Supernatural - Midseason Polls - Part 4

25 Dec 2011

Merry Christmas SpoilerTV Supernatural community! I hope it has been a great day for you and yours. Sine the festivities have finished in my household I decided to post this a day early. Don't forget that you can vote for 3 episodes in each poll and that the poll stays open for one week. I did mess up the timetable for part 3 of the polls but it has now been fixed so you should still be able to vote in round 2 and round 3. For more details, read the plan below. As always thanks for voting and commenting and have a great Christmas day.

The plan: We will run the contest to see where episodes will rank over winter hiatus and the early part of summer hiatus. The top 100 episodes will be ranked by how they do in this contest. The bottom 49 episodes will go head to head to see which ones make it into the contest. The reason for this is that the brackets only work with 128 episodes. This will still allow each episode to go head to head to determine the Best Supernatural Episode.

Unlike the actual contest in the summer, preliminaries will be open for at least one week each. Everyone still only gets 1 vote per IP address though. Voting will be in 6 episode batches by order in which they aired and everyone can vote for 3 episodes per batch. Feel free to sound off in the comments about why you chose what you did.

  1. We now enter my least favorite phase of Supernatural - The Emoangst Years.  There are very few episodes in this section that I would ever vote as the ultimate episode.  In fact, there is one round I was tempted not to vote for any episodes.  However, I prevailed and here are my choices:

Round 1 - Sex and Violence for the great twist, Death Takes a Holiday because it was different and had Alastair and Tess (and ghostly Winchesters), and It's a Terrible Life, the one glimmer of hope in an angst ocean.  Yes, On the Head of a Pin was really, really important and yes the acting was wonderful but it and Dark Side of the Moon may be the most depressing episodes of the series.  Besides, it will get enough votes without me.  The least said about After School Special (yep that's Dabb & Loflin again) and the MatEotB the better.

Round 2 - none of the above?  That doesn't work?  Then I vote for Good God Y'All for the great recurring characters and Lucifer Rising if only because we finally got rid of Ruby and I cheered that the brothers killed her in tandem.  Yes, When the Levee Breaks was well-acted and yes it was important but again the emoangst level hit critical levels and it will also have a lot of votes.  As for the others, Jump the Shark introduced Adam so definite no, I barely remember The Rapture and rarely rewatch it, and I had no Sympathy for the Devil (found him incredibly lame).

Round 3 - Some of the best episodes of season 5 are in here.  Definite votes for The End and Changing Channels.  They hit my top 20 episodes list.  I Believe the Children are Our Future is one of the worst concepts in the series so it's definitely out while Free to be You and Me has separated brothers and neither had a good story to boot.  That leaves Fallen Idols which was much, much better than I feared it would be and had Killer Ghandi, bwah.  However, my vote goes narrowly to The Curious Case of Dean Winchester for awesome Dean-Bobby scenes and the humor of GrandpaDean.

Round 4 - none of the above?  Except for Abandon All Hope, with the most poignant death scene of all, there isn't much in this list for me either.  Sam, Interrupted gets a vote for making me laugh in the bleakest section of the series.  Doped up Sam was hilarious!  However the rest run from ho hum to outright drek for me.  The Real Ghostbusters had Becky (automatic blech), Family Remains is in my 10 worst episodes, The Song Remains the Same was a pointless retread, and My Bloody Valentine was far, far too gross.

Looking at the episode choices this round reminds me of why the unevenness of season 6 always gets a bit of a pass from me.  At least those episodes remembered the fun.I'll take somewhat convoluted and jumpy over bleak and hopeless any day.  So just how different is your opinion of midseason 4 - season 5 than mine?  Probably a lot.

  2. I just voted randomly...I don't have any favorites

  3. I absolutely agree about the emoangst and I hate it too

  4. Blah... not too many great episodes in these rounds - which only reminds me why I dislike season 5 so much.
Poll 1 (the only one with truly amazing episodes here):
Death Takes a Holiday - absolutely the most underrated episode of season 4 and probably one of the most underrated overall. It certainly does not get the recognition it deserves. With Pamela, Tessa and Alastair, it has probably the best recurring character line-up ever on this show.
On the Head of a Pin - absolutely brilliant and my favourite episode of season 4. A little too much angel-only scenes, but the Dean-Alastair moments, the Dean-Cas moments and the big reveal made up for it.
The Monster at the End of This Book - I loved the meta and I loved Chuck, unlike many.

    Poll 2:
The Rapture - simply for Misha's acting.
Lucifer Rising - this episode was all talking and yet somehow I love it. Probably for the Cas-Dean scenes. And I loved the cliffhanger at the end.
Good God Y'all - because War was a kickass horseman. Certainly NOT because Jo was there.

    Poll 3:
Free to Be You and Me - because I had to vote for something and I didn't like either of 5x05, 5x06 and 5x07 too much
The End - probably the best episode of season 5.
Changing Channels - a great comedy episode, but we've had better ones.

    Poll 4:
Abandon All Hope - even though I DID NOT cry when Ellen and Jo died.
Sam, Interrupted - because I had to choose something
My Bloody Valentine - because I loved the gore and the Cupid

  5. Group 13
    *Death Takes a Holiday*
Alastair appearances are always good, plus this had Tessa and Pamela calling out Sam about his blood addiction.  Good stuff.  Dark, but good.
*On The Head of a Pin*
A traitor is revealed, Dean's time in hell is explored, and Sam Hulks-out on Ruby juice.  Good times.
*The Monster at the End of This Book*
This barely got my vote over "After School Special."  I'm not really fond of either episode but this one had Zachariah, Lilith, and Keegan Connor Tracy as Sera, so it got my vote.

