There's another Gilbert coming to Mystic Falls.

Newcomer Lindsey R. Garrett has been cast on The Vampire Diaries as Samantha Gilbert, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

Samantha, in her 20s, is described as a bit of a gossip, but don't expect her to cross paths with Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) anytime soon. She'll appear only during flashbacks in the episode titled "1912," airing at the end of February, as one of the town's founding family members who interacts with both Salvatore brothers.

    What is wrong with this family?!?
    Katerina, Isobel, Elena (and who knows how many other women of the Petrova bloodline were dating the brothers), half of the Gilbert line seems to be hunters. And now this Samantha?
    Poor Elena. What a family tree.

    Well, I'd say pretty much all of the founding families have a history of having hunters in the family tree =) which seems logical.


    But yah, it is kinda weird that many of her ancestors seemed to have dated either Stefan or Damon (or both). Weird, but also funny, actually. XD

    So we'll see her in flashbacks from 1912 (Titanic, anyone?). And she won't cross paths with Elena anytime soon. Does this mean she's a vampire now? Or tricked death in any other way?

    Because it doesn't sound like we'll ONLY see her in the flashbacks.

    Another Guilbert? I wonder how she's related to Elena her great (x I don't how many) aunt? Or is she a relative? Hm... Is she a vampire or something? It's kind of funny how every Guilbert (or person related to Elena) is different or has something about them. Plus I agree with the people below me they also have dated Damon or Stefan or even both. So what about this Samantha?
