The festive season is over, you’ve eaten too many mince pies, over dosed on martinis and you’ve finally gotten rid of the dodgy relatives. Hiatus is over and life has returned to normal because Grey’s is back. Well it’s not normal for our favourite doctors of course. We left them mid-drama, hearts breaking and in trouble. The second part of the mid season double header proved to be a highly watchable episode and worth the wait. It improved on 809 “Dark is the Night” (in fact it was noticeably better), gave us some important answers and was a brilliant portal to provide us with pitch perfect performances by the cast.
Those performances led of course by the wonderful Sandra Oh, who never fails to deliver a star quality performance. Seriously, never fails. Cristina was left in an impossible yet deeply unfair situation. Who amongst us could be so strong minded to operate under those circumstances? We know April wasn’t. But Cristina is a profound mix of steely cold exterior and immense yet highly complicated warmth. She could, because she can operate with a gun to her head if needed. Oh produced a first class performance switching effortlessly between anger, frivolity, dead pan severity, compassion and pain. It’s time she was recognised for this. However it would be remiss not to mention the strength of performance from Kim Raver as Teddy, whose playful attitude towards tiredness through a long surgery was complimented by her heart breaking as she discovers the love of her life has died. And the moment when she carefully takes off her scrub cap and places it neatly on the table was a beautiful and sensitive piece of direction.
It is apparent now that the writing for this working partnership just gets better and better as their mentor/mentee relationship is explored and deepened and the two actresses play off one another as each other’s foil. I look forward to the fall out of this immensely, especially when we consider Owen’s unintentionally destructive role. Grey’s likes it’s triad relationships, I can’t help but feel, with these brilliant performances from Oh and Raver, this will be an interesting one in the coming episodes.
Ellen Pompeo was also on form, as Meredith worked her ass off not only to save a family but also to comfort the now orphaned child/adult Lily. To lose a parent is devastating, particularly at such a young age. But to watch one parent, then a second parent die in front of you is an incalculable loss. This story was perhaps the most honest ‘patient’ story Grey’s has given us in a while. When the viewer is given enough by the producers to really feel stories, they’ve done an excellent job. Yes, Grey’s is about sex and surgery, but it’s also about the myriad of heartbreaking, uplifting and often complex stories of it’s patients. And this is a fine example. Having experienced a nasty accident, and coming to the rescue of the victims Meredith fights for this family as if it were her own and Meredith comes into her own, being an excellent doctor, and empathising with her patient and her family without over-sentimentality. And the sheer strength of this ‘patient’ story is further magnified when compared to the rather shallow ‘mistake’ arc.
The emotional volcano of feeling the viewer experienced with Lily dwarfed whatever the viewer may have felt for “spinal mistake lady” (whose name I did not pick up and could not be bothered to research, which is in itself a sign of plot weakness). This particular plot merely deteriorated the moment Avery opened his mouth and started speaking. I am bewildered by the motivation and the execution of it. To treat such a serious error of judgement by a character as a tactical tool to tell the story of others’ is flippant and cynical. To treat it so superficially as the start of a longer story arc for either Callie or Jackson is disrespectful to the characters and actors. The worst part of it was the conversation between Callie and Owen. Where Callie at least holds herself accountable for the error made by her resident, Owen fails to be accountable for his actions on an epic level. He is dictated to by his cardio thoracic surgeon and allows himself to be bullied into forcing Cristina to operate. We know, from the previous episode, that whilst the other cardio specialists might not be as good as Teddy, they do exist and presumably do a reasonable job. Why on earth did he not bring one of them into surgery and over-rule Teddy. He then accuses Callie of being the cause of the situation. The man has no backbone and is not a chief. The sooner this farcical appointment is reversed the better. I’m starting a twitter trend #bringbackchiefwebber. Join me. Time will tell what this story proves to be, and if it’s the start of something for Callie or Jackson then I hope they introduce depth to it pretty damn quickly.
Stacy McKee, the writer for this episode is a mass of contradictions. Often given the ‘special’ episodes to write, where the risk of failure is much higher, she scored a massive fail with 804, “All About Men”. Here, handed with a mix of brilliant (e.g. Cristina/Teddy/Henry) and dire stories (e.g. Callie/Avery) stories to continue she wrote “Suddenly” with sensitivity and truthfulness. And, unlike “All About Men” cliché free.