    Group 14
    *The Rapture*
A favorite of mine.  The entire story was great.
    *Lucifer Rising*
A Fantastic finale.  Probably my favorite and maybe the best.  It was better than the schmaltzy season 5 finale.
    *Sympathy For the Devil*
It has Bobby, Meg, & Zachariah, so it beats out "Good God, Y'all" just barely.  I would have voted for GGY but I enjoyed this story more.

    Group 15
*Free to Be You and Me*
This was a good story and a good life lesson for Sam.  You can't run away from your troubles.
*The Curious Case of Dean Winchester*
A Fun filler episode.  Dean and Bobby were really great in this one.
    *Changing Channels*
Why?  Because it's not "The End."  I could do without either episode but there's no way in hell I'm voting for an "alternate future" episode.  In retrospect, I probably should have voted for "I Believe the Children Are Our Future" instead.

    Group 16
    *Abandon All Hope*
    Ellen & Jo.  'Nuff said.
    *Sam, Interrupted*
It's a good story and a good Dean episode.  It's also not "The Real Ghostbusters" or "Swap Meat" which is a huge bonus.
    *The Song Remains the Same*
I'm a sucker for young Mary and Anna.  It was a close call with My Bloody Valentine.  Famine was pretty cool.

    Merry Christmas, people.

  6. Poll 13:
Sex & Violence, Death Takes A Holiday, and On The Head Of A Pin - with It's A Terrible Life a close 4th. I found Chuck somewhat annoying so I couldn't possibly vote for TMatEoTB, and even though Dean in his tiny shorts was mildly amusing, I can't actually believe Dean Winchester would ever wear shorts like that EVER, so After School Special is a definite no vote.Poll 14:When the Levee Breaks, Lucifer Rising and Good God Y'all. I disliked Jump The Shark - I wish Adam never existed - he's a complication that still reverberates through the show almost 3 seasons later. I have no wish for him to return and I don't even care if we never find out what's happening to him in the pit. The Rapture held very little interest for me. Claire Novak was cool though.
    Poll 15:
The End (my favorite episode ever - so far) The Curious Case... because I loved the concept of Dean & Bobby as grumpy old men, and I really liked the way Sam bluffed the man witch at poker. And of course Changing Channels.
    Poll 16:
Abandon All Hope, Sam, Interrupted, and My Bloody Valentine. Because once again my OCD says I have to vote for 3. Thanks to Sam, Interrupted I added 'spectaculacular' to my vocabulary. MBV was very gory, and I spend more time not looking at the screen than actually watching it, but it's a good episode.

    ReplyDelete
  7. "Because I had to choose something."  That pretty much sums up how I feel about the mid4 - year 5 lineup.  I agree that Death takes a Holiday is completely underrated.  It came in feeling like another seal stoppage of the week case but turned into so much more.  Largely due that great recurring guest line-up you mention.  I however got sick of Castiel far earlier than you so my opinion on those episodes differ.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ha!  It seems like a lot of people are voting for episodes because they are NOT something else.  And here I thought I would be the only one.  I had to look up who
Keegan Connor Tracy was because I watch TMatEotB so rarely I didn't even remember the character name.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Ah, the little red shorts - just another reason why I am convinced that Dabb & Loflin have never actually seen an episode of Supernatural except for the ones that they write.  Definitely a fan favorite.  Definitely out-of-character. As was much of the episode.  I agree about Adam too.  He, Chuck, and Jesse are three plot holes I never need resolved.  I prefer to enter my own Supernatural world where none of them ever existed (or the angels), Jo was a kick-butt warrior, and all the good characters never died.

  10. Whoopie, another useless poll. BTW Dahne you can remove this comment too like you did the last one. Whoopie ( again. ) I guess this falls under condescending pompacity, unfortunately this site has went to shit since the fangirls took over and the sensless bickering about who is best has reached a boiling point. Unfortunately Supernatural has suffered and the writers actually included fandom bullshit into their episodes. The show is no longer fun anymore to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Round 1 - After School Special (I'm kind of a sucker for episodes that take us back to when the boys were young), On the Head of a Pin (yes, it was horribly depressing, but I thought the acting was fantastic), and Death Takes a Holiday

Round 2 - Lucifer Rising, The Rapture, and I suppose When the Levee Breaks

Round 3 - The End and Changing Channels were a pretty easy top two, and The Curious Case of Dean Winchester edged in at the end for my third vote

Round 4 - Abandon All Hope was an incredibly easy first choice, and The Song Remains the Same and My Bloody Valentine were fairly easy as well

    ReplyDelete
  12. I sort of did this. I have sort of vague impressions based on the episode titles. I tend to only remember SPN ep titles of the eps that really stand out to me. :/

  13. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and one of the things that's great about SpoilerTV is the tolerance for wide-ranging points of view. However, no one forces anyone to click on the links. No one forces anyone to watch a tv show that's no longer fun to watch. When I no longer enjoy watching a show I don't watch it any more. Neither do I comment on it, life's too short to be bitter over a tv show.
I'm sorry you no longer like Supernatural. Maybe you can find something else to watch that excites you?

