Hannibal Lecter TV Series - Status Update
Jan 7, 2012
Pilot ShowsToday at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, I had the chance to briefly ask NBC president Robert Greenblatt about the status of Hannibal, a potential TV series based around the Hannibal Lecter character, focusing on his relationship with Will Graham, the FBI agent destined to find out his secret and capture him. Early reports said NBC was going to go straight to series on the show – which is being written by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls) -- bypassing the pilot stage. Greenblatt confirmed that was the plan, but stressed they hadn't given it the greenlight yet, explaining, "Hannibal is still being written, but it is one of those great international co-production deals where if we want to go forward, it would be an episodic pickup. But we haven't seen the script yet."

um the movie awesome classic a tv version doesnt really translate for me.
ReplyDeletemmh .. the story is set to be told as a prequel ... so, maybe the tv show (although the movie is classic) is going to be very awesome too. Hopefully!
ReplyDeleteeven worse i cant stand prequels...and to make it a series im annoyed. But ill see how it goes b4 i completely dismiss it bc i did love the movie
ReplyDeleteI don't think it s going to work out well.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that makes me optimistic is that Bryan Fuller writes great shows. The thing that makes me pessimistic is Bryan Fuller writes great shows that are cancelled before their time.
ReplyDeleteWith the Thomas Harris' books Red Dragon and the follow-up, The Silence of the Lambs, I thought Lecter's story was told in full. I can't imagine a TV series. But then, I'm not a writer.
ReplyDeleteI think you are right. I've read all of them and with the exception of the time AFTER the book Hannibal Rising and up to the time of Red Dragon (which admittedly is quite a long time chronologically) Lecters story has been covered. While I would not mind something about that time, in his 20s-30s etc, I have the following problems with it.
ReplyDelete1) It would feel too much like trying to cash in on Dexter's thunder with the 'serial killer who assists in catching other killers' vibe they seem to be going for with Will Graham.
2) I would prefer this to be on a cable channel, so at least they can push some boundaries in regards to themes, etc.
3) I am a tad bit foggy on the books, since I havent read them in quite a long time, but I was under the impression that Lecter and Graham's interactions were not over the period of years, which would make this series a bit strange unless it was going the Lost route and condensing years of Real life seasons into basically a few In Series months.
that's what I think, but it's written by Bryan Fuller so I might give it a chance
ReplyDeleteOkay, I think I'm into the ideao of a cop-buddy show where one of the is secretely a murderous serial canibalistic killer, it wouldn't be a rehash of Dexter as much.
