I loved absolutely everything about this episode! Sam's "Dick" joke had me laughing for about half an hour. Jody using her Mom voice was adorable. Will forever be bitter Bobby/Jody didn't get to happen.
I hope this episode will remind people that casting aspersions based on the promos never works for Supernatural. From what I can tell, this episode had everything that people were complaining would be missing. A great episode from a talented cast.
Loved it! Much better than last week's, in my opinion. There were so many minutes that had me laughing out loud, although there were also sad moments like when Sam and Jody were reminiscing about Bobby. An amazing episode.
I was so focused on Ness (Nick Lea), that I barely even noticed Dean. Nick's been one of my favorite actors for almost 14 years now. ....Man, I think I teared up a little writing that.. 14 years.
One of the best episodes this season. Sam working in the present was great, and Dean stuck in the past was entertaining, but Elliot Ness stole the show.
Oh and fyi? It's 'Time After Time' not 'Time After Time After Time'. I took note of the opening credits after seeing it called both in different places.
Man what a refreshing change from last week. I smiled and giggled through the entire episode. Well almost all, there were a few gut wrenching and heart breaking scenes too. But it was ALL classic Supernatural. I felt like I was watching the Brothers again. Dean had me giggling from start to finish. And Sam had some really good snarky comments aimed just for Dean.
I really, really liked Sheriff Mills too. She fit in perfect and it didn't feel awkward, it didn't feel like she was a Bobby replacement. It felt right and comfortable.
There were so many GREAT lines I don't think I can remember them all. But I have to say, for the first time in a long time it felt like Dean was back. He was just classic Dean. Now please, please, please leave him that way!
Was it perfect? No but it was damn close. So close I gave it a 10 anyway. :)
Ok, to quote Dean...sweet mother of awesome!! Man, that was good! For the first time in a long time I actually found myself giggling through an episode. Actual laughs, what a concept! Some great lines..."More cartoon smut or are you just into Dick now?" "What's he, some kind of farmer clown?" "Awesome!" "Are you some kind of religious nut?" Such a refreshing feeling to have good writing to revel in for a change! And that was just the tip of the iceberg. We actually had glimpses of both brothers the way we recognize them. Dean is adorable when he's all fan boy, dweeby...and don't even get me started on him in that suit...WOOF! And Sam actually got to do something other than stand around looking mopey! We even got a glimpse of the puppy dog eyes...be still my heart! Loved the little moment with Sheriff Mills and the bottle of booze...a sweet little tribute to Bobby...sigh. The case was really good too...very clever and I loved the concept of Elliot Ness as a hunter...too cool! One can only hope that Dean FINALLY listened to the message Ness was giving him. He's at least the 3rd or 4th person, living AND dead, to have done so. How many times do you have to hear it? All in all, this was just a GREAT episode...fun from start to finish. Still a ways to go to see how the season plays out as a whole but THANK YOU for this little treat, Sera!
To rate this episode completely honestly, I would need a "Good" option that falls between "OK" and "Great". However, it was close enough to "Great" that I don't mind giving it that rating even though I don't think it quite hit that mark.
Very funny episode. Some of the best quotes of the year so far. Jensen kind of reminded me of a combination of Eames and Arthur (Inception) during the interrogation scene.
Sam: 'You gonna watch some more Anime or are you strictly into dick now'
O_O Sammy says the darnest things lol
I had like a suit-gasm because God Dean's hot and Jensen looks very sexy. It's amazing how Dean can still lose at rock paper scissors and then whirls around and pulls a smug computer trick that Sam doesn't know how to do. :D
Thought it was a great episode. Loved it and I thought Elliot Ness was great as well. I liked the end as Chronos was dying he mentioned a little about the future and how the Leviathans were everywhere. Interesting. I love how even when it is a stand alone episode they always seem to work something about the overall season story arc into the episode. SN has always been great for that. Even if there isn't big movement, they do have 23 episodes to work with this season, they never forget the overall season arc.
Ehhh i didn't think it was anything special. I kind of prefer both brothers together than a guest star taking the front seat. Can this please be the last time episode?
Just double checked the writing credits because I missed it at the top of the show....Robbie Thompson and Eric Kripke. No wonder it felt so good...I knew Kripke needed to come back and kick some ass! THANK YOU...we're not worthy, we're not worthy! :D
I loved it! Even though the brothers were separated, there was alot of good brotherly moments. The back and forth banter between them, Sam franticly trying to get Dean back, and Dean allowed to be Dean in all his fanboyishness. Their chemistry felt on point, even if they weren't in the same room
Robbie Thompson needs to stay as writer because he gets their characters, in the old style. None of the others do anymore, or not consistently, even the vets.
hey did anyone happen to hear what elliot ness said at the end when he throws the weapon to dean as he leaves? the last line when they teleport away? great episode! i love time travel episodes on this show and time travel episodes have always worked best with dean. sam has done 2 going back in time to stop anna in season 5 and meeting samuel colt in season 6. the samuel colt one was sam's big time travel moment but dean has done it ALOT and its good. the only thing they havent done much is alternate realities. great episode and a great ending with the dieing by the leviathans! as much as i love the show i really do i really think (because cw decides next month on most renewals) that if they renewe supernatural with a season 8 they should make it the final season like smallville did so they could end it properly. it can Reach over 150 episodes that way, and it can end on an incredible note. Maybe if were lucky they can do a movie to finish the story to like sg-1 did with ark of truth. I love supernatural and would love for it to continue but its story isn’t like stargate sg-1 and smallville exactly and I think that it can do something incredible if they are prepared for a final season. I just don’t want the series to end on a stargate atlantis type of note where the leviathans are all still alive.
agreed on classic dean i bet jensen really took a load off this episode it was great. for this entire season so far i've been more fond of sam and his singular story then with dean and his (which is wierd considering i've always had a softer spot for dean in the series) but this episode was great for him and a lot of fans. i hope the ratings rise.
That was a good episode!! I guess I worried for nothing!! Yay!! I love it when things work out like that. That moment between Sam and Jody was wonderful and so beautiful. I started crying a little because it really felt like Bobby and Rufus were gone. Ever since people have started dying like Red-shirts on this show, I don't process it like I used to or on other shows. But that scene just captured it perfectly. Awesome work from Jared and Kim Rhodes!!
I loved that she pulled the mom card on Sam. That is probably one of the first time someone has ever done that for Sam. I would love to see an episode with more of them together. They work so well together!! I don't know, but they kind of remind me of X-Files for some weird reason! I don't know, but for me they were the best part of the episode!
The 1940s was alright. I was a little upset, because I thought Eliot Ness left the Chicago police force like in 1942. (And according to Wikipedia he did, so it's a little hard to believe that the writers didn't at least Wiki that, but I guess they really wanted a 1940s episode, but then if all the movies they were quoting where based in the 1930s, then why not set the episode then. Besides wouldn't it have been funnier to watch Dean be in Era where Prohibition exist? It's just a shame, because in the earlier seasons they didn't make those kind of mistakes.) That kind of annoyed me bit and then Dean multiple pop-culture references and the slow math subtraction didn't quite make me laugh.
I loved seeing Logan again!! (I guess it's Jason Dohring really! I always love watching him on screen especially since Netflix took Veronica Mars off an instant watch.) He was wonderful and his ending scene was chilling! I loved that the show when to the end for once!!
Nick Lea was so good!! There were moments he completely overshadowed Jensen!! I don't think that has ever happen to me on this show. He completely just stole the past moments!! (I kind of wish we had seen just more of him!!) But watching Jensen kept doing the batman voice, it just ruined Dean for me. I couldn't take him seriously. I think watching Nick Lea just flow into his character with so much ease, I couldn't help but notice the growling from Dean this week. Normally, I don't notice or I don't care, but since Nick Lea had the 1940s vibe down cold, I couldn't help but notice. I wish they would tell Jensen to just pull back a little on the Batman voice, it really ruins the moment especially in the interrogation scene. Eliot was wonderful and Dean was goofy and cartoonish all because of his voice. (Please, don't shoot me for this. He looked GOOD! But I really think Jensen is too good of an actor to be doing something as forced and cliche as growling in an interrogation.)
Overall, it was a wonderful episode! I wish we would be able to see more of Chronos, but at least we might see more of Jody Mills!! I hope next time she is on the show, she plays the mom card with both the brothers! (I miss the Suite Life of Zach and Cody! I don't care how that sounds!)

o i didnt know he helped write this. i didnt even see it lol i thought he's been busy writing the deadman pilot and another pilot i think. if its true then yea nice to have him back i like sera and all but its always nice to have eric back to.
Sam and Jody need to work together more, they were the best part of the episode.
OK so Sam didnt get to dress up and fangirl like Dean did but in all honesty he was the better half of the equation. Plus he had some really great lines and all his scenes with Jody were brilliantI'm glad I was right about the promos showing the less interesting stuff in the episode.
Cronos was good too as expected.
That Nick Leah guy really did live up to the hype he owned those scenes so much so that I completely forgot Dean was there at all other than when he was being a fangirl.
Hope Dean finally gets the message now-either suck it up and be a hunter or just shut up and dont. There are others out there who have it a lot worse than you just ask your brother.
The promo for the next episode kinda made me want to puke, I dont think I'll be able to watch that one there may have to be some serious fast forwarding going on. Did it remind anyone else of Angel I'm sure that show did this storyline already?
i kinda agreed but he said he became a hunter. maybe he did leave the force but still has the badge to be involved when he needs to. responsed to the elliot ness comment
I noticed the growling but I didn't think it was as big a distraction this time, since there was so much to LOVE about this episode. And no offense to Jared, but the 1940's was "alright"? Your opinion but I don't see how you could fail to like it. I thought the look of the show was great and Jensen and Nicholas Lea did a tremendous job (along with their "wardobe lady"...she was a hoot!).