  14. First of all,Merry Christmas!  : )
    Now..

13)On the Head of a Pin is the undeniable winner for so,so many reasons.Depressing as it was,it's in my Top 5!Dean torturing Alastair, the truth about the first seal,Sam killing Alastair..It was the first angel vs angel fight we saw and I literally cheered when Uriel died..Out of all the dick angels(Michael,Zachariah,Lucifer..) Uriel takes the crown with Raphael a close second. Also,we saw the dead angel's wings for the first time and I think it's one of the most creative effects in the show!
The Monster at the End of This Book comes next.It had Lilith,Zachariah and had both funny and cool scenes.
For the last one I was between Death Takes a Holiday and It's a Terrible Life, but I went with first because it had the Winchesters as ghosts,Tessa and Pamela.

14)Lucifer Rising! If only for the twist about Lilith being the last seal and because Ruby finally died. But the scenes with Sam killing Lilith and Dean trying to convince Cas to help him are favorites of mine.
The Rapture because I liked that we got to see a vessel's perspective. And Misha was amazing playing both Cas and Jimmy.
Sympathy for the Devil(with Good God,Y'All very close). It had the revelation about Michael,Zachariah proving how mental he is,Bobby preferring to hurt himself and not Dean and a cool entrance for Cas.

15)THE END!As I said yesterday,it shares the title for favorite episode with Lazarus Rising.Perfect acting from everyone.
Changing Channels and I don't really have to explain why.It had everything and Richard Speight Jr.And the whole Gabriel revelation was great!
Free to Be You and Me.I know Sam and Dean were separated, but I liked the episode. It was the only episode I found Raphael interesting. And even though there was the famous brothel scene,my personal favorite is Dean's face when Cas opened his badge upside down.

16)So easy!Abandon All Hope because it was perfect from start to finish and had the most memorable death scene.
The Song Remains The Same, because Sam finally got to see his parents,Michael appearing and the coolest(when it comes to effects) death scene.Even though I used to like Anna.
And despite how dangerous it is to think about My Bloody Valentine after the Christmas table it gets my final vote.
Sam,Interrupted was also good,The Real Ghostbusters had some fun moments but I want to point out that Swap Meat was the first time(and it only happened once more)that I pressed the fast forward button while watching an episode for the first time. It's lower than Bugs,it's probably at the very, very bottom of my list..

  15. yeah I do too :)

  16. Yeah, it took me pretty much the entire season 6 to realize the Cas storyline has run out of gas. I'm seriously concerned about him coming back now, even though I used to love him back in seasons 4 and 5 (season 4 especially).
I know we share the dislike for season 5, but I also know you're not a particular fan of season 4, which is my favourite.

Also, these polls made me realize (again) how much better season 7 is than seasons 5 and 6. It's definitely up there with seasons 2,3 and 4 for me (so far, of course).

  17. Round 13 Sex & Violence, Death Takes a Holiday, It's a Terrible Life
Round 14 Lucifer Rising, When the Levee Breaks, Good God Y'all
Round 15 The End, Changing Channels, The Curious Case of Dean Winchester
Round 16 Abandon All Hope, Sam Interrupted, no vote

    ReplyDelete
  18. I kind of like Jump the Shark, if not only for that scene between Dean and Sam where, Dean says Sam is more like their father, than he will ever be... I don't know why, I just love that scence

    ReplyDelete
  19. 13. Death Takes a Holiday, On the Head of a Pin, It's a Terrible Life
    14. Lucifer Rising, Sympathy for the Devil, Good God Y'all
    15. The End, The Curious Case of Dean Winchester, Changing Channels
    16. Abandon All Hope, The Song Remains the Same, My Bloody Valentine

  20. woo! season 5. i again found that in most of these oolls, choosing a third was the hardest part and sometimes i only did because i always feel the need to choose three.

poll 13: on the head of a pin. i just love this episode. its tense and exciting and all round awesome.
monstrr at the end of this book. i like chuck and it was funny seeing the brothers reactions when they first came across the books. i always enjoyed all the meta stuff which is also why i voted for real ghostbusters.
i found it really hard to choose a third one in this poll as none of the remaining eoisodes stood kut over the others for me. i ended up going with death takes a holiday but for no reason that i really know. maybe coz it had tessa.

poll14: the rapture, when the levee breaks and lucifer rising. i actually havent watched the end of season 4 in a while but i really enjoyed this run. i thought they were exciting, really moved the stor and were awesome. even if the fjght between sam and dean was my least favourite thing to happen in supernatural, i still really enjoyed the episodes

poll 15: the end. again an incredible episode and possibly in my top ten. the future was great. we saw the croatoan virus, hippy cas, double dean and lucifer sam, all played incredibly.
changing channels. well, this one was a no brainer for me. i love the comedy episodes and love love the trickster so this one too is also in my top ten. and the reveal that he was gabriel was awesome. and i just loved evrything they did in this episode. totally brilliant.
again, getting a third was hard. i went with i believe the children are our future simply because i liked it slighlty more than the other options.

poll 16: abandon all hope. brilliant episode again. between ellen and jo's emotional death to meeting and failing to kill lucifer, this episode was just awesome.
real ghostbuster, as i've said, i kike chuck and the whole book/convention scenario
song remains the same. this one was close between this and bloody valentine and i went with this because we went back to the past to see john and mary, we got rid of anna and met michael so it was a decent, packed episodes :-)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I love the EmoAngst episodes, and my all-time favorite episodes are, "On the Head of a Pin,"  "The Song Remains the Same," and "Sympathy for the Devil," so these were pretty easy polls for me.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm also worried about Cas' return.  If they do it only to bow to fan pressure then it is going to suck out loud.  It is going to have to make sense and take care of the original problems which caused them to kill Cas off in the first place.  If it puts us back in the same position we were in, basically sticking Cas in wily nily for the sole purpose of having him around or keeping him as the big "get-out-of-writer's-block-free card" then I will part of the next group of vocal fans.

