The Walking Dead - Sam Witwer on Cancelled Web Series

Jan 7, 2012

When Frank Darabont stepped down last July as the showrunner of The Walking Dead, it raised several eyebrows, especially after such a successful first season. The series creator's departure also angered an actor we hadn't previously known was even in The Walking Dead, Being Human's Sam Witwer. The actor revealed his brief role in The Walking Dead pilot, and how plans for a prequel won't be happening now that Frank Darabont isn't running the show.

  1. Damn it, sounds like an excellent idea, would have liked to see that!

  2. Shame, that would have been awesome.
He's a bit of an idiot though.

  3. i don't even care.... Frank Darabont's period in The Walking Dead was really really slow and boring for the most of the time... i'm happy they fired him....

  4. Is that what it was about? Darabont was costing them too much money? His show is one of the biggest on TV right now and probably bringing millions to AMC. Stupid move.

  5. That prequel storyline sounded like a fantastic idea, and now after this exposition, confirms my diappointment in how that whole situation was handled by AMC.

  8. It was never meant to be a Web Series. The idea was that this would've been the first episode of the second season and Darabont's idea was to make one alternative or standalone episode for every season. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/52526

  9. This is dangerous territory, the "what if" realm that creates legends and gods.
For me, the actual facts are:
1- Frank Darabont created a great show; its 1st season was one of the best things we had in the 2010/2011 winter.
2- Season two had its first episodes with Darabont still in charge... and they were not as good as the previous season.
3- Every idea for a prequel, sequel or even small detours around characters that were previously present as corpses or other minor roles could be recovered and worked as web series, like the one released about the bike half-woman. I consider this a fact because the only reason for not doing it is management (more precisely, corporate dumbness).

As for the guy in this interview, I cannot consider him a sound person; I'm sure he wouldn't like to hear another fellow actor called off from Being Human having some public thoughts like he did. But this is not facts, just my opinion.

  10. If you haven't read this yet you should definitely check it out ... Would have been awesome to see as one of my favorite things about TWD was the human element.  It also would have been a great set up for Herschel's story in that all of these walkers had a life and a story before they became more than just a body count for Rick et al.  Thanks for posting link.

  11. I love Sam but I love him on Being Human (US) more

  12. Meh.  No big deal to me.  I often plan on or intend to check out a web series when I find one that seems interesting but I rarely ever actually follow through on it.

  13. Yeah. While I have a similar opinion about how AMC is dealing with it's shows recently, he comes off a bit blagh about it. It feels to me like Darabont would be like "You're great Sam, but you can't just go a talk about my stuff like that..."