As for the year descrepancy...I think they covered that by establishing that Elliot Ness was working as a hunter, not strictly and FBI agent, so it worked for me. I didn't see it as big mistake or issue. This is SPN...hardly the first time they've stretched the boundaries of reality. :)
It reminded me EXACTLY of Angel. That episode looks god awful. What is this Lisa and Ben Part II?? And yet another Dean centric episode? That's a bit too many in a row. Can we mix it up please and remember the other character.
I'll concede I worried for nothing because Sam was the better half of the episode loved his scenes with Jody, all his snark and well just his awesomeness. Do wish they'd crack on with his arc though and I have never been more thrilled that Dean's 13 episode arc is pretty much over because that next episode looks cringe worthy.
Question is what will Dean do?! Kill her?! Because when I think back to Amy and the reasons he told Sam, why he had to kill her...... But you are right AGAIN a Dean centric episode. Wondering if Jared is already in his Babytime, or what. I mean this isn´t normal. Again an epi I will not watch. First I didn´t like that Idea when it was on Angel, and it´s for me simply too much Dean!
I really liked this one! It's rare that a show can make you laugh and remind you that you're in mourning at the same time, but Time After Time After Time did just that. The boys are working in sync again, neither of them really knowing why, but neither of them willing to stop. I love seeing Dean's inner child come out -- we don't get to see that much anymore and it was nice to see him having fun and forgetting all the weight on his shoulders for a while. He worked well as an "Untouchable" and all the misunderstood movie references and slang phrases from now and then were very well done. It showed how different the times were, while the way they worked together and the people they worked with showed that things really weren't all that different. Ness' advice to Dean was as concise and welcomed as Frank's was. Dean is starting to push through the grief -- he's not there yet, but he's taking it all in and that's a start.
Sam and Jodie worked well together. I thought her interest in 'their kind of job' and her ability and willingness to help the boys was a nice testament to how much she felt for Bobby. even tho he's gone, he still has a hand in helping his boys and she is a great addition to the team. I loved the little pause she gave before saying his name and finding the bottle from Rufus, and her soft words about how they were puzzles they kept finding pieces to were perfect.
I loved the editing, letting us watch the action on both fronts. Having Sam's research cut in seamlessly with Dean's discoveries was a fantastic and high-pitched way to tell the story. It showed them working together even though they were nowhere near each other. They could still rely on the other's ability to have their backs. Having Dean find the house they were squatting in and leave the message for Sam wasn't really a surprise, but it did work well to make sure there was a happy ending. Dean knowing he couldn't leave if he killed Chronos, but trusting that if he did his job, his brother would come up with something once he had the information he needed, shows the boys are back on the same page. There may be some bumpy roads ahead, but at least they're facing it together -- even if they're not even in the same decade.
Oh, and on a selfish, fangirl note: Dean looks very hot in a three piece suit. :)
Looking forward to dealing with some extremely creepy 'daddy issues' next week. :)
It's just a personal thing, but I had trouble getting around the year mistakes because Eliot Ness left Chicago after he left the police force. (I get hung up on the details and don't get me started on the one year jump that was "forgotten.") I know the show stretching the boundaries, but sometimes for me, I find stuff that could have been fixed by just a line or moving the episode from 1944 to 1934 a little difficult to get pass. They would still have the suits and cars with "The Untouchables" in the 1930s. But I didn't say or mean to imply that I didn't like it, because I did. The look was wonderful and as were the characters from 1940s.
And I agree they did a great job balancing this episode with the brothers. I wasn't disappointed that they were a part for most of the episode. I'm not sure why you're saying no offense to Jared when you don't agree with my opinion and it's okay. But for me, I liked the present part better. Both parts were good, but for me, Sam and Jody connected and it's has been a long, long time since Sam has connected with a guest star character who wasn't a monster. And I really loved that.
So Sheriff Mills is a hunter now, or at least learning to be one. Cool--she'll be good at it. And I liked Ezra, the Bobby Singer character from the 40s. Tough lady. Nicely played all around.
Kripke is listed as the writer of every episode on IMDb because it says creator by his name. He didn't actually write this episode. He does usually do the finales but not a whole lot else. However, Robbie Thompson is rapidly rising on my list of favorite SPN writers after this and Slash Fiction. 2 wins already. I can't wait to see what she does next.
Ok, so Sam and Jody together were great! Ness and his Bobby-ette character were brilliant, and Jason Dohring's Chronos was pitch perfect. He did a lot with a limited role. And that's partly why the only thing I didn't like about the episode was that he died... I wish that for once, the "ancient instrument" didn't work and it just pissed him off or something. Dean's trip to the past was very enjoyable and the sets/costumes, etc. just blew me away. This show does wonders with its ability to fit authentic time pieces into this show!
I was kind of hoping that people who complained about this episode based on the promo and then ended up liking it wouldn't be so fast to judge other episodes based on their promos. Obviously a Supernatural promo is not always the best way to determine whether the episode will be good or not.
The scene where he and Jody are talking I couldn't even hear what they were saying. I was thinking "Slice girls is the next episode...maybe Sam wakes up to these people cutting his hair?"
It's gone to the point where he just looks...odd to me. But whatever.
Oh Jeez. That spells success, doesn't it? They literally had a character apologize through a character to the audience for Route 666 and yet they're gonna let him write more???
They weren't in Chicago, they were in Canton. Dean left the message in the house they were staying in during the current investigation. Since that investigation was in Canton, Elliot Ness and Dean were in Canton in 1944. Do I know where Elliot Ness was in 1944? No, but Canton is as good a anything. At least they got it right that he started his early career in Cleveland.
I loved it! so good I did not think I like so much but it was great. I like the BTTF3 thing with dean doing that letter and sam finding it that was AWESOME! so a good ep untell I seeing the preview to the next ep in 2 week and said WTF? DEAN YOU JACKASS! now going to be one mess up ep.
It's written by Eugenie Ross-Leming and Brad Buckner and yes, they did write Route 666 (but not M3TR -that was Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder) and Shut Up Dr Phil. I didn't like R66, but I really liked Shut Up Dr Phil. I like to wait and see before deciding whether or not I like an episode.
yes, I completely agree. There have been some really good effects in this show, but lately it seems to be a bit hit or miss, and this episode was definitely a hit!
I'm so happy that I'm not sad after this episode. Even with the creepy ending, I'm still not sad.
I was so sure that I wasn't going to see anything but research and panic from Sam while Dean went off to be a big angsty hero and instead I got a light hearted Dean (he has been greatly missed), a kick ass Ness (loved him to bits), kind of sad but wonderful Chronos, and Sam finally got to connect with a recurring character... and she's not a demon! Sam's scenes were short, but they count and they were good.
We also had some tiny brother moments that have been few and far between for too long...
I don't know if I really liked the episode yet, but I definitely didn't dislike it, which is a good thing. Most of the episodes this year, even if I liked them, I felt sad or at least very worried afterward. So, this is a step up. Even the light hearted (to me) Season 7, Time for a Wedding made me feel sad.
The only episodes that have stood out for me so far are the best and the worst:
#1) 7x02 - Cruel World #2) 7x01 - Meet the New Boss
... everything else ...
#11) 7x03 - Girl Next Door (It is so low because of the great let down after 7x02 and the ending *grrrrr*) #12) 7x04 - Defending Your Life
It is hard for me to compare an episode that I love to watch over and over (Time for a Wedding) against a brilliantly written episode (Death's Door); let alone all of the others that have parts I love and parts I skip right through.
But, I think this was a good episode and if I still like watching most of it after 5 or 6 times through (I have already watched it twice), it might make it towards the top of the list because I think it was well written and didn't feel forced (most of the time). To me, many of the episodes had parts that just felt unnatural... like Ellen telling Dean to talk to someone, or Sam magically understanding about the Amy thing, or all the weird time issues in the last one, or the "let's get Sam out of the room/van so we can talk" times.
The joke was when Dean was on the computer and Sam asked if he was going to looks at more anime, or if he was "just into DIck now.." classic delivery by Jared... love it
Funny episode but it just seemed to end abruptly. Liked it better than some of the other time travel episodes, but who the hell is Eliot Ness?
And how come its always so easy to kill a god? Just needs this kind of ancient stick that's somehow easily manageable to find? Ah maybe I'm just being too hard on the show, its still entertaining but this season is definitely making me waver in my opinion of the show. Here's to hoping only Leviathan episodes from here on!
Having watched the episode, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that it was no ITB or the End. Jensen's Dean was very lighthearted and fun with a few annoying things to distract from that. The 1940s thing was done great :)
I knew that it would be Sheriff Jody as the old friend and I really enjoy hers and Sam's banter/interaction. She is the one character that I think has interacted the most with Sam and I love her whole mothering of Sam. It could have be kitschy but in it I see a reflection of what Bobby was to Dean...
I LOVED the brotherly moments/comments- that is pure classic Supernatural. I especially love the few minutes that they devoted to showing how the boys approach squatting. I know that it was relevant for later on in the episode but none the less, it is one of those little not really important things that I love to actually watch on the show instead of hearing it referred to in dialogue or just knowing.
i absolutely loved this episode. i think it is my favourite since meet the new boss and hello cruel world. i loved every minute of it. the 40's were awesome. ness was awesome. sam and jody were great and i thought kronos was an interesting monster. it was interesting to see how much he resented being called a monster as well. and i loved seeing the brotherly stuff like rock paper scissors. reminded me of season 1. i love season 1. but i've been really enjoying this season so far though, its been awesome
I really liked the ep. There've been quite a few eps this season that really feel, to me, like first season eps.