I have been overall impressed with season 7 so far.  I think it's been the best since midseason 4 and I hope it keeps up the momentum.  There have been a few clunkers but really the season has been solid so far.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I usually like the flash back episodes too, especially in A Very Supernatural Christmas.  This one just seemed off to me and I wasn't sold with Brock Kelly's performance.  I'm glad you found at least some of the choices easy.  For the most part, today's voting made me ponder and cringe.  Looking forward to easier choices next round.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks for sharing all your reasons.  You are dead on with all the surprise twists Supernatural gives us.  The Trickster turning out to be Gabriel is one of my absolute favorites and as much as I didn't enjoy the plot, Lilith being the final seal was shocking as well.  It's awesome that so many years into the series, the writers are still capable of taking us by surprise.  Merry Christmas to you too.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ha!  I see you couldn't come up with 3 either.  When starting these polls I never thought there would be a time when I didn't vote because I didn't like the choices.  Guess it shows how good Supernatural is when it is on fire because even when I didn't care for the season plot, it was still my favorite show on air.  Burn Notice came shockingly close that year, but it was still Supernatural in the end, just as it has been for 7 years now.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Merry Christmas to you too.  Glad it was a good one.  I totally agree with your assessment of IBtCaOF and Swap Meat.  Complete drek.  I even looked up Swap Meat to see if it was written by Dabb & Loflin but it wasn't.  IBtCaoF of course IS written by them.  I also agree that Fallen Idols is underrated in the fandom.  It could have been just terrible, especially when hearing Paris Hilton was in it, but it ended up being solid throughout with lots of laughs and a pretty good commentary about the sad state of celebrity these days.  As for pre-Mary burning John, I found him a mixed basket because the writers couldn't decide whether we were supposed to feel sorry for him or not.  He was completely sympathetic in The Song Remains the Same but then in Dark Side of the Moon, just 3 episodes later, they implied that he was a jerk who regularly abandoned his family when he got mad.  I really think writers should have a guidebook to characters on this show or at least watch it.  It's hard when they make directly opposite things canon.  As for Good God, Y'All.  I think you are mixing it up with Are You There God?  It's Me, Dean Winchester.  GGY has Rufus, Ellen, Jo, and War in it.  It was good seeing those recurring characters too even if I wasn't originally an Ellen and Jo fan.  Re-watching this episode always makes me miss Rufus, even more than Ellen and Jo.  With TCCoDW, I never really thought of how the accent would grate on native Irish.  I thought it was charming but I can see how that could be a big pet peeve if Hollywood were always getting it wrong.  Thanks for bringing it up; it will catch my attention more in the future.  A definite advantage to having an international fan base to converse with.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ha!  I take it you weren't a huge fan of Anna then.  Have to say that along with Ava, she had the biggest character turn around in the series.  Got to be wary of a "good guy" with a plan on Supernatural.  It almost always turns nasty and they turn psychotic.  I wish we had gotten a little more with Michael.  We certainly had all Lucifer's emo so I thought we'd get more on Michael but I guess following orders as a motivation is a little dull on camera.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think that's why Supernatural is still around as a series.  Things that some people absolutely hate are the very same things that other people adore.  Thank goodness they usually mix things up often so that everybody gets something they love on a regular basis.

    ReplyDelete
  29. oh, don't get me wrong, there was a lot of cringing haha.. this group of episodes had a lot of angst!  but some made me cringe much more than others

    ReplyDelete
  30. 1.  On the Head of a Pin had Emmy quality acting between Jensen and Christopher Heyerdahl.   If for no other reason, I would pick this one. I also liked Monster at the End of this Book and It's a Terrible Life was plain enjoyable.
    2.  Lucifer Rising was fabulous.  I know a large number of people who jumped out of their seats and screamed YES when Sam held Ruby and Dean got to drive that knife in.   I also chose When the Levee Breaks and Sympathy for the Devil.  I would add Good God Ya'll but you are only allowing three. lol

    3.  The End was one of my favorite episodes of Season 5.  Jensen's acting was tremendous.  Jared knocked the part of Lucifer out of the ball park.   I enjoyed Changing Channels.  It was funny but had some serious undertones.  It was hard picking a third because none of the rest were really on my favorite list, but Free to be You and Me was the best of the remaining episodes.

    4.  Abandon All Hope was by far the best of this group.  I cried my eyes out.  The only other one I could even add was Sam Interrupted.  It had its moments.    I'll never forget PUDDING as I live. lol.  Both boys played the parts they were given to the max and I admire that..  I can't stand Becky and My Bloody Valentine, although a fairly good story, made me throw up.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It would be easier to vote for episodes I don't like as there are really just a handful of them...and even those have amazing moments with Sam & Dean being Sam & Dean in them. This show is the best show on tv

    ReplyDelete
  32. These are all very difficult to vote because I don't really like seasons 4 and 5 too much, but here goes.

    Poll 1
I'm going for Sex and Violence because it was a really interesting ep, and the insight the siren had into Dean was so accurate.
I also liked that Sam got a little bit of appreciation from the lady doctor, and had a light moment in the midst of all the angst he was suffering. :)
Then what a great fight scene between the brothers.