But if there is a major ‘continuity’ flaw in the story telling then it is surely the adoption tale. Given that the show runner herself has such direct experience with adoption I am continually amazed at the light touch approach she shows to the actual adoption process. Don’t get me wrong, I like a happy ending and I love the fact that Zola is back where she belongs. However becoming an adoptive parent is a long, intrusive process. The potential parent’s life is pulled apart, dissected and interrogated. I saw little of this for Meredith and Derek. (And I saw even less for Addison in Private Practice – but best not to start on that here!). The viewers must absolutely get a credible explanation for the return of Zola quickly. Although this development has prompted one thought in my head - if I were a betting woman I would say that Meredith will be pregnant by the end of the season.
McKee comes into her own though by writing a complete episode for characters. She does not leave any lacking, which means this episode was full of little gems for those characters on the fringes of the big stories.
Having suffered his own trauma with the ambulance collision Alex becomes agitated through a delayed reaction to the accident. The beauty of this miniature plot provided the opportunity for his own mentor to ‘get his back’. Arizona steps in to help him deal with his manic episode, taking control compassionately yet firmly. And of course this is a direct homage to the reverse situation back in 718, when an injured Arizona was almost abandoned in her colleagues’ efforts to save Callie. This week we saw the heart and passion beating within Alex. And so did his boss. (I think I’ll start another hashtag #givealexthefellowshiparizona!). It was a shame however, that she was surgically absent. Given that two children were in surgery in the episode I was disappointed we didn’t see more of our paediatric super hero in action.
Another gem – Bailey and Ben in the cafeteria. I am still waiting for a full on Bailey story this season. Chandra Wilson continues to be under-used, but I have hopes for a romance that will not only finally stick but will be developed on screen and not off.
Mark’s romance has unsettled Lexie. Having illustrated her frustration at the situation she finds herself in by hurling a soft ball at her opponent she now comes face to face with her at work. And adding insult to injury, it turns out that Mark’s new girlfriend, Julia, is a nice person. With brilliant comic timing Chyler Leigh bounces off the situation with warm humour (golden moment answering Meredith’s question of ‘how’s she doing’), concluding, with irritation only aimed at herself “dammit...now I like her”
“Suddenly” provided enough entertainment, drama and heart ache to break the hiatus blues, with performances worthy of recognition and continued reassurance that Season 8 is shaping up very nicely indeed.
Moments worthy of mention...
“It’s ok. I can handle it”
My favourite scene of the entire episode may surprise you. It is a seemingly small moment for a relatively minor regular cast member in a huge emotional episode but it reminds us all of another story which is still unfolding slowly. April Kepner comes face to face with herself as she watches like a gargoyle, Cristina tear her up. We are left not knowing whether Cristina knows she’s been heard but we do know that Kepner listened. This is my favourite 30 seconds of the episode because with one facial expression we see April vulnerable, in pain and uncharacteristically very calm. I enjoy April’s character a great deal and am very much looking forward to how the writers unravel her insecurities and fears.
“Derek....isn’t that our baby?”
OK, so I don’t like how it happened but seriously who doesn’t like Derek in these moments. I forgive Patrick Dempsey his off screen will I won’t I ‘diva-ness’ (yes, he’s being a diva) and shout “give the man the money, as much money as he wants to return to our screens and hug baby Zola in every single episode of S9”.

Girlie moment - rewind to the unstable pelvis patient - I just love Callie's hair
Screen caps not available yet (although I made my own of Derek, don't ask me to do that too often, I am not technically gifted enough to do it quickly!)

Pretty dead on assessment
ReplyDeleteThanks!! Was a great episode, where we could feel sad and happy all together...loved the accident plot whit the, now, orphans children, also the Cristina/Teddy/Henry story...Miss a little bit of, perhaps, continuation on Calie and Jackson story...and miss Arizona in surgeries...Sandra Oh was perfect...the end was perfect and...yes, I also liked Calie's hair.
ReplyDeletehey look at that we didn't have to wait 2 months for a review, i guess you felt inspired by the episode lol j/k
ReplyDeleteAs usual my friend you speak the very same words in my head. However, I must say I'm fine with the way the adoption storyline panned out only b/c as a tv show certain things just need to be wrapped up w/o the extensive delving into such as an adoption. I dont believe fully delving into the technical part of the adoption process would be beneficial to the story. It would weaken the story b/c very few would be entertained by the process. In its on way I think Grey's gave lil glimpses into the difficulty in adoption at the very least the minor speed bumps they put in Mer/Der way.