I was worried when, I saw Jody, that the boys hadn't told her that Bobby had died. Really glad they respected her enough to do that. I had forgotten about Elliott Ness. That was a fun discovery. And Dean expecting a movie to be historically accurate. Typical and really funny. Loved Ness as a hunter. Loved Ness telling Dean to suck it up. This ep just made me want to see Jody more. Really good ep. Lots of fun.
The future revelation was interesting though....other than a huge fight...I'm not sure what to make of it yet. Why do I have to wait until Feb 3 for a new ep. :-(
I'm so happy that this episode turned out so well and that every one who was worried about Sam was more or less happy with his role in it.
I'm glad he has bonded with Jodie for apart from the negative example of Ruby he has never had the experience of a caring "motherly" woman in his whole life.
It would be nice if this relationship continues and that she sort of leans towards Sam more than Dean for I really feel he deserves some fussing over:-)
Time travel episodes are amongst my favourites and I'm sure this is going to be high on my fav. eps. list.
"Actually I loved how both brothers got their fair share of air time for ONCE. I thought there was a perfect balance and both did a tremendous job."
I believe that your enjoyment of 1944 Dean may have clouded your judgement of screen time, or it was the influence of Chronos. :-)
In total, during the time they were separated Sam was in less than 8 minutes of time and Dean was in more than 20 minutes. since the whole episode is about 40 minutes from start to finish, Dean had more than 25% of the whole episode to himself over and above the time that Jared had to himself... And Dean was living a dream hunt, in the past, with Eliot Ness (minus a little time leaving a note for Sam and talking to Ezra). During that time he was time traveling and working with Eliot Ness and tracking a god (not to mention the cool clothes).
Sam finally getting to connect with someone was great, but there were only 2 fairly meaningful scenes. The reminiscing about Bobby, and the discovery of Dean's note with the threat of using the dreaded Mom voice. Those scenes were nice, but did it "honestly" feel balanced... For me it was more that it was nice that Sam got to do something "significant", like talking about something important, when he often doesn't... This was especially nice since this was the third Dean-only time travel episode. Sam normally isn't included much at all in those episodes. So, this was a nice change.
For me, the best part was the brotherly moments (insults, rock / paper / scissors) in the first 10 minutes.

Loved it! Dean with Ness and Sam with Jody were great! Too bad, they didn't spend too much time together. Nice to see Jason again;) But was he said at the end was creepy. But you know, last time guys found a way to beat the future/destiny so why not do it again? :)
This episode was funny, interesting, very well written and acted! Hate the break (3 weeks!)! Again!
I really loved this episode. It is very refreshing to see the boys apart and behaving like brothers. Sam was totally focused on getting Dean back to now. Jody and Sam worked tirelessly with some Rufus whiskey and Bobby nostalgia it was very warm and very real. Dean was hilarious and goofy...Sean Connery LOLOL sorry but I forgot the name of the pasts female Bobby Singer. She was a hoot.......IDGIT I nearly sobbed over that word and Deans reaction was genuine and beautiful. Great job Jared and Jensen. Your acting was superb.Dean you took that kiss on the lips like a man !!! LOLOLOL I really loved when Dean went into the old house that him and Sam were living in now time. He moved the bed and tried to figure where Sam would see his message. When Sam went to lay down he looked like a little boy moving his head from side to side on the pillow and then WHAM ............SAM carved into the molding!!! PRICELESS face from Sam ..........his whole face lit up! You see folks this is SUPERNATURAL stuff brotherly love and chemistry this is why I fell in deep love with this show. These 2 guys are tremendous together in all scenes...and now thankfully when they are apart for an episode they are still together if you know what I mean. I was not disturbed by Chronos warning .......because these boys are Winchesters and a force to be reckoned with! The actor that played Mr Ness was great as well I loved the way he was totally the cool one and Dean was the nerdy guy. Excellent spin. I also loved wjhen Dean took over the lap top and showed Sam the security cameras.............Sam was so impressed and Dean was proud what a switch what a great great scene. No more angst and betrayal and untrust. WOW it is so good to watch this show and not cringe every second in worry that these boys are going to split up in anger. This show is Supernatural at its finest. Can we just kill those LEVIATOTS and be done with that back pain of a story. There are so many other great things for Sam and Dean to hunt and explore. This back pain story is a hindrance.. not to mention tiring for the boys and us fans!
Totally epic! Supernaturally awesome! They definitely 'kicked it in the ass' (RIP Kim Manners) last night! So many memorable one liners in an absolutely fantastic script. And of course once again Jensen was so fudging brilliant I thought for a moment the star bright would blind me! Perfect!!!!
Jody is to Sam what Bobby was to Dean? I like that comparison. Lets hope we see a lot more of those two together, I would love to see them team up on a hunt or two further down the line. Just dont kill her off writers.
I thought this was an absolutely fantastic episode - it had a great flow, Jason Dohring and Nicholas Lea were amazing, and there was a great balance between funny and mournful. All in all, a good example of why I love this show.
Thanks :) the comparison came to me after watching this episode and realizing that she has had the most interaction with Sam. I really hope that they don't kill her off!! She is wonderful and I love her with Sam it is just so awww.
I look forward to the day that Jared's sideburns finally join together into an epic moustache. Also I loved Dean's attempt at a heart to heart with Eliott. I especially liked when Dean asked him who died to make him a hunter. "Nobody died you morbid son of a bitch!" It was actually kind of interesting to meet a hunter who wasn't hunting out of revenge/grief.
Well the amazons apparently are aging really fast according to the promos. So unless they stop aging once they become adults, I'm guessing Dean's bundle of joy will be dead of old age by the end of the episode.
Loved this episode. Had all the makings of a classic. Action packed, emotional moments and great one liners. Thought all 3 guest stars were awesome too, especially Eliot Ness :)
No, you really shouldn't because you're letting yourself get hung up on a really tiny detail that, in the overall context of the show, isn't really relevant. As I said, I had no problem with the descrepancy...no-one said Ness was still working as a lawman, he was working as a HUNTER. In that context, he could've been wherever he wanted at whatever time.
And I said "no offense to Jared" because I didn't want the Sam fans thinking I was being critical of his part ot this episode. Far from it, I loved his part of it, but I loved the period stuff too. I thought it was ALL well done.
Ah, that makes sense. Now I know how to inberpret imdb's listings. And I completely agree on Robbie Thompson...she's rising on my list of favorite SPN writers too. :)
I knew it was too good to last and someone would complain about the lack or air time for Sam. Sorry, but I don't watch every episode with a stopwatch. I honestly couldn't tell you the exact amount of time each actor was on screen and frankly I wouldn't want to...that would take all the enjoyment out of the show.
I go by my perceptions while watching and what I perceived last night was Sam being actively involved in a case from start to finish, interacting with another character on a personal level and, oh by the way, being the one to actually kill the creature and save the day...and his brother...in the end.
No, he didn't go to 1945, sorry if that's a dissapointment but I didn't think it took away from his side of things at all in this episode. As I said it "FELT" balanced, whether or not the actual screen time was equal. For the first time in a long time, Sam was getting to be something more than wallpaper in the background and I enjoyed that fact.
And for the record, she was on screen far less than either brother or Elliott Ness or Sheriff Mills but it was the "wardrobe lady" outfitting the hunters in 1945 who stole the entire episode for me. So so much for actual screen time meaning anything...it's not the time, it's what you do with it (or what your character gets to do with it courtesy of the writers!) that counts!

Loved every second of it! I feel sorry for Jodi, too. She and Bobby would have made a cute couple. I think Jodi and Sam are both in mourning for Bobby. Otherwise, I loved Dean's enthusiasm for Elliot Ness and the past and the future. The woman in the clothing shop, for some strange reason, I thought that maybe she could have been a past relative of Bobby's because of the way she talked. Now, we have to wait until Feb. 3 for another new episode. It thought we were getting a break for just a week, but it looks like it will be 2 this time once again. Looks like another great one when it does get here!
Kripke? No wonder it was awesome! I like him better than all the new writers and Sera when it comes to writing. Even Ben Edlund, except they're a tie when it comes to drama. Ben is really great at drama.
Didn't Sam fans whine about this episode after the promos thinking it was Dean-centric and end up loving it. So you won't watch the next one and yet you could love it. For what it's worth and since Sam fans are whining so loud that it's all we're hearing I think Jensen's doing a great job this season.
There has been a lot of imbalance in this show throughout the years. Most of the screen-time, snarky comments, time-travel, interactions with guest stars, etc. generally go to Dean. Sam, and Sam & Dean, fans are often left wondering where the other half of the brother team went. So now fans have come to expect Sam to be slighted. Sam fans expect the worst so they are not too disappointed when it happens.
The writers will have to demonstrate through more balanced episodes that they acknowledge that there are two brothers. When, and if, they establish a pattern of writing equally for both brothers then the Sam fans won't feel the need to be so apprehension of his role in each upcoming episode.
Well, Angel's son grew in another dimension where time moves differently and even though Connor did try to kill his father on several occasions, he was actually a "helpful" addition to the team and became a very important part of the mythology (although very divisive character in the show's history...I could go on but I won't), this is just a one-off character, I am sure he will kill his "daughter" in the end and will have very little impact, I'm sure, please as much as I love SPN, never compare it to the Buffyverse ( I am a girl! And that fandom has way many kick ass women, that don't get killed off. As much as love guy candy, Angel did brooding emo better than Dean ever thought about it and without a drink (unless you count pig's blood).
