I found it funny. It's not groundbreaking comedy but it was good entertainment, a lot more plot than just jokes as I expected, the laugh track sounded kind of cheap, as in low quality. The timing of Prepon and the asian girl were off some times, but the new roommate quirkiness was seriously funny, and Handler's timing withe her lines was really good and Dot was just awesome and hilarious, It was definitely on the good side of the scale. I wonder what the people that voted awful think, because I found it unwarranted.
Well, I think the awful voting was a backlash to NBC because they shuffled their schedule and took off Community. It doesn't make complete sense I know *shrugs*
Well, if it is that, It blows. I'm a Community fan, but a new show shouldn't be blamed by the decisions of the executives, that is just complete bias and is not fair.
It wasn't terrible but I was expecting better. The one liners were a little too on the nose and Laura Prepon seemed to be mugging too often to the camera. I don't know if this was the producer's intentions but a lot of the supporting cast were just physically weird. I don't mean to sound insensitive or superficial in any way but it was very distracting. Virgin room mate's face was weird and her eyes were buggy which kept creeping me out. The little guy from the bar is well... a little person which is always out of the ordinary.... and Asian best friend: sorry but her head is HUGE! It was all very distracting. I'm not saying that everyone needs to be physically perfect: far from it. But the combination of everything I found to be really off key. Overall they were going for the funny and they did hit some notes but missed a lot too.
I didn't see the show but I know what you mean and I like how you stated it. Sometimes, certain people are hard to look at on TV. Now if they were personal friends you wouldn't twice about how they look, but when you have to stare at them on a screen, it's distracting. It's a different thing if their looks are part of the character. Michael Chiklis is someone I avoid because, for some reason, his looks bother me. Yet if he were part of a group of my friends, I might think he looks fine.
I think that the pilot was honestly OK, but It could go either way from now and I wouldn't be surprised. It has a lot of rough edges and I hope they get corrected, because I really like Prepon, but if the quality drops, so will my viewership.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
it was ok it could have been funnier.
ReplyDeleteThat was terrible.
ReplyDeleteThe ratings should be interesting for this one. Might watch it when it comes on my time zone.

ReplyDeleteI agree but I don't think that fans are really rational at times...

ReplyDeleteI see your point. Well we'll have to see what happens in the coming weeks. I'm really picky with my comedy so I haven't seen the pilot yet.