I must agree the scene with Cristina joking about April was a very good scene, while it wasnt my fav in the episode, it definitely spoke volumes. April's reaction definitely made me like her a lil bit more, b/c for once she wasnt the annoying Keppner we all know. She was human and hurt and we felt all of that in her facial expression, it was golden.
My fav scene was Cristina telling Teddy- b/c Cristina had to be a robot in order to tell Teddy her husband was dead. It reminded me of old Cristina a lil when we saw no emotions from her. But the beauty about this scene was while she was still Robot Cristina we saw in her eyes how difficult and painful that was for her to do Sandra Oh was brilliant yet again. Teddy's reaction was so honest and appropriate for that scene, my heart cried for those two.
Owen on the other hand further showed how he is not capable of being the chief, he lashes out at Callie but takes no ownership of his failure in short comings wih the Teddy/Henry situation (totally agree w/ u there). He is clearly not emotionally or mentally fit to be the Chief. Owen has a difficult time separating the professional from the personal. That can prove to be disaster.
Yay the spinal chick survived and Callie takes the blame I hope we don't have to endure any more talks about this case. Unfortunately I think we will but I hope it will be quick.
I must say I didn't even think about the fact that the kids from the crash were not being worked on by Arizona. But I will argue it was b/c they were trauma patients and everyone else was picking up the slack. But I would argue to say her lack of presence was b/c she was dealing with the newborn from the other hospital. Just like you said their were plenty of Cardio Doctors that could have performed the surgery Teddy was working,, im sure the same would reign true for the peds department.
oh p.s. I love the hashtag ideas im all about them lets get them trending next week!!!
ReplyDeleteYou my dear are a very cheeky mare!
ReplyDeleteIf it was one story then perhaps I can forgive them a poor adoption story. But I watched PP as well and again the process is treated so superficially. At least in PP Addison's infertility is handled very well, unlike Merediths.
Anyway. thanks for your comments lovely! Agree with your comments re. Arizona not working on the kids due to other in hand with other doctors. I assumed this so didn't elaborate. Plus I imagine she will play a large part in the twins story next week.
In all I enjoyed the episode much more than the previous.
ha ha! Well, if I thought SR would pay any attention then I'd say go for it. Sadly I don't think she would.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I also missed a lot of detail from the callie/jackson story but I think the less I get on that going forward the better!
ReplyDeletevery true...but u never know until you try lol
ReplyDeletei promise nxt review i wont comment about the length of time it takes you to write. lol ok well at least ill try not haha
ReplyDeleteI think w/ the adoption storyline for both series they are just tryin to highlight more of the prevalent possibilities with the process and trying to avoid getting into the weeds, b/c its so complex and exhausting.
Great review - my heart broke for Cristina in this episode, and Sandra Oh truly did a beautiful job. I also felt for April, who I think has come a long way since she started on the show. She still has her moments of spazzy regression, but watching her sit silently, taking all that Cristina was dishing out, was pretty powerful. Maybe she just understood that it was what Cristina needed to get through an impossible task, but I thought she was incredibly strong.
ReplyDeleteGreat review, but with all the talk about it over the last few days left me draind and numb
ReplyDeletethanks! I stay away from the talk as much as possible. Keeps it fresh!
ReplyDeleteOne reason why I liked the april moment is because she gets so little opportunity to have these moments. Sandra Oh does an outstanding job, but she gets the material. Sara Drew rarely gets the opportunity so when it comes I enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteGreat!!! super quick review! I'm glad this episode inspired you so much ;-)
ReplyDeleteI found it intense sad heartbreaking but full of warm and compassion and the outstanding perforances coming from the incredible Sandra Oh (I made a standing ovation for her by myself at 4 am in the morning) and Kim Raver really cut my heart. Of course I wanna add Ellen Pompeo too, really this season I do love her and Meredith and this believe me is a miracle!!! she is an adult, and a wonderful one!
I'm still really sick about the Callie/Avery "thing" I hope with this episode they ended this thing (I can't even name it). I don't want even mention the Owen absurde reprimend to my Callie just a low arc in a beautiful couple episodes. I have a bad opinion about Owen, he as a chief is a shell of the previous character. When I was blaming and yelling to her I would have killed him. Ok I know, maybe is my problem because I become very emotional when it comes to
Callie because I adore her and I share with you the girly moment and her
basass-ness when she was stabilizing the patient!
