifice your love" plot element, but the producers/writers/whatever changed their minds a couple of times on how it was impacting Dyson as the season has gone on.
As far as the Ash goes, Bo has to lead the fae into battle, not general the troops or sell war bonds. And frankly as an ambassador she sucks: she isn't very good politically, she hasn't chosen a side so she is incredibly divisive, her mother was a psycho anarchist, she doesn't know or respect fae rules, and she's not so good at acknowledging or impressing "her social betters." For these reasons and more, it made little to no sense for an oily politician to acknowledge that she was everything these people have no respect for, but he was sending her to do a critical bit of uniting. Everything Bo stands for is revolutionary for the fae world, ie, the antithesis of unity. I get it, we needed the main character to do heavy lifting in the episode, so I understand why the writers did it, but this season has asked you to overlook a lot. I'm all for accepting game changers and developments, but I'd prefer to have the writers/etc acknowledge it and not force the audience into making up their own excuses for why characters are behaving the way they do or how politics work or anything else. Which I am totally willing to do, but Sunday night, I was just a little bit sad that I had to when I know how good LG can be.
Not to mention (I'm agreeing with you on the inconsistency) Dyson seemed back to his general post-love loss attitude (i.e. not as much of an jerk) in "School's Out", so the attitude change seemed to come out of left field.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
words can't express how much I hate nadia.
