Well votes are in for the big summer Ultimate Episode battle. Now we just have to wait for the remaining episodes from season 7 to air. (And also vote if you haven't voted in round 3, round 4, round 5, or round 6 yet.) To kick off the rest of the week before the winter hiatus ends, let's look at season 7 so far. Highest 8 episodes proceed to the head-to-head. The lowest 2 get booted from the contest. This poll is only open until midnight tomorrow so please vote your top 5 choices and pass the word. Oh and don't forget to spout off in the comments about them.
Also here is your chance to nominate five episodes for the best SPN comedy episode. The nominations will be open for 3 days and the poll will go live as soon as I can tally all the nominations. Have fun thinking of all the episodes that made you laugh.

Season 7 choices - Meet the New Boss, Hello, Cruel World, Slash Fiction, How to win Friends... and Death's Door. Very, very easy. As far as the comedy nominations, I'm going to have to think about it a little more. Soon many good ones to choose from. I know Changing Channels, Bad Day at Black Rock, and Mystery Spot will be nominations but the remaining two I'm debating.
ReplyDeletebut The Mentalists was also sooo good :D
ReplyDeleteMeet the New Boss, Hello, Cruel World, Slash Fiction, How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters and Death's Door. Death's Door is one of the best ever Supernatural episodes . At least I think so. I've only watched it twice because it leaves me absolutely gutted. Apart from that - it's pretty much perfect. ;)
ReplyDeleteAs to funny episodes, I need to think about that. I will definitely be nominating The French Mistake. I still can't watch the bad acting scene without a ridiculous ear to ear grin on my face.
Shut Up, Dr. Phil and The Mentalists would be in my votes if we could vote for more than 5. For me, more interesting than which episode gets the most votes will be which 2 get the least. There are 3 I heartily dislike so I'm anxious to see how others feel.
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the three people who voted for "Time For a Wedding." Becky's irritating as hell, but she's a good character, and I enjoyed watching her over-the-top devotion to her man.
ReplyDeleteFrench Mistake topped my short list but in the end I decided it would probably get enough nominations so I chose some of my favorite smaller gems. I will kick myself though if it doesn't make it in.
ReplyDeleteIt's not in my bottom two which surprises me because I generally find Becky to be a deal breaker in any episode. Instead, I found her tolerable until well into the middle of the episode. It was a huge improvement for me.
ReplyDeleteTop 5 funniest/best comedy

Supernatural Comedies:
- Yellow Fever
- Bad Day at Black Rock
- Changing Channels

Season 7: Meet the New Boss, Hello, Cruel World, Slash Fiction, How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters, Death's Door
ReplyDeleteComedies: Bad Day at Black Rock, Mystery Spot, Monster Movie, Changing Channels, The French Mistake
Season 7 choices were pretty easy for me - Meet the New Boss, Hello, Cruel World, Slash Fiction, Death's Door, and How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters.
ReplyDeleteComedy-wise, I had to think a bit.. ultimately, The French Mistake, Changing Channels, and Mystery Spot came up first.. I could remember laughing aloud at each of them, multiple times, so they were easy noms. After reflecting a bit, I added Bad Day at Black Rock and Yellow Fever. Watching Sam stare dejectedly at his lost shoe will never cease to be funny, and Dean's terror in YF was hilarious.
I'm starting to wonder if I should have thought more on the comedic eps, but for now I'm happy.
Dahne,
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your hard work in doing these polls as well as the summer hellatus polls. Even though some of the summer polls feel like evil torture and make me want to pull my hair out rather than choose between two of my favorite episodes; your polls make hellatus more bearable.
The French Mistake
ReplyDeleteChanging Channels
Mystery Spot
Bad Day at Black Rock
Swap Meat
Your 5 were my 5.
ReplyDeleteseason 7 was easy. i think i went with the most common choices, those being meet the new boss, hello cruel world, slash fiction, how to win friends and and influence monsters and deaths door. all amazing episodes. i have enjoyed basically all of season 7 so far except for the minor amy incident which i choose to overlook. but so far this season is looking to be great.
ReplyDeletecomedy was much harder to pick as there are so many.
my obvious 3 were bad day ta black rock, the french mistake and changing channels. then i had to pick two more. i tried to go with some that i didn't think would get as many votes as the more obvious mystery spot (which is my all time favourite episode in case anyone was wondering) so i ended up going with tall tales because i love anything to do with the trickster and the other two with him will overshoadow this one and it is really funny.
i also went with hell house. i really enjoyed watching the boys pull pranks on each other. even though i know some people don't like the ghostfacers, i find them quite amusing and i enjoyed this and ghostfacers but hell house had the added bonus of watching sam glue dean's hand to his beer.
but there are so many to choose from, i can't wait for this to get started although i have some idea of what the top few are gonna be :D
we picked the same episodes for season 7 :D
ReplyDeletechoosing only 5 comedy episodes was hard
i think i laughed more the first time i saw the bad acting scene than i have in any other tv show i have ever watched. it was just so well done. normally actors trying to act badly don't do it very well but they were so believable!
