  1. I hope figures like this show networks that offering worldwide viewing online is the way to go, much like BBC iplayer is International now for a fee :)

  2. yeah this is great but you forget that most people, who download a show in the internet don't wanna pay anything for the viewing pleasure, which btw sucks.

  3. very interestingg it surprises me that terra novas on here!

  4. That is a downside I guess :(  But a big part of the problem with illegal downloads today is that they didn't address the problem soon enough, they should have learnt form the mistakes that the music industry made and thought things through years ago when high speed internet became the norm :(

  5. I take issue with this chart as presented. First, there's no source for the "estimated number of US TV viewers." Then, Torrentfreak says that the download numbers are for single episodes of that show, but doesn't say which episode, and doesn't say if the estimated TV viewership is also for that same episode or an average number of viewers for that show from week to week. And finally, they make clear that the download number is international, so comparing, for instance, the worldwide downloads of True Blood to the US viewership of True Blood is pointless. I will agree with their point that greater access means less piracy, by the fact that Doctor Who isn't in the top ten, presumably since BBC America is showing it same day now.

  6. Yes, me as well. That show is sooo bad. But I guess if it's single episode, then the one of Terra Nova is most probably the Pilot... And I agree as well, that one of the biggest reason is that outside the US, there's no chance to view it, so I don't feel particularly bad to watch them over stream or...

  7. That's gotta be a big improvement for Breaking Bad over season 3.

  8. I'm surprised OUAT isn't there, but that's probably because it hasn't been on for that long.

  9. Really odd list, only thought about two of these would make it on.

  10. The figures are worldwide, so rather than it just being people who don't want to pay, the figures include those who have no alternative in their countries:  I know that in the UK there are no plans for seasons 3 and 4 of Breaking Bad to be shown, *ever*.  Dexter and True Blood take upwards of 6 months to make it to the air in the UK, by which time fans will probably have found out big twists online (which sucks if by accident).

Sky does try to show things quickly nowadays, IMO a result of filesharing.

I would absolutely pay for access to Hulu, especially it could be integrated into my TV service.

  11. It is a huge accessibility problem, I would jump at the chance to watch Community and have a chance at boosting the viewing figures, because I think it would do extremely well here, but its stuck on a small channel that I cant get in my area... as it is, if I want to watch it, I have to either download it or wait until the dvd.

  12. Well,  some of us can't help it! If these shows were on TV at the same time as US broadcast ... I would totally watch it on TV.
However, when Game of Thrones/True Blood is shown on HBO here in India, half of the episode is censored ... and in that case, we can't really watch it that!
Terra Nova comes on TV here close to US broadcast, but I just lost interest in that show! :(
Last year, i watched The Walking Dead on TV instead of downloading it ... this year, they didn't even broadcast it!
So yes....please broadcast your shows internationally ... and we will watch on tv!!

  13. I am surprised not finding Fringe and OUAT up there!

    ReplyDelete
  14. am I the only one who thinks "Game of Thrones" is overrated?

    ReplyDelete
  15. interesting.. thanks!

  16. Off with the heathens head!!

But really, I like that show, it's quality entertainment.

  17. See I would happily pay a fee to watch these shows, hell Fox let me pay you money to watch Fringe but alas there is no option for that yet.

I'd rather not torrent them but when shows like Breaking Bad aren't even airing anymore in the UK or shows like True Blood are a season behind I am not going to wait not in an age of spoilers being posted seconds after an episode airs (hell during the episode itself!0

  18. Surprised to not see Gossip Girl up there on that list...

  19. damn criminals lol

  20. At some point, the public needs to get on the same page, collectively and send a message to cable providers.  Let us have a la carte streaming, basic cable and internet for a reasonable price.  The way to beat piracy is to make the honest, lawful option more attractive and simpler.

  21. the walking dead is just that awesome lol

  22. Sad for Fringe! I think OUAT aired too recently yet.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I see what your saying but this show zoomed to the top so i took it for granted that it would have been listed :)

  24. Thanks! Interesting that hackers in the worldwide web have good taste. That's some good news for me! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  25. But the network can do tones of money from adds so the viewing can be free. Like you can watch shows on fox if your in the usa, why not make this worldwide? I'm not gonna pay 60$ for a tvshow i dont know if I'm gonna like haha.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thats the point most people don't wanna throw away 60€ / $ when they don't know if they like the show or not so they watch it via illegal downloads/streams which is in some way understandable.

  27. Terra  Nova will be on the French channel CANAL + on the 19 th of January.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well, LOST is lost : - )

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah I know but if the website (fox.com abc..... ) would let everyone watch the show for free then poeple would watch it there instead of downloading it illigaly

    ReplyDelete
  30. Terra nova airs regularly in India on star World with only a gap of  a week

    ReplyDelete
  31. thats where i believe Netflix is ahead of the game... they are gonna release the new Arrested development and there are rumbling of their own produced movie, imagine if that spikes their revenue and all the networks jump the ship!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Illegal dowload went out of control due to the blindness of the networks/producers, etc, making the same mistake it ruined the CD business. House, for instance, is the most watched show if you consider worldwide viewers. But depending on the country, the episodes are behind schedule if compared to the US. And people get access to the spoilers, news and such through the internet. But not the show itself. So... download.

    ReplyDelete
  33. All the shows that i download are in the list, except Castle and Bones

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love the discussion this post has brought about. Something clearly needs to be done for international viewers. I'd also hope a change like this would destroy the Nielsen rating system because the worldwide audience has excellent taste in television.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Probably. About those ratings, I think about 60% of the viewers are people who are readers of the ASOIAF book series and if you were a HP fan you wouldn't wanna miss any of the HP movies, right?