     Death takes a Holiday.
I like Pamela and Tessa, and even as ghosts the boys managed to get the better of Alastair, after they had been duly trained by the child ghost. :)

    It's a Terrible Life.
No doubts here. One of my favourite eps. in absolute.
I like to see how Sam and Dean react in lives and surroundings different to their own.
This is also a sweet, light-hearted episode in the middle of all the desperation that usually abounds.

I intensly dislike "On the Head of a Pin"  I hate to see torture scenes of any kind and when it's Dean to suffer it I hate it even more, because for me, it was he who was tortured, not Alastair and Castiel should never have asked him to do it. Nothing to say about the terrific acting though.

I was going to vote  for After SS, not because it's a great episode but because I am a sucker for the brothers' back-story, :) I'll vote for it next time

    Poll 2
There is only one ep. that I would vote for here and that is Lucifer Rising.
Good-bye Ruby, I hope Sam and Dean got as much satisfaction as I did.:)

Jump the Shark was such an "unexpected ep" at the time that I was left reeling, but later we get the why of it all. So I'm gonna vote it for the surprise factor.

I'm voting with clenched teeth here, but I'll go wth Sympathy for the Devil as it gives us our introduction to the Devil's character.

The Rapture did nothing for me, and the sight of Sam in the panic room having to undergo all the pain of detox and hateful visions In When The Levee Breaks was too heart-breaking.

    Poll 3
The only ones I really vote for with passion are The End and Changing Channels, both amongst my favourite eps.

I'll go with The Curious Case of Dean Winchester because the Patrick character was so amusing and Sam winning in the poker game was exciting.

Free to be You and Me was too depressing, I hated the boys being separated like that.
"I Believe The Children are Our Future was absolutely useless to the story- arc although the pranks were funny.
Fallen Idols was quirky but not really a favourite.

    Poll 4
"Sam Interrupted" because the whole idea was unusual, and a doped up Sam and dozzy Dean were so cute.
The initial scene was amusing. They tell the truth but are seen as crazy. :)

"The Song Remains The Same" always  for the Winchester back story. Sam gets to talk to his Dad  and see his mother and Dean gets to know more about Michael.

"My Bloody Valentine " I know this is a gross ep. but I liked the idea of the cravings and Famine was played so well and was so revolting. I cheered when Sam took him out even if he had to go through all the detox again  Then how can one not like the hugging Cupid!
    .
"Abandon all Hope" was Ok" and I liked Swap Meat too, although I'm probably one of the few.

I will draw a curtain on "The Real Ghostbusters" my least fav ep ever.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Totally with you Dahns. I hated most of s4, but particularly the latter half, and the first few eps of s5. IMO the decision to estrange the bis was OOC, and a betrayal of the heart of the show. FTBYAM is my least favourite SPN ep ever. So I've struggled with this round. Love CC, SI and a few others, but most I didn't enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I liked a lot of eps this season though you couldn't tell by my voting in round 17.  ( I got Fallen Idols and Hammer of the Gods confused.  I hope my screwiness isn't throwing things off too much.)

15 - Monster at the End of the Book,  It's a Terrible Live, and After School Special
16 - When the Levee Breaks, Lucifer Rising, Jump the Shark  (hey, I liked the ep)
17 - The End ( I really liked this ep...with the only weak point Jered's Lucifer), Changing Channels (I like
the funny eps.)  and Fallen Idols (cause I'm an idiot.  If I'd been thinking it would have been:  I
Believe the Children are Our Future)
18 - Real Ghostbusters, Abandon All Hope, and my Bloody Valentine.

  35. Oh my God, you're right, I did mix up GGY'A and Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester, that's pretty embarassing! *hangs head in shame* As it happens, it probably wouldn't change my vote anyway, I really enjoyed GGY'A despite the brothers' split at the end, I am quite the fan of Rufus, Ellen and Jo (particularly Rufus), plus War was my second favourite horseman (after Death) and I *loved* the song playing ('Spirit in the Sky' by Norman Greenbaum) as Sam and Dean came into the town and witnessed all the destruction.

Good point about pre-fire John, I hadn't even considered that, but yeah, the differences in the way his character is portrayed in different episodes would fairly make your head spin. *waves goodbye to the continuity fairy* With respect to the Irish accent in TCCoDW, it's not the worst I've heard by a long, LONG shot (look up 'Darby O' Gill and the Little People' for my own personal antithesis), but even though it is the Irish accent that seems to be prevalent in TV/movies, particularly those made in the US, it's an accent I've never really heard here in Ireland! I doubt you're that interested, but if you did want to hear real Irish accents, 'The Wind that Shakes the Barley' would be a great movie to watch. It's also a great movie full stop, which helps! I also agree with you about the international fanbase: possibly my favourite thing about being involved in the Supernatural fanbase is the people I've met all over the world. Thanks to Supernatural, I now have friends in Germany, Romania, the US, New Zealand, Australia, Canada...the list goes on, it's amazing!

  36. Poll 13: First one easy On The Head Of A Pin, found out a lot about Deans time in Hell and I do love to hate Alastair. It's A Terrible Life is next because the guys find out how boring their life could have been and had some great lines. Death Takes A Holiday I liked just because it is an out of body ep, I love these and time travel.

Poll 14 The last 3 ep of season 4 are my picks, The Rapture and seeing Jimmy Novak and what he went thru to let Castiel take over his body, is one of my top ep.  When the Levee Breaks, nice build up to the last seal.  Lucifer Rising, finally Sam see Ruby for what she is and helps kill her, Lucifer rises and the "fun and games" start.

