Beauty and the Beast (CW) - Kristin Kreuk joins cast

16 Feb 2012

Smallville’s Kristin Kreuk is heading back to the CW.

The Canadian actress best known for playing Lana Lang for close to a decade has been tapped to star in the younger-skewing network’s Beauty and the Beast. The project, loosely based on the 1980s CBS series of the same name, is a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural twist.

  1. Sounds like same old stuff being churned out at the CW with the smae old cactors. My interest in this that was pretty non existent to start with is now completely and utterly non exisitent.

  2. Wow, CW really likes to reuse its cast doesn't it?

I've never known exactly what to make of Kreuk honestly. I don't dislike her, but I rarely find her impressive either.

I still will probably check this one out since it sounds much better than the ABC version.

  3. Round and round and round we go!
The CW is the actor's merry go round! Wheee!

  4. Actually I was thinking the opposite. A reimagining of the original tale (like on ABC) sounds more interesting than remaking a 1980's cult classic.

  7. Aaaaand they lost me. Always hated her. Ain't that pretty, and her acting sucks.

  9. The only thing I've seen her in since Smallville was Chuck so maybe she's had a bit of time to grow but I can't really see her in a detective role. I'm not really that fussed though, this is near the bottom of my list of CW shows I want picked up (beaten only by Carrie Diaries).

  10. We're talking Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman Beauty and Beast, right?
Those two fit the roles perfectly, loved it.
    some things shouldn't be remade.

  12. As one of few men who watched the 1980's beauty and the beast I hope this Is decent.I always get worried when I hear the word reimagened. And If someone mentions Battlestar Galactica I will mention any true fan of original had very little to like about It.That was show for people who never watched original. As for Kristin It's not fair to blame her for those who didn't like Lana on SMallville. She played Lana how she was written.Kristin wasn't responable for what they did with Lana.Casting Kristin In this and the green arrow pilot leads me to believe the New Cw regime want to appeal to the Smallville audence.

  13. I see that name and shudder but to be fair to the actor it might just be the whole knee jerk reaction to Lana.  I hope it does well , but it doesnt sound very interesting.  She never seemed to have much depth as an actress.  well i hope that was just the smallville writing.

  14. Keeping it in the family. Next thing we know, they'll cast Jensen Ackles for a role on "Shelter" and that's how we'll know that SPN isn't coming back next season...

    That's a joke, just fyi.

  16. And thus ends any interest I had in the show.

  17. Same here, and I thought she did good on Chuck.

  18. Kristin Kreuk?  No thanks.  It's hard enough not to fall asleep just saying her name.  Well, to be fair, my interest in this was marginal at best anyway.

  19. Wasn't too interested in this to begin with and this doesn't really work in its favour. I found her annoying on Smallville.

  20. This news makes it a no-go for me.  Lana was by far the worst thing about Smallville.  Maybe that wasn't  all due to the acting (Lana's character was also poorly rated), but I have no interest in finding out if the actress has grown since leaving Smallville.

In other news, perhaps the CW should try hiring new people.  If they are trying to retool their image, hiring the same people from past shows (Katie Cassidy, Kristin Kruek, every other guest star) is not going to do it.

  21. You do like playing with fire don't you.  :-)  I would see them casting Jensen in Cult though,  Shelter would be like revisiting his Dawson's Creek year.  Besides, that would likely be the only way Cult had a chance.