I will be very glad to join the twitter trend #bringbackchiefwebber even if I have to underline that Chief Webber not only was agree with the Owen about the decision to not talk to Teddy about Henry but also he even conviced him was the best thing to do, think just to patient arguing with a flustered/upsed Bailey.
About Arizona/Alex, even if things are getting better medically between the two, I still have the awkward feeling that writers tend to play Alex badass hardcore caring peds at the Arizona's outstanding skills expenses (in season 6 was much more evident and worse but still...) but I like anyway their relationship and I'm ok with Alex fellowship with her.
I'm sorry I'm not so glad about the Bailey/Ben arc, I'm still firmly a Eli team member I was way to long a better character than this Ben who is acting like a mushy puppy with that eyes full of himself really make me shiver in a very wrong way. Even Bailey is less Bailey with him. I can't help but be not supportive at all about them.
Mark/Jessica/Lexie -----> another threesome for Mark same thing just different faces....but I'm with Lexie at this point I like Jessica (even if she will be not in the picture for so long if Marc will be together with Lexie sooner or later). I think Marc/Lexie are on hold pending the decision if Lexie will be the next Grey for Grey's Anatomy if Meredith will be part-time (depence on the number of appearance agreed with the new contract for season 9).
I found incredibly funny Cristina imitating so well April's perky attitude-voice and April reaction has been fantastic. My love for her is growing episode by episode.
Zola: the baby comes back in the picture, they surpriced me, very sweet scene and I'm happy of course, but does that means Ellen Pompeo and Patrick-diva-Dempsey signed the contract?
Special mention for the OST - Snow Patrol New York song choise at the end of the episode has been beyong amazing.
That is a good idea, and i will keep it in mind.well when i do get my mind back.Right now it is stuffed with random words all jumbled together. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for another insightful review as oppose to the redundant recaps "out there"...inspiration is indeed a great motivator... this episode exceeds all my expectations...it was truly magnificent...
ReplyDeletefrom Sandra Oh to Kim Raver (I knew she had it in her) and the young female actor playing Lily OMG..I looked it up Stella Maeve..
the writing was remarkable...no rambling no speeches just short and straight to the point... Yang to Owen "...I am done... I don't want to hear it... and neither will she..." AND NEITHER DO I...it's not looking good for Owen...closure with "the mistake"...so don't care about Avery... I hope they hang to this director (Ron Underwood..yes I looked it up) it was flawless with great affective close up shots. I liked that you mention the April moment and pretty much everything you said (...agreeable yet again...). Ok I will disagree with giving $$$$ to "McDempsey"...let him join the rank of KH and see how he does.
I miss your "screen caps" with the clever captions "it's a plastic doll Meredith"....ahahahaha
Callie's hair..you're funny..put that in your caption...swoon...!!!!
PS I see Lara Croft is back...awesome...I hear NFL playoff on the tele..got a go...
Thanks for your comments!
ReplyDeleteAlex/Arizona - Sorry ;-) I don't share your cynicism about this pair. Arizona was clearly in control in the end, she sees how passionate Alex is.
Re: Mark/Julia/Lexie - Grey's does everything in 3's. So it's no surprise that this is happening. I love Lexie's behaviour though, comical!
No idea if PD signed the contract, and despite my comments I'm not worried either way. What will be will be!
Thanks for your comments! Ha ha! sorry that you disagree with me about Dempsey. Actually I don't care if he stays or goes. I've always loved MerDer and PD but Im tired of the will I won't I in the media. However when I see him as he is in the last scene and with Zola I hope he stays!
ReplyDeleteLara is back, but Ab Fab may well return!
Wild card Saturday!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBengals and Saints!!!!!!!!!!!
Good review. Totally agree about Owen. I could not believe he yelled at Callie after all the stupid shit he's pulled. Honestly, the Chief storyline would be so much better if it were Mark, then they could show mistakes and growth and have that be a way to get him back to Lexie. This Owen thing just feels so mishandled.
