CW - Early renewal/cancellation buzz - Gossip Girl, ANTM,90210,Vampire Diaries safe,Secret Circle, Hart of Dixie, Nikita, Ringer on the bubble

17 Feb 2012

According to some insider CW info (we get this every year):

Gossip Girl, America's Next Top Model,90210 and Vampire Diaries were told they are 100% safe and could receive early renewals for next season.

Supernatural is also considered relatively "safe", there are some issues with its age making it slightly less safe in the above shows, but it is much more likely to be renewed than cancelled and could also make an early renewal.

The CW on the other hand told producers of Hart of Dixie, Nikita, Ringer and surprisingly The Secret Circle that they are "on the bubble". Their fates will likely depend on how much the CW likes their pilots and how many new shows they are willing to pickup.

Nikita producers were told they may be given a decision early so they can write a series finale arc in the final episodes.

  1. GG is 'safe'? That amuses me.

  2. Whats with
Hart of Dixie, Nikita, Ringer and The Secret Circle producers? Wouldn't they tell them earlier if they r gonna get canceled too so they can wrap things up?

    ReplyDelete
  3. GG & 90210 are safe?? WTH?!!! I could deal with losing Hart of Dixie, but not Nikita!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Surprised about Gossip Girl being safe. I was rather expecting it to be cancelled or at most given a last final season.
Sad about Ringer, but that was kind of obvious considering its ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I only know for sure that Nikita were told they would likely get a decision early

    ReplyDelete
  6. Sad about HoD. It is such a cute show and ways better than some of the other shows. I don't see the CW cancel all of their new shows and replace them with new shows but if they cancel three, I'd guess that the SC is safe. Oh, this depresses me. But I cannot understand why they renew GG over and over again.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Could I ask you a question? Do you know how many shows the CW cancels on average per season. Is there even something as an average?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I started watching Nikita and Ringer but soon lost any interest. Especially Ringer, the most boring show ever. Nikita's story lines are just too messed up, the whole Alex thing was just stupid. I never liked her, it should have been Nikita's story not some Alex...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Glad Supernatural isn't "on the bubble"! I doubt that they will cancel it even though its an older show- everyone is pretty confident for at least a season 8 :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Supernatural 'relatively' safe??? SERIOUSLY?? I thought it would be a done deal considering their double PCA win plus the fact that it is a well established show with a loyal fan base

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hmm. Amazed at GG. It is utterly tanking in the ratings. And I can't believe SPN is anything but totally safe either. Not sure what the issues are with its age. It has a tiny cast (of 2) so almost regardless of what the Js get paid its paybill is likely to be far lower than younger shows with much bigger casts.

This has made me worried when I was perfectly confident of SPNs renewal before.

  12. NIKITAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm slightly surprised by Supernatural being only "relatively" safe, considering it pulls bigger A18-49 on Friday than most CW shows during the week. Oh well, it's the CW we're talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  14. last year Hellcats, Life Unexpected, Smallville + Reality
previously year Melrose Place, the beautiful life, reality
but they have more pilots than usual this year so i'd expect maybe one more show than last year say they pick up 4 new dramas they might axe 4 dramas total including one tree hill

    ReplyDelete
  15. OK, I have a really hard time with the legitiamcy of this info based on the Supernatural info. This show has been the CW's #2 performer since it came back this year. It regularly gets a .7-.8 on a Friday night no less, beating all the other shows with the exception of a select few (TVD beats it, TSC, OTH will tie it). Yet it's a toss up while incredibly low rated GG gets an early renewal? I don't buy it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Gossip Girl in safe? That's just hilarous!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Good news for me as long as my 90210 is renewed for Season 5 I am fine with it. I was hoping that The SecretCircle would be renewed for Season 2 for the new CW drama. I love the SecretCircle. My #1 fave CW show is 90210 & my #2 fave is the SecretCircle.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It wouldn't be fair if GG, their second lowest rated show of the season is renewed, and two of their top rated shows this season after TVD, The Secret Circle and Supernatural aren't renewed. I doubt SPN will be cancelled. It could at least come back for one more season, but I hope they don't cancel The Secret Circle!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. How can Grossip Girl be 100% safe? That's just ridiculous!

    ReplyDelete
  20. It seems strange to me too that Supernatural is not amongst the safe renewals.

Up till now it has done its duty on the Friday evening and I don't get the problem about it being an older show. There are shows that have been on air for more than 10 or 11 years.

They have only two main stars to pay, not a galaxy of people.
I would have thought that as long as everyone was willing, and the show was still getting its ratings that the CW would have no doubts about renewing it.

Perhaps these repeat episodes that they are going to air are a sort of test to see if the ratings are still good on another night and not only on a Friday.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Glad for SPN. Ringer isn't a surprise. I'm preparing myself to lose it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. How is Gossip Girl and 90210 more safe than Supernatural?
i just hope that Nikita dont be canceled! i like so much! And CW is bringing some new shows that for me will do worse than the actual ones!

    ReplyDelete
  23. REALLY CW??? Gossip girl with a 0.5 is safe??? We'll see if the show hit other series lows, if there will be another season... i don't think they can renew a crap with a 0.4 and 1 milion!!!
90210 safe too is just ridicolous, at least i hoper they will renew Nikita. The only good show on the network with TVD and Supernatural.
I'm still hoping for a cancellation of Gossip girl, unless a see an official announcement i still believe there possibilities they will cancell it, after last monday...

    ReplyDelete
  24. for suoernatural is ok some episodes were very poor about the story line but the writers are getting better (we hope) the renewal is very close.

    ReplyDelete
  25.  More than its double PCA win and loyal fanbase, the fact it is currently the second highest rated show on the network is what should've made it completely safe. Especially since it only has two regular cast members and they are both contracted through season 8, and eager to do season 8. The writers are also still inspired to tell more stories, and are ending this season on a cliffhanger and setting up season 8 story arcs. I don't see how the CW could end the show on a cliffhanger when it is their second highest rated show. An army of fans would descend upon them like the Second Apocalypse.

    ReplyDelete
  26. They will probably cancel GG next year after everyone's contracts are up. But frankly that show is just laughable. They must make some money with the show in other places though because these ratings are the worst of them all.

    ReplyDelete
  27. According to TVbythenumbers (which has a numeric system by which it determines its renewal/cancellation/bubble index), Supernatural and TVD are "certain" renewals, Nikita/Ringer/Heart of Dixie might be canceled, and the others are likely renewals. Considering SPN is now the second highest rated show after TVD despite its Friday death spot, it's hard to imagine it not being renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. No way in hell they're cancelling supernatural.

