25 Jan 2012

Here's a list of International retailers that will be selling the alternate Game of thrones BD/ DVD covers. I know many SpoilerTV readers are from outside of the US so I thought some of you may want these incredibly cool covers!

Netherlands: e-retailer Bol.com

Brazil: e-retailer Submariono.com.br

Germany: All retailers will be selling the sleeves

Spain: El Corte Inglés will offer the Stark sleeve and FNAC will have the Targaryen sleeve

Australia: Sanity

UK: HMV will offer the Stark sleeve

Source: Winter-is-Coming

Of course these covers are available at BestBuy in the US.
Stark BD and DVD.
Targaryen BD and DVD.

  1. Nice of HBO to provide this list to WiC since I'm sure some fans prefer these over the black Ned Stark cover.

  8. Yeah HMV can be overpriced at times but it seems £27.99 is the going price for the boxset over here.

  15. These covers are more than cool, they're friggin orgasmic. I want to make love to these covers.

I didn't know there were going to be special covers, and that FNAC was going to have the Targaryen sleeve - they won't have the Stark sleeve (if they don't, it looks like they chose their side) ?

Darque, here's the direct link to FNAC's Targaryen edition (no visual yet, but that must be it since there's already a visual for the regular BD version) : http://video.fnac.com/a4038687/Game-of-Thrones-Le-Trone-de-Fer-Coffret-integral-de-la-Saison-1-Blu-Ray-Edition-Speciale-Fnac-Lena-Headey-Blu-Ray (btw, I just had a déjà vu moment when I was copying the link to post it in this message, always creeps me out *_*).

I, like everyone else, is often picking on la FNAC (nicknamed la RNAC — it sounds like arnaque, meaning scam) because of their outrageous prices (don't look for discouts there, you pay full price and sometimes even more), but they do have great special, limited and/or exclusive editions (they can afford to give us that, given the extra money they make compared to other retailers).

I'm very proud of my Inception dream machine I got there (http://img.filmsactu.net/datas/dvd/i/n/inception-dream-machine/xl/4c9b178a95b3a.jpg ). I know it was produced in several countries, but FNAC's version was objectively the best : for 49.99€ you get the 3 disc DVD/Blu-ray steelbook + an exclusive DVD bonus + the spinning top + the CD of the soundtrack + the Cobol mission comic-book + the official press release + the PASIV user manual + 2 posters + 7 movie art-cards, and the suitcase is classier (no big Inception written all over it, it's just in the right top corner alongside the number of the machine (don't look for suitcase #2152 on eBay, it's right here with me). There was only a handful of them, only 5000 machines across the country, most of them pre-ordered and I was told there were 100 of them at Rennes' FNAC. I rushed there right after class, on December 3, 2010 at 12:30pm, and there were only 3 machines left. Oh joy, I got to have one of them. Sold out in 5 hours, unbelievable. What a great day that was.

Why am I taking about Inception limited FNAC editions ? Because I bet the same thing is going to happen with the Targaryen box set of Game of Thrones on March 7. That's a first day buy for me, and at 9am rather than 7pm, in case there aren't many box sets available — I don't like pre-ordering on the Internet, plus FNAC charges 5€ to deliver the product (amazon.fr doesn't, for instance)... FNAC.com is as greedy as the store it is the website of, the drapes match the curtains, I guess.

By the way, Darque, the link to FNAC's edition you posted in a comment is basically a big box, the book, a single DVD of the pilot and a coupon to purchase the DVD or Blu-ray set when it's out (it's a pre-order thing, and it looks like it's sold out). They did that on Boardwalk Empire as well. Personally, I don't see the point (if you pre-order a 49.99€ set of something you discover by watching the DVD of the pilot and don't like it, that's quite stupid because you paid for the complete season already). Technically, the book Le Trône de Fer and the box are for free, that's something I guess.

  16. That was all of the information Winter-is-Coming.net had and it's all I know.

With the sale date still more than a month off, it is entirely possible other retailers could jump on board and have the special edition covers too.HBO may keep the retailer list down to a small number... 1 or 2 per country. I have no real idea though.Yeah I am not a fan of the single pilot DVD idea either, but as a collector with a "completist " mentality..... I would want every product available even if many of the items were redundant...Well, I would want that if I had unlimited funds! XD

Good luck on your buy and I hope they put together some ultra-special-edition package with more goodies you can tell us about!