ReplyDeletei did that method with mystery spot but dw, i voted for french mistake
ReplyDeleteChoices for season 7: Meet the New Boss, Hello Cruel World, Slash Fiction (one of my favorite eps, I just love the Leviachesters), How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters, and Death's Door. Very easy.
ReplyDeleteMy nominations for comedy eps: Mystery Spot (my all time favorite episode EVER), Changing Channels, Bad Day at Black Rock, Tall Tales, and The French Mistake.
Hah, I picked the same ones for season 7!
ReplyDeleteDeath's Door is definitely one of the best episodes, possibly even in my top ten. (Never my number one, that is firmly Mystery Spot, but Death's Door is sooo good.)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't breathe, I laughed so hard during that scene. Even during rewatches, I crack up there every time without fail.
ReplyDeleteI didn't vote for Time For a Wedding, but I actually really enjoyed it. I was a bit surprised when I saw all the hate for it. :P Becky's annoying, but the episode was amusing, and Sam was adorable under the effects of the potion. X3
ReplyDeleteI think most of us chose those eps for season 7. I know I did! They're all fantastic episodes, and my favorite of those are Death's Door and Slash Fiction.
ReplyDeleteMystery Spot! That's my all time favorite episode ever as well! *high fives* It's so amazing, and no matter how many times I rewatch it, I never get tired of it.
I more or less know what the favourite nominations will be so I wanted to nominate others that I enjoyed too and which are hardly ever considered.
ReplyDeleteSo, Red Sky At Morning--- I loved the Bela- -brothers interaction. Her utter lack of ethics was a foil for Sam and Deans' more moral outlook and it was amusing to see their verbal exchanges.
Swap Meat---I liked this episode. I loved that the annoying teens got their just desserts and "teen " Sam was amusing!
Clap Your Hands If You Believe.
Souless Sam was so funny in this ep as were Dean's responses to him. There were some confusing moments in it. No-one ever explained the Red-hatted guy, which they could have done by cutting out a minute elsewhere.
Monster Movie---needs no explanation.
Tall Tales--- which I didn't appreciate initially but rewatching, it sort of grew on me.
Season 7 votes were easy - Leviathan episodes + midseason finale:
ReplyDeleteMeet the New Boss
Hello, Cruel World
Slash Fiction
How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters
Death's Door
I also loved Shut Up, Dr Phil, it would've been my next choice.
as for nominating comedy episodes:
1. Bad Day at Black Rock - still my fav comedy episode EVER
2. The French Mistake
3. Changing Channels
4. Tall Tales
5. Clap Your Hands if You Believe
now I love, LOVE Mystery Spot, but somehow I never considered it a comedy episode. Only half of it is comedy, the rest is tragic and sad. Mystery Spot is more of a whole package episode for me. It's absolutely perfect and IMO naming it a comedy episode doesn't do justice to it.
My choices were...the same as yours! :D
ReplyDeleteI love everything about season seven! It was so hard to choose.
ReplyDeleteI like them all so it was difficult to choose. I chose Hello, Cruel World, Defending Your Life, Slash Fiction, How to Win Friends.... and Death's Door. It was a great season so far. Mystery Spot, Changing Channels, and Bad Day at Black Rock were no problem. Then I had problems but I love Yellow Fever and the scenes of good actors playing bad and the other one liners made French Mistake my fifth. Not that I possibly wouldn't change it later. I also loved Tall Tales
ReplyDeleteWe had the same votes.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I had a definite list and then a short list but together those lists made about 9 episodes. I ended up cutting out some favorites hoping they would get enough votes from others.
ReplyDeleteI left out French Mistake too for the same reason. Good news is that it seems to have lots of fans. It's currently the most nominated episode. However, I am surprised by how much variety there is in the nominations, including a couple I never would have thought of as comedies. 36 episodes nominated so far.