    ReplyDelete
  29. how can gossip girl and 90210 be 100% safe? ridiculous!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Also Gossip girl has other 10 episodes to air... they will wait and see how the show will do. I can't see them renew it in a short time.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah, I totally agree.

I'm surprised and actually sad that Supernatural isn't completely safe while GG with less viewers is. I don't understand this.

I have a question if some kind member could explain, please. I keep reading about aging shows costing more to a network, but I don't get why.... Can someone help me to understand?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Can I ask how reliable this info is? How accurate was this intel last year for example? And when would count as an 'early renewal'?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think despite the bad ratings, gossip girl still gets buzz around the world on twitter and so on, whereas nikita, hart of dixie and ringer doesn't even have mentionable buzz..

I still hope Hart of Dixie will stay for another year, I'll take watching more of Lemon Breeland than losing the show altogether. I want Zoe to end up with Wade before the show ends.

I like Nikita but the show is getting stale in my opinion. Destroy Division and go ride off in the sunset with Michael and possibly his son..

90210 is still my guilty pleasure, and I will admit that 90210 in my opinion more funnier than gossip girl..

The Secret Circle had a promising start. I wanted this show about the discover about the powers. Too bad that when the circle bonded, their powers was limited as well except Cassie's.

I would make this show more about not being a circle with powers strapped, but everybody having his own powers and learning to team up more which increases the power by sixfold or something like that.

Wanted also to see more scenes like that one in the forest with all the raindrops floating..

But still happy about TVD, love its breakneck speed through the stories. Season 3 has been the best so far. Every episode I think it couldn't be better, and the show delivers again. With the ratings staying the same in the near future, it looks the show has another 2 or 3 years in it before sinking in ratings..

Still surprised that ANTM is looking at  renewal. How many cycles has it been? 19 or 20? Wasn't it renewed last year for 18th and 19th cycle, and then now for 20th cycle or?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Immediately cancel Hart of Dixie, Ringer, The Secret Circle and save Nikita.

    ReplyDelete
  35. the fuck!!!!!!!! i dont want new season of GG!!! so sick of the same lame story every season!! are u fucking blind CW?!!!!! do u even watch nikita?? NIKITA IS THE BEST SHOW EVER CREATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. It's a shame 90210 and Gossip Girl is safe. Creatively and ratings wise those two are a sinking ship.

TVD and Supernatural are the only two safe show for the CW (ratings, fans, storylines etc.).
Nikita is having it's best season yet but it's just not sitting well with the CW audience.
Same for Ringer, it's getting better and better while it's ratings are just getting lower. I guess the blame goes for the CW and the producers; the night and timeslot is pretty bad (after the sinking 90210?! really?) and the producers could have made the first half differently to hold onto the audience (a lot of them lost interest after 2-3 episodes).Hart of Dixie is a guilty pleasure and is pretty safe, ratings wise is doing pretty good, considering it's timeslot and lead in, but maybe the CW will find something better (as in they think it'll do better) from it's new pilots (Carrie Diaries, anyone?) Secret Circle is not bad, looking at it's numbers, tho they would only know for sure if they would remove it from it's safe lead in. Creatively it's not so good. I mean it has good ideas but it does not hook you in, it doesn't have the uniqueness to it like TVD and many others have. And I'm not to bash B Robertson but she just doesn't do it as Cassie for me - she was good as Lux.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't have an answer so I add myself to your question. Why do older shows cost more?

In my opinion an older show should be cheaper, as everyone knows exactly what they're doing and get things done more expertly and with less waste of time.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Read somewhere that the Nikita people are no longer even counting on a third season, sad news because this season is way better than first year... too bad no one gave it a second chance this season!

    ReplyDelete
  39. last few years it was pretty accurate as far as early renewals go

    ReplyDelete
  40. So if GG is '100% safe now', if after few more episode it goes down, down to, lets say, 0.3 or 0.4 on monday it will still be safe? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  41. Also , whats with Remodeled? Thats reality like Top Model, no? Actually, i think it got 0.2 for last episode, i am quite sure it is safe as some safe thing....

    ReplyDelete
  42. Let's not forget that GG is still pulling more than decent W18-34 numbers, and it's the CW signature show (unfortunately).
And it's actually good news for the eventuality of SPN's 9th season. The more low-rated shows they renew for next year, the better we'll be able to compete !

    ReplyDelete
  43.  Yeah, I agree. Especially it being Supernatural which already have low money to work with comparing to other CW shows and only have two leads. I just don't understand the reasoning.

Man, I just can't believe they're considering GG and 90210safer than their second best rated show. It's depressing me. :(

    ReplyDelete
  44. it doesnt sell advertising based on A 18-49 so those numbers are kinda irrelevent
W 18-34 is more important for GG
for some other shows 18-49 is more important but not for GG

    ReplyDelete
  45. im worried about Nikita! but i think its not good if the CW cancel Nikita and Gossip Girl is 100% safe!
SPN should be 100% safe too! like Next to TVD its the second tv show with better results!
And About The Secret Circle, i think that have good results!! its not the third best? i think that is and they are only in first season, like ringer!! CW will do stupid cancelations! why cw dont give a chance to them?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Remodeled isnt even going to air all its episodes already technically canceled

    ReplyDelete
  47. SS has bad women ratings worse than GG and 90210 and loses alot of its VD leadin and CW might want to use TVD on something else next year

    ReplyDelete
  48. I decided to look at this in a glass half full kind of way. Maybe they want to renew Spn for more than one season and they are discussing/negotiating that possiblity, which is why the "age of the show" is mentioned. That's my headcanon and I'm sticking to it :P

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well I suppose they must have some value for the CW.

I believe a younger audience watches them and so the ad. insertionists pay well to target that age-group.

Certainly they would have cancelled them if they weren't bringing in money and making them some sort of profit.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Do older shows not make money for networks through syndication deals? I thought that would make it cheaper to make.

I was really surprised to hear Supernatural is not a sure thing.. The fact that CW is cancelling newer shows should help them realise that newer is not better, and the established fanbase would turn on them if we see a "to be continued" in the finale, and then a cancellation...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Agreed. I love Nikita. In a way (SPN excepted) it is too good / grown up for the CW. A real shame. It might yet make it though. Its ratings are steady. HoD and Ringers are sinking like a stone. Won't be long before they are below Nikita. That plus the Friday factor IMO could give Nikita the edge for renewal over either of those. So if only 2 of TSC, HoD, Nikita and TSC go Nikita could be renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  52.  Yeah, you're right. I think it's still unfair, though.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The only thing that surprises me is that 90210 is 100% safe and The Secret Circle isn't..
Hart Of Dixie,Ringer and especially Nikita are where I though they would be.
Gossip Girl will get a final season, which was expected and,in my opinion, deserved. Its ratings are bad now,but it has a huge fanbase around the world and after five years they deserve a final season.