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I never really thought about Mark being chief. That would be quite funny. I expect if Grey's goes on for a couple more seasons we'll see them all have have a go at the job. The person who I think should really be chief is Avery's mother. Dr Catherine Avery. Now THAT would really be fun!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, brouhaha! and... your reviews are the best! I am not on Twitter, but if you start any of those trends I might consider joining ;-) About Stacey McKee. She is also the writer of the Elevator-love-letter episode in S5, which is definitely one of my top 3 on tv ever. But I fully agree with you on what you say about her writing. Last but not least isn't it time indeed that they gave Sandra Oh that Emmy?!
ReplyDeleteThanks Emma! I like Stacy McKee, she also wrote one of my favourites which was Invest In love in S6. I also loved Golden Hour. She's a very good writer but Shonda keeps giving her the specials to write so she got landed with These arms of mine (documentary) and the mens only episode. Both of those were complete fails in my book. And also White Wedding which was a disaster simply because she had too much story to write in the episode.
ReplyDeleteOh deserves an emmy. But will she ever get one?
Spot on! I agree with everything you wrote there (the Private Practice mention and Arizona abandonment in 718 especially)
ReplyDeleteI think you need another hashtag though: #sandraohforeveryawardgoing . why she doesn't get the recognition she deserves is ridiculous!
And yes Lexie is genius! Jessica may be likeable but its just another stop gap. I am a major Sexie shipper and am getting really bored of waiting now, I was kind of hoping now that Jackson chose to walk away to work with the frienemy that this would be a way back. Seems I am still waiting!!! Oops. Sorry I've turned this into another rant about my favourite ship...
Anyway, I reiterate everything you said and cannot wait for next week to see the fallout particuluarly from Owen and Teddy! That man is... anything but! #bringbackchiefwebber :)
ps. they're trying with the hash tags
ReplyDeleteThanks! I too am a big slexie fan but I'm not so optimistic that the show writers want them together. I was clear from the start they wanted MerDer together and Callie/Arizona, but Mark and Lexie, I'm not so sure.
ReplyDeletePatrick is certainly not a diva. In an interview of him on Friday, the 6th, when asked the question about his final days at Grey's, he stated that they were negotiating, that if he could get the time off for racing, then he probably would be back at Grey's. He stated his passion is racing and Grey's was a good job, he appreciated it and it kept him at home and close to his family. He has previous stated it was not about the money. Just had to clarify. His interview is on You Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WVDX-JZcYk&feature=youtu.be&a
ReplyDeleteI refer to him as a diva because of his constant ambiguous less than positive comments in the media. All the other cast members whose contracts are up for renewal keep their mouths shut and get on with their job and their negotiation. PD (and/or his representatives) has consistently drip fed comments which I don't think endear him to the fans. His interview this week (which I saw only after I wrote the piece) finally lays clear his motivations. But I'm afraid he still wants to have his cake and eat it. He wants the money from Grey's to fund his racing. Money he cannot secure in films. To say its not about the money is completely misleading. It is very much about the money because his alternate career is enormously expensive. He wants the time from the Grey's schedule to put to his racing. Time he cannot secure in films. To be honest I've no interest in his personal life or in what he does away from Grey's. I just want to know if he's signed or not. I have read many many MerDer fans complaining about his lack of screen time and it finally is clear that this is very much driven by HIS off screen commitments. I have always always been a big fan of Meredith and Derek, I'm actually a big fan of PD himself, so it would be really nice if he stayed, but I am also a fan of the ensemble cast and many of the other characters so I'll be happy either way.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the review. As always it's a great one. Sandra Oh, Kim Raver and Ellen Pompeo were all brilliant. The scene where Christina tells Teddy was just fantastic and both actresses knocked it out of the park. And the scene with Teddy and Henry's body was heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteWebber needs to be chief again. I've been indifferent to Owen so far but these last two eps have lowered my opinion of him a lot. Watching him be so high and mighty with Callie, all the while failing to tell Teddy of her husband's death and putting Christina in such an awkward situation was difficult to stomach.
The Mark/Lexie/Julia triangle is just a little tiresome to me. I know it's typical Grey's but it's just annoying. So far, Mark's gf has made little impact on me and I had to read your review to remind myself of her name. Fingers crossed it won't be dragged out for too long. Having said that - I did love Chyler Leigh in her scenes - she's adorable.
Callie/Avery - boring storyline.
I'm so glad you mentioned Kepner's scene. It was such an awkward scene and we could see how much April was affected by it. I know Sarah Drew is pregnant so her screentime could be decreasing but I hope we see some more quality scenes with her. She's far more interesting than Avery.
