I’ve learned that Rhona Mitra is finalizing a deal to land the new female lead on Cinemax’s Strike Back in the action drama’s upcoming 10-episode second season. She will play the beautiful, cunning and ultimately ruthless Capt. Rachel Dalton of the British military who is offered the position of head of Section 20 after a long stint working in North Africa. Mitra’s character is expected to fill the void left by the demise of Amanda Mealing’s Col. Eleanor Grant in the first season finale of Strike Back. The series, whose second season is slated to begin filming soon in South Africa, is produced by Cinemax/HBO, Left Bank and Sky, which airs the series in the U.K. Strike Back stars Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester. Season 1 told the story of a charismatic former U.S. Special Forces operative (Stapleton) who joins with a stealth British military unit when a resourceful international terrorist group plots a major attack. British-born Mitra, whose series credits include The Practice, Boston Legal and Nip/Tuck, is repped by Gersh, Untitled and UK’s Ken McReddie.

I put "Season 2" in quotes since this is season two on Starz, but the third season of the series since the original season aired in 2010 on Sky 1 in the UK before being re-booted in 2011 as a co-production with Starz.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to miss the old female lead - she was awesome - shame she had to kick it.
ReplyDeleteOkay, thank you! I was wondering what the heck was going on because I watched the original one in 2010 and then saw the 2011 one. And thought that was season 2.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand it either!
ReplyDeleteThe program was created or aired on Sky and then sky partnered with Cinemax with a new series based on the first season, but with basically all new characters.
I guess some US writers only look at the US networks and ignore the UK original season? That's just so nonsensical!
Awesome casting.
ReplyDeleteI think its because technically season 1 is "Chris Ryan's Strike Back" based on the book while the Cinemax series is simply "Strike Back".
ReplyDeleteYeah I guess you're right.
ReplyDeleteIt just seems like they should have renamed it though if they are not going to consider the original as Series 1. By rename I mean more than eliminating the "Chris Ryan" part in the title. XD
awesome choice! she's perfect for the roll. i can't wait for 3rd season to air!
ReplyDeleteShe was good on Boston Legal, but i don't get Starz. (
ReplyDeletethanks for the heads up