Also, even though I'm still 110% sure that Supernatural will be renewed, their logic confuses me a little.
"Issues with its age." That's the point..They should know that the ratings(which are always the third and often the second best)are coming from viewers that have been watching for 7 years and they'll continue to watch. There will be some drop in the ratings next year,as it happens with every show, every year, but I'm not expecting anything huge.
    So,just renew it already!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm with you on Ringer, but next ep I am looking forward to as Misha Collins/Castiel is going to be on it.  Love me some Misha before he comes back on Supernatural. lol

    ReplyDelete
  55.  Color me cynical But I doubt CW care about "loyal fan base".
Anyway, "relatively safe" is still good news :-)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I was just thinking that these four "in danger "shows all have female leads.
Maybe they just haven't had enough charisma to carry their shows.

One can like or not like the V. Diaries but there is no doubt the lead actors don't lack in charisma and can definitely carry the show, especially Nina and Ian.
For me they are 90% the reason that the show is so successful.

    ReplyDelete
  57. A PCA win means squat, Moonlight won Best New Drama and CBS promptly cancelled it.  Supernatural, TVD & Hart of Dixie are my favorite shows on CW, hate that one may not be back.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I like Nikita too, but if I had to choose and pick the shows that scream CW to me.. it would be TSC and HoD. Simply because those are new shows, they deserve a second year to prove that they are worth it... I just seriously doubt whether Nikita would regain its viewership in a third year, while the second year has already shown that people are not watching (which is a shame because it is a good show).

In this picture I am not even thinking about Supernatural (it will get renewed) and Ringer (pretty sure it will get cancelled, because it gets more confusing, less viewers and boring each episode, seriously: murder, kidnapping, suicide, molesting, drugs, cheating, stealing, new york/paris, Siobhan/Bridget who is who at what time, and the FBI agent who is too stupid to figure it all out, all in 15 episodes... my head is going to explode!)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Maybe it has to do with the lead actors paycheck ? Does anywone know if Jared and Jensen have asked for a pay raise over the years?

It's not a very strong argument though.

Idleofskye made a good point concerning an older show cheaper costs.

    ReplyDelete
  60. what...the...HELL???Are they friggin SERIOUS???90210 and Gossip Girl will be 100 % renewed but it's not certain for Supernatural???????CW SUCKS

    ReplyDelete
  61. Andy I like your thinking!! That had occurred to me actually. Maybe the debate is about whether to renew it for 1 or 2 seasons?

It is nice here in Happy-la-la Land!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I wanted to like TSC, but none of the character hooked me, as much as I wanted John Connors back on my TV, I just don't care what happens to any of them.  Hart of Dixie is also my guilty pleasure, love all of them, even Lemon. lol  And I want to see what happens to them.  Ringer is getting better and with Misha Collins showing up I know I will LOVE at least one ep.  Have never watched GG or 90210.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Not that I'm aware of, but what do I know? Lol...

They're more than willing to continue, though and are pretty happy on Set. Chris also is right about syndication, so... Yeah, the more I think about it, the less sense it makes...

    ReplyDelete
  64. i hope RINGER get a second Season!!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I agre with you about newer not being better as the CW ratings  this year for their new shows have proven.

I really hate it when  the networks air new shows and then they cancel them after a few months or even a year.

They should pick out pilots with more care and assure the writers of at least a renewal of two years to give the show time to evolve and pick up a fan -base.

When a network announces its going to cancel a show people just end up not watching the remaining episodes any more anyway so even the ad insertionists have thrown away good money!

    ReplyDelete
  66. LOL, I am liking the way you think...SPN is my favorite show on TV, just a hair ahead of TVD for me.  A very small hair. ;)  Would love to see a spin off from TVD called The Originals and one from SPN called Heaven & Hell with Castiel & Crowley or C2. lol

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'll try to answer the question 'why are older shows more expensive'? It is usually true that as a show ages it gets more expensive to make (once the initial set up costs of sets etc are paid for) because the writers  get promoted (become exec producers etc) so their pay goes up, and the cast usually get paid more season by season. Once ratings start to drop this equation reduces profit margins until it isn't viable any more.

But in SPNs case this shouldn't apply. There has been a turnover in writers so we don't have Eric Kripke and others who were there from the start demanding high salaries. There are in fact a lot of new writers.

And as for the cast costs; The Js each get around $125,000 per ep which is not the most on CW by any means, and there are only 2 cast members. Even if the stars of GG are only on, say, $80,000 per ep each there are about 10 of them so their costs should be higher. Hence this 'older shows get more expensive' rule of thumb shouldn't apply to SPN.

There are other factors in SPNs favour too. It is the only CW show currently in syndication (with TNT) and they are eager to grab every new ep that comes along. It is the CWs highest earner on DVD, and one of the highest on Netflix. However who gets the $ made from these sources is complex. Much of it goes to WB rather than CW. So CW may be trying to negotiate a lower licence fee from WB.

I personally think it is 100% certain that SPN will be renewed. Not sure what this 'issue with the age of the show' can be.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thanks for sharing! I'm as surprised as everyone to find out that "90210" and "Gossip Girl" are safe. I was under the impression that "Gossip Girl" is all but sure to wrap after this season -- and with "90210" being the ratings disaster that it is, I didn't think it would once again escape the ax (or burst the bubble).
I wonder what will happen with "Supernatural" though. It seems like there's that same crossroad each year as the show continues to age and you're not sure whether they'll actually pull off another renewal.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Thank you for answering about this issue, geordiegirl1967! :)

Maybe this "old age" is just an excuse then?

    ReplyDelete
  70. I hope Supernatural is more than safe. This show is awesome and has done very well in bringing in good ratings for the CW. Please renew it sooner than later!

    ReplyDelete
  71.  Thanks for you detailed reply but as you say the cost factor shouldn't really be applied to Supernatural, so why is the CW even considering a non-renewal. ( I shake my head, mystified by the CW: Lol)

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm surprised that The Secret Circle is on the bubble. I thought the show as doing well as The Vampire Diaries.  The girl on The Secret Circle that lives with her Grandma was previously on Life Unexpected.  Also, the man who played her father on Life Unexpected stars on Ringer. Ringer is not as good as other shows

    ReplyDelete
  73. I feel with Supernatural that we are starting to get some episodes that feel like older seasons. I would hate for them to cancel the show after that...

With Ringer, we aren't very far with it in the UK but so far I think it's really good. It was a bit weird at the beginning but it's gotten really good. I would hate for them to cancel that too.

