Alcatraz - Season 1 - Sarah Jones Interview
6 Feb 2012
Cancelled ShowsAs Det. Rebecca Madsen on Fox's Alcatraz, Sarah Jones tracks down the most notorious criminals from the past while uncovering her own family's secrets. The 28-year-old Florida native fills us in on her badass role and what mysteries lie ahead.
TV Guide Magazine: What's the key to your character?
Jones: I was intrigued by Rebecca's youth, the fact that she is a bit of a prodigy in her line of work, and how she has no reservations about challenging someone like Hauser [Sam Neill]. At the same time, she has a vulnerability that comes out through her partnership with Doc [Jorge Garcia] and relationship with Ray [Robert Forster].

I think one of my favorite parts of the series so far is the main character of the series is Alcatraz Prison. We learn about it and its mysteries more every episode as we learn about each specific resident or inmate on the island.
ReplyDeleteI love that there are 302 of these smaller stories that add to the overarching story of Alcatraz itself. It almost guarantees there will not be ongoing love-triangles or too much personal soap operatic drama for the main 3 members of Team Alcatraz! They are our vehicles for learning about the prison and the disappearance of the prisoners.
It is incredibly refreshing to have a series with a true overarching story and not just characters that basically can be placed in any story, anywhere, on any series. Rebecca, Doc and Hauser could not be part of any other series since Alcatraz is integral to who each of them are, whether or not they knew that fact before this adventure began!
So excited for tonight's episode!
ReplyDeleteI like this show but I want to like it more than I do because I'm having trouble with some basic logical elements. I know we're supposed to suspend our disbelief about time travel or what not but that's not what I'm talking about. There's a simple rule in television (in fact in all broadcast media) that nothing happens by accident. Everything you see has been planned. Its been written, timed and edited. What we see is what we are meant to see. The same logic is therefore true in the reverse. We cannot assume something has happened unless we have been shown it or told about it. I'm going on at length because in this show most of the action is happening in a bubble. I find it hard to believe that a man can kill several people with a sniper rifle all over the city and not have the FBI, Homeland security and several other organizations move in to investigate. Or have a child abducted and not have a nationwide manhunt. But Hauser and Madsen seem to be moving about these investigations with relative ease in terms of keeping thing under wraps. Its just not believable and I'm supposed to accept it. I've said it before; I don't like the lack of wonder or confusion on the part of the inmates that show up every week. They don't seem interested or affected by the fact that they have been displaced by 50 years and they seem to adjust too quickly. Its not believable. Like I said I like the show but it could be so much better.
ReplyDeleteI do love her partnership eventual friendship (or more) with Doc
ReplyDelete"It almost guarantees there will not be ongoing love-triangles or too
ReplyDeletemuch personal soap operatic drama for the main 3 members of Team
Alcatraz!"
Are you kidding? The heat between Diego and Emerson almost melts my TV screen. Soto & Hauser 4eva! :P
I kind of wonder though if Cabrera's role has been changed because Rebecca might eventually come to like Jack Sylvane....he just seems like a character that should become a stronger reoccuring...I know I would like that. I think there's chemistry there...Of course Diego might pine for Rebecca too...who knows! Too early to tell what's going happen! --But I do think we need to get under everyone's skin a little more, especially Rebecca's.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited to see more background story for every character on the show. I really think that characters are the main reason why the shows I watch are so great, so hopefully Alcatraz will work on that, cause that seems to be the one thing they're missing so far.
