About
Awake (formerly titled REM[1]) is an upcoming fantasy crime drama television series that will air on NBC starring Jason Isaacs.

Police detective Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs) is newly returned to work after being in a car crash along with his wife Hannah (Laura Allen) and his son Rex (Dylan Minnette). After the crash Britten discovers that every time he goes to sleep he switches between two realities, one in which his wife died in the crash and one in which his son died. In the reality where his wife is alive he is partnered with rookie Efrem Vega (Wilmer Valderrama) and is seeing a confrontational department-recommended psychiatrist Dr Lee (B.D. Wong). His wife has redecorated the house and begins pushing him to move in an apparent effort to move past their son's death. In the reality in which his son is alive, Britten maintains his long time partner Isaiah "Bird" Freeman (Steve Harris) and sees a more nurturing psychologist, Dr. Evans (Cherry Jones). His son, previously a football player, has recently returned to playing tennis, and is coached by Hannah's former doubles partner Tara (Michaela McManus). Britten remains unsure which of the two realities, if either, is real, and begins to worry he is losing his sanity when details begin to cross over between the two.

Awake was created by Lone Star creator Kyle Killen. The series showrunner is 24 and Homeland writer Howard Gordon. Twilight director David Slade executive produced and directed the pilot episode

NBC have already released the Pilot

I watched it a few days ago and loved it. I'd love to know what you think of the show or if you plan to watch it? Sound off in the comments.

To differentiate between the two realities, Britten wears different colored rubber bands in each reality: a red one, for the one in which his wife is alive, and a green one, for the one in which his son is alive. Scenes in the "red" reality have a red hue, while scenes in the "green" reality have a green hue.

Here is a new promo for the show.

  2. It was my favorite of the pilots this season. Loved it. Really hoping this show does well because if it can keep up this level of quality, I know I'll want to continue watching it for quite some time.

  5. It was one of the best pilots of the season for me. Then again so was Lone Star! XD

I was a a bit miffed when Wilmer Valderrama was cast, but even his inclusion did not spoil things for me. I loved the premise, the quality writing, quality actors and the execution!

    Sidenote:
Child or younger actors should take a lesson on acting from Dylan Minnette.
*Yea I'm pointing at you cast of Terra Nova, Secret Circle and Once Upon a Time!*

  6. Loved the pilot as well. Watched it three times. The concept sounded promising and the execution was spot-on. A really smart, though-provoking show, which is rare nowadays.

I really doubt it'll succeed ratings-wise but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

  7. Another show that will need to be watched closely to keep up, and I enjoyed the pilot a lot.  I have a feeling it will have the kind of ratings that Fringe has, seems that a lot of viewers just watch in a fog and don't want to use their mind.  I love shows like this and really hate "reality" TV.

  8. Dylan was very good in Saving Grace also, but I like Colin Ford just as well, he plays young Sam Winchester perfectly.

  9. I LOVED Lone Star. I got to see two episode and then I couldn't find it anymore. I always thought that show would have done better on FX. I loved how in the pilot the cast chemistry seemed congealed already (or better than most casts from the last three seasons of pilots at least). I think the kid does great too.
Terra Nova, well, it's Spielberg, sappy over the top family fare is what he does (they thought this was still the 1950's apparently, when most households had only one TV and 3 stations to watch). I am in my mid 20's and don't ever recall watching a single show with my family (unless you count church services) so I can only imagine the kids nowadays (my 9 year old niece watches True Blood and Dexter and I am pretty sure my sister has no idea). Secret Circle, I think they just wanted hot bodies and figured if it was on after TVD the girlies would stick around afterwards. But what really gets me is that if they wanted a strong female demo, they should have cast 3 male leads. Instead they kill off the cutest one to bring Chris Z. in. As for OUaT, I have just gone with the flow in regards to Henry (they have cut his screen time, WAY down, which I love).

  10. I think it has some similarities to LOST; interesting story, great acting, and cool cinematography. Unlike LOST, I hope these writers have at least an idea of an ending. ;)

  12. It was my favorite too. I was thrilled to watch it, and I was very satisfied since I hate NBC.

  13. Really intriguing pilot episode. I may watch it again when it airs and will watch the other episodes when I can. I watch The Mentalist so I'll only be able to watch Awake when it airs when The Mentalist is a repeat (since I can't find CBS full episodes online grrr). So most likely by default I'll be watching this show on NBC's website most of the time, but I do really like the show.

  14. I've been excited for this for quite a while, but I don't know if the pilot did it for me. There was just something missing, and I expected more interactions with his wife and son. We will see how's the second episode.
