"The Walking Dead" star Jon Bernthal is in early conversations with TNT to star in its period drama pilot "L.A. Noir," shepherded by Frank Darabont.
Sources close to the situation emphasized that discussions have barely begun and there's no certainty a deal will come together. But it would mark a reunion for Bernthal and Darabont, who developed and exec produced the first season of AMC's "Walking Dead" before parting ways with the show last year.
TNT declined comment.
In "L.A. Noir," Bernthal would play Joe Teague, the Los Angeles cop at the center of the show that examines corruption in the LAPD and ties between police and underworld figures in the 1940s and '50s. TNT greenlit the pilot earlier this month. Darabont wrote the script, based on the book by John Buntin, and will helm for TNT Original Prods. Michael De Luca and Elliott Webb exec produce with Darabont.
Bernthal has been riding the momentum from his breakout role on "Walking Dead," in which he co-stars as a small-town sheriff's deputy who becomes a leader of survivors of a zombie apocalypse. The second half of the show's highly successful sophomore season bows Feb. 12.

Definitely sounds like Shane's going to be the one who dies.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't surprise me if they kill off Shane by the end of the season. Some things have been set in motion that made me suspect this. I even think his death could be similar than in the comics.
ReplyDeleteNoooooo I like Shane in TWD is my favorite!!! this is sad.
ReplyDeleteSo he's going to die?
ReplyDeleteMaybe the one Aussiello was talking about? And he's the one who was upset about Darabont's departure and asked to be fired from the show?
I was hoping it'd be Dale. But given the fact that he's doing a new show with Frank Darabont, I think it pretty much confirms that Jon Bernthal is the one who wanted out. Unless killing Shane at the end of Season 2 was always in the cards and someone else wanted out too? Honestly, it does seem like killing Shane is being set up. So, thinking about it, I'm not entirely sure he's also the one who wanted out.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like John Bernthal, so this has kind of lost me some interest in the show
ReplyDeleteI was never that fond of Shane so, if true, I'm cool with this.
ReplyDeleteI just started the Walking Dead,so whoever dies, well that's Hollywood for ya.!
ReplyDeletei think that would suck if they kill shane off but will see
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess this would mean Shane gets killed off on The Walking Dead.
ReplyDeleteUm....do people not consider the possibility that maybe he wants to balance his work on the two shows? I imagine the WD cast has grown to be almost like a family these past two years, so for him to just ditch the show like that is hard for me to believe. Not to mention TWD is the highest rated cable show on television and in all likeliehood will be higher than L.A. Noir (so he'd get more money *and recognition* with TWD than he would with this new show).
ReplyDeleteShane has really made me mad this season, especially with what occurred in the last episode. So with that in mind I really would not mind seeing him exit.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been that fond of Shane's character this season (go figure), and I do know that his character has lasted far longer than it did in the graphic novels so I'm ok with this move if true
ReplyDeleteIt is possible that he's going to do both shows, but in reality it's highly unlikely. Every time something like this happens they always say it's possible and the only time it actually did happen was when Ted Danson got cast in CSI and continued Bored to Death which was then soon cancelled.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it wasn't Bernthal's decision and they killed him off without him wanting out of the show. We don't know what's really going on behind the scenes and probably never will.
This is Elizabeth Mitchell all over again.
ReplyDeletehope he dies like he did in the comics
ReplyDeleteI'm so late to this post lol...but I think it's possible that he may balance both shows. Idk what the shooting schedules would be for both shows so we'd have to see if they coincide with each other, but I just don't think it's a non-possibility. And I mean, come on, the article said EARLY conversations with him, meaning it may not even happen. So I don't think we can really speculate that this even means anything for his character on the show. I still think that it'll be Dale to be the one who dies...or gets written off rather lol.
