he show’s creator has mapped out plans for the show’s upcoming eighth season finale despite not knowing which members of the original cast will and won’t be back next fall.
“I have figured out how the season is going to end, which was the most complex puzzle I’ve had to put together — ever,” Rhimes tells TVLine. “We have all these moveable pieces of who’s coming back and who’s not, and finally I just decided to focus on what was going to be best creatively for the show and figure out a way to make it work REGARDLESS of what is happening [off screen].”

Really hope everyone stays!
ReplyDeleteAnd nothing will ever be able to top the shooting finale, tbh.
its good that she knows how she wants to end the season, even better that its fluid enough ending to fit what ever may come out of the contract developments.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't care if Meredith and Derek stay. They're reaching the end of their story, with everything falling into place for them. I just hope my bbs Alex and Arizona are coming back. I need Alex to get a good resolution
ReplyDeleteThank you;)
ReplyDeleteMeredith and Derek stopped being interesting to me a long time ago, so I'm not going to be too broken up about it if they leave. They finally got to be happy with Zola, so let's leave them behind and move on. There's a new Grey in town, and I like her a lot more than I ever liked her sister! I'm much more interested in where they're going to take Alex, the poor guy, and what's going to happen with Lexie and Mark.
ReplyDeleteThe woman has guts! We must grant her that and hope for the best!!!
ReplyDeleteAlex is my favorite character. I really need him to get a big storyline!
ReplyDeleteI like MerDer, but if they leave, there is more time to focus on the other characters. There are so many chars with potential. So it will be okay for me.But however i am excited how Shonda will manage the end of the season
ReplyDeletewhatever is written i know it will be good!!! i hope they all come back for season 9!!!
ReplyDeletePatrick & Ellen are probably leaving. It's been obvious for seasons now that Shonda Rhimes has been bored with them. And their story has been dragged a lot. They are married they have Zola, their house is being built ...
ReplyDeleteWhat bothers me the most is the way Shonda Rhimes treats the show .She gives crappy to mediocre apisodes and then she plans this huge ending-of-the-season episodes (where I usually cry for hours and hours) just to get us back every season!
If ER thaught me anything, is that the cast is replaceable.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I love Meredith and Derek, but they have reached that point of the story where they are ready to move on now they have Zola. The three of them can ride happily into the sunset, since we still have another Gray :D
I have really liked this season, it's funny because after season 5 I thought this show had become shit, but is good again!
I like the format, the humor in the show, so even if the cast changes, I'd like to see it for a long time on air.
I am also of the belief that this show can carry on without Meredith and / or Derek.
ReplyDeleteI love MerDer but wouldn't really miss them if they left.
ReplyDeletei don't think that it could carry on without Meredith, but i heard that Patrick Dempsey won't be starring in whole season 9
ReplyDeleteThe latest episode basically reminded me of how the show just cannot
ReplyDeletework without Meredith, Cristina, Alex and Derek. We need these people
back! Hope the negotiations come through!
No Ellen, no Greys, that is pretty simple to me! It is just like One Tree Hill I stopped watching it after Lucas and Peyton left and I will do the same with Greys if Ellen leaves!
ReplyDeleteMeredith is the only character that makes really interested and addicted to the show! And Lexie being the lead is just crap, Lexie is not half the character that Mer is, Ellen Pompeo rocks! And if she leaves it will all be mainly about Calzona and Mark and Lexie stupid love triangles, which I am so sick of. I also love Patrick, but Ellen is the rock and without her the show will sink. Hope she stays or I will have more 45 minutes free each week.
Don't want to be too harsh but reading those comments about Meredith not being anymore needed in the show really messes with my head, I am super fan of Ellen!
i agree with you! they HAVE to come back! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is true... but at least I'll hopefully be able to watch this finale a 2nd time unlike the shooting finale. I still can't stomach that... it hurts too much.
ReplyDeleteI'm of the same opinion at the moment. I want him to be in it every now and then but I'm still gonna say the show WONT be as great without Meredith Grey. Even this last episode... seriously... she was holding the whole thing and made it that much better. Without her it's just pointless... that said I will miss Derek not being there :( I hope he takes the Stay at home parent route and is in a few episodes then they end the series after season 9.
ReplyDeleteI agree. As long as Meredith, Derek, Christina and Alex are back it will still be great. Don't really care about Lexie or Callie or Teddy.
ReplyDeleteI would be okay if Ellen renewed but if Patrick didn't I wouldn't be too broken up. Nothing against him, because I quite like him but the character of Derek, I'm not too fond of. And normally in a situation like this, I would say I'd be okay if either one stayed and the other left but in this case, it would have to be Meredith staying and Derek leaving if only one of them were to stay. I say this because it seems like Meredith is finally getting her happy ending, and if her husband dies and leaves her with this dream house and as a single mom, it could potentially have Meredith spiral back down to a dark place. Or she tries to act like everything is okay for the sake of her child but then she slowly has a breakdown or something. It could have some good possibilities. It would be fine seeing Derek go through that on the flip side, except the show is called Grey's Anatomy for a reason. Derek could leave this season, Meredith could have a rocky Season 9 (but have a happy resolution) but have that be her final season because being in Seattle and at Seattle Grace has become too much for her, so she moves to have a fresh start with her daughter. In season 9 they could prep Lexie to be the new Grey for Season 10 (if it gets to that point) and also bring in some fresh interns and get back to how they did things in the first few seasons, have a god balance on the medical aspects as well as the personal relationships aspect. And as for Izzie ever coming back (I keep reading about that in places) I don't think it would work if she only came back for an episode or two. If Izzie were to come back I'd like it to at least be for a whole season, if not longer just because a one off appearance wouldn't work for her. It works for Addison, but I don't think it would work for Izzie. And no matter what happens, I REALLY hope Alex, Bailey and Cristina come back! Those three plus Callie, Lexie and Mark are my favorites (well, plus Meredith). I just wish my absolute favorite George was still around :\
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if they all stayed,i would love to see Alex come into his own!
ReplyDeleteEveryone saying Lexi is the "NEW" grey is making me sick to the stomach. Sorry Chyler but you have nothing on Ellen. It was totally proved in the last episode Meredith was the rock that held everything together, she is the best resident at SGMW. Still believe we will see Meredith Grey/Shepherd as chief resident before season's end.
ReplyDeleteAs for Patrick leaving, I will be gutted if he goes totally or they kill him off. Don't think that will occur though i will prey he is back fulltime come on he needs to fund his motor racing some how lol. Otherwise the stay at home dad could be an interesting angle and we see him every now and then could work.
I hope they all stay one more year so things can wrap up
ReplyDeleteMer and Der can go. I would fine with that as well.
ReplyDeleteSo true. The 6th season finale brought the show back to good again. It's still two of the most intense hours I have ever watched.
ReplyDeleteAlso, yes. I can do without Mer and Der.
