Supernatural - Episode 7.16 - Title Change

Jan 7, 2012

It seems that Episode 7.16 of Supernatural is now called "Out With The Old". It was previously known as "Another Man's Treasure"

78 comments:

  1. Are they getting rid of Sammy and replacing him with Frank?

    ReplyDelete
  2. You're joking, right?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Out with Sam and in with ? Well Misha is back in episode 17 and 12, 13 and 15 are said to be Dean centric. 17 could be Sam's final Swan Song?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Why is everyone convinced Sam is leaving the show? Did I miss something?

    ReplyDelete
  5. All you are missing is a lot of fans who don't like Sam and who think that Castiel is the greatest thing since sliced bread.  They desperately want Castiel to replace Sam as Dean's brother and to be forgiven by just saying "sorry about that".  I have seen nothing to indicate Sam is leaving.  Guy Bee was asked about the possibility and he tweeted that he hadn't heard anything.  Chalk it up to people who want a change in the show that there has been no hint will actually happen.

If by some chance I am wrong, then I will have to decide if the fact that I fell in love with a show about two brothers has ditched the concept and react accordingly.

  6. I refuse to read anything into this - I'm going to say "cool, thanks" and move on

    ReplyDelete
  7. Is there anything official about this supposed change, or is it just bitter fangirls whining about Sam/Dean screen time?
Anyway, thanks for the heads-up on the episode title change.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yeah, I just think someone dropped an opinion, which turned into a rumor, and apparently now is a solid, absolute truth.  I think it just got blown wayyyy out of proportion.

That being said, I DO love Castiel (well, before he got all power-hungry and shady), but never as a replacement for Sam.  I think having Misha back in some capacity would be an asset, just because I think he has a lot of range, but as I said.. NEVER as a replacement brother or something.. and certainly not forever, if they're trying to get back to what made the show great in the first place.

  9. I think right now there is just a lot of hurt fans who are disappointed with the lack of Sam characterization. Sam's hell story was brushed under a rug and there looks like there is no change for that. Sam isn't communicating with anyone and Dean is the only one who is connecting to any of the guest stars. It's just upset.

But given the spoilers, Dean is getting to go back in time (12), Dean gets mixed up with a weird one night stand (13), and I'm not sure about episode 15 (but rumors were Jared missed a few days of filming).  So, it's a lot of Dean focus right now, which makes a lot of people think Jared is leaving the show or backing off. Jared's personal life is changing and it's not a big stretch. A lot of actors and actresses leave shows to spend more time with their family. You add this with Sam not having a story or any type of emotional plot during this time period (because it would make sense for Sam's story to be happening during these months and not during the month of the due date), people start wondering if Sam is leaving the show.

There is no proof or official evidence to say Jared or Sam is leaving the show. But I think people are just trying to put together why the writers would take a storyline, set it up, and then just ditch for months and then not show any type of emotions from the characters about it. It made sense for Sam's storyline to happen in the first half of the season especially now with Jared. But that didn't happen, so now, people are assuming it was completely dropped because what the point of doing something with a character who is leaving? Again, it's just upset.

Still, we were never promised that Sam's story would be told in the second half or not to my knowledge. (I think we were told that Sam's hallucinations would have consequences and if the actor who plays Lucifer could come back, we might see more of Sam's hell. But so far there have been no consequences or struggles for Sam dealing with Hell. And spoilers and random thoughts in interviews are no always what make it to screen.)

I don't think that everyone is convinced that Sam is leaving the show, but I do think people are worried because Jared's role might have to be reduced and the only way it could be reduced anymore is for Sam not to be in the episodes or only a few minutes. That's the concern and cause for the rumors.

  10. I'm so tired of the Samgirls that think Sera is royally screwing up the character and thinking he's leaving the show.

Adios, SpoilerTV.  I'll return when you start getting rid of those pointless comments.

    ReplyDelete
  11. not leaving just having to step back for a while while due to his impeding fatherhood, it makes sense given the way the season has been heading and the fact that Gen is due in March while filming of the rest of the season will still be going on. It just seems logical, has nothing to do with fans wanting him gone or whining about screen time.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I agree that this is likely just some Sam haters starting rumors. If the show was trying to get rid of him, instead of sweeping his story aside, they would be pushing it forward, moving it toward some kind of resolution. In Sam's case they would have definitively dealt with his hallucinations and maybe introduced a girlfriend that he might choose to leave the hunting life for.

