2011-2012 ratings round up, Part I - CBS : Killer at Procedural Land

Hi. Here's a ratings round up of all the ratings of the first part of the 2011-2012 season. Every day for the next 7 days, I'll be posting the ratings of every single show having been on the air on every major network (plus a few cable channels as well) over the past 4 months.

I started collecting the ratings of this fall a few weeks ago, I thought I'd compile the figures, try and make them easy to read for you to witness the evolution of your favorite shows week after week (personally I like that and I didn't find such a list compiling everything so I thought I'd make one), and add completely neutral pictures representing in no way the shows that I think are worth watching, wink wink.

Those are always the final ratings that I got from TVbythenumbers (they're usually posted them 12 to 30 hours after the preliminary ratings). I didn't include real TV.

Part I - CBS : Killer at Procedural Land
Part II - The CW Diaries
Part III - Once Upon a Time, ABC had good ratings...
Part IV - The new girl is FOXy
Part V - NBC or the story of the peacock on fire
Part VI - AMC and FX, complex ratings on basic cable
Part VII - Showtime and HBO, or where the ratings don't matter (or do they ?)

  2. It depresses the hell out of me how well these bland procedural shows do, CBS is like my TV nightmare

  4. Great stuff Bunk!

If there's one thing CBS knows how to do it is a procedural TV series. I guess part of it is the fact they seem to greenlight more procedural pilots than other networks despite having more of them on the air already.

  5. This was indeed an awesome endeavor, Bunky! I watch The Good Wife and Person of Interest. Glad they're doing well.

    It isn't fair.

  7. are you going to be doing the other networks such as ABC, CW, FOX and NBC?

  8. I'm with you on some level.... I prefer serialized series by far.

Most do not deal with partners romantic lives and "will they or won't they" romance plots, overly gimmicky characters (outside of the ex-fake-psychic The Mentalist), and most are well-honed stories from the onset. Not soapy romances, or dumbed down melodramas filled with teen angst.

As far as procedurals series go CBS has the best on TV....

  10. Thanks for posting. I'm glad that some of the procedural shows I do think are worth watching are doing well ratings wise. I'm not going to pick out what I'm referring to, but I'm sure any of you all could guess. Regardless, thanks for posting!

  13. Ha!

You must be 10 pounds lighter after getting all that off your chest! XD

I think I agree on all points. I came to the conclusion you did either faster or slower depending on the series I guess. I do still watch the original CSI, but if it went off the air I would not miss it at all. It's just the least annoying of the CSI franchises I I like crime solving. Person of Interest is great because of the great actors, but if it does not evolve into more of a serial I will get bored net year some time with it even.

All the ABC shows got old to me very fast and I watch most of the hour-long dramas at one point or another. ABC just seems to be designed for shippers.

FOX is just flat for me. Nothing great on it in years drama wise with the exception of FRINGE, but even FRINGE is only great half of each season. The other half is just slightly above average. The comedies tend to be non-starters for me and sophomoric.

NBC has been off my radar for something like 2 decades now? The NBC comedies do nothing for me whatsoever and their dramas... I won't beat a network while it's dying. I do watch Grimm for the same reason as you.... as a connection to Buffy since there is a definite Buffy feel to the series even if it is not as well done as Buffy on most levels.

    CW is a mixed bag
. If ABC is not designed for shippers, CW certainly is. I love their serial aspect and want to support a network that seems to make more serials than any other network on TV. However I just can't do it loudly or passionately when every show feels the same to me. Each one seems to go in circles and have contrived writing. I loved Nikita in the first half of Season 1, but stopped caring when they turned it from a kick ass spy drama into a spy romance novel. Supernatural is their one saving grace for me, but that is consistently mediocre the last 3 or 4 years. That is a step up over most CW shows though!

Maybe my tolerance of network TV would be higher if I had not started watching cable TV. No comparison in quality on any level. Cable is just superior. Period. I literally said "Thank you for cable TV" at Thanksgiving. Network TV has spiraled downward for years now.

  14. Interesting compilation, thanks very much. I didn't realise it, but flicking down through this list, I noticed that the only show I watch on CBS is NCIS, and looking at what else they have to offer, I don't think that'll be changing any time soon. The only thing there I would consider watching would be the Big Bang Theory: Criminal Minds is something I dropped about two seasons ago and have no inclination to return to, and I would genuinely rather watch quite a lot of reality TV shows than any of the CSI series.

  17. I need to hear someone's opinion (and only if it goes the way I want) on my CSI NY. I love that show and don't want to see it go anywhere, Please please please tell me there's a chance it will get at least one more season.

  18. It's a tough one to call. The ratings have been pretty poor, and it's in our "Danger Zone" on our cancellation prediction table.

If I was a betting man, I'd day it was 60%/40% in favour of getting cancelled I'm afraid.

  20. EXACTLY. YES. Like, who are all these people watching CBS? Truly, I hardly no anyone who watches. I mean, I watch 4 CBS shows--HIMYM, TBBT, Good Wife, Hawaii--but...I just don't get it. Ugh, procedurals. I only watch a few. But none of them are my favorite shows. Okay, now I am just rambling...
