Fringe - Season 5 Still a Possibility?

Jan 12, 2012

Thanks to RobertAriadne for the heads up.

Peter Roth, one of the heads over at Warner Bros who actually produce the show, said this after the recent Winter TCA 2012 press tour.

“We have no plans to give viewers closure this season because we expect the series to continue.”

Finally something positive for us Fringe fans after all the recent negativity about our show being cancelled.

  1. How is that positive? FOX loses money with Fringe, so they are not going to renew it. Okay, maybe we have a chance of renewal when Terra Nova gets cancelled and Alcatraz too. But now I think about season 4 as the last one of the show. And they won't give us closure, which means we have to find out through graphic novels.

  2. I still do believe that Season 4 is the last one... Even though Peter Roth may be positive but FOX has the final word. FOX is the company who broadcast it {an not WB!} and Fringe cost only money and shows which costs only money get ditched, simple as that....

  3. I don;t see that as positive.  Ok, yes, I like the idea that they think there will be a 5th season, but all signs from elsewhere do not suggest that this is likely to happen.  Surely some closure could be written in, even if they don't tie up all the loose threads.  it would be nice not to be left completely hanging if it is cancelled.

  4. Don't ruin it for the fans, end it while you still have time. Unlike so many other series that never got a chance to give us an ending, Invasion, Reaper, Heroes, Journeyman, The Middle Man, My name is Earl, Terminator SCC etc.

  5. All we need is one more season for them to wrap everything up. Hope Fox does what NBC did with Chuck and gives the fans that at least.

  6. We shouldn't bury it already. Let's wait it out...

  7. "Don't get cocky, kid!" You have no plans to give viewers closure this season, but have you plans to make sure there's a 5th season? If they have, then great! Tell us about it! Right now it seems like one guy's word against another, so they need to work out lowering costs or other shows need to go for season 5 to see the light of day. Fingers crossed!

  8. I just hope they're not leaving us with an open end and then not continue.

  9. Seems to me like they will offer them one final season, but that should really be a sweet deal for fox.

  10. Or a really dopey and rushed ending.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Phewww! that means we can realx now and enjoy the remaining episodes?

  12. As everyone said, It's not that good news. Maybe they have their own reasons to think Fringe will have a 5th season, which is good, but they have to consider the obvious option of cancellation, so it won't be too late if they won't make a closure.

  13. Not sure what to think of this. It sounds like great news. But we need someone in the know at Fox to confirm it. Until that happens,if it will. I'll be very worried about a chance of season five happening. I'm not giving up hope but it seems all odds are stacked up against it .

  14. Hopefully there's still a chance, cause we're gonna fight;)

  15. Thank you Mr.Roth for giving us even more of a reason to hope! You made my day.....  ;D

But if you don't mind i am still going to plug away!  :)

  16. I hope they do renew it but i doubt it

  17. If the ratings would go up a bit, sure I'd say there is a chance. but if the stay the same as for last 2 episodes or god forbid go down, I'm truly sorry to say  my favorite show on air right now is axed....
All I want for Fringe is a proper wrap up/closure on TV ( no comic books please...)
It's sad, but I can't wait to see the rating for next episode more than I want to see the actual episode - just wanna get it over with, either we're doomed or not, cause the not knowing what's gonna happen is killing me

  18. Maybe they are thinking of moving it to NBC or another network that would do a better job promoting the show.  We have to face it.  If you're not a chosen one on Fox you get little advertising or marketing.
Turn on Fox.  They run commercials for their animation shows at every commercial break it seems.  Terra Nova is dying because they don't advertise it.  They advertise House like crazy.  Bones gets commercial time.  Glee gets tons of pub. Idol......duh.
Yes, there is an element of the shows that make money get the advertising,  At the same time, you have to seed your investment and advertise it TO make money.....  The chicken and the egg question, I know.

  19. I wish they'd just renew it for like a 13 episode season or something like that just so we'd have time to get some closure, like what they did with Chuck.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah I don't agree with that. I think FOX has done a decent job promoting Fringe.

