Thanks to Bruce_F for the heads up.
"Doctor Who" show runner Steven Moffat just tweeted something that set the Whovians all atwitter. He may have just revealed the identity of the newest companion. Fans of "Doctor Who" are still in mourning for the departure of companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) but a fan favorite might be joining the cast.
Now, we're not sure if this is the way to interpret the tweet from @steven_moffat, but judge for yourself.
Right EVERYBODY who follows me, go and follow @SophiaMyles - spin that fireplace. NOW. I'll explain later. Or not.
Sophia Myles tweeted back: "Watch this (fire)place," and "The plot thickens..."
If you recall, Myles played Mme. Pompadour in "The Girl in the Fireplace," which is widely touted as one of the show's best episodes. (We'd also add "The Doctor's Wife" in there.) While we'd love to see her back, we're not sure the famous character would be a full companion. We'd love to hear your thoughts. Give us a shout and tell us what you think.

Oh now that would be great!
ReplyDeleteThat would get me past my dislike of Matt Smith and watching the series again I think.....
Oh my god, I'd probably start watching Who again!
ReplyDeleteHa! What a coincidence! That was the next episode that I was planning on showing my sister.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to get her into Doctor Who, but after watching a couple of the first she's reluctant to watch the show. So I'm showing her my favorite episodes from the 6 seasons. If she still doesn't want to watch it, no problem but at least I'll have spread more Who around :p
Yes that would be amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm really not sure how that would work! Though it would satisfy my need to have a companion from the past rather than modern day UK
ReplyDeleteI would be able to watch Doctor Who again, but I'll always miss her being in Moonlight...
ReplyDeleteI loved her with Ten;) It's one of my favorite episodes!
ReplyDeleteHmm, if she is the newest companion wonder how she would be introduced, any ideas?
ReplyDeleteThat would totally take how from the awesomness that was The Girl In The Fireplace though. That episode was so tragic BECAUSE she never saw The Doctor again before her death.
ReplyDeletePlus with all the secrecy Moffat has put around the show before, I doubt he would do something like this.
You dislike MATT SMITH???
ReplyDeleteHERETIC!!! Have at thee, knave!!!
Oh, sorry. Got a bit carried away there. *clears throat* Of course, you're entitled to your opinion. :)
Your funny comment made me LOL
ReplyDeleteI would not say that I dislike Smith but I'm not to found of him. I miss Tenant like hell.
PS : Now you can send me burn at the stake ;-)
Considering her last twitt, could be someone related to Mme de Pompadour?

She re-twitted it.
ReplyDeleteI was with you until the Matt Smith remark. :)
ReplyDeleteI wish CBS had never canceled that show.
ReplyDeleteBe good if it happens.
ReplyDeleteI Think that would be kinda cool!!!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. The Girl in the Fireplace was so good and the ending was so sad that bringing her back would just undermine that.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would like that. I absolutely loved the ep "The Girl in the Fireplace", but I don't see her as a permanent companion. It would take too much away from the ep like some previous comments said. I don't think she would work with 11th. It just doesn't fit in my opinion :)
ReplyDeleteI just don't think she would be playing Reinette. The ending of that episode is perfect and I don't think Moffat would mess with it. Karen Gillan was in The Fires of Pompeii as a soothsayer before being cast as Amy Pond. The Girl in the Fireplace is probably my favorite episode of New Who, which has a lot to do with Sophia Myles so I'm totally okay with this.
ReplyDeleteThat would be pretty cool, that was one of the best episodes of #10s run. I assume that she would just play another character, though it would be pretty sweet to have a companion with from a time other then present day. Not to mention her character would make a great companion.
ReplyDeleteya there is alot of that, Freema Agyeman played a woman taken over by Cybermen in Rose's run.
ReplyDeleteYou all will laugh but when I saw Chuck for the 1st time I thought
ReplyDeleteYvonne Strahovski did that episode. I was like dude thats Reinette
I forgot Freema did that too! I didn't even catch her in Army of Ghosts until I did a full rewatch.
ReplyDeleteThat would be great, although I would love for Amy to stay
ReplyDeleteAww, what do you dislike about Smith? :( I think he's one of the best Doctors we have ever had, thou I know some prefer Tennant's take on it, lol.
ReplyDeleteI'd love another companion like Jamie (Doc 2 companion) who was from the distant past, or an alien at least. I'm bored of 'contemporary' pals now, we've seen selfish Rose, lovelorn Martha, headstrong Donna and two sides of Amy (before and after she was brought up by her parents). I think we've explored enough of those kinds of emotions so someone not from 'now' would be excellent :D
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't have to be playing the same role thou. Karen was in The Fires of Pompeii and Martha was in the S2 finale, both playing completely different characters :)
ReplyDeleteDislike may be a strong word, but I much preferred Tennant. Smith is too quirky for me maybe? I only watched the first 4-6 of Season 6 So perhaps he improves, or I would consider him improved later in the season....
ReplyDeleteI will catch up sometime but I'm so behind on shows right now and the Doctor is not one of those shows on my "must watch" lists.... very fun show, but not one I miss in anyway if I don't watch I guess.
Indeed, it would make a nice change something which I think is needed after 6 series of the Nu Who.
ReplyDeleteAhh, have you only seen those two in the role? Every Doctor is different to each other I guess, Tennant was certainly the most human like one which some prefer over the alienesque take that most others have brought to the role. I personally love the quirkiness, he does well at adding layer imo, making the character both very young yet so very old too. I hope you do pick it up again sometime, you finished just as the plot was getting very interesting XD
ReplyDeleteDavid Tennant will always be my favorite Doctor, with that said I do like Matt Smith he brings tons of energy, a darkness, and humor to the show. So what's up with the Doctor,, I've never understood why the Doctor refuses to hook up his companions? I can only surmise that by remaining platonic he's less likely to become too emotionally attached.
ReplyDeleteYes, but they were pretty minor characters. The entire episode wasn't devoted to them.
ReplyDeleteI love Sophia Myles. But I wouldn't really like this. It would ruin The Girl in the Fireplace for me.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, but I don't think Moff will continue another great romance for the Doc after all he's been through with River Song. I just think it would make sense if she were to play a different character if she were to return as companion.
