Is the end of Gossip Girl near? If so, which couples will end up together?

These are the questions we asked Gossip Girl executive producer Josh Safran when we caught up with him...and some of his answers may surprise you. Aside from the future of the series and endgame chit-chat, we also talked to Safran about the highly anticipated 100th episode and what longtime fans can expect from the milestone hour.

  1. If the ratings don't improve, Gossip Girl won't make it to season six.  The series just recently returned to a new series low rating.  It's probably going to drag Hart of Dixie down with it too.

  2. i think the good international numbers will get it a final season

  3. GG gets good int'l numbers?  I must be out of the loop.  I thought the show tanked in the UK.

  4. I think it does okay in Canada. At least it was doing fine the last time I checked.

  5.  GG's ratings have pretty much dropped everywhere, in the US, it's not doing really well even by CW standards and it might drop like the other shows on the CW have been doing.

  6. Thanks!  I can't see this show surviving much longer.. it's been trying to keep its head above water for a while now.

  7. I must admit im a bit fed up with it, how many more bogus ways can they come up with to keep Blair and Chuck apart?

  8. I think The CW will give it a final season. The first two seasons of Gossip Girl did for the CW what Vampire Diaries does for the CW now, so I don't think that will go unrecognized by the network. Also, they've continuously given One Tree Hill a renewal despite low ratings and being on the bubble almost every season for the past few years, so I don't see why they wouldn't do the same for GG. Besides, GG knows they want one final season, OTH never knew when they wanted to end; they just kept going with no endgame in mind. I haven't heard enough rumors this year for me to believe a GG cancellation. I think that next year it should just be a 13 episode final season rather that a full 22 episode season.

  9. whats SS? if you mean Secret Circle highly unlikely it is a safe bet for renewal and will defintly get a season 2 same thing with Hart of Dixie its numbers are really good for CW Standards where it is averaging this year ringer, 90210 and Nikita are still in question though here's how i see it going

    Renewed:

    Gossip Girl (Final Season)
    Hart of Dixie
    90210
    Vampire Diaries
    Secret Circle
    Supernatural

    Cancelled

    Nikita
    One Tree Hill
    Remodeled
    ringer

  10. how do you know how GG does in Canada i am never able to find Canadian ratings for Gossip Girl, Supernatural, vampire Diaries or Secret Circle

  11. well 90210 is doing just as bad and The CW as a whole has plunged to new lows this year including supernatural and 90210 is doing just as bad

  12. One Tree Hill's ratings has always been high for CW standards except for The 2nd half of season 8 and this season premiere improved 29% in A18-49 over the season 8 finale

  13. i agree but with The Wat they keep finding ways for Chair to be apart i dont think Chair will be Endgame anymore i think Blair will end up with Dan :(

  14. Ahh, just what I thought. We were talking about this on another board and I think we are in agreement that this show should end.

  15. I read it a while ago, don't remember where. Sorry :)

  16. Everything I said still stands. One Tree Hill has always been on the bubble renewal wise and even aside from One Tree Hill, The CW still owes a lot to Gossip Girl for it's early popularity. Also, The CW is in bed with Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage. I doubt thy will want to sour their relationship by cancelling a show with history on their network.

  17. One Tree Hill is in its final season already, so we know it won't be on for another season.

  18. Please don´t say that. Chair has to be the end game. I can´t imagine Blair with another man. I hope you continue shipping Chair no matter what. Chair fans have to join together to make Safran understand that we want chair as the end game. If the don´t end up together this will be the worst show I have ever seen.

  19. I think this is a real possibility, and also one I hope for. I need for GG to get at least one more seaason to reach a nice ending for all of the characters.

OTH is ending, and it was about time. I can live without Nikita and Ringer, and I have never seen Remodeled.

The rest of them I really like watching (well, maybe not 90210, THAT much)

  20. It's like this, they really want to end GG (the network as well as Josh & Stephanie), they want to start fresh and The Carrie Diaries could be their new flagship show...
They have ruined this show completely!
They should have had an end game since season three (after all that's when the truly horrible ratings started happening).
They have been writing this bat guano and I am tired of it, I have tuned out previously and I plan on doing so again, I am over it...
I am done with the CW from Sunday nights - Wednesday nights for here on out.
I guess they don't realize that GG ratings don't grow... that they need to appease their fans in order to retain them...
After "End of the Affair?" I felt like they didn't give a f--- about us fans, they didn't explain anything, it was all just like, this is what we are giving you accept or not, and the final thing that drove me over the edge, Serena, being the voice of reason. SERENA? Really?
This episode was almost as disappointing and lack luster as the last.
This is just one girl's opinion. Feel free to disagree.
