Sherlock now has his dear Watson — and she’s a bonified hottie.
Lucy Liu has been cast to star alongside Eli Stone‘s Jonny Lee Miller in CBS’s upcoming pilot, Elementary, a modern-day take on Sherlock Holmes, EW has confirmed.
The concept for Elementary finds Miller and Liu, as Watson, solving crimes in New York City, according to previously announced loglines for the project.
Liu currently stars on TNT’s Southland.

I'm not going to use any politically correct platitudes here. This is sacrilege!!
ReplyDeleteWatson a female. Yuck!
Sorry, for me Sherock and Watson are a "buddy story"
I love Lucy Liu but she is a very odd choice for Dr. Watson.
ReplyDeleteLol, Sherlock/Watson romance! fangirls are going to explode in flames, it will be like a trickster that made their wish came true, but not as they wanted to...
ReplyDeleteOkay, I am going to give this a chance, even if by the sheer WTF factor, besides, I love Liu.
Yah....I'll stick to BBC's thank you.
ReplyDeleteI've really been enjoying Liu's turn on Southland quite a bit, but am not so sure about this "reimagining" casting.... wait and see I suppose
ReplyDeletewtf calm down people, I'm hoping they'll make Watson a lesbian so that she and Sherlock could have a unique relationship. This casting actually intrigues me a bit. I wasn't interested before, but now I am O.o
ReplyDeleteUgh, i'm sticking with the Granada version thank you. I will try this series, but as with the American films, i'll have to consider it a completely different 'verse in order to not get upset. :/
ReplyDeleteAnd just when I thought it couldn't get any worse. No disrespect to Lucy Liu, but a female Watson? Really? Sounds truly trulu awful. it's not often that I want TV shows to fail, but I am making an exception for this one.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds more and more like the boring everyday crime solving procedural where the male and female lead have the hots for each other. I'm just scratching my head how they want to make this different from Castle?
ReplyDeletethis is just awful for the Sherlock Holmes theme
ReplyDeleteOh well,I really started to like Lucy Liu on Southland, she played a great part, that let me see another side of her.She can act!.....So i gather she will get shot?
ReplyDeleteI will be keeping my eye out for her,she made me a believer in her....
this is absurd... It's like casting a guy to play Lisbeth Salander... Or a girl to play Ron Weasley...
ReplyDeleteIt just doesn't work... I am not willing to watch a show that changes
something so...elementary (pun intended) to a well known book series...
I mean, can you imagine, a few seasons into the show....for a lack of new ideas, they decide develop a romantic relationship b/w Holmes and Watson? I think I am gonna throw up now...
I agree.
ReplyDeleteI have nothing against the actress as I like her.
It's just the whole idea of completely demolishing the original concept and replacing it with another "sexual tension" between the two main leads similar to Bones or Castle.
Sherlock Holmes is just different from that sort of thing altogether.
It's about the intelligence and acumen in solving impossible cases.
I think they just decided to go with this to get people curious and entice them to watch.
The show is on CBS so it will probably be a great success.
I guess producers of BBC Sherlock need not worry anymore that there will be any resemblance with their own show
ReplyDeleteNo problem with making Watson a woman. I just don't like the idea of yet another Sherlock vehicle. And Lucy Liu has never really done anything for me. SHe's okay as a supporting player, I guess but she is nothing remarkable imo.
ReplyDeleteNo Sherlock Holmes fan will watch this one...
ReplyDeleteLosing interest in this fast!
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of Lucy at all and Them updating the series with a female Watson irks me too. I'm tired of remakes that change everything from the original that made the original what it was.
A female Sherlock would have been more interesting...
ReplyDeleteHow's Johny Lee? I never watched him in anything...
ReplyDeleteAlso, does airing start in september?
not happy, cus this means she might not be coming back to Southland and i really love her on Southland
ReplyDeleteHe is quirky and has good comic timing. A fairly good dramatic actor too honestly....
ReplyDeleteI've seen in light fare like Hackers with Angelina Jolie, comedy like Eli Stone and more dramatic BBC period drama like Emma and thought he was pretty good in each genre.
I think he should be capable as Sherlock, assuming the writing is any good.......
I agree...why bother even basing it on the Sherlock Holmes stories if they're just going for a will they/won't they scenario? I just want JLM to run away from this project...he's a good actor and deserves something better than CBS's attempts to jump on the Sherlock bandwagon.
ReplyDeleteWell at least nobody can say this version isn't trying a different spin on the story...
ReplyDeleteI like her quite a bit, and JLM, but I'm still sceptical about this pilot.
If it does get picked up I will most probably give it a sampling, though I am positive no matter how good it might turn out to be the BBC version will still be uncomperably better!
me 2 ..
ReplyDeleteEven if it's quarter of what BBC's show is, it will still be better than 95% of what's on TV
ReplyDeleteOh well,I really started to like Lucy Liu on Southland, she played a great part, that let me see another side of her.She can act!.....So i gather she will get shot?
ReplyDeleteI will be keeping my eye out for her,she made me a believer in her....
I think I'd be more interested if they decided to call it "Watson" with Liu in the lead and forgot about Sherlock Holmes and Jonny Lee Miller altogether.