  21.  I think there are very few believers here besides you,Wilson and myself. I thought
this was positive news, i doubt Mr. Roth would say that just to blow us off.  We will just have to send out some good vibes and maybe it could stem the tide of hopelessness, and despair !  :D

  22. Clue of what's to come?

  23. that's what I keep saying. Just give a 13 ep final season and be done with it. I am so fearful of getting a shitty, rushed ending.

    ReplyDelete
  24. About the only chance Fringe has would be if Fox decides to go for 100 episode syndication, which would require a 13 episode 5th season.  They can still get syndication with 4 seasons, but  100 sells better.  Still, 3 million viewers is very low for Fox, very very low.

  25. Peter Roth just runs WBTV.  If no network is willing to pay for Fringe, the show is dead.

    ReplyDelete
  26. "In the end, I have to believe in hope." I see this a positive piece of news. Sure, WB isn't the end all. It will still come down to Fox to accept a deal to continue this wonderful show but until they make the final decision, I don't think we should give up. There is always that little glimmer of hope that they can strike a deal and save our show.

  27. I will take any shred of hope now. I also don't think he would throw something like that out there without having some kind of plan. He, Mr. Reilly, and WB and Fox know how invested we all get in this show and how we will cling to any piece of news they throw out. Until they give the final word, we must continue to fight and believe in our show!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, I don't know if WB wanting Fringe to continue is enough. It's definitely good news, but they still have to be able to make profitable enough offer to FOX or whichever network and I don't know if that's feasible in terms that will meet both the network's wants and production needs. I certainly hope so!!!!!

  29. I don't buy it.  Sorry.  I absolutely love Fringe.  I've loved it since the pilot, but this is it.  Unless Warner Brothers can dupe Starz into co-producing an extra season like the network did for Torchwood, Fringe is dunzo when this season ends.

  30. I just keep thinking about how many times 'Chuck' died and came back, I know its a different network with different ratings expectations but sometimes the impossible does happen

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm also a believer, sister Laura! ;-)
I want to believe in a 5th season to get some decent closure.
Like you said let's send out some good vibes (and some better ratings too)!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'd love to see some info about how much Fox makes later on with sales to other countries - I gotta hope that somehow all of us that watch overseas can have some impact!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hey my sister, yes i know you haven't given up hope, you and i have been believers for a long time. When i wrote this there were only 3 of us who felt like what Mr.Roth said was a positive sign,i'm glad you read this for your vibes is needed as well. And sadly we need a lot of people with Nelison boxes to tune in Friday night live.....Hope to see you tomorrow for the Fringe celebration.. :D

  34.  Indeed Fringie6989! I have been tweeting, making phone calls,i even put up a sign in my supermarket giving details about the plight of Fringe and what needs to be done, next week an ad in going into my local paper.I just can't give up,not yet our viewing season has been pretty screwed up with baseball, then the holidays rolling in,plus winter hiatus,so i am hoping that tomorrow night will prove that we haven't lost interest in Fringe, that the ratings will be up and in turn Fox will think long and hard and decide in out favor.
That is my hope, that is what i believe!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I will hang onto the word possibility until we know otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I wish I had your optimism.

    ReplyDelete
  37. In real life I am a pessimist but when it comes to my TV shows I try to cling on to hope!

  38. When was it canceled ?

  39. Fringe.
    Fringe - Season 5 Still a Possibility?
why wouldnt it be a possibility?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Nothing has been decided yet.

Most people believe that due to the very poor ratings that this season will be the last.

    ReplyDelete
  41. There's ~15 episodes left. It's the final stretch with maybe a few week breaks. It's winter when people stay indoors. This might be better off than in the Fall. And HOPEFULLY this peter/diff timeline plot will be coming to a close soon. (Because I think that's what's killing the ratings.) That's how long it lasted last year with Olivia. She was trapped in the alt universe for about 8 episodes.