Poll 15 First Pick is The End, again time travel and seeing the future. Loved Hippie Cas and Sam as Lucifer.  Free To Be You & Me, Sam trying to get out of hunting and Dean taking Cas to get laid. Some very funny scenes.  Last but not least is I Believe The Children Are Our Future just for the Hairy Palm scene, laughed so hard even had my parrot laughing.

Poll 16 Easy first one Abandon All Hope, Jo & Ellen die for nothing, Colt does not kill Lucifer. The Song Remains The Same, excellent time travel ep, My Bloody Valentine just because it moves the Horsemen story along and Sam drinking blood.

  37. Bravo, well said.  I often wonder how people can complain about everything in a show but one character and still watch.  I have a life and just stop watching the ones I dislike more than I like. lol

    ReplyDelete
  38. Brock Kelly is my least favorite Dean, just not how I thought Dean would be.  Loved both young Sam & Dean in AVSC.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Talking about guide books for writers, this is off topic, but, and I don't remember ep names, when Sam is brought back, Crowley said he brought him back, then much later Cas said he did.  So who did bring back Sam?  Am I just remembering it wrong? Next time I do a marathon will write down the eps.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You're right, both Cas and Crowley claimed to have been the ones who brought back Sam, however, in Crowley's case it was just a claim, a ploy designed to give him leverage over Sam and Dean so that he could force them to keep working for him. With Castiel, he was actually telling the truth (I think), so it was Cas who brought Sam back, in body anyway. Hope this clears things up!

    ReplyDelete
  41. LOL, with SPN it is hard to keep track with who is telling the truth.  If Cas brought him back, did he also bring back Samuel?  And if so why?  He I would believe Crowley brought back.  So Sam in Hell an Angel brings back and Samuel in Heaven?? a demon brings back.  I am so confused. lol  To me Samuel should never have been in Heaven in the first place.

  42. It was a difficult poll for me. Season four and five were such  epic and innovative seasons ... here we go :

poll 13 : " monster at the end of the book"
Great example of how to combine plot and humour
"Castiel: You should have seen Luke",  "Dean: They do know we're brothers, right? Sam: It doesn't seem to matter."

special mention goes to "on the head of a pin" which I loved too and  "after school special" (the episode wasn't that great
but it's always such a joy to learn more about Dean and Sam youth).

    poll14: "the rapture"
TPTB gave us an episode which shed some light on  Castiel host : Jimmy Novak.
The faithful and naive ordinary man who like the brothers didn't hesitate to sacrifice himself for the safety of his family.
Great stuff and an outstanding performance from Misha Collins.
"Dean :More private? We're inside my head." "Cas : Exactly."

poll15: "Free to Be You and Me"
I think that The staff did a great job with the temporary separation of Sam and Dean.
The opening montage is a great example of it.
Dean teaching Cas the fine art of being human was hilarious and the confrontation with Raphael was fantastic.
"Dean: You were wasted by a Teenage Mutant Ninja Angel?"

Another hard choice : "changing channel",  "the end" and "free to be you and me" are three favourite of mine .

    poll16: "abandon all hope"
Cas stalking Crowley and later facing the devil himself. Jo and Ellen heartbreaking sacrifice.
I loved how the episode gave us a glimpse of how Castiel see the world, like with the reapers and the enochian warding.
And of course, the shocking realisation that the colt didn't work on Lucifer ... leaving the boys helpless and hopeless.
    Amazing episode!
"Cas: I think I'm starting to feel something"

  43. You can vote for 3 eps in each poll.  I would have still been thinking about which to vote for if I could have only picked one.  The hard part is going to be when we start having a heads-up.  That is going to be brutal. lol

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think they wanted to ratchet up the tension with the blood junkie Sam story line and its aftermath, but for me they could have done this better simply by making the Apocalypse actually scary.  Let's face it.  The Apocalypse is supposed to be huge but it never came across that way.  Instead we got fighting brothers and then hopeless, defeated heroes.  Not my idea of fun.

  45. If I am ever unsure about a title, I go to IMDB.  They are great for providing info and most importantly, how to spell people's names.  :-)  Here's the Supernatural page for IMDB:

  46. If I had the angel time travel network, I would go back in time and have them use Ridge Canipe again.  Not only did I mostly believe he was a young Dean but he even looked a little like Jensen Ackles.  I definitely prefer him.

    ReplyDelete
  47. OH YES, Colin and Ridge were excellent.

  48. Thanks for the movie suggestion.  I put it in my instant stream queue on Netflix.  I'll let you know what I think after I watch it (but that has to be after my Leverage and White Collar marathons).  As for John, Flo seems to be allergic to him.  She disappears every time he gets on screen or even at the mention of his name.  I really don't blame her though.  Don't worry about the mixup.  At over 100 episodes it is hard for me to keep track of what's what and I frequently head to IMDB to make sure I'm talking about the right episode.  I flip Family Matters and Family Remains all the time.  Bad news is that I love one and hate the other.  I also totally forgot about Spirit in the Sky as a top musical choice.  Will have to add that when we do the song poll. I guess there's a Supernatural marathon in my future too.