ReplyDeleteYou have good taste. :-) Mystery Spot is in my top 5 of all-time and Death's Door is rapidly climbing my list. However, my favorite is What is and What Should Never Be. I can't imagine anything knocking it off.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel better, Season 7, Time for a Wedding is getting some love in the best comedy nominations. It will definitely be in the contest.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness there are five choices for season 7 episodes! As with most everyone else here, I chose Meet the New Boss, Hello Cruel World, How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters, and Death's Door. I can't say much more about these episodes that hasn't already been said. Just that the first two were a very, very strong one-two punch to open the season, and the latter two were a very strong one-two punch to end the first half of the season. Everyone brought their best to these episodes, and the relationships and bonds between the three J's was at it's most impressive and wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMy fifth choice I feel is not as popular, though after reading some comments it appears it's not as unpopular as the other episodes either. I voted for The Mentalists. Not only did we get to witness "cold shoulder" Sam and a Dean trying hard to reach his brother but we got what I think is one of the strongest one-off female guest stars in Dorian Brown as Melanie Golden. I found her chemistry with Jensen to be quite intoxicating, and I would love to see her again...but I don't hold out much hope in that regard. I know the script for The Mentalists had some rough spots but it was also a very strong effort, and I found the lighting and production of the entire episode to be completely gorgeous. Yes, I have a very warm spot in my heart for this one!
As for comedy...well I seem to have followed similar suit there as well; Changing Channels, Bad Day At Black Rock, French Mistake, Yellow Fever, and The Real Ghostbusters. I know which of these makes me laugh hardest (BDABR) so we'll see what wins!
With all the love for Death's Door right now, I wouldn't be surprised if it won overall for season 7 this summer. It was definitely one of the best for me too.
ReplyDelete"I lost my shoe" and Dean's reaction may be the single funniest line to me. Sam looks so sad and Dean looks like an exasperated older brother. I can imagine them having many conversations like this as they were growing up. It's not only funny; it's heartwarming too.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm glad the hair pulling was worth it this summer. The polls really help me pass through hellatus too. Thanks for your participation.
ReplyDeleteThe nominations are actually surprising me. I expected Mystery Spot to be in the top 2 nominations but it's currently tied at 5th. An episode I didn't think anyone really liked is in the contest with no problem. An early run comedy I thought would be a shoe-in struggled until the most recent nominations where it has really picked up. Two episodes I chose thinking they would have no prayer are doing surprisingly well, and an episode I can't stand that I thought for sure was going to get in only has 1 nomination.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a real eyeopener not just what people picked but also what is considered a comedy episode. I love all the variety. Things I love but wouldn't have considered have been nominated but there are only 2 that I'm not sure of where the comedy is coming from. All in all it is a very diverse list and I'm sure there will be lots of discussion when we start voting on it. Can't wait to see what the next 2 days of nominations will bring.
Until a rewatch, Slash Fiction and Death's Door are tied for me for best episode of season 7. They are so different and yet each packed a punch. The diner scene in Slash Fiction is worthy of best SPN scene status while Death's Door legitimately surprised me when we learned that Bobby killed his father. Both were outstanding.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, all of your comedy nominations are in the top 10. You should have fun voting in the head-to-head. :-)
You might be surprised at how the nominations are going. 3 of your picks are in the top 10. One of your picks is the biggest shocker of the nominations for me.
ReplyDeleteI think Mystery Spot is a perfect example of how broad a scope a comedy episode has in Supernatural. In many shows, an episode is either drama or comedy but in Supernatural it is not uncommon for it to start as one and change to another. I feel the same way about Changing Channels in that it started as one of the best comedies around but then turned into an important mytharc episode at the end. I love how SON always blurs the lines.
ReplyDeleteI think one of the biggest arguments of the comedy polls will be what makes an episode a comedy. There are several nominated because of one particularly funny scene in an otherwise non-comedic episode. A couple I think are nominated because they have some funny lines in it. This should be one of the more interesting polls to read the comments section on.
I thought the Melanie character was awesome too. And hey, since they are killing off everyone else there may be a chance that she will return. Of course, that also increases her chances of dying since recurring female characters don't do well on this show. :-) I enjoyed the Mentalists and in some seasons it would have gotten my vote. I think it is suffering from having exceptionally good competition this year. Like you said the beginning and ending episodes were beyond awesome and many in the middle were no slouches either.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about all the humor in Supernatural and I realized how much it influences my appreciation of other shows. I now find it very difficult to watch anything that's straight drama - anything I watch absolutely HAS TO have that same mix of drama and humor or I tend to find it too boring. Supernatural what have you done to me?? :D
ReplyDeleteBest of Season Seven:
ReplyDeleteMeet the New Boss
Hello, Cruel World
The Girl Next Door
The Mentalists (this season's one good self-contained episode)
Death's Door
Comedy picks:
Tall Tales
Bad Day at Black Rock
Changing Channels
Clap Your Hands If You Believe
The French Mistake
(I considered nominating "Bugs" in the comedy category but that would be too mean-spirited)
Even the thought that you considered it Bruce................... *shakes head in disgust* I dunno - what will we do with you?
