Hey Guys,
Some good news for Fringe fans is that episode 4.09's ratings, originally a 1.1, flew up a massive 0.9 in the +7 ratings, meaning that the episode saw an 81% increase rising to a 2.0!
Even though these ratings aren't as important to the networks, it's still a fantastic increase which actually had the highest percentage increase for that week of television.

ReplyDeleteIt certainly does suggest that there is an audience for this show, just not on a Friday.
ReplyDeleteIf networks can figure out how to make mony from DVR ratings then they'll matter untill then no such luck.
ReplyDeleteDVR ratings are so insignificant because the network can not make money from them.
ReplyDeleteEven if these ratings were taken in to account it would still place Fringe as one of the lowest rated shows on FOX and therefore still likely to be cancelled simply because they would have to cancel something to pick up something.
As it stands Fringe looses FOX money and so it is highly likely it will be cancelled.
Now we know whom to blame when the show gets cancelled in may.

ReplyDeleteIt might not mean a lot to the network,it means a lot to Fringe Fans,we know people are watching,we know the show is loved my many,we just aren't watching it the way the networks want us to....I think its time for the mantra....YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN!

ReplyDeleteVery true but it also shows that they should start looking at ways of getting money from ads a different way- maybe having ads on streaming or something like that. If the ratings measurement continues like this then a lot of shows will have very low ratings and high DVR ratings plus streaming, etc.

ReplyDeleteIt's not right to criticise the DVR viewers. Yes it would be amazing if they watched on Friday too, Fringe would be well over 6 million viewers and we wouldn't have this problem.
ReplyDeleteBut that's the point, they don't watch on Friday because they can't. It doesn't suit them. Fringe needs to be on another day where 5/6 millions is acceptable.
Exactly. In fact, I cannot watch any live primetime TV. I have a small child and just can't get around to it until a couple hours after things air. And I work most Friday nights when Fringe airs too. I can't watch live. Not my fault.
ReplyDeleteThe DVR numbers mean little to Fox, but they should mean something positive to Warner Bros, who are negotiating with Fox over the show's licensing fee. Warner Bros needs to believe that Fringe continues to have fans who consume the show in some way (if not live on Fox, than via streaming or DVD). So, for the DVR ratings to increase to 2.0 (they've been lower than that lately) should signal to Warner Bros. that general fan interest in the show is picking up.

It's not about accessibility when it comes to Fringe. As we have seen in the past, no timeslot really captures 100% of Fringe viewers for the live telecast. Half of the viewers watch it at a later time by recording it or downloading it. FOX'd just be putting more ratings pressure on Fringe if they move it out of Friday if you ask me.

ReplyDeletethe DVR audience will always remain DVR audience no matter which night we move the show to. Which day the show airs really is not gonna make a huge difference to the ratings.
ReplyDelete...What subtext? So the creative forces behind the show can appreciate that they have fans? That's all well and good, but its the network who decides whether or not to cancel a show, and DVR doesn't mean shit to the network because they aren't making any revenue off those people. Entertainment is a business.