    ReplyDelete
  49. You're totally right.  How stupid of me.
Well that's a lot easier thank to you.
    lol

    poll 13 :
" monster at the end of the book"
"on the head of a pin"
    "after school special"

    poll14:
    "the rapture"
    "lucifer rising"
    "good god, y'all"

    poll15:
"Free to Be You and Me"
    "changing channel"
    "the end"

    poll16:
    "abandon all hope"
    "my bloody valentine"
    "the song remains the same"

  50. I honestly do NOT think Grandpa Creepy was in heaven.  He had to be in hell for Crowley to pay him a visit.  My guess is that he wanted to sound better than he was but he actually jumped at the chance to get out of hell.  Of course we don't know the truth about him or Sam.  Everything is guessing because at that time period both Cas and Crowley were saying whatever it took to get the Winchesters to do what they wanted.  In fact, while I believe Cas did not mean to bring Sam back soulless, I would bet money that he knew Sam was soulless that first night he was back.  No way Cas didn't know until he stuck his hand inside Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sam, Interrupted not only gave fans a moment to breath in the angst but I think Jensen and Jared appreciated the levity of it too.  You can just feel them having fun in some of the scenes.  When drugged up Sam got Dean's nose, I had to hold on to the bed to keep from rolling off in laughter.  It was a much needed break and I will always treasure that scene.  I also agree that there was some tremendous acting in season 4 and 5.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think I like It's a Terrible Life so much because of its placement in season 5.  If it had been in the middle of a plotline I liked, I probably would have dismissed it as a typical filer episode.  However, since it gave us the smallest break from the whole angel-demon drama, at least until the end, it instantly becomes one of my favorite episodes of the season.  There's nothing like good timing.  Agree also about the fight scene between Dean and Sam in Sex and Violence.  It has to be in my top 3 brother fights along with the Pilot and Skin.  Although usually I can do without brother fights.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I can buy an Angel getting someone out of hell, but not a demon getting someone out of Heaven and the last person that should be in Heaven was Samuel. ;)  I'm with you and don't believe Cas left Sam's soul on purpose.

    ReplyDelete
  54. It will be difficult for I Believe the Children are Our Future to get into the ranking for the summer on its own so it will have to make it through the wild card division.  Basically the bottom episodes based on voting percentage will have their own contest to see which ones make it into the big battle over the summer.  Only the top 28 will go on.  The good news is that it will be competing with other poorly ranked episodes so it may have a shot.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Love all the quotes.  I've been toying with the idea of a best quotes poll but I think even the nomination phase would be overwhelming.  How do you choose favorite quotes when there are gems every single episode.

    ReplyDelete
  56. LOL, Location, Location, Location.. My favorite fight was Swan Song, even though Dean did none of the fighting, just him being there saying over and over I will not leave you, I'm here and the part Baby played in it all.  Still sob thru the whole scene.  What I LOVE about SPN fights is people do NOT come out of it still pretty.  We get to see cuts, bruises and hospitals and depending on time line in the ep, some cuts, etc stay around.  I do hate a show that no one gets hurt in these brutal fights.

    ReplyDelete
  57. That's great idea !

But as you say, that's quite a challenge to take up. It would cause a massive headache in the spn spoilertv community lol!
    Still, I would love it.

thank you for this poll BTW

  58. I'm sure Cas sensed that Sam was souless the moment he saw him.
Cas pride is his biggest flaw. I think he didn't say he made a mistake because he was ashamed

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think he didn't admit he knew about Sam being soulless right away because RoboSam fit his purposes too well.  I think it was a calculating decision to use RoboSam to find and kidnap Alphas more than the idea that Cas thought re-souling Sam would hurt him.

    ReplyDelete
  60. You might very well be right.
    I didn't thought about that but I'm a little Cas-biased.  lol
I need to re-watch the shirtless ... I mean souless Sam episodes.

  62. I think if you rewatch 'The Man Who Would Be King', you'll see that there's a conversation between Cas and Crowley where Crowley specifically says that he's going to bring back Grandpa Creepy (who is, I would assume, in hell). I'm a bit sketchy on the details because it's been a while since I've seen the episodes, but I'm fairly sure that happens.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Leverage, White Collar and Supernatural marathons, sounds like heaven! I first have to catch up on Leverage though, I'm two episodes behind (still haven't seen 'Boys Night Out' *headslap), and my White Collar marathon has been stalled at 2.09 (Point Blank) for about a week, because I got a season and a half in and then my sister decided she wanted to watch, so we went back to the beginning, and we're just about to watch the season 1 finale now!

I'm looking forward to the song poll very much as well, though there are going to be some tough choices, particularly from earlier seasons, when there was so much awesome music in every episode...didn't know how lucky we were! I'd have to say though, even now, I can't see anything other than 'Carry On My Wayward Son' winning outright, it's just the epitome of everything Supernatural.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Just finished The Man Who Would Be King, one of my favorite eps because it is Cass' POV.  Got the part about taking Gramps off the bench, I knew he had to be in HELL and pretty sure he was sent back. lol  Thanks for the heads up.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yeah, I'm guessing it will be the ultimate winner although if the category is best song to scene match I wouldn't vote for it.  I don't think you can top Renegade at the end of Nightshifter.  With the exception of an episode or two of Cold Case, I don't think there has ever been a more solid match of song to scene on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Thanks. I prefer tv.com myself. I just find it easier to navigate. :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ah, I had forgotten that moment, I *love* Renegade at the end of Nightshifter! I 100% agree, I can't think of a moment in TV that has a more appropriate musical setting! I just love the montage to the almost melancholy opening, and the Dean says 'We're so screwed.' and the beat kicks in! "The jig is up, the news is out, they've finally found me..." Just brilliant.

  68. Love this poll!
    My votes included:
-After School Special because...um...Jensen in that PE teacher getup? Yeah. Shallow I know. Also, the Weechesters! I love every time there is a flashback ep and it's kind of sad that we probably won't see too many more of them.
-On The Head of a Pin because I kind of love tortured Dean. I was glad to see more of Dean's time in hell explored in this one and I feel like Jensen was pretty amazing.