Also CW is very bad about putting scenes into promos that don't ever make it into the ep. It got so bad, that I don't watch next ep promos on CW any longer.
I have 2 complete sets of Angel & Buffy DVDs, but the only time I really got into Angel was as Angelus. I guess that is one reason I am loving Stefan right now and never cared for the Angel lite version. Dean has never reminded me of Angel and am very thankful of that. ;) I just don't think anyone does tears, pain and torment better than Jensen, Jared is close, but they are both better than Angel. IMHO
Seen a couple of remarks now about Sam having the better part of the episode last night and I don't get it. I thought for once it was balanced...both brothers had plenty to do and were well represented. How you could not appreciate Dean's fan boy reaction and just the look of the 1940's scenes is beyond me, but to each his own.
Exactly...every episode can't be about the big bads. I love the stand alone episodes. And frankly, I'm just not getting into the Leviathans but that's just me.
Here's a thought...why don't we stop jumping to conclusions and wait until the episode actually airs BEFORE we complain?! If all you went on was the promos for last night's episode you would've thought Sam was slighted but he wasn't. So you never know until you actually see it!
Bingo Dahne! I have to admit, just looking at the promos for last night's episode I was expecting all Dean and no Sam and I was very pleasantly surprised. So you really never know and shouldn't jump to conclusions based solely on the promos!
The ending was my one small quibble with this episode...I was expecting something more, a "wrap up" of sorts with Sam, Dean and Jody. But for me it wasn't enough to take away from the overall solidness of the episode.
As for Elliot Ness...you seriously don't know who he is? He was an actual FBI agent back in the 30's/early 40's and became known for taking down some of Chicago's biggest gangsters of that time. I loved the fact that they morphed him into a hunter in this episode...that was an inspired twist, imo.
And with all due respect...man, I hope we don't have only Leviathan episodes from here on out because frankly the Leviathans do nothing for me as baddies.
Couldn't agree more on all counts and especially about ditching the Leviathans and moving on to other thigns. I think the "big bad" angle is a hindrance this season too...they just don't seem to be well thought out as big bads and so when they do get injected into an episode it's more a distraction than anything. I would so love to see them end the Leviathans and just go back to hunting evil and saving people...what the Winchesters do best!
I LOVED that whole exchange and really hope that Dean took it to heart. The idea that you can be a hunter simply because it's the right thing to do and not out of revenge...man, that's a lesson both boys have needed to learn. I think Sam's got it (always did, really) but Dean's been awfully slow to come around. Hopefully now it will begin to sink in.
Ya it would've been nice to see some kind of wrap up for the episode, and maybe a little nod with all 3 to Bobby.
Nope never heard of Elliot Ness, not well educated on the 30s/early 40s for much especially anything to do with gangsters because it doesn't interest me. I may look it up because I am curious who this guy is because I am a little intrigued now.
Ah well to each their own, personally the only episodes that have been any good to me have had to do with Leviathan's. Sure they're not as cool as they should've been, but the episodes with them in it have saved this lackluster season to me (aside from Death's Door and even that had some leviathans in it).
Did you mean to reply to me or Pam? I liked Dean's storyline and didn't think, of the two storylines, that Sam got an interesting one and Dean didn't. I thought both were good.
Pam thought the interesting storyline was given to Sam in order to make Sam a more interesting character. I just asked her to explain why.
People are always counting numbers of minutes/seconds each boys are in the promos or/and the episode and/or the number of promo pics of each to judge the episodes
I feel quite alone but here I go : I didn't really enjoy this episode.
I found it quite predictable, Not to say it was awfull. they were some funny lines, and the acting was great.
Sam and Sheriff Mills scenes were good and the "god in love" twist was a nice touch. But I didn't see the point of time-travel, except to disguise Jensen, and the way Dean came back to his time was a little too convenient.
I didn't find Dean Fan boy attitude really funny. It isn't new and I enjoyed much more the "dr sexy" moments or Dean cow-boy fetish in "changing channels" and "frontierland". Maybe that's because it's an abrupt change of pace from the previous episode where Dean was all anger and desire of revenge.
I must say I love this Dean, How he's focused and channel all his pain into one objectif : kill Dick Roman. If the writers could give us an equal motivation for Sam, the leviathian are toasted.
Here's a thought... why don't you read and respond to what I said rather than just lecturing me about something I was not doing.
My comment was on the history of how the Sam character has been treated and why Sam fans are often apprehensive about upcoming episodes based on both that knowledge and the promo. It's not as if there isn't precedence for him to have a limited role in many episodes, especially time travel ones in which Dean is heavily promoted.
Here's another thought… go lecture the Dean fans who are already complaining about a retread of the Lisa/Ben storyline or the upcoming Dean angst. [Disclaimer: I am not saying the next episode is a copy of Lisa/Ben – it's just what I've been reading already.] LOL
I happen to like both brothers and prefer when there is a balance in the show.
Not all of us are. And as I said in another response on the subject, it's not the quantity of screen time that matters, it's the quality. The old woman outfitting Dean and Ness was on sreen only a fraction of the time of the main actors and yet she pretty nearly stole the entire show. So I personally don't go by amount of time at all, but what's done with it. So Sam didn't have the same amount of screen time...between Jared and the writers for this episode that didn't matter, they stil made it work.
Exactly...I admit I made the same mistake for this week's epsiode, so I'm cautioning others against doing the same in the future. Better to wait and see what happens when the episode airs!
Again, not "lecturing" anyone. Merely pointing out that it is very hard to tell how a full episode will play out from the few seconds of promo. This week's episode was perfectly example of that.
And for the record, I find the whining about the upcoming episode :"obviously" being a retreated of Lisa/Ben just as silly. You can't tell anything from the promo...that's my point!
I know its not all of us, I don,t do it and I find it sad people who are doing it, how are they suppose to enjoy anything while being busy to time everything?
There's a campaign starting to save Castiel on Tumblr. They need all the support they can get, so if you are at all interested in getting back our angel, visit operationtrenchcoat.tumblr.com to find out what you can do. This could actually work if enough people contribute, so please, please visit the site and help out.
If you notice, I didn't complain about it... I was joking about the fact that it wasn't anywhere close to balanced, but you loved the episode (or parts of the episode) so much that it felt balanced to you. (that is what the smiley was supposed to show)
To me, your original statement about the screen time reminded me of the way I feel when I am waiting for a favorite event (like going to Vancouver for the Supernatural Convention) and time drags. Then the event happens and it is over before you know it. Time is really moving at the same pace, but if you are enjoying it so much that time kind of loses its meaning, that is a sure sign of quality. I asked if you truly felt it was balanced because that would just be another measure to say how much you liked the episode.
I noticed the difference, but I was surprised by how much it didn't bother me.
Totally enjoyed this episode. The supporting cast help to make it one of the best of the season so far. Loved the returned of Sheriff Mills too and her grief for Bobby. And how sad was the look on Sam's face when realizing that Dean very well might be stuck in 1944 forever. Wonderfully sublte emotion there from Jared. Jensen and "Elliott Ness" were a fun pair. And great job by the set directors for really taking us back in time. Solid special effects to with the neck veins lighting up in Kronos after Sam stabbed him.
I loved Misha in all his characters so don't care how he comes back, I just want him back. Since he is coming back in 17 and that is the ep Sam is supposed to go crazy, I figure it will be Cas coming to help Sam. Since he is the cause of this he should fix it.
Brilliant episode! Great balance between the past and present scenes. There were some fantastic jokes (loved the Dick joke). Loved Jody and Sam working together - it's nice to see another person affected by Bobby's death and I hope that's not the last we see of Jody (and her mom voice). Ness and Dean were great as well - loved how confused Ness sometimes was at Dean's references to the period. Not much Levia action but the last scenes were enough to create some anticipation and tension. On a shallow note - Dean looked yummy in his suit (and he even got some cougar action out of it - lol).
I'd rather not have Cas lay one hand on Sam let along fix him. I'd rather Dean and this group of "unknown as yet" friends help Sam after he breaks down because I adore concerned Big Bro Dean <3.
The most recent Bob Singer interview reads all "Smallvill-y" and says that that Cas who returns is not Cas that "left/died (?). So who is this NewCas? "Cas" could be a LeviaClone who Dean should supersoak with Borax and behead on site. MC could be a "resurrected Jimmy". Or, even more unlikely "Cas/Jimmy/MC" could even be the true "God's new vessel" - not the "mutated angel" as Death referred to godCas/Godstiel, True God Cas-Jimmy would have the ability to really heal Sam (but as I said I rather have Dean help Sam) whereas I had doubts about Castiel's being able to "fix Sam" with or without the Purgatory Soul Power Boost he sought.
This next is from the Zap2it article posted on 1/11/12 (the last paragraphs): “When we spoke with Sera Gamble this week, she wouldn't breathe a word about Collins' three-episode arc, which begins with episode 317. Singer had a bit more to say now that the script is finished. "When they run across Castiel, it's a very different kind of Castiel. Dean has a bit of a moral dilemma in regard to Castiel in that first episode," he reveals. "Dean does some soul searching."
Fans felt that they were left out to dry when Castiel "died" at the beginning of the season, but Singer promises a more satisfying conclusion this time. "It will feel like some sort of closure, yes," he says. "Not in the first episode back, of course, but by the third, absolutely." My feeling is that if the boys run into anything wearing Castiel/Jimmy's "face" Dean should feel conflicted - "Castiel broke Sam" just to distract Dean from prevented Crowley/Cas from opening Purgatory. But the boys/Bobby have made multiple, mournful references about Cas's fate in prior episodes. RS says this Cas will be a never seen version and adds that "Cas' 3 episode arc will leave fans satisfied and that kind of hints that "Cas" will be redeemed in someway.

