  1. Not awesome, but really interesting, looking forward to more!
The cast is simply awesome. Had no idea Richard Kind and Kevin Dunn were in this, they were great. Dunn and his 3 degenerate gambler friends were quite interesting to watch and I have no idea what's next for them after winning the jackpot. Great to see Kerry Kondon again, haven't seen her since Rome. Hoffman had an awesome presence, but I enjoyed Farina's performance even more. And most importantly the scenes those two had together were absolutely brilliant!

The racing scenes were great, beautiful cinematography!
Was it just me or did the horses look extremely uncomfortable in the starting positions?

It was not a perfect pilot, many stories aren't really connected yet, but I'm pretty sure the rest of the season will be great, looking forward to the actual start of the show!

  2. All I can say is I'm confused - maybe it was the version I saw but half the audio was garbled or indistinguishable: lots of background noise or music. What I did hear I barely understood (I haven't had much to do with either horses or racing), and although the set, costuming and acting was great I really didn't connect to the characters. I voted OK, Dustin Hoffman alone brings that level of brilliance, and it is only a pilot - I'll watch the next but not hooked in yet.

  3. I agree on the audio, sometimes it was a bit hard to follow for me too.

  4. Decent but not great.

Not only did this pilot move at a snail's pace (except for the horses), throughout the hour I felt like I had walked in on a conversation that was two-thirds finished and I was struggling to play catch-up the entire time.

Unless you already know a little something about horse racing, especially track betting, before you sit down to watch (thankfully I did), you're going to miss out on a lot of the nuances in the dialogue.  You will be able to grasp the broad strokes of what is going on but you'll largely be left in the dark as to the intricacies of the plot.  Even I got lost in the dialogue two or three times during the hour.  There are some scenes of this pilot that make you feel like you needed to take prerequisite classes before you watched it.

On the upside, every one of the characters really stand out, the cast is fantastic across the board, the cinematography is gorgeous, the atmosphere created at the track is completely engrossing and authentic, and if the pacing and dialogue can be improved upon Luck will be a top-notch show.