    ReplyDelete
  13. yes, of course, it was pure sacarsm, to the Sammy situation (or lack their of)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Supernatural always has such interesting episode titles. Maybe "Out With The Old" means the boys will finally stop trying to hide things from each other. Or maybe it's about coming at the leviathans with something they'll never see coming - after all - they've proved they know exactly how the boys think through Cas' memories. Or maybe they decide to ditch the flannel shirts. Or maybe SAM GETS A HAIRCUT????????

    ReplyDelete
  15. It could refer to so many things.
It would be nice if it was out with the depression and in with some good times, at least for an episode. Oh, for an episode like Tall Tales where they get to laugh a little:-)

    I agree about Sam's hair.
I liked it when it was shorter as it tended to curl and it looked more natural and I must be honest and say that the over-emphasised side-burns do nothing for me.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I like the other one better but this one does make you wonder what the old is.  In all honesty, there is not much old still left on Supernatural.  Well, except the Impala and she's already been more out than in this season.  Can't be her.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Out with The Guests. The writers are going to go on a massive killing spree in this episode. No one will live. They'll kill frank, Jodie, Becky (Thankfully) everyone on the list of limited allies that recur. It'll be fun!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh I like Sam's hair longer - I'd like it to look like Jared's hair though. Sam's is always so messy.
I was just being facetious. Who knows what the title refers to? NO ONE that's who. I much prefer to wait and see than speculate. It gives me a headache. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. All these theories are interesting but I have one question. Where are the Leviathans and Crowley?

    ReplyDelete
  20. The WRITERS KILLED THEM AAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

But seriously, I think it's time for a surprise appearance by Crowley...and we definitely need more Leviathans, the strongest episodes this season have been centred around them. With exceptions, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  21. best and most plausible theory so far me thinks

    ReplyDelete
  22. True.
No point in speculating, all will be revealed when the episode airs, and it's never what one thinks, in any case.
As for Sam, I liked his hair better in seasons 4 and 5 but that's just me :-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I was just being narky, it wasn't a suggestion. If Jared goes I go and though I dont like the show very much any more I am still very much invested in what happens to the Winchesters esp Sam, I'm not ready for him to be done yet.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm pretty sure I would pay someone to sneak attack Jared and tame that hair.. I'll bet Misha would even do it for free.. but really.. it HAS to go.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'd love some more Crowley.. that snarky little bastard always keeps things interesting  :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. makes a nice change from the whiny Dean girls that think Sera hates Dean, doesnt know how to write him and that Jensen should leave the show.

    ReplyDelete
  27.  It's just that we're getting bits and pieces of everything but very little is leaking out about the big bads of the season.
I hope it's because they are preparing a super surprise or plot twist.
Mmmmmm! Maybe I shouldn't hope too hard for you never know what they might come out with. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  28.  Yes, he really peps up the goings-on

    ReplyDelete
  29. It hit its peak mid-season 4. I've studied this.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Intersting study. Would you like to share with the class?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Let's just say I was between jobs. Had some extra time on my hands. :p

    ReplyDelete
  32.  Well, I must say you used it well! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't know about the title, but I am expecting Cas to appear in it,probably close or at the end..Kind of like Crowley in Mommy Dearest!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I sound like a creepy stalker, don't I? Seriously, I had some down time and spent some of that watching old SPN eps.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hmm... this is interesting... the common thread between the titles seems to me to be trash/things people throw out etc.... Perhaps we're seeing the return of the amulet...

(Or the boy's could be seeking the knowledge of the All-Knowing, All-Seeing Trash Heap!!)

    ReplyDelete
  36. It could be out with Dick, and in with LeviaCas...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Those whiny Dean girls were run off the board when they were complaining last season about Dean's storyline.  Doesn't seem to be the case when Sam fans complain.  Interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  38. They're gearing everybody up for the series finale where Dean is faced with living out his days without Sam around.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm pretty sure (95% to be exact, that SPN has ONE season left, this isn't the final season). I am almost proof positive that they won't end the series with Sammy being dead (Sera will need another job after the shows end and I am pretty sure only The CW would be willing to hire her) so they won't burn that bridge completely down. I don't know why they stopped caring about Sammy development ( I think I am in the minority when I say I actually loved soulless Robo Sam, I was sad to see him get back his soul and felt cheated at how little they really showed in his head when his wall broke). I am Team Winchester (with just the slightest leaning towards being a Sammy girl) but facts are facts, they are ignoring Sammy's development and slaughtering both Dean and Sam with this third rate writing. I have been reading better fan fiction as of late (well the last 2.5 seasons) that I wish was cannon instead of the reality of what I am seeing on my TV. Please Eric K. come back and write & direct a few episodes to get us back to where we need to be. A creator has more love for the characters he creates than someone who just steps in when an opportunity presents itself. I wonder what Eric K. is thinking about this show right now. It can't be good.