I sort of wish they would take international fans into consideration too but that's not going to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  74.  Its all about POLITICS not ratings :o/

    ReplyDelete
  75. Gossip Girl is safe ? The serie who made the worst views on the CW ! just ironic! Nikita or Ringer deserve to have a new season ;)

    ReplyDelete
  76. I can maybe see Gossip Girl and 90210 get final season pick-up's. I'm a huge Supernatural fan but I feel it's run it's course and should go out while still viable. Nikita really has come into it's own and season 2 has been amazing I so hope it gets another season.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Sadly, i would not be surprised if SPN gets cancelled. I think it has run its course. The CW has ordered quite a few new shows. so there is a chance that SPN might not be back next season, despite its decent ratings. I am hoping that there will be an eight season, though.

    ReplyDelete
  78.  No, it's about New Media and visibility.

It will be a final season.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Well I said there was possibilty Supernatural would get cancled and I was blasted. It doesn't surprise me Gossip Girl, and 90210 are safe. The CW Is still targeting heavily the 18-34 female audence.Plus look at how much you still see Gossip Girl ads.The CW has always acted like Gossip Girl Is It's most popular show.

Unfortunitly most Intresting CW shows with except of Vampire Diaries are on the bubble.Out of those shows I suspect Ringer Is most likely to get renewed. The CW has been airing an awful lot of Ringer
ads. That tells me they like It better than some think.I do like the fact they are prepared to let producers of Nikita know so they can end the series properly If they are being axed.

It will come down to how well the new pilots are received, which bubble shows the regime likes, and which shows they order.

If Ringer Is renewed and CW picks up Beauty and the beast I can see those shows being aired on one night. If Arrow Is picked up I could see It airing after Vampire Diaries. Also considering If Arrow Is picked up the Cw might air It after Gossip Girl with the fact Arrow has cast 2 Gossip Girl past guest stars Katie Cassidy and willa Holland.

It won't surprise me If Supernatural and Ringer are renewed and rest of bubble shows are axed.

Personally I would renew Nikita over ringer but ringer got a 0.9 In Demo and Nikita Is stuck at 0.5 In Demo.

The Secret Circle Is surprise. But I suspect It is on bubble since the CW plans to air a new show after
The Vampire Diaries next season and they know It would collopse without the Vampire Diaries as lead In.

    ReplyDelete
  80. ANTM does better than some of their scripted dramas and all of their reality shows.  Not surprised it's coming back.

GG, on the other hand...its possible renewal frustrates me.  And GG's Twitter buzz is largely the work of a group of organized shippers, not average viewers watching the show live.  Hopefully they'll get 12 episodes and tank against PLL, The Voice, et al next year like it should.

    ReplyDelete
  81. SPN is even stupider show then TVD or/and TSC....just sad they keep it on TV. I would preform shot in the dark and assume that 80% of viewers of mentioned shows are teenage girl who are gonna run away from tv like a bullet when they get possibility of getting BF. Such a loyal audience, that teen girls.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Such a shame 90210 is safe. This season is the worst ever. The storylines are ridiculous and the only good character is Naomi. CW should cancel this crap and put AnnaLynne McCord on another show.
I hope Nikita, The Secret Circle and Hart of Dixie get renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  83. As much as I wanted Ringer to be safe too, the ratings aren't helping :( I'm also sad Nikita is in danger too :(

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'm fine with the fact that you think Supernatural is stupid because, even though you're in a huge minority, you're entitled to have a different opinion.
On the other hand, what you said about the viewers is simply statistically wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'm a little surprised 90210 is safe. Didn't know it was that popular a show. I think GG is doing really well internationally and that they have a passionate fan base.

I really want Supernatural to continue too, but I get that it's a little difficult to say when they are supposed to end it. Everytime you think they have reach a plot they won't be able to do any better, they pull something crazy out of the bag.

I hope The Secret Circle and Hart of Dixie continues too. I think The Secret Circle is going to live, but I am not sure about Hart of Dixie.

It is fine if they wrap Nikita up. I find most of the plot lines pretty weak and the show do not hold me captivated at all. I usually wait, and then watch 10 episodes on a rainy day or something like that.

  86. You have no idea how much I'm rooting for a spin-off with The Originals. They're just perfect!Imagine a show with Klaus,Elijah,Rebekah,Kol(the dialogues alone) and Esther as the bad guy/mother(Finn can fit somewhere too,I guess)!  : )

  87. So strange to see that Gossip Girl is "100% safe".  I can see the CW giving it a final season, but nothing beyond that.  It's nice to see that Supernatural is relatively safe, but with their comments about its age, I could see them getting a final season as well.  And I'm disappointed that Ringer's in so much trouble - it's getting really good!

  88. 27 proud fan off SPN I also happen to have a BF who likes the show too.

Bitterness is so unbecoming my dear, I hope all Nikita fans arent as pathetic as you?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Very informative answer. Thank you!
They also have some good money income with the conventions and other fan things. (Not sure CW is the beneficiary)

Maybe Jensen or Jared got some grey hairs ? Do not fear CW, even with grey hairs we love our Winchesters!
    :-D

  90. I really hope Hart of Dixie will be renewed  ;/ And I´m happpy that Supernatural looks safe ;)

  91. Syndication does make money but not for the network.  Those profits go to the company that produces the show.  In this case, Warner Brothers gets the syndication money instead of the CW.  However, since the W in CW is Warner Brothers, the TNT syndication is a win all around.

  92. The lead actors of a show get a pay raise every time their contract gets renewed, so yes, they are getting paid probably quite a bit more than they did for season 1.  However, everyone else also gets a pay raise every time they renew their contracts.  While my guess is that Jensen and Jared are among the top 10 percent in salary for SPN, there are also all the crew members, many of whom have been with the show for 7 years.  Add to that the fact that shows decrease in the ratings the longer they are around (NCIS being the obvious exception), there is more expense each year with fewer profits from advertising.  I think that's what they mean by older shows being more expensive.

  93. NOOOO! I like Secret Circle and Nikita!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Supernatural! :( I want to hear that it's 100% safe, not 'mostly' safe.... D: It has to be renewed, it just has to be!

    ReplyDelete
  95. They better no cancel secret circle it will be another life unexpected move. That show was awesome and they killed it. Same with secret circle. Ughh damn cw.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Should have read your reply before writing mine.  Great job!  I think there is some behind the scenes negotiating going on too. If Supernatural gets renewed this year, and let's face it - it will, then the lead actors go into negotiation for a possible season 9 and 10.  That always leads to a complex song and dance from both sides and this may be part of it.  Of course, there is also the fact that everything in here is only rumor and may be a good way to drum up publicity in the wake of falling ratings.  I'm not going to worry until we hear the first wave of official cancellations/renewals.

