Allison Janney and Tony Shalhoub have been cast in the Greg Daniels-helmed NBC comedy pilot, which centers on a quirky family that — you guessed it — dines together each Friday evening.
The Emmy-winning duo (her for West Wing, him for Monk) will play Barbara and Gene, the parental units of the family.

I'm having Gilmore Girls flashbacks!
ReplyDeleteBut this does sound interesting.
The original UK version just started and is so good--did they really need to do a US remake already?!
ReplyDeleteHad no idea they were making a US version of this (don't know why since the UK version is hilarious on its own.)
ReplyDeleteI can't for this is start,i love Tony in everything he has done!
ReplyDeleteSee now those are two good enough reasons for me to watch... ;D
ReplyDeleteI just looked up the original Friday Night Dinner cast, and it turns out Tamsin Greig is the lead actress. She is also the lead actress on Showtime's Episodes, a show where she plays a british writer which gets to witness her hit british comedy getting awfully remaked by an american network. Oh, the irony.
ReplyDeleteI don't like Shalhoub at all but I don't dislike Allison Janney, plus Greg Daniels being attached to the project is convincing, but I prey this never goes on to be on the air. In fact, I don't want any new NBC comedy next fall, I don't care how good their pilot seems. NBC only needs 4 comedies for its Thursday lineup, and I say they already have them : Community, Parks and Recreation, The Office and 30 Rock, baby.
Huge fan of Janney, so I'll watch anything with her.