This episode was better than I expected it to be, in large part due to the presence of Sheriff Mills. She was a great guest character. I wasn't impressed with Eliot Ness or Chronos.
Angel was the original brooder, David had that who;e dark and dangerous thing going on too, he always looked like he was about to snap and going crazy vamp at any given moment, you could see it sizzling under all the angst.
especially since you get self righteous fans bitching at you for having an opinion and doing the whole told you so thing. They got lucky, there was a 50/50 chance it would be no Sam or more Sam than we thought.
exactly what did people expect when Dean was promoted as the important part of the episode and Sam wasnt included? Lets put the boot on the other foot and see the Dean girls react oh wait episode 3 ring any bells. How about the season 6 finale when Dean girls said they wouldnt watch because it was going to be all about Sam's wall coming down.
I just wish people would allow others to leave their opinions without being bitched at for them. Dont respond to a comment you dont like or dont agree with.
Its quality not quantity after all, Sam may have not had as much time on screen but he made use of it well. It was nice story telling on his part of the episode without the time travelling, flashy costume, guest stars and what not. Sometimes the simple story telling is the best.
Misha has never disappointed and I am looking forward to whatever the writers throw at him. He is a super actor and I loved him in the movie Finding Home.
actually no they gave what they thought would be the more interesting part to Dean and Sam the lesser role. I was mearly impressed with the fact that Sam's part in the episode was just as if not more interesting to me because it was just as important and awesome without all the flashiness behind it.
Sam is interesting enough with costumes and what not thats probably why he doesn't get those roles in episodes like this.
I know, right? I mean I love SPN, but for real, respect your elders (I mean Picard is my favorite Captain and DSN is my favorite series out of all them but I still show much respect to the original).
Loved the episode, for me one of the best of the series. It was back to 'old school' Supernatural. Good story, good supporting cast and good monster of the week.
I didnt say I liked the episode nor did I say that Sam wouldnt be in it. My complaint has been the lack of movement on the Sam front and having promos that only showed Dean like he was the only one that mattered was not very encouraging. Yes there was more Sam than expected but still zero movement on Sam's arc.
Not that it matters now anyway because 14 begins/resumes Sam's arc at last but iw would have been nice to have known before episode 12 and even 11 that Sam was an important character. Its only this past week that more has been released on that front maybe because people were tiring of the wait. I noticed a good few interviewers and reviewers that have pointed out the lack of Sam this season.
They could have saved everyone a lot of worry and anger had they just shown Sam as a valued member of team Winchester.
omg loved loved loved where do i stop?. I mean loved all the in jokes from the "untouchables" and sam and dean playing rock paper sisors .Loved how Dean went back in time and for once it wasn't to do with an Angel it was fresh .And the back to the furure in jokes were class when Dean was lying in the old mans house lol .But there was a sad moment in it to where Sam talked to Jody and it was just so sad.I cant give this one any faults apart from that it finished to quick but hay that means i enjoyed it and didn't want it to end . 9/10
So I know I'm well late to this party, but this episode was too awesome not to come and talk about it! Basically, this can be summed up as follows:
Things I liked: Everything.
Things I didn't like: Nothing.
I'll be slightly more specific though!
Things I liked:
- Sam and Sheriff Mills. They were one of the best non-brother teams I've seen on Supernatural in ages, and I definitely preferred them to Dean and Frank. Their grief for Bobby was understated and all the more effective for it. I really hope they cracked open that bottle of whiskey! Also, Sheriff Mills 'Mom voice' was...sweet merciful awesome!
- Brother banter: I felt happier about the brotherly relationship after this episode than I had since probably just after Sam got his soul back in S6. I loved Dean showing off his new computer tricks, I loved them getting something to eat together, I loved rock-paper-scissors, and I really loved the Back to the Future III trick that Dean pulled to get a message to Sam! Though based on recent interviews, we know that Sam is still all kinds of screwed up with hallucinations and what not, so I can't imagine what he thought when he saw his name carved into the skirting board staring back at him!
- Dean in a zoot suit. Seriously. He cleans up nice! (Not that he's not nice anyway, by DAY-UM!) Also, I genuinely enjoyed Dean's interaction with Eliot Ness (even if I've never seen The Untouchables and actually had to look up who Ness was so I could catch some of the references). It was a nice touch to meet a hunter who wasn't driven to it by grief. Let's hope Dean takes some of Ness's advice and uses the hunting to give him a bit of clarity. It would be nice for the Winchesters to reach a point where the only options aren't insanity or grief.
- This is both episode-specific and more general: can I just say how much I LOVE that Supernatural have named their newest Big Bad Dick Roman? Seriously...so many immature jokes, so little time. "You gonna look at more anime, or are you strictly into Dick now?" That line actually made me snort tea up my nose, and I still have a little giggle every time I think about it!
- The guest stars: Ness and Chronos were both amazing, and the supporting guest stars were just as impressive, making for a very enjoyable episode. Chronos in particular was very chilling when predicting the Winchester boys future. Black ooze everywhere huh? Wonder what that could be from!
There are like 10000 other things I loved about this episode, but I specifically limited myself to five, because I only have so much time and I could ramble on for ages.
Things I didn't like:
- This is more something that baffled me than something I didn't like, but I couldn't think of anything else in the episode that I didn't love, so here goes: what was with the whole Ezra/Dean kiss? I just couldn't figure it out. It didn't seem to serve any purpose other than to confuse the hell out of both me and Dean. Plus, when I was thinking about it afterwards, it kind of creeped me out, because they'd been drawing comparisons between Ezra and Bobby for the whole episode, and then she ups and kisses Dean? Sorry, but I found that a bit weird!
Anyway, overall this is one of the best episodes of Supernatural this season, and certainly ranks high up there over the whole 138 (?) so far! It's a crying shame that its ratings weren't better, and I am rather peeved that we have to wait a whole two weeks for the next episode!
I found the Ezra/Dean kiss just a fun "cougar" moment, one I would love to put myself in. lol I agree with everything you said about the ep, it was fun from start to finish. I have been a fan of Jason Dohring since he played Logan in Veronica Mars and Josef in Moonlight.
Having watched it 'several' times now, I find myself sitting through Time After Time with one of those silly grins plastered across my face. Even during the scene with Sam & Jody talking about Bobby. It's one of those rare episodes that gets everything spot on.
Maybe it's the age thing for me so, because I would be the opposite end of the scale from cougar! :) This is the first thing I've actually seen Jason Dohring in, but he was impressive!
If you liked Jason, do yourself a favor and pick up the 3 seasons of Veronica Mars, it is in my top 5 favorite series and Logan is snarky with lots of great one liners.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I loved absolutely everything about this episode! Sam's "Dick" joke had me laughing for about half an hour. Jody using her Mom voice was adorable. Will forever be bitter Bobby/Jody didn't get to happen.
ReplyDeleteFelt bad for Chronos! And this is a new favorite!
Nice ending. Definitely like going back in time and meeting hunters of different eras.
ReplyDeleteI hope this episode will remind people that casting aspersions based on the promos never works for Supernatural. From what I can tell, this episode had everything that people were complaining would be missing. A great episode from a talented cast.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME! everything!
ReplyDeleteCan't find one single thing to fault in this episode.
ReplyDeleteThat was practically perfect! A+++++
ReplyDeleteLoved it! Much better than last week's, in my opinion. There were so many minutes that had me laughing out loud, although there were also sad moments like when Sam and Jody were reminiscing about Bobby. An amazing episode.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm bitter over no Bobby/Jody too. I could tell she's mourning too.
ReplyDeleteI was so focused on Ness (Nick Lea), that I barely even noticed Dean. Nick's been one of my favorite actors for almost 14 years now. ....Man, I think I teared up a little writing that.. 14 years.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Sam didn't have 5 minutes there. And he saved Dean.
ReplyDeleteOne of the best episodes this season. Sam working in the present was great, and Dean stuck in the past was entertaining, but Elliot Ness stole the show.
ReplyDeleteOh and fyi? It's 'Time After Time' not 'Time After Time After Time'. I took note of the opening credits after seeing it called both in different places.
ReplyDeleteIt did bug me that there was no movement forward in the Leviathan storyline. Factoring that in, this episode was decent.
ReplyDeleteMan what a refreshing change from last week.
ReplyDeleteI really, really liked Sheriff Mills too.
good episode
ReplyDeleteOk, to quote Dean...sweet mother of awesome!!
ReplyDeleteMan, that was good! For the first time in a long time I actually found myself giggling through an episode. Actual laughs, what a concept!
Some great lines..."More cartoon smut or are you just into Dick now?"
"What's he, some kind of farmer clown?"
"Awesome!" "Are you some kind of religious nut?"
Such a refreshing feeling to have good writing to revel in for a change!
I loved every single second! The jokes, the music, the action, the guest stars. Brilliant!!! LOVED it!
ReplyDeleteThe Dick joke killed me. And yes, I loved the 'Don't make me use my Mom voice!" :)
ReplyDeleteTo rate this episode completely honestly, I would need a "Good" option that falls between "OK" and "Great". However, it was close enough to "Great" that I don't mind giving it that rating even though I don't think it quite hit that mark.
ReplyDeleteVery funny episode. Some of the best quotes of the year so far.
ReplyDeleteJensen kind of reminded me of a combination of Eames and Arthur (Inception) during the interrogation scene.
