    I don't see Castle whatsoever. A writer investigating is not a writer joining the police.... More like Kolchak the Nightstalker without the supernatural elements.

    Plus it being set back in the 1800's will not feel anything like Castle.

    Now if the female lead wears high heels and as she attempts to apprehend criminals... THEN it would be like Castle.
