Wow, way to blow it CW. Totally not going to be your next Smallville. Such the wrong way to go.
ReplyDeleteBecause of the actor!?Why?
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of him before..Is he that bad?
Right, because Ringer, Hart of Dixie, and Secret Circle are working out so well. 0_o
ReplyDeleteCall me a snob but I like the idea that the CW has hired someone with "New York stage actor" as his biggest credential. It probably doesn't mean anything but to be honest, they need to start pulling from a different well instead of playing CW show roulette with actors. No wonder they can't get a hit.
ReplyDelete"they need to start pulling from a different well instead of playing CW show roulette with actors."
ReplyDeleteLike Kristin Kreuk booking Beauty and the Beast.
And Katie Cassidy getting the lead female role in this show. I'm beginning to think the casting directors are getting a 3 for 1 kickback with some actors.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget she was cast in The CW's reboot of Melrose Place too.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I think Katie Cassidy has a 3 for 1 deal on the CW. I'm wondering if anyone has a 3 strikes and you're out clause. Perhaps in 5 years we will get the Selection, Cult, and Carrie Diaries kids for the third time as leads instead of the current merry-go-round.
ReplyDeleteI'm giving Katie a pass because this is only her second casting as a lead and her first was as part of an ensemble cast. I don't count SPN since she was just recurring for one season.
ReplyDeleteNo pass from me. She was definitely the star of Melrose Place 2.0 and when you add in her Supernatural and Gossip Girl roles, she's gotten more CW play time than most. Not including 7th Heaven, which was actually the WB years and she didn't have a main part.
ReplyDeleteCassidy may have been "a" lead on Melrose but she wasn't "the" lead. This will be the first time she'll be asked, along with her costar, to carry a series.
ReplyDeleteI'd bet if you asked any casual CW person who the main character in Melrose Place was they would say whoever Katie Cassidy played. She was certainly the main PR attraction in posters, etc. Now people who actually watched it may differ in their answer, but from a strictly promotional stand point, the CW was highlighting Cassidy as the main attraction.
ReplyDeleteWho else would they use to promote that show? She was the only recognizable face to CW viewers on that show who wasn't a middle-aged member of the original Melrose Place. Everyone else was a complete unknown. Options were limited.
ReplyDeleteWell, when it comes to the DCU and a CW collaboration, I just expect more...If done right it could have been a no brainer smash hit and a good Friday night Nikkita replacement. I really don't even know why they are bothering (they don't have the budget for a live action super hero show done right). I never said they were geniuses over at The CW but when it comes comic books, especially DC I have strong opinions. Ringer, I stopped watching (my love for SMG just wasn't enough). I haven't seen 30 seconds of Hart of Dixie (the whole premise was girly girl drivel) and The Secret Circle I watch on the weekends for kicks.
ReplyDeleteWell, going back to Colin, he is a good actor, I think it's nice that the CW is giving a chance to new talent, yes It's quite boring to see the same actors all over again, but news like this means they're at least trying to have a little variety
ReplyDeleteI take issue with "if done right it could have been..."
ReplyDeleteAll there is at this point is a script and 4 cast members. You're speaking in the past tense when nothing has been done at all. If you can write off an entire series before the half of the pilot's cast has been signed then I'd like to subscribe to your psychic friends network.
It's just an opinion and a little observation of how things get done over on The CW, it's an OPINION, MY opinion. So we can agree to disagree. But I am willing to bet what I state is correct.
ReplyDeleteIn all honesty, I believe you're probably right. My issue was with the fact that you seemed to write it off without reason. I can think of at least a few good ones:
ReplyDelete1.) Producer Mark Guggenheim doesn't have the best TV track record, especially with superhero shows. (No ordinary Family)
2.) The actor playing Green Arrow is carrying a series for the first time.
3.) Producer Greg Berlanti also has a mixed track record on TV. He has hits like Brothers and Sisters and Everwood but also misses like No Ordinary Family, Eli Stone (also with Guggenheim), and Dirty Sexy Money.
4.) People who liked Hartley in Smallville may actively shun this series.
5.) The CW may be reluctant to pick this up to series since superhero TV shows have a very unsuccessful history on TV as of late.
When I don't like something that seems new (especially if it is comic book related, and even more so if it is DC related), it's because I probably heard about it at least 18 months ago from some insider and know who they are kicking around for the important parts and just can't believe they actually thought it was a good idea (they usually aren't). My last heartbreak came from Wonder Woman but I was glad they decided not to go through with it after all. I just can't go getting into the details sometimes out respect of something that was told in semi-confidence. But I give almost anything a fighting chance (see The Secret Circle, The River, The Event, Flash Forward, V, Terra Nova, I could go on but I won't). I just find it strange that with them doing a continuation of Smallville, that they wouldn't use Hartley and Ali Mack. That would have put their ratings over the top from the jumpstart (I hear Justin is a dream to work with, so I am just confused). I am really not a pompous jackass, really.
ReplyDeleteHa! Never claimed you were. This is just normal conversation to me.
ReplyDeleteSide note: I saw the WW pilot and NBC was right to pass on it.
I know right? David E. Kelly, he should stick to the Ally McBeal fare