I like Jodi. She grew on me in this episode.
Next episode: -_______________-''
Thought it was a great episode. Loved it and I thought Elliot Ness was great as well. I liked the end as Chronos was dying he mentioned a little about the future and how the Leviathans were everywhere. Interesting. I love how even when it is a stand alone episode they always seem to work something about the overall season story arc into the episode. SN has always been great for that. Even if there isn't big movement, they do have 23 episodes to work with this season, they never forget the overall season arc.
ReplyDeleteThey did get a warning from Chronos about black goo being everywhere. For me, that was more effective than the usual three minute run-in.
ReplyDeleteEhhh i didn't think it was anything special. I kind of prefer both brothers together than a guest star taking the front seat. Can this please be the last time episode?
ReplyDeleteTwenty minutes and nobody's gone off about Sam's hair and sideburns!!!
ReplyDeleteYou can get a Bobby/Jody scene. Just get Whoopi Goldberg and a penny...........
ReplyDeleteThe sideburns are godawful, but they at least weren't a distraction this week. :D
ReplyDeleteA suit-gasm...I love it! And I'm right there with you. Didn't like the slicked back hair, but lord can he rock a suit!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I loved the whole exchange about the computer trick...Dean stole Sammy's geek mojo for a moment there...that was priceless!
The dick joke was hysterical...one of many lines that had me laughing out loud! :D
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else think Jason Dohring must be a God for real, the man just does not age.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the whole ep, loved Dean's thrill at meeting Ness, that was just so much fun and WOW very HOT in that suit.
Going to watch again in the morning and will be back to post more thoughts.
Just double checked the writing credits because I missed it at the top of the show....Robbie Thompson and Eric Kripke. No wonder it felt so good...I knew Kripke needed to come back and kick some ass! THANK YOU...we're not worthy, we're not worthy! :D
ReplyDeleteI loved it! Even though the brothers were separated, there was alot of good brotherly moments. The back and forth banter between them, Sam franticly trying to get Dean back, and Dean allowed to be Dean in all his fanboyishness. Their chemistry felt on point, even if they weren't in the same room
ReplyDeleteRobbie Thompson needs to stay as writer because he gets their characters, in the old style. None of the others do anymore, or not consistently, even the vets.
Actually only Robbie Thompson wrote the episode. He was the only one credited as writing the episode in the beginning.
ReplyDeletehey did anyone happen to hear what elliot ness said at the end when he throws the weapon to dean as he leaves? the last line when they teleport away? great episode! i love time travel episodes on this show and time travel episodes have always worked best with dean. sam has done 2 going back in time to stop anna in season 5 and meeting samuel colt in season 6. the samuel colt one was sam's big time travel moment but dean has done it ALOT and its good. the only thing they havent done much is alternate realities. great episode and a great ending with the dieing by the leviathans! as much as i love the show i really do i really think (because cw decides next month on most renewals) that if they renewe supernatural with a season 8 they should make it the final season like smallville did so they could end it properly. it can Reach over 150 episodes that way, and it can end on an incredible note.
ReplyDeleteI checked imdb and they have Eric Kripke listed too.
ReplyDeleteAgreed on the writing...definitely keep Robbie Thompson working tirelessly!
ReplyDeleteHe yelled "Hey Untouchable!"
ReplyDeleteagreed on classic dean i bet jensen really took a load off this episode it was great. for this entire season so far i've been more fond of sam and his singular story then with dean and his (which is wierd considering i've always had a softer spot for dean in the series) but this episode was great for him and a lot of fans. i hope the ratings rise.
ReplyDeleteThat was a good episode!!
ReplyDeleteI loved that she pulled the mom card on Sam.
From CWTV
ReplyDeletePhil Sgriccia directed the episode written by Robbie Thompson.

o i didnt know he helped write this. i didnt even see it lol i thought he's been busy writing the deadman pilot and another pilot i think. if its true then yea nice to have him back i like sera and all but its always nice to have eric back to.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I saw that. Don't know why imdb has Kripke listed. As I said, it was still great either way and kudos to Robbie!
ReplyDeleteSam and Jody need to work together more, they were the best part of the episode.
ReplyDeleteOK so Sam didnt get to dress up and fangirl like Dean did but in all honesty he was the better half of the equation.
ReplyDeleteI noticed the growling but I didn't think it was as big a distraction this time, since there was so much to LOVE about this episode. And no offense to Jared, but the 1940's was "alright"? Your opinion but I don't see how you could fail to like it. I thought the look of the show was great and Jensen and Nicholas Lea did a tremendous job (along with their "wardobe lady"...she was a hoot!).
ReplyDeleteAs for the year descrepancy...I think they covered that by establishing that Elliot Ness was working as a hunter, not strictly and FBI agent, so it worked for me. I didn't see it as big mistake or issue. This is SPN...hardly the first time they've stretched the boundaries of reality. :)
I kinda dont mind that anymore I loved Sam and Jody working together he needs someone like her in his life, I hope to see more of them in the future.
ReplyDeleteI want to see Sam work with other people a lot more
It reminded me EXACTLY of Angel. That episode looks god awful. What is this Lisa and Ben Part II?? And yet another Dean centric episode? That's a bit too many in a row. Can we mix it up please and remember the other character.
ReplyDeleteI'll concede I worried for nothing because Sam was the better half of the episode loved his scenes with Jody, all his snark and well just his awesomeness. Do wish they'd crack on with his arc though and I have never been more thrilled that Dean's 13 episode arc is pretty much over because that next episode looks cringe worthy.
ReplyDeleteisnt it written by the same writer who wrote Route 666 and Mannequin?
ReplyDeleteit was so awesome, I laughed really hard at this poll's "awesome" option.
ReplyDeletealso can Jody PLEASE become a hunter? PRETTY PLEASE? <3
ReplyDeleteCan i say that I loved Eliot Ness cutting Dean emo fast? And Nick Lea was really outstanding, he overshadowed Jensen.
ReplyDeleteQuestion is what will Dean do?! Kill her?! Because when I think back to Amy and the reasons he told Sam, why he had to kill her......
ReplyDeleteBut you are right AGAIN a Dean centric episode.
ReplyDeleteSam and Jodie worked well together.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree they did a great job balancing this episode with the brothers.
ReplyDeleteKripke is listed as the writer of every episode on IMDb because it says creator by his name. He didn't actually write this episode. He does usually do the finales but not a whole lot else. However, Robbie Thompson is rapidly rising on my list of favorite SPN writers after this and Slash Fiction. 2 wins already. I can't wait to see what she does next.
ReplyDeleteOk, so Sam and Jody together were great!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Sam will have to kill the Dean spawn because thats what family does
ReplyDeleteYeah I was like "Hmmmm...I only see 2 times and 1 after..."
ReplyDeleteI was kind of hoping that people who complained about this episode based on the promo and then ended up liking it wouldn't be so fast to judge other episodes based on their promos. Obviously a Supernatural promo is not always the best way to determine whether the episode will be good or not.
ReplyDeleteThe scene where he and Jody are talking I couldn't even hear what they were saying. I was thinking "Slice girls is the next episode...maybe Sam wakes up to these people cutting his hair?"
ReplyDeleteIt's gone to the point where he just looks...odd to me. But whatever.
Yeah Jason Dohring looked exactly like he did in Veronica Mars. O_O
ReplyDeleteOh Jeez. That spells success, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteThey literally had a character apologize through a character to the audience for Route 666 and yet they're gonna let him write more???
That "Dick" joke was amazing! This was a really great episode, and I loved seeing more Jody!!
ReplyDeleteThey weren't in Chicago, they were in Canton.
ReplyDeleteOh, that makes sense, I guess. Maybe I shouldn't try to think about this one so much?
ReplyDeleteI loved it! so good I did not think I like so much but it was great. I like the BTTF3 thing with dean doing that letter and sam finding it that was AWESOME! so a good ep untell I seeing the preview to the next ep in 2 week and said WTF? DEAN YOU JACKASS! now going to be one mess up ep.
ReplyDeletei missed the joke what scene was it?
ReplyDeleteGotta add how amazed I was by the lighting and cinematography! Serge Ladouseur = Awesome
ReplyDeleteIt's written by Eugenie Ross-Leming and Brad Buckner and yes, they did write Route 666 (but not M3TR -that was Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder) and Shut Up Dr Phil. I didn't like R66, but I really liked Shut Up Dr Phil. I like to wait and see before deciding whether or not I like an episode.
ReplyDeleteExactly. But this week promo was great.
ReplyDeletewell... we already knew the title was changed.
ReplyDeleteThe God here is Robbie Thompson.
ReplyDeleteThe CGI for this episode was amazing. Especially Chronos dying.
ReplyDeleteyes, I completely agree. There have been some really good effects in this show, but lately it seems to be a bit hit or miss, and this episode was definitely a hit!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that I'm not sad after this episode. Even with the creepy ending, I'm still not sad.
ReplyDeleteI was so sure that I wasn't going to see anything but research and panic from Sam while Dean went off to be a big angsty hero and instead I got a light hearted Dean (he has been greatly missed), a kick ass Ness (loved him to bits), kind of sad but wonderful Chronos, and Sam finally got to connect with a recurring character... and she's not a demon!
#1) 7x02 - Cruel World
#2) 7x01 - Meet the New Boss
... everything else ...
#11) 7x03 - Girl Next Door (It is so low because of the great let down after 7x02 and the ending *grrrrr*)
#12) 7x04 - Defending Your Life
It is hard for me to compare an episode that I love to watch over and over (Time for a Wedding) against a brilliantly written episode (Death's Door); let alone all of the others that have parts I love and parts I skip right through.
