Emily Prentiss is turning in her badge. Criminal Minds co-star Paget Brewster will leave the hit CBS drama series at the end of this season Via Deadline
I hope the same people that lambasted CBS the first time she left will be calling her names and just as rabid in their anger towards her this time around!
Personally I can't fault her for wanting to do something different after so many years doing the same thing over and over on a procedural just like I could not fault CBS when they got rid of her last year. honestly I thought it was a mistake to bring her back at all.
I can imagine the scenario of her departure: her near-death experience last season has had her thinking about her life. It continues to the point in which she decides it's time for her to do something to fully live her life like she never has before. Maybe her team throws a big farewell party for her.
They reduced her episode number and killed her character. She went to do a pilot, the pilot wasn't picked up. After people complained about her leaving and the spin-off being canceled, they decided to call her back against her will due to her contract still having one year left.
Her contract ends in May, so she will leaver for good now.
I hope they'll give her a good farewell, I want to imagine her having a happy life after all she has gone through. I will miss this character, definitely my favorite, but Paget Brewster is such a talented actress and so deserves to do many other roles that are more appreciated creatively and, well, economically.
I just read she had a year left on her contract. If that's the case, yes she is a person who might want to experience something else, after the contact ends....Personally i stopped watching two seasons ago,it was getting played out.I tune in every once in awhile just to see whats going on...
I was so happy to have all of the team from Season 3 back. =( As much as this sucks I don't think it's a massive deal for me, as long as it doesn't lead to a mass exodus. I think the main reason it was such a blow last season was having her and AJ both leaving and Tom's involvement with Season 7 looking unlikely. Maybe Seaver can come back, I know a lot of people did like her as a replacement for Prentiss and JJ but I didn't mind the character.
Definitely bad news, I love Paget Brewster and I love the character, but I trust the writers to keep the show going strong. It was still good in season 6 after losing two of the central characters, it will still be good after this. Prentiss herself came on mid-ride as a replacement for Elle, so hopefully whatever new character they introduce to fill her spot is just as strong. This is the same crew that created Reid, JJ, Gideon, Hotch, Morgan, Garcia, Elle, Prentiss, Rossi, and Seaver (all entertaining characters IMHO), so I'm sad to see her leave, but excited to see what's next.
This is all CBS's fault!! They treated her like crap last year and now she's leaving for good. She's a very talented actress and I wish her all the best.
Emily Prentiss is my favorite character so Criminal Minds is done to me. I can't watch it without my heart.
Hadn't she signed a two year deal or I am on coke? It does sucks, though, and after the amazingness that Valhalla+Lauren where, I see difficult for the writers to top that.
I'm not surprised by this. She obviously wasn't happy with CBS after the mess with her and AJ Cook and again when she was brought back for another year against her will. I didn't really expect her to stay after I read that her contract was up for renewal. I'm only a casual viewer of CM now but she'll be missed.
Ok while I wish the best for Paget, from the shows standpoint we spend almost a third of the season(to this point) dealing with Emily being alive and the team dealing with the betrayal. And now we get to lose her all over again? No offense but this may be the end of CM once and for all. Not to mention I don't think she's the only actor whose contract is up at the end of the season.
I can't even... I mean, they gave her a great good-bye arc last season, it should end everything, but then they gave her one lame episode to come back and now she will leave again, what the hell. I feel cheated.
I hope MGG stays on board. He has a HUGE fanbase, and losing those viewers would not be good. I was thinking Kirsten Vangsness' contract was up too, but then I remembered that she was recurring in season 1 and didn't become a full time castmember until Season 2, which means her contract is up next year. Shoo. Thank goodness.
She was never called back against her will, despite her whining about it last May. Paget signed her contract agreeing to the potential call back of her own free will, and she knew it was more than likely what was going to happen the moment Nina Tassler said they wanted her back last January and her pilot wasn't picked up in May.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Wow that was quick, wonder what happened?
ReplyDeleteAgain?!?
ReplyDeleteFor real this time?
ReplyDeleteMight as well end the show then.... Hated it when she was gone
ReplyDeleteSensible lass imo
ReplyDeleteAGAIN? Are you kidding me?! Great show, but why is the cast always leaving, coming back, etc.... CMON

She wanted to do something else. Some actors are still people. At least some people likes to do something else for the rest of their prime in acting.
ReplyDelete:O!! I can see why though
ReplyDeleteWhat? Again! What's going on?

ReplyDeleteNooooooooooooooooooooooo. CBS must have really pissed her off when they dragged her back.
ReplyDeleteI'm just sad we won't get Hotch/Prentiss and that the team dynamics will be screwed up again.
I was so happy to have all of the team from Season 3 back. =( As much as this sucks I don't think it's a massive deal for me, as long as it doesn't lead to a mass exodus.

ReplyDeletei wonder whos going to replace her maybe they bring back Rachel Nichols as Ashley Seaver again or someone new
ReplyDeleteAs long as we still have JJ (and they don't bring back Seaver), I can respect Paget's decision to leave.
ReplyDeleteShe was forced back to the show because she still had one more year of contract. AJ was the one who signed a two year deal.

ReplyDeleteMatthew is the other actor whose contract is up at the end of this season.
