Who will play the Masters of Sex ? The answer is...

2 Feb 2012

Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan !

He will play William Masters, she will play Virginia Johnson. They are considered "human sexuality pioneers", and this series by Michelle Ashford (The Pacific) would be based upon Thomas Maier's book, The life and times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, the couple who taught America how to love".

Michael Sheen's previous TV credits include a recurring guest spot on 30 Rock season 4 and his portrayal of Tony Blair in two TV movies written by Peter Morgan : The Deal (2003) on the BBC and The Special Relationship (2010) on HBO — he also played the former prime minister in the feature movie The Queen (2006), also written by Peter Morgan. Paul Bettany walked out of the role of William Masters a few weeks ago.

Lizzy Caplan's previous TV credits include appearances on Freaks and Geeks and season 1 of True Blood, and leading roles in The Class and also in the brilliant comedy Party Down. She's currently playing a recurring role on New Girl.

John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) will shoot a pilot for Masters of Sex next March in New York. Showtime will then decide if they pick it up to series. The other pilot in development at Showtime is Ray Donovan, starring Liev Schreiber.

  2. Well now I'm excited about this show.

I love Lizzy Caplan from True Blood (where she had a topless role, hihi) and especially from Party Down.

Glad Michael Sheen replaced Paul Bettany, who decided to pass on Masters of Sex after having been committed to it for a while. Good riddance, he looks like a creepy aryan anyway. Sheen is a much better actor.

  3. Michael Sheen is a great choice and I love Lizzy Caplan but mainly in comedy so if this is strictly drama which i'm guessing it is I will have to see her in it first, but I bet she will be great either way.

  4. Haha, i also think that Paul Bettany looks like an creepy aryan-ish guy.

The shows is gonna be a drama, but with comical sides. So more like an dramedy.

  7. Wasn't really interested before, but now I guess it's at least getting a try-out watch from me. Provided it gets picked up to series....

  8. Mmm! An ambitious title, "Masters of Sex," ready made in the creator's opinion, to pull in a discreet number of viewers!

Too bad that there had been thousands of years of human love and sexual interaction berfore these two appeared on the scene to instruct the unlightened Americans about sex!  Redundant!

In my opinion, they could save time and money by leaving well alone, and the powers that be should use their creative juices to come up with more original and interesting pilots to present to the television public.