-When the Levee Breaks. Oh Sam. Why oh why didn't you listen to your brother. I hate this one for the fighting and separation of the brothers, but both actors give such amazing performances. And again, I have a thing for the angst and the tortured souls of the boys.
-Lucifer Rising. We learn the true intentions of Zachariah and the angels, and we get that wonderful moment of Bobby yelling at Dean. Love that moment in the beginning of the ep. Also...Ruby. My relationship with the character Ruby has been up and down. I didn't like her when she was first introduced in s3, then started to like her, then didn't like her again, then when the new actress came on I definitely saw the hints of betrayal in her performance but still found myself second guessing if she was genuine in her insistence of killing Lillith. Anyways...this ranks with s1 and s3 as best season finale.
-Sympathy for the Devil; poor guys. Dean can't hardly contain his disappointment in Sam and Sam is trying so hard to make what he did right. I hate this one because it's the start of a looooooong (in SPN-world) couple of eps with the boys apart, but it's rife with angst which again, I kind of like in a twisted way.

-The End. Love seeing Jensen playing Dean at different points in time. And since this is the only glimpse of the Apocalypse, it's interesting in that regard.
-I Believe the Children...I like this one for what it represents for Sam. And the idea of the "antichrist" with a heart is quite interesting. I dunno. I just like this one! Also...we get that amazing whoopie cushion scene with Castiel. haha! (yes, I find some of that stuff funny...)
-Changing Channels because we get the Trickster but then we learn he's really the archangel Gabriel. Also, all the TV show scenes are hilarious and quite creative and it's just good old fun.

-Sam, Interrupted. I like this one for what it does to both guys. They nearly don't solve the case because they are both affected by the monster. Also, it guest stars Jon Gries whom I ADORE (The Pretender anyone? EPIC).
-The Song Remains the Same. I love young John and Mary, and one of my favorite scenes is when Dean tells Mary that he's her son. And the scene with John driving the Impala with the boys in the backseat? Yep. I find this episode very genuine emotionally and I like that about it.
-My Bloody Valentine. We start seeing a lot more Dean angst here with him being unaffected by Famine.  Also...Cupid.

  69. These polls are giving me Supernatural feelings. I need a rewatch... but I dont have TIME! omg... why cant we watch a season in like 2-3 hours. I need a timemachine

    ReplyDelete
  70. LOL, have to agree with you, finished season 7 again and am already on S2...again.  I can just watch this series in a loop and never get tired of it.  All about FAMILY and having each others back thru thick and thin.  Love my brothers and favorite Angel.

    ReplyDelete
  71. :S Yeah I've been doing that with Glee lately wich is way more embarassing to admit HAHA. got buffy s1-7 for christmas and still havnt watched firefly I have to STOP doing the loop thingy.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm in the minority in that I did not like Buffy, the character, but loved my first vampire love, Spike.  He is the ONLY reason I stayed with the show thru 7 seasons.  Firefly is so good and my favorite ep is Out of Gas, have watched that series several times also.  But nothing keeps me coming back like SPN.  Have watched Roswell many times and Veronica Mars also.  And the thing is I had not seen any of those shows until I got DVDs.  Got started in s3 of SPN, a friend kept bugging me until I watched, then bought S1 & 2, I adore this show.

    ReplyDelete
  73. DAMN VERONICA MARS! That's what I wanted to buy today! Fuck! ahahah! Now I need to go back I need that show. So many creyx for no season 4. LOVED LOGAN! I dont think I can rewatch season 3, it hurts. My logan is changed and its ending and HU.

Roswell, I was SO in love with that show. 5 years after it stoped airing in my contry i found out there was an OTHER season. kinda sucky but i was so happy i need that series too. Love me some ... ? max's brother haah. oh and Kyle (the kids sherif, gosh I love him, started watch revenge for him LOVE HIM)

this conversation is gonna cost me 200$ in dvds haah.

I was so young when I watched Buffy I just like it for the memories, I like watching my old shows. And I just love vampires and monsters. But yeah I'm watching season 1 right now and lol not liking half the episodes. ehehe. It,s crazy I remember everything and its been 5-7 years. I like all the caracters better then buffy though :P

oh gosh, I wanna watch Veronica :( ~ Veronica's dad is the BEST caracter and actor. lovelovelove him.

    shutting up now :P

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ha, good eye, I did not catch that Jack was the same guy from Roswell and yes I love Revenge and Jack.  That is one very weird show.

Agree with you on Enrico Colantoni he was awesome as Veronica's dad, he was on something else recently, don't remember what as I did not watch it.

Look at the DVD cost as something that you can use over & over & over..do they ever wear out??  Gosh I sure hope not. LOL

Did you like Jason Dohring as Josef in Moonlight?  He had some great one liners in that also, just the writers did not use him enough.  He is also not on Ringer enough for me, he is the bright spot as far as acting goes on that show.

    ReplyDelete
  75. he's in Flashpoint and does a lot of onetime episodes like bones last year ahah. makes me so happy everytime i see him :D

Omg when I saw him in ringer... I think I died HAHAH! I just wanted a romance with Juliette so we see him more. JUST GIVE ME MORE OF HIM FOR CRISE SAKES! And omg, I LOVED Moonlight soo much *creys* sttop it! That show would have worked so well if it aired 1 year later! They were early on the vampire crazyness. stupid network move stupid! fuck i gotta by that. need it.