    ReplyDelete
  40. They said again last night that they've never seen anybody get out of the life.  They both know it won't end well. (Most likely after next season)  You could kill them both and have them (hopefully) in heaven. You could have them killed and sent to hell again. (Don't know how well that would go over) Dean could die and Sam could live. Sam would handle it better than Dean. Or Sam dies and Dean tries to live on miserably without Sam.

Which would do the series and characters the most justice?

    Just askin'!

    ReplyDelete
  41. look like its  ''girl next door'' kind-of-debate starting all over again. We have 4 words and everyone just KNOWS exactly what will happen in this episode and fight over it

    ReplyDelete
  42. Jared and Jensen have been doing more work outside of SPN as was Jim Beaver. Jim had a small recurring role in Breaking Bad (Only a couple episodes) and is in Justified on FX. Bigger networks usually mean more exposure. They'll get to know more people and it'll snowball.

Look at The Shield/Sons of Anarchy.  Kurt Sutter wrote for The Shield and began to bring actors from that show over to Sons.  It is the logical/natural progression for actors. A lot hinges on how long they are under contract and whether that includes made for TV movies once the show is over.

Just thinkng out loud here in Indiana.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The way I see it, is they could pull a Charmed type move and "vanquish" all of the demons and their reward would be to have a clean slate and do whatever they wanted. Sam would go back to law school and become a lawyer and save people that way. Dean could re-connect with Lisa and Ben and maybe even have his own offspring with her (and name it Johnathan Winchester if it is a boy or Bobbi Winchester if it is a girl). They die of old age and meet in a shared heaven with their family all around (their mother, John, Jo, Ellen, and of course Bobby and because I am in a generous mood, Adam). After all of the suffering and pain they have been through, they deserve a happy ending. They deserve to be together. Or  maybe their new idea of heaven is being together and driving in the Impala listening to classic forever and ever drinking beer. All I know is that I want them to be happy in the end. I don't want either one of them to die. I honestly don't know what they could do for a grand finale send off that would both do the series justice, have be a logical, reasonable and sensible thing and make the fandom happy. You have me there.
Maybe Bobby's death and helping that family from the last episode is going to push Dean/the brothers toward finding a permanent solution to the demons/monsters problem, so that no one will have ever have to be a hunter and die a senseless and tragic death. Just a thought.

  44. the old ones.... aka leviathans

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sammy getting a hair cut, that's rich!!! It's like he's becoming Dan and Nate from Gossip Girl at the same time (no story, just a plot device (Nate) and no hair cut (Dan).

  46. "
There is no proof or official evidence to say Jared or Sam is leaving the show. But so far there have been no consequences or struggles for Sam dealing with Hell. And spoilers and random thoughts in interviews are no always what make it to screen.) "

You're correct, your entire post is correct. I only recall SG (or RS) saying in an interview months ago that ",,, a solution to Sam's problem (or something to effect ) would be found (very likely pressing his wounded hand) but this solution would lead to more problems"

So far, I have seen no signs of these "problems" and Sam is to all purposes seemingly stable for now. A poster on supernatural.tv had her questioned answered by Robert Singer relayed from CW PR Rep Suzanne Gomez and said "yes, he still has his hell memories and ***may be forced*** to face his dark side again". But the key statements to me are "may be forced" as both SG and RS (as well as EK before them) have created tentative plotline plans that were never carried forward.

The title change could be meaningless, in so far as "Another Man's Treasure" and "Out with Old" kind of have similar meanings. What can't be disputed in there are a lot of unhappy Sam (and some BiBro) fans who feel the writers abruptly seemed to dump a meaty Sam storyline after building it up in S6 to cause a huge effect on Sam's psyche.

  47. if they do that they lost I will never see this show again I hate this I really really am starting to hate this show for that jared better then that a better actor then anyone on that show and I am getting pretty sick of it if they dont something now I done they lost a fan in me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I've never seen Gossip Girl so I wouldn't know.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think you hit the point right on the head. A lot of fans would like to see a happy ending.

But can it ever end that way?