    ReplyDelete
  97. You're an idiot, and clearly you've never paid attention to SPN's ratings, as it's just as male-oriented as Nikita.

You're probably upset that Nikita's going to be cancelled but if you're going to be an ass about it, at least get your facts right.

    ReplyDelete
  98.  That would make me happy.  I just can't see them renewing GG and not Supernatural.  Supernatural gets better ratings for goodness sake!  90210 I understand.  I don't watch it, but I understand. It's ratings are toward the high end of the CW shows.  But Supernatural only being  "relatively safe" makes me mad.  I'm pretty certain it will be renewed, but I wish the CW would say so that the producers could wrap things up if the decision to cancel has been made.  They did say they are planning to end the show on a cliffhanger, so advance warning that the show is "too old" for the CW so they can wrap everything in a neat bow would be the one thing they could do for all the loyal fans of Supernatural.  Fans that are still making it one of the highest rated shows on the network.

Why 9 seasons for SN, what are the bros supposed to do anymore ? Fight aliens ?
Anyway GG is not going anywhere and the ratings will rise again now with dair...

  102. So happy that the vampire diaries is safe. I love this show, hands down my favorite show on tv! Ugh CW treats Supernatural like crap, it should be an early renewal! This show has the second highest rating of any CW show. If they don't renew the show, I'll be so mad.  Sad to hear that Hart of Dixie & Secret Circle are on the bubble. I'm really enjoying the secret circle, its an amazing show & its sad that more people aren't watching it. Also Hart of Dixie is adorable but I'm worried for the show because they ordered the first cut pilot. They do have a lot of interesting pilots next year, so I wonder if this is why 4 shows are on the bubble.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I think there still are so much stories to be told. I mean we're in season 7 and I think it's still great.

Don't get your hopes up about GG's ratings going up. Shipping has no influence on that.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I was also surprised about 90210, but since it's been on a few years, maybe they want to give them a final season...

I also hope Secret Circle and Hart of Dixie continue!!!

    ReplyDelete
  105. And here we go again.  Thanks for allowing me to bring out the statistics again.  Supernatural is not now nor has it ever been a teenage driven show.  That is why the CW under Dawn Ostroff tried to ax it for so long.  It skews second only to Nikita in number of viewers 49+ and is usually number 1 in male viewers.  According to Nielsen last year, the average age of a Supernatural fan is 37 with about 50% of its viewers male.  That can be found here:

    http://geekfurious.blogspot.com/2011/06/what-geek-tv-show-has-youngest-viewers.html

It obviously does not fit the typical CW stereotype and is thus part of the problem it has with the network.  As for the audience leaving in droves because they find a new boyfriend, well that's just ridiculous.  Of all shows on the CW, Supernatural has the most steady ratings.  While other shows bounce all over the map, SPN has gotten a 0.8 or 0.7 in the demos every single episode this season.  It doesn't change no matter what show is aired opposite it, whether there is a holiday or not, or due to the weather.  It is by far the most consistent show on the CW and quite frankly is more consistent than most shows period.  It has been for years.  Yes, I'd love those numbers to be higher but the core Supernatural audience hasn't change a whole lot and certainly not this season.

You can hate on Supernatural all you want and you can lash out at any show because Nikita is doing poorly.  I am sorry that your show is likely to be canceled.  However, statistics prove that Supernatural is not a teen show and anyone who thinks that is either going only on the reputation of the CW or is blatantly avoiding the facts.  Quite honestly, just watching a couple episodes of SPN shows that this show is nothing like the rest of the CW fare.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I think making  Warner Brothers (50 percent owner of the CW) 20-25 million every year just on DVD/Blu-Ray & online episode sales is still viable to a company that is in the business to make money.

Not to mention that in A18-49 (the gold standard for ratings) it's the 2nd highest rated show on the network. While doing it on a Friday at 9pm (which has been called the death spot for a show)

    ReplyDelete
  107. In the end, it's all about money.
If we wanted to influence the PTB decision, threatening to boycott advertising would be more effective than writing about why we love our show :-)

I sometime wonder why NCIS is such a succesful show.
It is no different from other procedural. It's quite repetitive and the characters don't evolve much.
Still, I'm not passionate by NCIS it but I like it very much and watch it every week.

    Thank you for your answer.

    ReplyDelete
  108. There you are...I knew you'd know where to find the statistics!I didn't..

    ReplyDelete
  109. I need SPN, Nikita and TVD to be safe, so one down, two to go.

    ReplyDelete
  110.  The CW is so incompetent, they will continue to fail if they keep limiting their demos.

    ReplyDelete
  111. It's the CW giving Gossip Girl the special treatment again, and not giving Supernatural slack even though it does better than most of these shows.

    ReplyDelete
  112. It's not because of W18-34 numbers, last episode was a 0.5 and it usually gets a 0.6, that's hardly decent.

It's the CW giving Gossip Girl the special treatment even though shows like Supernatural does way better.

    ReplyDelete
  113.  I'm sorry you feel that way about Supernatural and its fans; your assumption of them being all stupid teenage bimbos is unfair because its totally untrue.

I understand that one may be upset because a favourite show may be cancelled but it's not fair to take your anger out on others who have no fault in the matter.

I'll say no more as the posters who preceded me have already capable covered everything.

    ReplyDelete
  114.  Even in the W 18-34 it does terribly.  The CW is just trying to make up excuses to give Gossip Girl the special treatment.

Haven't they learned from Dawn Ostroff's mistakes?  They deserve to continue to decline as a failing network.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Supernatural will be renewed.  That's a given with the ratings and the fact that the cast is locked into a contract through season 8.  The only thing up to debate with this is whether they settle on a contract for season 9 and for how long that contract will go.  I'm guessing they will contact for up to season 10, everything dependent on ratings of course.  The good news is that the cast contracts with Warner Brothers not the CW and WB is far far more interested in the show's syndication and DVD sales.

Gossip Girl is an odd breed.  It gets by far the most money per ad of any show on the CW.  However, that was based on last year's still sucky but not catastrophic ratings.  This year that ad number should go way down so they will really have to sell it at upfronts.  It's owned by CBS and Warner Brothers so it's a CW child all around.  Plus, it has more than enough episodes for syndication if they find a buyer.  I'm guessing it will come to a basic cable women's channel near you, although I'm not sure how well it will do in syndication since it is slightly more time bound than say procedurals.  I'm not terribly shocked that it will be renewed.  The CW is a sucker for announcing final seasons.  However, I will not only be at a stage two heart attack if it gets renewed without being a final season, but I will also question whether Mark Pedowitz was the right choice for the job.  It will show a serious lack of vision on his part.