I forgot about that one. I will have to add that to my tally of brother moments that I liked.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME episode Loved it from the start. Both Jensen and Jared did a great job. Can't wait till next week.
ReplyDeleteThe joke was when Dean was on the computer and Sam asked if he was going to looks at more anime, or if he was "just into DIck now.." classic delivery by Jared... love it
ReplyDeleteFunny episode but it just seemed to end abruptly. Liked it better than some of the other time travel episodes, but who the hell is Eliot Ness?
ReplyDeleteAnd how come its always so easy to kill a god? Just needs this kind of ancient stick that's somehow easily manageable to find? Ah maybe I'm just being too hard on the show, its still entertaining but this season is definitely making me waver in my opinion of the show. Here's to hoping only Leviathan episodes from here on!
I'm with you there, more Leviathan stuff please!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was funny, had me laughing through the whole thing.
ReplyDeleteHaving watched the episode, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that it was no ITB or the End. Jensen's Dean was very lighthearted and fun with a few annoying things to distract from that. The 1940s thing was done great :)
ReplyDeleteI knew that it would be Sheriff Jody as the old friend and I really enjoy hers and Sam's banter/interaction.
And the return of Rock, Paper, Scissors!! \o/
i absolutely loved this episode. i think it is my favourite since meet the new boss and hello cruel world. i loved every minute of it. the 40's were awesome. ness was awesome. sam and jody were great and i thought kronos was an interesting monster. it was interesting to see how much he resented being called a monster as well.
ReplyDeleteand i loved seeing the brotherly stuff like rock paper scissors. reminded me of season 1. i love season 1.
but i've been really enjoying this season so far though, its been awesome
I really liked the ep. There've been quite a few eps this season that really feel, to me, like first season eps.
ReplyDeleteI was worried when, I saw Jody, that the boys hadn't told her that Bobby had died.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he has bonded with Jodie for apart from the negative example of Ruby he has never had the experience of a caring "motherly" woman in his whole life.
It would be nice if this relationship continues and that she sort of leans towards Sam more than Dean for I really feel he deserves some fussing over:-)
Time travel episodes are amongst my favourites and I'm sure this is going to be high on my fav. eps. list.
"Actually I loved how both brothers got their fair share of air time for
ReplyDeleteONCE. I thought there was a perfect balance and both did a tremendous
job."

ReplyDeleteThis episode was funny, interesting, very well written and acted!

ReplyDeletesorry I did not mean to post twice.............. system error I need Frank LOL
ReplyDeleteTotally epic! Supernaturally awesome! They definitely 'kicked it in the ass' (RIP Kim Manners) last night! So many memorable one liners in an absolutely fantastic script. And of course once again Jensen was so fudging brilliant I thought for a moment the star bright would blind me! Perfect!!!!
ReplyDeleteJody is to Sam what Bobby was to Dean? I like that comparison. Lets hope we see a lot more of those two together, I would love to see them team up on a hunt or two further down the line. Just dont kill her off writers.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was an absolutely fantastic episode - it had a great flow, Jason Dohring and Nicholas Lea were amazing, and there was a great balance between funny and mournful. All in all, a good example of why I love this show.
ReplyDeleteThanks :) the comparison came to me after watching this episode and realizing that she has had the most interaction with Sam. I really hope that they don't kill her off!! She is wonderful and I love her with Sam it is just so awww.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to the day that Jared's sideburns finally join together into an epic moustache.
ReplyDeleteAlso I loved Dean's attempt at a heart to heart with Eliott.
ReplyDeleteI loved everything about this episode!
ReplyDeleteLoved this episode. Had all the makings of a classic. Action packed, emotional moments and great one liners. Thought all 3 guest stars were awesome too, especially Eliot Ness :)
ReplyDeleteNo, you really shouldn't because you're letting yourself get hung up on a really tiny detail that, in the overall context of the show, isn't really relevant. As I said, I had no problem with the descrepancy...no-one said Ness was still working as a lawman, he was working as a HUNTER. In that context, he could've been wherever he wanted at whatever time.
ReplyDeleteAnd I said "no offense to Jared" because I didn't want the Sam fans thinking I was being critical of his part ot this episode. Far from it, I loved his part of it, but I loved the period stuff too. I thought it was ALL well done.
Ah, that makes sense. Now I know how to inberpret imdb's listings. And I completely agree on Robbie Thompson...she's rising on my list of favorite SPN writers too. :)
ReplyDeleteI knew it was too good to last and someone would complain about the lack or air time for Sam. Sorry, but I don't watch every episode with a stopwatch. I honestly couldn't tell you the exact amount of time each actor was on screen and frankly I wouldn't want to...that would take all the enjoyment out of the show.
ReplyDeleteI go by my perceptions while watching and what I perceived last night was Sam being actively involved in a case from start to finish, interacting with another character on a personal level and, oh by the way, being the one to actually kill the creature and save the day...and his brother...in the end.

ReplyDeleteNow, we have to wait until Feb. 3 for another new episode. It thought we were getting a break for just a week, but it looks like it will be 2 this time once again. Looks like another great one when it does get here!
I guess they always give the interesting storylines to Sam in order to make the character interesting.
ReplyDeleteEvery year is like that though. They save progress for the end of the season when it comes to the big bads.
ReplyDeletelol I had an image of Sam jumping out of bed when he sees people with scissors above him. XD
ReplyDeleteI've only known him from Moonlight in 2007 but he definitely doesn't look like he aged since than.
ReplyDeleteKripke? No wonder it was awesome! I like him better than all the new writers and Sera when it comes to writing. Even Ben Edlund, except they're a tie when it comes to drama. Ben is really great at drama.
ReplyDeleteI like to say IMDB gets it wrong every time. I don't know who posts stuff, but it's not a very factual site in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteFinally have a new good writer. She knows the characters.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Sam fans whine about this episode after the promos thinking it was Dean-centric and end up loving it. So you won't watch the next one and yet you could love it. For what it's worth and since Sam fans are whining so loud that it's all we're hearing I think Jensen's doing a great job this season.
ReplyDeleteWow... didn't you think Dean had an interesting storyline? I did. Why do you feel that only Sam did?
ReplyDeleteI suspect that some people wouldn't be satisfied unless Dean plays every interesting role, gets every snarky comment, always gets the girl, etc. etc.
Loved the episode! And so great seeing Nicholas Lea in something. Haven't seen him in anything since The X-Files!
ReplyDeleteThere has been a lot of imbalance in this show throughout
ReplyDeletethe years. Most of the screen-time, snarky comments, time-travel, interactions
with guest stars, etc. generally go to Dean. Sam, and Sam & Dean, fans are
often left wondering where the other half of the brother team went. So now fans
have come to expect Sam to be slighted. Sam fans expect the worst so they are
not too disappointed when it happens.
The writers will have to demonstrate through more balanced
episodes that they acknowledge that there are two brothers. When, and if, they
establish a pattern of writing equally for both brothers then the Sam fans
won't feel the need to be so apprehension of his role in each upcoming episode.
I thought the same thing about the lady in the clothing shop!
ReplyDeleteThey are with a new company or something. Full CGI.
ReplyDeleteThe bees in 7x05 and the demon in 7x08 were a miss.
more Robbie and more Ben Ackler/Acker.
ReplyDeleteI was digging that too!
ReplyDeleteAnime IS an art form! (and so what if you like it as the porn version, LOL!)
ReplyDeleteWell, Angel's son grew in another dimension where time moves differently and even though Connor did try to kill his father on several occasions, he was actually a "helpful" addition to the team and became a very important part of the mythology (although very divisive character in the show's history...I could go on but I won't), this is just a one-off character, I am sure he will kill his "daughter" in the end and will have very little impact, I'm sure, please as much as I love SPN, never compare it to the Buffyverse ( I am a girl! And that fandom has way many kick ass women, that don't get killed off. As much as love guy candy, Angel did brooding emo better than Dean ever thought about it and without a drink (unless you count pig's blood).
ReplyDeletegood point, maybe she was one of Bobby's relatives?
ReplyDeletePerfect comment and I feel the same way.
ReplyDeleteIf you liked him as Josef in Moonlight, you would LOVE him as Logan in Veronica Mars.
ReplyDeleteAlso CW is very bad about putting scenes into promos that don't ever make it into the ep. It got so bad, that I don't watch next ep promos on CW any longer.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 complete sets of Angel & Buffy DVDs, but the only time I really got into Angel was as Angelus. I guess that is one reason I am loving Stefan right now and never cared for the Angel lite version. Dean has never reminded me of Angel and am very thankful of that. ;) I just don't think anyone does tears, pain and torment better than Jensen, Jared is close, but they are both better than Angel. IMHO
ReplyDeleteSeen a couple of remarks now about Sam having the better part of the episode last night and I don't get it. I thought for once it was balanced...both brothers had plenty to do and were well represented. How you could not appreciate Dean's fan boy reaction and just the look of the 1940's scenes is beyond me, but to each his own.
ReplyDeleteExactly...every episode can't be about the big bads. I love the stand alone episodes. And frankly, I'm just not getting into the Leviathans but that's just me.
ReplyDeleteDr. Dahne has spoken. :)
ReplyDeleteAmen to that...she rocks!! PLEASE let her write more episodes.
ReplyDeleteHere's a thought...why don't we stop jumping to conclusions and wait until the episode actually airs BEFORE we complain?! If all you went on was the promos for last night's episode you would've thought Sam was slighted but he wasn't. So you never know until you actually see it!
