Last night a rather low key and toned down Ricky Gervais hosted the Golden Globes and to the surprise of no one, cable networks cleaned house! The only network show to win was Modern Family with its 1 Award.
Maybe network TV will pay attention and stop catering to the lowest common denominator, but I doubt it.
Winners in BOLD.

I do not recall a night when cable TV won a higher percentage of the awards....
ReplyDeleteEach year it seems to be less and less network TV series winning awards and rightly so!
Kudos to all the winners but a special shout out to Peter Dinklage!
In case anybody was wondering who Martin Henderson is after Mr. Dinklage mentioned him.....

The female winners were very predictable for me, but I was pretty wrong in the male section.
ReplyDeleteThank you, good to see that Homeland did so well.
ReplyDeleteKelsey Grammer won over Bryan Cranston and Damian Lewis I can't even!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen such terrible results! Thanks for posting :)
ReplyDeleteHE would not have been my choice but in fairness Grammar was great in Boss....That role was award show catnip just like Claire Danes' role in Homeland.
ReplyDeleteGlad Peter Dinklage & Jessica Lange both won, not sure that Kelsey Grammer deserved the win over Damian Lewis and Bryan Cranston but maybe that's jsut becasue I couldn't get into Boss at all. I agree it was a different role for him though.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yay for Homeland, Claire Danes and Peter Dinklage! So sorry for Damian Lewis.
ReplyDeletesame here!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
ReplyDeleteI´m so happy for Claire Danes and Peter Dinklage, who both deserved to win! I wanted Game of Thrones to win, but Homeland is also an awesome show. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteYAY! SO HAPPY FOR HOMELAND & CLAIRE DANES!
ReplyDeleteHey, not bad at all !
ReplyDeleteI really am glad that Homeland, Claire Danes, Peter Dinklage, Modern Family and Matt LeBlanc won (for best comedy/best actor in a comedy, there really weren't many other decent nominees, it's nice that the few deserving to be here got something). Laura Dern wins for Enlightened and that's great, although I would have loved if Amy Poehler had taken the prize home, almost securing a fifth season of Parks and Recreation at the same time. Laura Linney won last year but it would have been cool with me if she had kept her title of best actress in a comedy. And Bryan Cranston NEEDED to win, but that's okay, he'll just stick with Emmys (he will win his fourth Emmy for Breaking Bad next September).
Regarding the big screen, I'm really glad Tintin won for best animated film (start making a sequel now !), Midnight in Paris for best screenplay and The Artist for their 3 Golden Globe wins (best comedy/musical, best actor for Jean Dujardin and best score), although Michel Hazanavicius should have won for best director (the best movie makes up for it). I haven't seen The Descendants yet, when it'll get released next week I definitely will go see it, it looks good. Also, I can't wait to see the "hysterical comedy", My Week With Marilyn, winner Michelle Williams looks funny as hell in it.
I would have given the Golden Globe to Jessica Chastain or Bérénice Bejo but Octavia Spencer was good, too. At first I was surprised that Scorsese won for Hugo (the movie is good, but far from being one of his best and except a few sequences the directing is not spectacular) but that sort of assured that The Artist and The Descendants would win the best motion picture prizes in drama and comedy, which they did.
Best part was Tina Fey photobombing Amy
ReplyDeleteDid you see Emily last night on the GG?
ReplyDeleteI am thrilled for HOMELAND and CLAIRE DANES!...IMO they deserved it ! :D
ReplyDeleteOh well Jini, two out of three ain't bad,is it...I so happy for Homeland,it truly deserved it! YAY! :)
ReplyDeleteI really thought Bryan Cranston was going to take home the award,i was surprised when they called out Kelsey's name. Oh well, next year....
ReplyDeleteI'm happy Tintin won also as it was head and shoulders above its competition in my mind. I was wondering if it might suffer somewhat due to being more of a European series than American, but I forgot this is the Foreign Press that votes! XD
ReplyDeleteI thought Grammar was going to win simply because it was just too odd of a nomination for him in the first place to me. It felt like he had to win the award.
ReplyDeleteI think Cranston deserved it maybe, but Kelsey was great in Boss even though I did not like the series on whole.
I wasn't able to watch Boss since i don't get starz,so i wouldn't know.
ReplyDeleteYou did not miss much. XD
ReplyDeleteWell it was ok, but I tuned out before the 4th episode I think...
Lots of premiere channels winning. Don't care. I'm still not paying a couple hundred bucks a year for HBO and Showtime just so I can watch a few shows.
ReplyDeleteSuper happy for Homeland, Claire Danes and Peter Dinklage. The rest wasn't great.
ReplyDeleteWho would ever have thought Matt LeBlanc would have any sort of success after "Friends?" That really surprises me.
ReplyDeleteYes you're right, as always! :-)
ReplyDeleteWell unfortunately I didn't see Emily, because I couldn't watch the GGA... I'm in France and a little bit busy, right now!
So please dear screen sister, just tell me now, how was Emily?
Sweet! Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteDo what I do...
ReplyDeleteCall your cable company (if you do pay for regular cable) and complain that prices are too high and you're going to switch to DirecTV or Dish, 99% of the time they will offer you some premium cable package free for 3 or 6 months or even a year.Last time I got all premium channels (except The Movie Channel) free for 12 months!
That was hilarious! xD
ReplyDeleteEek! I'm not that assertive. The best I did was to whine about the price and ask if there was some way I could get them cheaper. Maybe I'll try that again. Maybe I'll keep trying until I wear them down. I'll let you know how it goes :)
ReplyDeleteHa! XD
ReplyDeleteI was not THAT assertive. I was honestly going to switch to DirecTV since I would get the premiums free for 6 months if I recall. I told the Customer Service Rep that ( and that the monthly cost was cheaper)and she said they could give me the premiums free for a year.
I actually like Comcast and don't need to switch. But they have a kiosk inside Best Buy. I was able to sweet talk the rep when I ordered our DVR, so I maybe I just need to find her again and plead. The only shows I would watch, really, are Homeland, Shameless, and Boardwalk Empire (maybe), so it's not a dire necessity yet.
ReplyDeleteHomeland, Claire, Kate and Idris I totally agree and am super excited for them!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Jini,Emily looked so good, she lost most of the weight from the baby, well at least that is how it looks to me. Go look at today post it says"Golden Globe 2012-Photo Gallery,Emily is one of the women in the photo.Go check it out,its around here somewhere....Let my know what you think.
ReplyDeleteOh,i had no idea where you lived,i will keep it in mind for the future. :D.
I think home girl from the Hour should have won for best actress in a mini-series. Kate Winslet should not have won for that category especially considering she was nominated last year for the same exact award!
ReplyDeleteKelsey deserved the win for Boss because his performance was on fire! I like breaking bad it was one of my favorite show, but the show is slowing a bit and Bryan Creston can't win every freaking year, his head is already big enough.
