Parks and Recreation - Season 4 - Tom and Ann to be in a relationship

6 Feb 2012

"It's real. Tom and Ann are dating and will have a relationship for some amount of time."

Schur goes on to say that his writing staff has been talking about hooking up Tom and Ann since season three because they wanted to do something more casual, and comical.

"We have a lot of soul-matey relationships, with Leslie (Amy Poehler) and Ben (Adam Scott) and Andy (Chris Pratt) and April (Aubrey Plaza)," Schur explains, "and we just wanted to do a comedy relationship. It's real, but it's not soulfully gazing into each other eyes and running off to get married after three weeks. We're going for a different relationship, which is a pair of mismatched people who are very gingerly having a couple drinks here and there to see if they're compatible."

"There are certainly people affected by [Tom and Ann's relationship]," Schur reveals. "Most specifically is April. Because she's the person who got them together, they're constantly complaining about each other to her, and she decides the only way she can get through it is to get drunk. So she gets really really drunk at 4 in the afternoon. It's sort of an April, Tom and Ann triangle as far as who's affected."

  1. Whoa! I thought it'd be just a one time thing. I didn't expect them to start dating!

Can't wait for Drunk!April at 4:00 in the afternoon. That should be hilarious.

  4.  Sounds like they're playing this up for comedic effects. I don't think this "relationship" will last long.

  5. Remember, the show started off with Ann ending a relationship with Andy. Talk about incompatible!

  6. Hater. This is Parks, their romantic comedy is actually good, the best romantic comedy besides Louie (witch is sorta anti-romcom).

  10.  Sounds hilarious.

When months ago they were teasing that an unexpected relationship was coming to the show I thought they were going for an Ann/Ron thing. But Ann/Tom could be perfectly funny too.

  13. the April - Ann - Tom triangle as described is so made of win.... can't wait to see what they do with it and it's good, as sad, lonely Ann plot has run on long enough
