Joey Dakota - SpoilerTV CW pilot script preview - more romance than sci-fi

Joey Dakota :

This show is very much about the romance between Maya and Joey Dakota a dead singer who was a friend of her father, Maya recently filmed a documentary about Joey than finds herself travelling back and forth in time. The show gives an extreme focus on the romance and the success of the pilot will depend entirely on the chemistry between the two leads. Overall the script was pretty boring but there is an interesting subplot of Maya trying to prevent Joey's death in 1990 and how her adventures in the past affect her present, her parents were long dead but after her adventures in the past, she returns to her present to find her father is alive and in prison for the murder of Joey Dakota.
The majority of the script seems to consist of flirtatious scenes between Maya & Joey and this is a romance show much more than it is a Sci-Fi show and the intriguing murder mystery is very much in the background. It also has some musical elements.

Success Chances: I don't see this succeeding but we'll see who they cast

  1. Doesn't sound very interesting,i'm not even sure i will watch the pilot....

I just realized it was on the CW,to this day, in all my years i have never watched a show on the CW.

  2. If this had been on the CW only a year or two ago, I could see it being picked up, but with the change in leadership, and the new direction of The CW, it probably won't.

  4. Eh. I'd rather focus on the sci-fi than the romance.

  5. Shows like Being Erica and Drop Dead Diva have done well.  The premises of the shows are very genre, but the actual content is genre-lite.  If done right, Joey Dakota could also do well as light entertainment.

  6. They've added Seasons 1-6 of Supernatural to Netflix.
I just feel obligated to tell you that.

  8. Another disappointment.  I'm going to have to stop reading script previews.  Here's hoping they all get drastic rewrites before filming.  Still holding out hope that The Selection gets turned into a butt kicking female powerhouse dystopia.  As for this one, not sure there is anything in time traveling flirtation for my tastes.  If while she's in the past, her future dad develops feelings for her in a deluded twist of the love triangle, I will have to throw up.