I never really expected the adoption storyline to be that realistic. Even making the decision to adopt Zola seemed rushed to me. But I was happy to see Mer/Der get Zola back if only for the smile it put on Meredith's face. It's not often that we see Meredith that happy.
Thanks again for the review. Keep them coming!
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI had to google Julia's name to be honest. Completely agree with Chyler Leigh. She has such comic timing!
Kepner has always had more depth than Avery. The scene when she faces the shooter confirmed that. What's great is that Sarah Drew can deliver when needed, she just doesn't get the opportunities. Oh is just wonderful, but to be fair she also gets the material. I love watching her but love to see the other's getting the opportunity.
Thanks for your comments. We do disagree. But I like the discussion and banter. Although your interpretation of what he says is not the only interpretation. We neither of us know exactly what's going on. But I know very well how expensive his alternate career is. Serious money is involved. Big money blockbuster movie kind of money.
ReplyDeleteI understand that you like the originals and believe the cast is too big. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I love that this show is ensemble. It makes it more interesting and multi-dimensional. I believe it's been an ensemble show from series 2. I never liked Izzie's character. And I found George tolerable only until end of Season 3. On the other side, of the newbies, I think April has enormous potential. Sarah Drew is very talented and completely under-used, as is Lexie/Chyler Leigh. I loved the Teddy/Henry/Cristina dynamic. Yet I think Avery is a waste of screen time and Owen is deeply unpleasant. I believe Callie and Arizona are as critical to the success of this show as Meredith, Derek and Cristina. So I don't have such a black and white opinion on new v old characters.
I don't count screen time, ever. Really. I follow stories and characters and the web they all weave.
Of course. It's always possible that I'm wrong. ;-)
Looved your review, bit i di sagree about something you just wrote... Izzie was by far one of the best characters, Grey's Anatomy could ever have! i miss her so much :( it'll be gret if she ever comes back... And yeah Patrick's being a Diva, totally agree with that, but i really think everyone will be back next season ( Dempsey for a limited number of episodes) and they are just playing with us to keep alert on what's happening...
ReplyDeleteOK, we will never agree. Just how expensive is his alternate career? Sarah Drew may be talented, but her character is peripheral to the show and she and Lexie are so much alike, it's hard to tell them apart. Both seem to stutter and/or cry in almost every episode and if the stuttering is supposed to be more dark humor, it's not funny. Lexie adds nothing. At one point the sister dynamic with Mer was developing and was nice to see, but that hasn't happened in a while. In fact when Chyler was absent from a few episodes, she wasn't even missed until someone commented later on Twitter. She has regressed and is now even more immature than she was previously. I strongly disagree that Callie & AZ are as critical to the success of the show as Meredith & Derek. As I stated previously, the May sweeps were the lowest rated episodes ever for Grey's and Calzona's wedding was aired during sweeps. Generally, weddings are very popular for viewership. Episode 8.10 had 10.5 million viewers and at the end after the last scene aired, Meredith and Derek and Zola were trending on Twitter, spontaneously. So certainly Calzona are not as critical to the show as Meredith and Derek. OK, I'm done

I have to agree with you about April and Lexie. But, I am going to have to disagree with you about Callie & Arizona. I do think that are extremely critical to the show's success. A lot more than I think people realize. I personally hate it when I see people write and say "see, look at the ratings for when the spotlight was on Callie & Az. The ratings sucked." To me it was more the fact that it was the story line and how bad the writing was in general that had more to do with the bad ratings and not the couple itself. I remember a lot of blogs were I constantly read Calzona fans were livid with what was going on in regards to Callie/Arizona/Mark. And MerDer fans mad about the amount of time given to Mer & Der. I personally had to stop watching towards the end of the season because of how ridiculous Calzona was treated. One could even argue that the reason the ratings were so low was because Calzona fans were not happy at all. (Not saying it's true but I think it is a possibility). I mean just imagine the story lines were reversed and MerDer was actually the couple stuck with Mark getting Mer pregnant. I don't think that a lot of people would want to stick around to watch that. Especially if it is horribly written. The ratings were much higher in this previous episode because it was written better. Something to consider is, if Calzona aren't that critical why does it seem like the writers are going down a checklist of what Calzona fans want (more or less)?
ReplyDelete8.10 got 12.04 million viewers, not 10....
