    I suppose it's a reference to Shakespeare quote :

    "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark"  (Hamlet)

    In french, we use the exact translation "il y a quelque chose de pourri au royaume de Danemark".
    It's an expression which means that something is wrong or corrupted.

    She confirmed that it is a reference to Hamlet, she didn't say why. But Hamlet is a fitting reference, the play is all about revenge...