90210 is also interesting.  It is an aging show but the ratings are high mid pack for the CW so it may be that they want to announce a final season of it too (although not as likely as GG).  If it was me, I would have GG and 90210 share a time slot and give them both final seasons for the fans.  If the CW wants to change its image from a teen girl netlet, then both of these shows need to go.  As far as Ringer and Nikita are concerned, they are as good as canceled.  It has nothing to do with the quality of either show, just ratings.  Unless they have a secret clause saying Ringer has to stay or they are simply too embarrassed by making that their most touted show, there is no reason to renew it.  Ratings are unlikely to increase with a second season.  Nikita already got a mercy save last year and hasn't capitalized on it.    It is also extremely unlikely to increase ratings if given another season.

I'm guessing Secret Circle is going to get this year's mercy save if its ratings continue to fall.  It has the best chance of succeeding on its own without VD to push it, especially if they make it a huge summer marketing push.  Do I think it will work?  No, but I think the CW likes to renew one new show each year and SC has the best shot.  As far as Hart of Dixie goes, this is the only one I think is truly bubblicious.  It's standing depends solely on the pilots for next year.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Considereing that the demos and ratings are down, I'd say less and less people are watching.

    ReplyDelete
  117.  Buzz doesn't pay the bills or even help them, especially since most of it is just shipping crap or whining about the show itself.

    ReplyDelete
  118. It's already tanking against PLL, but that's their own problem.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Media and visibility has not helped, especially in the overhyped 100th episode that produced mediocre results, it's the CW's own loss.

    ReplyDelete
  120. If anything, it will continue to decline like it always has been, shipping hasn't helped in 1 way or another.

    ReplyDelete
  121. There is a campaign going to thank Supernatural advertisers and to let them know when we buy their products.  That is definitely better than sending useless things to the CW.  More information can be found here:

    http://spnng.tumblr.com/

Of course I think SPN is a lock for renewal this year, but it never hurts to let advertisers know you appreciate their support of your show.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Unfortunately you are right.  Lie to Me won last year and got canceled too.  The only upside is that the CW is a tanking netlet so it needs as much free press for good things as it can get.  Supernatural fans provide that for them.  It is possible that the PCA wins mean more on the CW than it ever would on a network that actually makes money.  However, the decision of the PCA to not air those awards sends a dangerous message to the CW.  It says that even if the show wins, it will not get on-air credit therefore limiting its promotional impact.

    ReplyDelete
  123. In all fairness, the CW is doing more now for Supernatural than it did for years under Ostroff.  Heck, she didn't even mention SPN in some of the whole network advertising.  Now I'm not saying that they shouldn't do more for Supernatural, but the new head does seem to like it.  Putting SPN repeats after VD this March is definitely a step in the right direction.  If those repeats can get a 0.5 in demo, it will be an impressive reminder of just how loyal SPN viewers are.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Even thought I sometimes feel like a teen, am 73 and most of my friends over 50 love SPN.  The show is about FAMILY, a family that just happens to be hunters of things that go bump in the night.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Ha!  I have to pull out the statistics at least once a year, usually during the Best Show contest, so I have them bookmarked now.  I also have stats bookmarked that prove that Supernatural doesn't kill off more women than it does men, another prevalent fallacy.

    ReplyDelete
  126. If things are as you say about Supernatural, then why all this coyness in announcing it; always assuming that all this buzz is true. Why don't they just say it's renewed?

If it's because they are negotiating up to season 10, then they can take all the time they want.:)

It would be such an asset for the show to be able to programme three years of a gradual story- arc without having to wonder if each season is going to be the last.

    ReplyDelete
  127. They will have 92 episodes by the end of this season so perhaps they are trying for the magic 100 episodes.  In all fairness though, 90210 has better ratings than the majority of the CW so based on that alone it would be more likely to be renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  128. It is highly unlikely that any show, but especially one that has been on air for five seasons, will ever increase substantially in ratings.  The best that returning shows can hope for is that the bleed from one season to another will be minimal.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Well, then you'd be oh so wrong.

Cacti have more ratings and demographics knowledge than you.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I think that SPN should end. I love it, but I think it should end. It has become so pointless in terms of story arc, and even if it retains solid writing and acting, everything feels so disconected and even random.

I liked SPN better when it was about the myth arc, and I haven't enjoyed last two seasons overall.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Thanks, I can always use a hug. lol

    ReplyDelete
  132. I don't like the whole renewal/don't renew system and why they base the rating on 18-49 demo. Not fair to the older people and the younger people. :P

Also don't understand why GG and 90210 are safe. But then, the only shows I think are the successes on this network are Vampire Diaries and Supernatural (even at its age). I think Nikita is a success too but guess my opinion doesn't match viewers. I am really hoping it gets renewed though. I don't understand why there aren't more people watching.

Maybe if more people knew the CW existed there would be. My 13 year old cousin watched the 1st season in 3 days flat a couple of months back. Loves it. I know other people my age who would like it so it's not just young teenagers.

At least if they get canceled they will get time to wrap up. That's all I really care about with any show-getting a nice and wrapped up ending. Doesn't matter how long it lasts as long as the ending isn't a train wreck of unanswered questions.

I know the town where I lived before every time I talked about the CW they either didn't know about it or watched One Tree Hill. As the WB shows die, the CW network is dying as well. (VD and Nikita are the only decent shows the CW has created in my opinion). And I'm willing to bet their pilots they're planning- a lot will fail.

They need to stop putting Gossip Girl and 90210 as the CW's representation. If it's working somehow, it's not working very well. They need a better show to use to get new viewers. There is a reason CW doesn't have a lot of viewers like the other networks do. They created their bad rep.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I don't think the PCA got enough flack for NOT showing the top award, that was uncalled for, like the Oscars not showing the winning movie.  So along with the doll of CBS that I stick pins in, I now have one for PCA. lol

    ReplyDelete
  134. Unfortunately, even if they are contracted for season 10 it doesn't mean that there has to be a season 10.  Everything relies on the overall demo ratings for a season.  However, if things continue as they are for CW's ratings, if the leads still want to continue, if SPN bleeds no more than 0.1 next season AND, this is the big one, the CW remains in existence, season 10 is not too far a stretch.  It would put SPN at just shy of 200 episodes too which is an amazing run.  To paraphrase Community fans, 10 seasons and a movie.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I am 73 and most of my friends have more disposable income than younger ones, house, car paid for, so have never understood why advertisers don't like us. lol

    ReplyDelete
  136. Gossip Girl & 90210 both safe??? what the hell are they doing

    ReplyDelete
  137. It's sad that the 25,000 people with the Nielsen boxes control the fate of TV it is so outdated (as are commercials when they can just do integrated product placement or scroll ads along the bottom).