ReplyDeleteI think Mystery Spot is different than the rest. Even ChCh - yes, there is an important mytharc scene at the end, but it's ONE SCENE. The drama starts about half an hour into the episode. Mystery Spot drops the comedy about 10 minutes earlier and IMO gets really, really dark with Dean dying and Sam spending half a year without him and then emotional with the hug at the end. ChCh doesn't have all these emotions. Of course, none of SPN's episodes has ever been comedy only, but there are mostly comedy episodes and then there is Mystery Spot, which is a category of its own for me.
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely going to be controversy when we get to voting, but hey, the more controversy, the more interesting discussions ;) anyways, I'm sticking with my opinion. I'm definitely voting for MS in ultimate episode polls, but as far as comedy is concerned, I'm all for Bad Day at Black Rock.
Well, when and episode is THAT bad it's usually pretty funny to watch. If you're in the right frame of mind, "Bugs" can be hilariously awful. It's like "Manimal" that way.
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manimal
Death's Door was amazing, but I kinda don't get all the love for the Bobby-centric episodes. Weekend at Bobby's has never been anywhere near my favourites and Death's Door is somewhere around number 4 of the season of me. Well, at least until I rewatch all those episodes again.
ReplyDeleteYou have now completely put my curiosity into overdrive! :-)
ReplyDeleteBest of Season 7
ReplyDeleteHello Cruel World
Meet The New Boss
Slash Fiction
Comedy picks
Bad Day At Black Rock
Tall Tales
Hell House
Ghost Facers
Monster Movie
Bugs was pretty laughable
ReplyDeleteI would never have considered Mystery Spot as a comedy episode, it has laughs thrown in as do nearly all SPN episodes but its drama at its best.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'd forgotten about Manimal. I see your point :D
ReplyDeleteBWAH!!! InstaDawn was quite funny, especially the looks of people's faces when they watch it the first time. Complete bafflement always produces great expressions.
ReplyDeleteAfter Supernatural I go into every show expecting snarky goodness. I'm always shocked and disappointed if after 42 minutes there is no snark.
ReplyDeleteHa, only chose episodes Hello Cruel World, Meet The New Boss and Slash Fiction. . .
ReplyDeletei agree with you about mystery spot. it is my fave episode ever but i never thought f it as a comedy. not that it doesn't make me laugh, because every episode makes me laugh at some point, but i never thought of it as an all round comedy episode. my fave comedy episode is also bad day at black rock.
ReplyDeletegah! that has just made me all the more curious! can't you give us at least one hint? i cant wait to start this competition. i cant believe new supernatural is almost back to! it seems to have gone so quickly
ReplyDeletePretty much the same as everyone else in the first poll - Meet the Boss, Hello, Cruel World, Slash Fiction, How to Win Friends and Influence People, Death's Door - 5 great episodes.
ReplyDeleteMy comedy choices were Yellow Fever (scared Dean and technically not part of the ep but Eye of the Tiger), Changing Channels, The French Mistake (love, love the 'acting' scene), Bad Day at Black Rock ("I'm Batman") and Tall Tales.
Best Supernatural Comedy Nominations :
ReplyDeletechanging channels
tall tales
monster at the end of the book
bad day at black rock
the french mistake
Forgot to comment here! My S7 choices were as follows: Meet the New Boss, Hello Cruel World, Slash Fiction and Death's Door. I felt bad about leaving out How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters, but I actually enjoyed Slash Fiction more (they were the two jostling for my final vote). Of the others, I really enjoyed Shut Up, Dr. Phil and The Mentalists, and I wouldn't have voted for Defending Your Life, The Girl Next Door or (especially) Season 7, Time For a Wedding even if I'd had the votes to do so.
ReplyDeleteMy five comedy choices were:
1. The French Mistake: if you don't know why this is my number one choice, then you haven't seen the episode. Hilarious from start to finish. Killing of 'Eric Kripke' western style was just the pièce de resistance! There are so many hidden moments and in-jokes in this episode, it's Supernatural-fan heaven.
2. Changing Channels: From the title sequence to Dean's rant about procedural cop shows, this is pure gold! The Japanese game show, the herpes advertisement, the Supernatural sitcom, the Grey's Anatomy take-off, car!Sam...there are so many funny moments in this episode I couldn't possibly list them all.
3. Tall Tales: Three words: Slow Dancing Aliens. That is all.
4. Monster Movie: "Is there...garlic on this pizza?" This was one of the best episodes of S4, and it was a nice comic interlude before things got seriously heavy!
5. Clap Your Hands if You Believe: Freaked out Dean seeing fairies everywhere was funny enough, but RoboSam really made this episode for me. Every time he opened his mouth, I cracked up.
As a side note, if I had remembered Bad Day at Black Rock while actually making these nominations, either Monster Movie or CYHiYB probably wouldn't have made the cut!
