Game of Thrones - Season 2 - Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Interview

Thanks to Philomina for the heads up.

1. You are a well-known actor from Denmark and you made movies and TV in the U.S.. How did your first job in the U.S. come about?

My first US movie was "Black Hawk Down" and a friend helped me put myself on tape up on the attic over my apartment in Copenhagen. We shipped it out and I got lucky.

2. Your part in "Nightwatch" was your breakthrough. How did it feel to become so popular over night?

It was a strange moment in my life. But I didnt realise how 'known' I was in Denmark 'till years later. I was too focused on learning my craft to pay attention to that part of the equation. I didn't have a point of reference, it was my first job so apparently thats how it was. Later I found out that the great shows are rare. Now I know and makes me even more grateful to be part of "Game of Thrones".

3. Jaime Lannister on "Game of Thrones" season 1 is a charming yet ruthless character. What do you personally think about him?

What's not to like about Jaime? As an actor I couldn't ask for a better role.

4. Jaime Lannister had many explosive and enthralling scenes in the first season. How did you approach these scenes with Lena Headey, Sean Bean and Michelle Fairley?

When you work with great actors and great writing like we do on GOT you really try to enjoy, react and not let your instinct to act get in the way of the scene.

  1. I really can't wait to see Jaime's story on screen and I am interested to see how people how haven't read the book will react to his storyline because he went from being a character I never cared for to being in my Top 5 favourites of the series.

  2. I agree, but he doesn't become likeable until next season though ^

I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with him this year, in the book he is in ONE scene.
So I'm guessing they're going to show the scene in which he was mentioned trying to escape. And maybe they'll make a totally new scene and maybe pull his story from book 3 forward a chapter or two.

  3. Personally, he was one of my favorite characters from the series. In the books it took me until Book 3 to like him, but I liked him right off in the series!

I agree though, his redemption arc kicks into full effect in Book 3. This season he had no real role in the book, but the new material could be fun!  I wonder how much will be padded non-POV scenes  or "deleted scenes" from the book and how much will be moved forward from Book 3.

  4. Yeah I'm thinking parts of his story from Book 3 will happen this season otherwise he will be underused

  5. I am really excited to see what to do to give us more Jaime screentime!

  6. I'm hoping not too much, a lot of the later chapters are really "Handy" for the overall storyline. :)

To clear up what I said, Jaime was always a likeable bad guy but in later times he becomes a likeable not so bad guy.

  7. You know what I miss lately? His show "New Amsterdam". I wish it was out on DVD.

  9. Just watched Headhunters wth NCW yesterday. He is such an awesome actor. Good film too.

I love Jaime, can´t wait to see what they have come up with for him to do in season 2, as he doesn´t have a big role in book 2. I trust that they found a good story for him though.

  10. I love how he can just say "Brienne" and pretty much answer the question more than effectivelly.

  11. Always like Jaime right from the beginning, and it has nothing to do with supporting a fellow countryman, lol. It's hard to pick a favourite character from such an excellent cast, but I found him compelling from the beginning.