    ReplyDelete
  138. It seems they want to continue Dawn Ostroff's legacy of destroying a network by making dumb decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Exactly. Nikita should have been on another network. Too grown up for CW, too true.

    ReplyDelete
  140. A movie, which wouldn't be overly ambitious, as some of the movies that come into the cinemas are so pathetic.
I'm thinking of "Green Lantern"  here, which my son wanted to see and I shudder!

Ten years would be a real milestone for Supernatural.  I hope the cast and crew get it; they deserve it, as do the fans. :)

    ReplyDelete
  141. Can you explain to me what is syndication ?? :)

    ReplyDelete
  142. Syndication is when another network pays to show reruns of a show.  TNT bought the rights to show a certain number of Supernatural episodes from seasons 1-6.  It brought in millions of dollars to the WB, which in turns allows SPN to be profitable for them even if the CW pays less money to show new episodes.  All in all, syndication is the best way for TV shows to make money for a production company.  The fact that Supernatural does so well for TNT (was in the top 5 things that air on TNT several times) means that they are likely to continue to order more Supernatural episodes, creating even more revenue from the show.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I've known about SPN and GG for awhile, really a no brainer (but I am telling you this fall will be both shows last season). That's why I haven't really been complaining and have developed a whole wait and see approach. I am cherishing and savoring these last moments. Once they go off it will be an end of era for a lot me and my friends.  I could really wait for TVD to come out on DVD so, really once GG and SPN leave The CW line up, I am done with them. None of the pilots have piqued my interest. Not even JJ's. All my older shows on network TV have really disintegrated in quality over the last two years, so much so that, I really only watch FX, Showtime and HBO. Not to mention almost any show that I get into, it will more than likely be cancelled (Flash Forward, The Event, Undercovers, V, I could go on but I won't bore you).  I look at The CW and I know why they are failing. They don't get it. They don't crack the whip. They don't intervene enough. A lot of the writing of "well-established" shows go for long story arcs that seem like f--- you's to the fans. A few producers have even disparaged certain types of fans in writing numerous times. So, I will stick by the aforementioned shows to the end but then I am out of The CW grasp for good. I will wait for the Carrie Diaries to come out on DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  144. No:( Secret Circle:( and Supernatural. But at least The Vampire Diaries is safe:)

    ReplyDelete
  145. Good to know that Nikita will--hopefully--get advance warning. I was never optimistic about its renewal so I would really like to have a planned ending.

As for GG. Come on. It's numbers are pathetic. Worse than the CW's new shows. And none of those are doing particularly well. If you wanna give it a final 13 eps, fine. But stick a fork in it already.

    ReplyDelete
  146. @eidnoreid those numbers are a 18-49 not w 18-34

    ReplyDelete
  147. "Wanted also to see more scenes like that one in the forest with all the raindrops floating.."

I think most of the budget for the season went into that one scene.

    ReplyDelete
  148. THE CW Is so stupid. Just let GG go already! It has been going down hill since halfway through season 2. JUST LET IT GO!

    ReplyDelete
  149. Hart of Dixie deserves a second season.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Ohhh Thank you so much !! I've seen the term many times in the comments but didn't know what it was :)

    ReplyDelete
  151. I guess the CW wants to continue to down with dumb decisions like this and they wonder why their network is failing.

    ReplyDelete
  152. And that is why the networks wait as long as possible before announcing which shows get canceled.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Nikita can't be canceled. This season has been AMAZING. Best intense jaw dropping episodes than last year. And as for SN. The show will get renewed. I'm almost certain. The fact it only mentioned Nikita has me worried this actually will be it's last season. It's not final yet but they're making it sound like it is.

    ReplyDelete
  154. no no no noooooo keeep nikita and ringer !!!

    ReplyDelete
  155. Sure they do.  SPN is down to its core fan base now, meaning its ratings will likely not drop more than about 10% next season.  While a new show like Secret Circle doesn't have a big loyal fan base so it could easily lose 30% of its viewers next season, especially if it got moved to Friday.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Save The Secret Circle and Nikita! Along with TVD and Supernatural, those are really the only good shows on the CW. I wish people watched them LIVE more.

    ReplyDelete
  157. PLEASE CW, do not cancel The Secret Circle!! The show is sooo good. This second half of the season is just killing it; it's fantastic. Plus, it's been keeping steady with its ratings and is one of your highest rated shows, please don't cancel it!!

    ReplyDelete
  158.  Save Nikita!!!!!!!!!  How is GG and 90210 100% safe???? Who watches that crap!

    ReplyDelete
  159. As much as I have enjoyed Gossip Girl, i think the show has run its course, and at least deserves to get a good send off! Chuck/Blair!
TVD has to be renewed...and so does SPN!
I quite enjoy Hart of Dixie and The Secret Circle but it surely doesnt look good for them!
All we can hope for are good send offs and not abrupt cancellation with cliffhanger finales!

    ReplyDelete
  160. I agree, Nielsen is so outdated with the way TV is watched, but that is a whole other can of worms. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  161. So you took what TV By The Numbers wrote and some chatter from their cancel/renewal index and made up an article to get page hits...

    ReplyDelete
  162. Gossip Girl doesn't need another season of pointless excuses/terrible storylines like the Louis/royal crap.

    ReplyDelete
  163. This is very, very odd. CW seems headed for a huge drop next year - they'd better renew Supernatural at any rate.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Great summary of the ratings, Dahne. I find it personally wounding that people think I'm a teenage girl and its nice to know the real facts (though I have to admit I thought there were many more female than male).

    ReplyDelete
  165. It would make Supernatural among five of the longest running fantasy/horror shows. I sure am hoping for the movie!

    ReplyDelete
  166. TVD is safe!!! YAAAY!!! thats all that matters to me :))

i´m suprised GG is safe.. how is that even possible with such bad ratings?

    ReplyDelete
  167. I know. If they want to be a good network they need to promote their new shows more and stop promoting ones that are going down the drain more.

    ReplyDelete
  168. TVBTN has predictions based on a 18-49 this is based on CW info and is completely different from TVBTN?
i belive they have Gossip Girl on the bubble and Secret Circle safe

    ReplyDelete
  169. Don't play with my heart, I need to know I'll have more SPN!!!
GG is safe??? Why powers that be, WHY??? We had more than enough... the ratings are a shame... I gave up on this show at the beginning of season 2...I'm always waiting for TSC to get good. It doesn't. It had a good premise but...
Hope Ringer survives, it's really good.

