-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another Tuesday overnight victory for CBS, which finished first in each of the six half-hours care of NCIS (11.8 rating/19 share), spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (9.8/16) and freshman drama Unforgetabble (7.1/12). But Unforgettable, year-to-year, dropped by 16 percent from older-skewing year-ago occupant The Good Wife (8.5/14 on 2/15/11). NCIS, as always, was the top-rated show of the evening.
In season-premiere news, absence did not make the ratings grow stronger for Cougar Town. Season three of the Courteney Cox sitcom returned with a fourth-place 3.3/ 5 in the overnights at 8:30 p.m., which dipped by 28 percent from lead-in Last Man Standing (#3: 4.6/ 7 at 8 p.m.). Comparably, this was 21 percent below the debut of recent failed time period occupant Work It (4.2/ 6 on 1/03/12), and 37 percent below the premiere of failed fall occupant Man Up! (5.2/ 8 on 10/18/11). One year earlier, the second half of drama No Ordinary Family scored a 3.2/ 5 on 2/15/11.
In week two news, ABC drama The River lost considerable steam with a fourth-place 3.2/ 5 at 9 p.m. Comparably, that was off by 44 percent from its week-ago opener (5.7/ 9 on 2/07/12 from 9-10 p.m.). Since most new shows drop in the vicinity of 10 to 20 percent in week two, viewers, no doubt, did not like what they saw on The River last week. At 10 p.m., Body of Proof on ABC (#2: 4.6/ deserves positive mention for growing by 48 percent out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of The River (3.1/ 5).
Over at Fox, deteriorating Glee finished second in the overnights at 8 p.m., with a 5.3/ 8. Compared to one year earlier (8.0/12 on 2/16/11), that was down by 34 percent. And, yes, this is significant. New Girl, which is poised for time period victory among adults 18-49, followed with a 4.7/ 7 (#2) at 9 p.m. Sophomore Raising Hope, however, dropped to fourth at 9:30 p.m., with a 3.0/ 5. One year earlier, failed time period occupant Traffic Light scored a similar 2.6/ 4 on 2/16/11.
NBC’s tired The Biggest Loser, which should be pared down to one hour at this point, finished with a 3.9/ 6 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Compared to one year earlier (5.0/ 8 on 2/16/11), this is a loss of 22 percent. The Biggest Loser led into Parenthood, which closed the night for NBC was an uneventful (and third-place) 3.3/ 6 at 10 p.m. One year earlier, Parenthood scored a 3.6/ 6 on 2/16/11.
On The CW, a repeat of Hart of Dixie (#5: 0.7/ 1), led into an original installment of Ringer at a mere 0.9/ 1 at 9 p.m. One year earlier, short-lived Hellcats scored a 1.1/ 2 on 2/16/11.

FUCK. What the hell is wrong with you, people who aren't watching The River and Cougar Town?
ReplyDeleteI hope Ringer's ratings are good ! Please :(
ReplyDeletenot looking good
ReplyDeleteNop and I'm very upset about Ringer's rating ! Damn !!! Since the 7th episode Ringer is just AMAZING but ratings are not good... not at all... :(
ReplyDeletePretty poor night ratings-wise for a lot of shows.
ReplyDeleteSo sad :( Cougar Town was fantastic, as was Ringer..
ReplyDeletetell me about it :(
ReplyDeletelets give cougar town 6 weeks before we start getting worried!
ReplyDeleteWhy Hulu and Netflix want to support this awful network is beyond me, they'd have more luck throwing their money in a ditch than in CW.
ReplyDeleteyou might want to wait for the A18-49 ratings before you start worrying, HH ratings give zero indication as to how a show does in the all important key demo.
ReplyDeleteBecause the CW'shows payoffs for Hulu & Netflix. There are many viewers (but not in live), when you look at the ranking of the the CW's series it's quite schoking because there are well placed.
ReplyDeleteSorry for my english, I'm french and I have a question about The CW. Does everyone in the United States of America can watch The CW on TV ?
it gives a decent indication if 44% less households watched this week then no way is the demo going up
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm not necessarily worried about the show - I'm more sad that people missed out on the experience of it haha.. they were both great last night!
ReplyDeleteSee above ^^
ReplyDeleteI was excited for The River but wasn't a huge fan of the premiere. It feels like a show that should've been on premium cable - all of the bleeped cursing became annoying and the cuts to commercials also broke the immersion for me. Perhaps the viewing experience would be more enjoyable on DVD where it'll be uncensored and uninterrupted.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch anything on the CW,i am just not into any of the shows that are on,but yes many people watch the CW on tv,just not everyone.Hope that answered your question.:)
ReplyDeleteSo sad just for Raising Hope, it's an amazing comedy! :(
ReplyDeleteAs long as NCIS and NCIS LA are doing well i'm happy.
ReplyDeleteIf The River was on the SyFy channel it would be doing well,if not a hit....
Almost everyone has access to CW, it is a free channel.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your answers because with the very low ratings, I didn't know if The CW was a network free like ABC, CBS, FOX... or like HBO, FX :)
ReplyDeleteNot surprised about The River. I didn't even bother watching.
ReplyDeleteThe River is dead in the water and was already drowning on premeire night as it went down every half hour. It's just not well done and it needed to be brilliant to win a network schedule spot and be a horror series.
ReplyDeleteNo surprise about Cougar Town.
I love the show, but a lot of people did not know it was starting.... and many people just will not watch it due to the title. Even if they are told repeatedly that it is not about older women preying on young men!
its less available than the other some towns / states dont have CW but itss technically still broadcast
ReplyDeleteIf I could move The River anywhere, I'd put it right after The Walking Dead on AMC.
ReplyDeleteABC certainly doesn't do very well with genre shows. Their only successful genre shows in the last few years have been Once Upon A Time and Lost. They have had a lot of failures: No Ordinary Family, The Gates, V, Eastwick, FlashForward, Defying Gravity...
ABC's shows tend to be very "family friendly" or what most genre fans would see as "dumbed down".
Your not kidding, before Once Upon A Time and revenge its my guilty pleasure at the moment,i only watched Lost and Grey's,other than that nothing else.It seemed it was all comedies and some poor ones at best. I never thought of AMC but why not anywhere other than the big 4 networks it would do well.
ReplyDeleteBut Cougar Town is so awesome!!
ReplyDeleteoops didnt see those
ReplyDeleteRinger's numbers are going to be bad, first CW drama to go under 1 million viewers this season?
ReplyDeleteRinger, why are you doing this to me????? ;(
ReplyDeleteYeah, but what is going to be the 5th CW drama to go under 1 million viewers this season?
ReplyDeleteIt didn't go under 1 million ;]
ReplyDeleteOh Cougar Town why won't people give this show a chance? LOOK PAST THE TITLE YOU IDIOTS! #madatheworld
ReplyDeleteI really don't understand why some people don't watch Cougar Town...that's an easy and very funny comedy with such a nice cast.
ReplyDeleteMay be they should have titled it Friends 2 or Buddies like Courteney Cox said, but I can't believe people didn't hear by now that "Cougar Town" was a mistake.
Here, here!
ReplyDeleteAbout Cougar Town I still can't get why on earth the title is so much important for people, when critics and reviews always talk about this show like a funny comedy with a great cast, and about the title like a mistake.
ReplyDeleteI'm just surprised about Cougar Town like I am about Community.
I don't get it either. I just know it's true since more than a few people I have discussed the show with have told me that is why they don;t watch it... and even once I tell them it is not about "cougars" they make a face like I'm lying to them and try to appease me by saying they may try i sometime. XD
