“Lilyhammer,” a gripping fish-out-of-water story set in Norway and starring “The Sopranos” mainstay and E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt, is a new Original Series premiering on Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) to watch instantly on February 6, 2012 in the USA, Canada and Latin America.
“Lilyhammer,” follows New York mobster Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano as he enters the federal witness protection program after ratting on his boss. A sports fan, Frank wants to make his new life in Lillehammer, the Norwegian town that hosted the 1994 Winter Olympics – or as he calls it “Lilyhammer.” Frank has visions of a paradise of “clean air, fresh white snow and gorgeous broads” far away from the temptations of the Big Apple and from mob hit men. Reality, of course, turns out to be spectacularly different.
All eight first season episodes of “Lilyhammer” will be available on February 6 so Netflix members can enjoy the series by streaming over the Internet to connected TVs, tablets, game consoles, computers and mobile phones.
“Lilyhammer” is a well-observed, funny and occasionally brutal story of culture clash, focused on Stevie’s inimitable portrayal of an East Coast mobster,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. “We’re proud to introduce this terrific Original Series exclusively to our members. If you love the first episode, there is no need to wait until next week, or to set a DVR, to catch the next one.”
“I am very careful with my choices and this project was so exciting to me because of the wonderful writing, the rich characters and the fascinating culture of Norway,” said Steven Van Zandt, Executive Producer. “Netflix is the perfect home for such a unique show.”
“Lilyhammer” was developed by Rubicon TV AS (creator, Anne Bjornstad & Eilif Skodvin). The Writers on the Show include Anne Bjornstad, Eilif Skodvin and Steven Van Zandt. Producers include Trond Berg Nilsen and Agnete Thuland. Executive Producers include Lasse Hallberg & Steven Van Zandt. The series is a production by Rubicon TV AS.

This looks odd enough to be something I really might enjoy! XD
ReplyDeleteI also found a few stills, caps or promo pics:
I'm really excited for this project. Not because of this project in itself, but if it does well others will follow. I love the idea of not having to wait to see an entire season of TV and still not being the last person to watch it.
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
ReplyDeletePlus it's a nice warm up for the Arrested Development Season 4 roll out. They can work out any flaws in the system before AD hits the nets.
Excellent point. Let's face it, the Arrested Development season is a much bigger deal and has more people looking forward to it. I'm glad they won't be testing out the plan on it.
ReplyDeleteRandom, but may be interested.
ReplyDeleteI was in the background during some of the filming of this series. And one of the scenes is filmed near my house so i got also Steven to sign my Sopranos-DVD`s and talk a bit with him. One of the best moments i could ever have as i have been a fan of The Sopranos since i started watching it in 2001. Yes, i am a Norwegian.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a shame is that the series will not air on Norwegian TV, and i will not get a preview DVD of it before there is some breaktrough in the dealings between the production company and the
Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. This because it was made with use of product placement, witch is not allowed when it comes to a series from Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. Because of this the show is in limbo here in Norway, and it was suppose to air 1. january on NRK1.
Awesome to read that!
ReplyDeleteSorry to read that! XD
It must have been great fun for you! I wonder if you will turn up in the background of any of the scenes or were you completely off-camera?
Have to say that product placement fiasco is ridiculous! How annoying! Hopefully it will get worked out and air in its country of origin! At the very least an expedited DVD release!!!
Good luck!
Completely absurd. To my knowledge WitSec doesn't place witnesses outside the US. Also of note, Van Zandt's character is a thinly veiled redux of Silvio Dante. I won't front though...
ReplyDeleteI'd watch this in a heartbeat. :)
It is very exciting to see them filming a show or movie, and to be able to speak with an actor that you like, well surely it is not something you get to experience every day.I am sorry there is such conflict between the two parties, hopefully it will all be worked out sooner rather then later.
ReplyDeleteThat moment in time will be with you always, and remembered fondly...Thank you for sharing that with us.:)
Oh i'm on board for this one,it looks like its going to be a great ride..Who cares if this is plausible or not,its little Stevie paying gangsta in Lilyhammer,ha! Fun to be had,(before the violence),Should be interesting...