    ReplyDelete
  170. if Nikita gets cancelled we ALL should band together and BOYCUT ALL their shows next season to teach them how wrong they were. Who is with me?

    ReplyDelete
  171.  Thank you. GG is still on the air because of these numbers, it was created to score high on young women. It still does.

    ReplyDelete
  172. The amount of comments on this article people sure love their CW shows

    ReplyDelete
  173. Interesting news, thanks. I just wonder if they don't renew Supernatural because it is "old" and it seems to be consistently high, 2nd or 3rd behind VD usually if they aren't going to lose a lot of pissed off Supernatural fans from the network...'cause lets face it it doesn't seem wise to piss off that fandom at all ;) I wouldn't watch the CW anymore, there would be no need since I only watch Supernatural.

But I am an "aging" fan (LOL) and the CW isn't marketing to me so what do I know?

    ReplyDelete
  174. Why is Gossip Girl safe? Its ratings are lower than Nikita

  175.  I have to use this stupid handle for some reason LOL Anyhow they took what Robert said about SPN age being an issue and just worded it differently. Took what the GG producers said in an interview that was posted at TV By the Numbers..

All this inside info is rumors based on what has been said at TVBTN in the renewal/cancel indexes and daily ratings posts.. ;) sorry but I will stick with TVBTN they have been the most accurate...

  176. All of the people asking how GG is safe...you obviously don't know it get's a lot of viewers and is always trending it is actually a popular show...and they only are going to do like one more season of it to wrap it up...

  177. GG getting another season is no surprise. I imagine next season will be the "final season". 90210 on the other hand, I am surprised. That show is underperforming and has not even been that big of a show for The CW so I thought that they would have cancelled that show over better performing series like The Secret Circle and Hart of Dixie.

  178. Not me. Never watched the show since it's basically a rehash of a better show that had been done previously. I watch for Supernatural and for no other reason.

  179. One thing that SPN has as an advantage is that the series can reinvent itself on a regular basis. There are so many interesting world mythologies to explore so the show can always pull something fresh an interesting out of their hat. For a while it was angels and demons. Now we go on to Leviathans.

GG on the other hand is tied to more mundane issues and there's only so much they can do to keep things fresh. Unlike SPN, which is character and plot driven, GG is completely character driven and short of completely recasting the show with younger actors (since the cast is getting a bit long in the tooth), there's only so much they can do to inject new storylines without completely stretching the bounds of believability.

  180. Two things-

90210 is doing better than HOD
90210 is not far off syndication

  181. It does not get lots of viewers and lots of shows trend but yes it will get another season or half season to wrap.

  182. Its ratings are not lower than Nikita's, Nikita is still the lowest rated drama on network TV.

    ReplyDelete
  183. while I havent really thought much of these past two seasons either who are you to decide when a show should end, no one is making you watch, you can quit at any time and let those who do enjoy iot continue to do so. It should not be cancelled just because YOU dont like it.

    ReplyDelete
  184. If people who watched, let's say Hart of Dixie and Nikita, and , for exemple, they cancel HoD and renew Nikita, would you be happy if those people boycutt Nikita and your show suffer cause their other show has be cancel?

    ReplyDelete
  185. no show currently on the CW is going to be doing better next season than it is this season. With how low ratings are now imagine how low they will go next season. It makes sense to cancel the lowest rated and renew the highest.

  186. My guess is that Gossip Girl and Supernatural get a final season order because next season they have to renegotiate contracts for both shows, which will more likely make them more expensive than CW can afford

    ReplyDelete
  187. clearly more people think Nikita is stupid than they do SPN

  188. I really dont see the similarity but you're free to believe whatever you like have a nice day :)

  189.  The Netflix deal made sure that the CW will stay afloat for a couple of years at least. Unless of course, it looses 30% of it's viewers like this year.

  190. For Gossip Girl with the ratings who keep on falling, I wouldn't be surprise. For SPN' we'll need to see. If CW annonce a final season, its a big bet to take that:

    1) Their old shows (who are all, except the vampires, doing worse than SPN, will do better, or stay steady)
    2) Their new shows will all (or a least some of them) have big ratings and be hit
SPN and the vampires are the only one who aren't falling this sprint and are the 2 most watch shows now. SPN is a sure bet. If they take the risk to cut SPN, and the rest keep falling (which is very likely) and their news show failed too, CW will only stay with the vampires. I'm not saying they won't do it, but if they do that's one big risk to take to cut one of your only 2 sure shows before knowing what will happen

  191. Exactly what I was saying.  Although I do see them making Gossip Girl the exception just like they always do simply because the ratings are only one part of the story.  The money is the other.  No way anyone at the CW thinks the ratings will rise.  Most likely they hope the ratings won't decrease if they announce final season.  I don't see it happening and once again every show (including SPN sadly) will be down.  Can you survive as a netlet if your average is a 0.5 -  0.6 demo?

    ReplyDelete
  192.  It'd be really dumb for the CW to announce more than one final season, as they have zero guarantees that their new shows will succed.

    ReplyDelete
  193. Surprisingly? not surprisingly for The Crappy Circle!! It's lost all the lead it gained in fall!! The show is not that amazing to be honest!
but 90210 a certain renewal?? Buhahahahaha that's the worst joke evah!!!!!!!!!
and this better be the final season of Gossip Girl a.k.a NY sluts!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  194.  And it never went below 0.6 in the demo, unlike Nikita, HoD and Ringer.
In fact before the hiatus, 90210' ratings were matching SPN's.

  195. Dude, I was giving my opinion, it's not like I have any say if SPN gets cancelled or not, so I utterly fail to see what gets you so butthurt.

I'm not pushing an agenda or making a petition to cancel the show, I'm not threatening to do anything, so I find your response completely off-putting and hostile, for what is just a harmless opinion.

I do not suffer fools well, watch your manners. My innocuous opinions on narrative and show longevity are merely observations, and it just seems like you are trying to pick a fight over nothing, or maybe you think I'm being offensive, and I just can say what up with that and reality check, cause I can't believe you are making a deal of this.

    I'm eyerolling right now.

    ReplyDelete
  196. Well I'm not, I'm a Nikita fan but also a Supernatural one. My two fav shows on the same night, for me its been a great season.

    ReplyDelete
  197. Technically, Supernatural stars will be renegotiating their contracts with Warner Brothers and not the CW.  (GG cast would renegotiate primarily with CBS.)  Since SPN makes them money in syndication, DVD sales, anime, Netflix, and merchandising, I'm sure the WB wants to renew that contract.  The question will be how low they can sell the rights to the CW to air new episodes.
