Thanks to darq for the heads up.
A popular book series from Ayelet Waldman could become a drama series for fall on CBS.
The network on Thursday gave a thumbs-up to three drama pilots, including one based on Waldman’s Mommy Track Mysteries series about a former public defender who becomes a private investigator to keep from being bored to death as a stay-at-home mom.
Another drama in the works for fall comes Nicholas Pileggi (Goodfellas) and Greg Walker and is a period piece set in the 60s about Ralph Lamb — a rodeo cowboy turned longtime sheriff of Las Vegas.
CBS also greenlit the Joel Silver pilot Quean, described by the network as an “edgy and independent Millennial hacker girl who teams up with an Oakland police detective to solve crimes.” Alternative title: Lisbeth by the Bay?

I saw Girl with the Dragon Tattoo fe days ago and was thinking what a kick ass series it could be. I meant with those production values and that level of writing and acting and direction.... Wow, imagine!
ReplyDeleteHacker Girl sounds thoroughly less interesting to me.
However, I will watch Mitch Pileggi in anything so bring on the rodeo sheriff!
Quean defintiely sounds like 'Girl With..' done for TV. Not sure I am interested to be honest, nor in 'mom turns PI', yawn..
ReplyDeleteThe one about the rodeo cowboy turned sheriff sounds more intersting.
I've seen some fun mom turns PI series and some really bad ones too. From Scarecrow and Mr's King and Hetty Winthrop Investigates (okay she was grandma turns PI XD) that were both fun to Women's Murder Club which was painful to watch!
ReplyDeleteI may check it out because I like PI and mystery shows, but it certainly did not draw me in by the premise!
Non of these are really turning me on based solely on these descriptions.
ReplyDeleteBoring, more boring, most boring.
ReplyDeleteJust who is it that comes up with these ideas.
Quite honestly I think that the first person you stopped in a busy street would have a more original and creative idea for a tv series.
a) Mom turned P.I. because she's bored at home!
b) Has-been cowboy/ sheriff!
c) To finish off a hacker story ----Mmm, absolutely innovative!
I know right? XD
ReplyDeleteAlthough one bored housewife turned PI did introduce us to an 18-year old Dominic Monaghan. A UK series called Hetty Winthropp my mom loves! XD
He was still every bit of Charlie even at 18! XD

Three new dramas, three boring dramas.
ReplyDeletesame old same old CBS, boring cop shows you'd think they have enough of those by now?!
ReplyDeletei am agree 3 new boooooring dramas
ReplyDeleteI will give them this one thing...
ReplyDeleteThey have had boring cop shows with male leads for years, but now they are trying to have boring cop shows with female leads! XD
The reply button is being uncooperative so I transferred here!

I used to live in the UK and I knew all the series but now I've sadly fallen behind and must admit to having never seen this show, but I can say that my Mum loves Jessica Fletcher in "Murder She Wrote!" if that compensates!! :-)
Yes Dominic hasn't changed much as he has one of those timeless countenances that age well. Is that his mum in the series? If it is she looks really bad-ass!
About the pilot writers, they should keep in mind the glorious lead-in of Star Trek TOS :- "to seek out new worlds and new civilisations and to boldly go where no man has gone before " and apply it to their profession. :)
The hacker girl series has potential if its lisbeth salander like. Loved the girl with the dragon tattoo series, english and swedish films, and the books. sounds like good shows
ReplyDeleteI loved reading the Millennium series and watched the first in the Swedish version. And now--I'm done. Don't want to see the American movie, don't want to read any more Lisbeth books. Don't want to see a series such as Quean. It was all very good, but I expect the public, me included, has reached or will soon reach a saturation point on this genre.
ReplyDeleteBored stay-at-home mom... I think I fell asleep. And of course, she'll manage to get her ass into all sorts of dangerous things, risking her children's lives for some excitement. She couldn't have taken up cardio striptease like the rest of the bored moms.
ReplyDeletewell good for Joel Silver; i hope for his sake that this series does better than his last & doesnt end up being canceled on a cliff-hanger
ReplyDeleteit will all depend on the casting for me.. but so far, Quean is the more interesting..
ReplyDeleteA legal-ish drama, and 2 procedural with a twists.... CBS doesn't stretch too much outside the box, but we'll how these turn out
ReplyDeleteNo the woman is the lead in the series Hetty Winthrop, a bored housewife who catches Charlie... I mean Dominic doing something naughty and eventually he becomes her crime-solving partner in crime. I think it lasted 4 years... I think. Kind of cute.
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting. I'll have to check if it came out on DVD.
ReplyDeleteIt did come out in the US at least. Not sure where you are now.

It's on Netflix too it looks like.

That's Nicholas Pileggi the screenwriter, not Mitch Pileggi the actor.
ReplyDeleteI knew it was only a matter of time before someone decided to exploit the popularity of the Dragon Tattoo trilogy and make it a TV show. It may not be an official adaptation but it's pretty obvious what the creator is going for here. (Sadly, I'd still probably check it out anyway.)
ReplyDeleteD'oh!
ReplyDeleteThat's what happens when I read (or attempt to read) things while laying down at 3am! XD
The pilot is less interesting suddenly....
Ha! I completely agree.
ReplyDeleteNone of these sound any good.