    Peace or Freedom.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Dean girls can complain what they cant do is start postcard campaigns or threating not to watch because they though the show was going to deal with Sams wall breaking. I  have my issues I  havent hidden that . There is a difference complaing because Dean didnt have the mytharc another when the character is neglected to the degree Sam has been. I  dont believe this show is about two brothers and hasnt been since season 4.

Has for Jared he is not leaving why should he it his show has much has Jensens the baby will not interere with his filming nor is Misha moving in. People need to stop and think before saying something.

    ReplyDelete
  51. "Another Man's Treasure" gave me some hints about what it could be about.  "Out with the Old" not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  52. 'Out With The Old' Dean? In with the new Dean whose finally got his shit together? The end of Dean's 13 episode arc finishing just in time for Cas's return in 17?

Coz if the writers say Dean's arc started in 4 proper then it technically will end in 16, which fits with what we know about 12, 13 and 15 being Dean centric?

    Just a theory

    ReplyDelete
  53. The difference is that they were showing up whenever there was a Sam spoiler just to bash Sam.  There weren't posting on Dean threads about Dean. They just wanted to bash Sam. That behavior just instigates a fight. The site mods start deleting comments when they see people trying to start fights.

    ReplyDelete
  54. he has been sorely underused this season

    ReplyDelete
  55. they're more like big bores than big bads

    ReplyDelete
  56. hope Jody survives next week, I like her and cant wait to see her and Sam possibly working together. It could be the start of a beautiful friendship.

    ReplyDelete
  57. OMG it's Supernatural and not one of the other bimbo shows for the brain dead!

I do hope Sera has the piece of mind not to end Supernatural with a cappy, unrealistic happy ending to please the little girls.
Butch & Sundance that's the fitting end for an underapriciated show and not the regular crap you get on every show these days.

    ReplyDelete
  58. maybe Sam gets a haircut and it cures his hellucinations?

Hair gone, Lucifer gone its a miracle

    ReplyDelete
  59. really I see plenty of whiny Dean girls on here now, so they cant all have been run  off

    ReplyDelete
  60. I dont think Sam will ever go back to school, I dont think he wants that normal life anymore and hasnt for a while. I think he's done with that and done with relationships/romance for good.He has long since accepted who he is-a hunter and I dont think that will ever change.

My ideal ending would be Sam dying the hero he is and ending up in heaven with Jess.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Maybe Cas is coming back to do what Sam did about Lucifer. Cas brought them here and he needs to get rid of the Levis or at least help in a big way.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Am I the only one that thinks Jared taking time off for the birth of his baby is a bad thing.  It would not upset me in the least, and you child is only a baby once. If this is the case then good for Jared.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I have to agree with you here, but I'm hoping they're going with the old saying "It's the calm before the storm." :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. A bit like Samson in the Bible, maybe.
They cut his hair and he lost his strength, so with Sam it might be that if they trim his hair he might lose his hellucinations.

Only joking! Poor Sammy, he has too much on his plate as it is!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Whiny Dean fans, whiny Sam fans, it's all a bit too much.  Every spoiler is met with complaints from both sides (Sam fans more so at the moment) about how their favorite brother is being ignored or being mistreated.

I can understand why some people might want to take a break from this board, or this fandom in general.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Interesting.  Does make one wonder what it's going to be about.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Egad.  Only Supernatural could generate this many comments from a simple title change.

    ReplyDelete
  68. That's why I'm hoping for Dean left on his own to live. I doubt he could handle life without Sammy.  Or Bobby. Or everybody else.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I would rather he concentrate on bonding with his son than on the show

    ReplyDelete
  70. me too I think that as well and now he has all summer to do that to with the cons that are coming up and julys comic con its hard to do all that.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Wouldn't that be nice!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Just have to say, I don't necessarily think Sam would handle Dean's death better than the other way around... The two times Sam's died for any length of time longer than a few minutes, the first time Dean lasted two days before breaking, but the second time he went on with Lisa and Ben, albeit miserably. The two times Dean has died, in MS for six months and the four months after he went to hell, both times Sam became an emotionless robot bent only on revenge. That's who he becomes without Dean. But I also think that if Sam died if Dean didn't make a promise and/or didn't have anywhere to go to like he had Lisa and Ben to go to (who would he go to if it happened right now in canon? Everyone they know is dead!) he'd snap and do something insane to bring Sam back, or kill himself or something. D: Okay, they need each other. I don't want the show to end, but better for it to end when it's still on a (mostly) high note than to drag on forever and ever. I say either both boys die (*sob*) or they both live, you can't have one without the other. They need each other to function.
