The CW has ordered a pilot of The Carrie Diaries, based on SATC author Candace Bushnell’s novel following young Carrie Bradshaw. The story tells of Bradshaw coming of age in the 1980s, “asking her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family, while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan.” Amy Harris, who worked on HBO’s original SATC, wrote the Carrie Diaries pilot. Executive producers include Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Len Goldstein, Candace Bushnell.
But that’s not all…
The network also ordered its new version of Beauty and the Beast to pilot. It’s loosely based on the 1987 CBS series and billed as “a modern day romantic love story with a procedural twist.” Jennifer Levin (Felicity) and Sherri Cooper (Brothers and Sisters) are the writer

Ugh!Just what is needed another Beauty and the Beast.
ReplyDeleteHow dare they do a prequel for Sex and the City? That's going to suck. Majorly. Same with Beauty and the Beast.
ReplyDeleteGood God.
ReplyDeleteFairy tales are really making a comeback.
ReplyDeleteGRRM better not take a job writing or consulting for them!
ReplyDeleteHe has enough writing to do... 2 (or maybe 3) books worth!
I'd rather hear about The Hollows adaption they were talking about.
ReplyDeleteum what why on both accounts?! I dont want to see a young Carrie. We need to go forward not backwards!!!!
ReplyDeleteNeither of these sound appealing.
ReplyDelete"With a procedural twist" almost made me throw up. lol
ReplyDeleteI think these should have been named Crash and Burn :P
ReplyDeletewith a procedural twist??
ReplyDeleteHow exactly does that work out??
There are just some things I never want to know. O_O
ReplyDeleteSounds like a "pass" on both
ReplyDeleteGood Chuck*
ReplyDeleteThey already have the prequel for Sex in the City... Gossip girl.
ReplyDeleteBoth concepts sound like they may run into the same problem as the Firm. They're both concepts that are long long past their heyday...Does anyone want to revisit them?
ReplyDeleteCan see both of these failing.
ReplyDeleteIf they cancel Hart of Dixie for this crap I might actually die
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I guess I am the only one who wants to see the SATC prequel ( I have actually read all of CB's books). I love SATC but I actually don't want to see the story move forward anymore (I mean Samantha is 50, no offense to smoking hot 50 and older ladies on the prowl). I think that if they cancel GG, it could be something to rally around. CB doesn't give much in the way of artistic license (and trust that Josh and Stephanie need someone to force them to stick to manuscript from time to time (see the hot mess Gossip Girl has become, if you doubt me).
ReplyDeleteAs for the Beauty and the Beast, not so much... been there done that, it was bad then and it's even worse now... a procedural twist? Really? GFY. This idea is a season too late, we do have Grimm after all. The CW needs to do a night of 30 minute comedies (sans a laugh track). The hour long "dramas" are wearing on me. I don't like any of the current network comedies, personally (well, Community but I need to dvr it, so I can fast forward). None of the comedies as of late seem to be for my demo. If done well, they could really capitalize on it (make it on a Tuesday (c'mon, you know Ringer is going to get cancelled and 90210 is losing steam, IMO).I just don't get The CW. As long as SPN and TVD are on, I guess I will have to watch. But the minute there gone, I'm out.
If you are a fan of Hart of Dixie, The Secret Circle, or Nikita, this is good news. These terrible, terrible projects will make it that much easier to get renewals for the shows that The CW already airs.
ReplyDeleteum, no.
ReplyDeletealso. I know there are no original ideas. But maybe you could try just A LITTLE harder.
YES. Absolutely. What is that nonsense.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me while I laugh because this is true.
ReplyDeleteWhat?! Can't the CW come up with some original idea that isn't based on an old tv show or a book?!?
ReplyDeleteI smell two flops..
ReplyDeleteSeriously? This network is becoming more and more sh!t...
ReplyDeleteI never liked Sex and the City, so, thanks, but no thanks. XD and Beauty and The beast? I had OUAT in my must watch list of shows...so... :/
ReplyDeletehahaha I was thinking this exactly! XDD
ReplyDeleteIt could be like that Tarzan series WB had years ago, Jane is a cop, finds Tarzan, Tarzan helps solve crimes... luckily it didn't even last half a season. Replacing the fantasy of a story with a "procedural twist" would be like taking some huge romance/drama story like Pride and Prejudice and adding aliens and lasers.
ReplyDeleteIf they're going to go down the fairy tale/Disney type story line why not go for something that
ReplyDeleteA) hasn't been done on TV before or rarely done
and B) ISN'T ON ANOTHER NETWORK IN THE SAME DEVELOPMENT SEASON
Why not do an Aladdin series or something!? (Ok, it wouldn't be amazing but it'd be better than this)
If they continue like this Supernatural will be on the air until Sam and Dean are 100! :-()
ReplyDeleteI remember Beauty and the Beast from the eighties. I used to enjoy it but I really dislike re-boots and prequels.
There is so much original untouched material out there that they could tap into. Even a nobody like myself can see that it's going to be difficult for a Sex and the City prequel to be a success, even though nowadays it's not easy to anticipate what will take the viewers fancy.
So I could be wrong and they might be great.
Ummm...not sure about these...
ReplyDeleteThese do not appeal to me at all.