ReplyDeleteBingo Dahne! I have to admit, just looking at the promos for last night's episode I was expecting all Dean and no Sam and I was very pleasantly surprised. So you really never know and shouldn't jump to conclusions based solely on the promos!
ReplyDeleteThe ending was my one small quibble with this episode...I was expecting something more, a "wrap up" of sorts with Sam, Dean and Jody. But for me it wasn't enough to take away from the overall solidness of the episode.
ReplyDeleteAs for Elliot Ness...you seriously don't know who he is?
ReplyDeleteI LOVED that whole exchange and really hope that Dean took it to heart. The idea that you can be a hunter simply because it's the right thing to do and not out of revenge...man, that's a lesson both boys have needed to learn. I think Sam's got it (always did, really) but Dean's been awfully slow to come around. Hopefully now it will begin to sink in.
ReplyDeleteYa it would've been nice to see some kind of wrap up for the episode, and maybe a little nod with all 3 to Bobby.
ReplyDeleteNope never heard of Elliot Ness, not well educated on the 30s/early 40s for much especially anything to do with gangsters because it doesn't interest me.
:D The episode was AWESOME! And i'm glad Sam had things to do!...I own a lot of people the biggest I told you so ever xD
ReplyDeleteDid you mean to reply to me or Pam? I liked Dean's storyline and didn't think, of the two storylines, that Sam got an interesting one and Dean didn't. I thought both were good.
ReplyDeletePam thought the interesting storyline was given to Sam in order to make Sam a more interesting character. I just asked her to explain why.
People are always counting numbers of minutes/seconds each boys are in the promos or/and the episode and/or the number of promo pics of each to judge the episodes
ReplyDeleteI feel quite alone but here I go : I didn't really enjoy this episode.
ReplyDeleteI found it quite predictable, Not to say it was awfull. they were some funny lines, and the acting was great.
ReplyDeleteMy comment was on the history of how the Sam character has been treated and why Sam fans are often apprehensive about upcoming episodes based on both that knowledge and the promo.
And yet you just admitted that you jumped to a conclusion based on the promo and then you go around lecturing others for doing what you did.
ReplyDeleteI was also pleasantly surprised by the episode.
Yes, my reply was to Pam just hit reply after the wrong post..sorry! :D
ReplyDeleteNot all of us are.
ReplyDeleteExactly...I admit I made the same mistake for this week's epsiode, so I'm cautioning others against doing the same in the future. Better to wait and see what happens when the episode airs!
ReplyDeleteAgain, not "lecturing" anyone. Merely pointing out that it is very hard to tell how a full episode will play out from the few seconds of promo. This week's episode was perfectly example of that.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the record, I find the whining about the upcoming episode :"obviously" being a retreated of Lisa/Ben just as silly. You can't tell anything from the promo...that's my point!
Loved this episode so much! 1940's rule! Dean looked dapper lol :D The "Dick" joke was brilliant lol.
ReplyDeleteI know its not all of us, I don,t do it and I find it sad people who are doing it, how are they suppose to enjoy anything while being busy to time everything?
ReplyDeletePLEASE READ.
ReplyDeleteThere's a campaign starting to save Castiel on Tumblr. They need all the
support they can get, so if you are at all interested in getting back
our angel, visit operationtrenchcoat.tumblr.com to find out what you can
do. This could actually work if enough people contribute, so please, please visit the site and help out.
This is a counter attack. We're coming.
If you notice, I didn't complain about it... I was joking about the fact that it wasn't anywhere close to balanced, but you loved the episode (or parts of the episode) so much that it felt balanced to you. (that is what the smiley was supposed to show)
ReplyDeleteTo me, your original statement about the screen time reminded me of the way I feel when I am waiting for a favorite event (like going to Vancouver for the Supernatural Convention) and time drags.
ReplyDeleteExcellent eppy! Well done SPN!
Ok- episode. I just dont enjoy time travel episodes as much as I enjoy the others.
ReplyDeleteand hey, someone said they wanted Sam to interact with a guest star, there you go.
Ugh.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. My hair is a little longer than his but the Elvis-type sideburns get me.
ReplyDeleteI'd just hate for him to end up looking like Ryan Seacrest!
That lady did step out in front of the pack! I definitely liked the idea of a female "Bobby". Another one that caught me unexpectedly.
ReplyDeleteAgree. I have 0 interest in having Castiel return beyond the episodes MC is scheduled for. The "Angel Arc" is quoting Crowley "So '09".
ReplyDeleteFinally an episode I trully enjoyed since episode 1 of this season.
ReplyDeleteI loved Misha in all his characters so don't care how he comes back, I just want him back. Since he is coming back in 17 and that is the ep Sam is supposed to go crazy, I figure it will be Cas coming to help Sam. Since he is the cause of this he should fix it.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant episode!
ReplyDeleteI think it was a first for a time travel episode for SPN! it was awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteyeah that was funny as hell
ReplyDeleteI'd rather not have Cas lay one hand on Sam let along fix him. I'd rather Dean and this group of "unknown as yet" friends help Sam after he breaks down because I adore concerned Big Bro Dean <3.
ReplyDeleteThe most recent Bob Singer interview reads all "Smallvill-y" and says that that Cas who returns is not Cas that "left/died (?).
This next is from the Zap2it article posted on 1/11/12 (the last paragraphs): “When we spoke
with Sera Gamble this week, she wouldn't breathe a word about Collins'
three-episode arc, which begins with episode 317. Singer had a bit more to say
now that the script is finished. "When they run across Castiel, it's a
very different kind of Castiel. Dean has a bit of a moral dilemma in regard to
Castiel in that first episode," he reveals. "Dean does some soul
searching."
Fans felt that they were left out to dry when
Castiel "died" at the beginning of the season, but Singer promises a
more satisfying conclusion this time. "It will feel like some sort of
closure, yes," he says. "Not in the first episode back, of course,
but by the third, absolutely."
My feeling is that if the boys run into anything wearing Castiel/Jimmy's "face" Dean should feel conflicted - "Castiel broke Sam" just to distract Dean from prevented Crowley/Cas from opening Purgatory. But the boys/Bobby have made multiple, mournful references about Cas's fate in prior episodes. RS says this Cas will be a never seen version and adds that "Cas' 3 episode arc will leave fans satisfied and that kind of hints that "Cas" will be redeemed in someway.

ReplyDeleteThe most recent Bob Singer interview reads all "Smallvill-y" and says that that Cas who returns is not Cas that "left/died (?).
This episode was better than I expected it to be, in large part due to the presence of Sheriff Mills. She was a great guest character. I wasn't impressed with Eliot Ness or Chronos.
ReplyDeleteAngel was the original brooder, David had that who;e dark and dangerous thing going on too, he always looked like he was about to snap and going crazy vamp at any given moment, you could see it sizzling under all the angst.
ReplyDeleteespecially since you get self righteous fans bitching at you for having an opinion and doing the whole told you so thing. They got lucky, there was a 50/50 chance it would be no Sam or more Sam than we thought.
ReplyDeleteI'm not apprehensive about the lack of Sam in the next episode I'm apprehensive coz it looks like shit
ReplyDeleteexactly what did people expect when Dean was promoted as the important part of the episode and Sam wasnt included? Lets put the boot on the other foot and see the Dean girls react oh wait episode 3 ring any bells. How about the season 6 finale when Dean girls said they wouldnt watch because it was going to be all about Sam's wall coming down.
ReplyDeleteI just wish people would allow others to leave their opinions without being bitched at for them.
ReplyDeleteMisha has never disappointed and I am looking forward to whatever the writers throw at him. He is a super actor and I loved him in the movie Finding Home.
ReplyDeleteactually no they gave what they thought would be the more interesting part to Dean and Sam the lesser role. I was mearly impressed with the fact that Sam's part in the episode was just as if not more interesting to me because it was just as important and awesome without all the flashiness behind it.
ReplyDeleteSam is interesting enough with costumes and what not thats probably why he doesn't get those roles in episodes like this.
Sorry for the multiple posts.... my computer was going crazy and there's no "delete post" option.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I mean I love SPN, but for real, respect your elders (I mean Picard is my favorite Captain and DSN is my favorite series out of all them but I still show much respect to the original).
ReplyDeleteLoved the episode, for me one of the best of the series. It was back to 'old school' Supernatural. Good story, good supporting cast and good monster of the week.
ReplyDeleteI didnt say I liked the episode nor did I say that Sam wouldnt be in it. My complaint has been the lack of movement on the Sam front and having promos that only showed Dean like he was the only one that mattered was not very encouraging. Yes there was more Sam than expected but still zero movement on Sam's arc.
ReplyDeleteNot that it matters now anyway because 14 begins/resumes Sam's arc at last but iw would have been nice to have known before episode 12 and even 11 that Sam was an important character.
ReplyDeleteSo I know I'm well late to this party, but this episode was too awesome not to come and talk about it! Basically, this can be summed up as follows:
ReplyDeleteThings I liked: Everything.
ReplyDeleteHaving watched it 'several' times now, I find myself sitting through Time After Time with one of those silly grins plastered across my face. Even during the scene with Sam & Jody talking about Bobby. It's one of those rare episodes that gets everything spot on.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! I can't wait to rewatch it (I haven't had time since Saturday :-O)!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's the age thing for me so, because I would be the opposite end of the scale from cougar! :) This is the first thing I've actually seen Jason Dohring in, but he was impressive!
ReplyDeleteIf you liked Jason, do yourself a favor and pick up the 3 seasons of Veronica Mars, it is in my top 5 favorite series and Logan is snarky with lots of great one liners.
