Surprisingly I really liked it. I felt so bad for the refrigerator repair guy. The hidden face effect is making less and less sense to me but...it's the buy required to watch the show, I guess. I won't ask questions.
I wasn't too impressed with the show to start with but it was good enough to check out again and see where it's planning to go. I like the fact that they haven't turned him into solo-cop. He has privileged information that allows him to ask better questions...or get more out of an interrogation as he did in this ep. But he's still part of a team. i love that. It's different.
The lead actor is still...not a stand out. I'm still more apt to be watching Russell Hornsby or Silas Weir Mitchell than David Giuntoli.
And the arc plot has nothing I'm interested in. So, far it's all set up I've seen before and I don't care. What this ep, in particular, managed to get me to do was to care about what was going on with the kid. I cared when he went off on the Pied Piper tantrum...I didn't want him to do anything stupid and wind up paying as much or more than the jerk responsible for the teacher's death.
Personally, I think this was their best ep so far.
I think this was the best episode so far too. I actually am interested in the myth arc, but so far the COTW has been fairly entertaining for me despite the lackluster lead actor.
Darque, are you more into this show than OUaT? I like this show too. But I am only give it the benefit of the doubt because I am looking at him like a male slayer, without all the snark and no Giles (or Willow but hey at least Monroe is kind of like Xander).
I'm far more into Grimm than Once. I think Once has terrible writing and VFX although I do like the overall story arc ....I think. Grimm has better VFX and better writing. By "better" I mean more consistent and more grounded in "Reality". The characters are all more realistic and less tools for the story like OUaT to me.
That said, I'm not quite sold on Grimm yet either. Boring lead and they have not gotten into the overall myth arc enough for my taste just yet. If they get more into the myth arc then more of the characters will have purpose. Right now it's a fairly typical procedural with fairy tales. That does not do it for me I guess.
I love a good procedural, so that's why I like Grimm and you know that shows like this take awhile to get into the swing of things(think back to SPN and how all of the fandom now just yearns for a good salt and burn every once and again) so COTW is going to be standard fare for at least another 3-6 episodes but they are laying some bread crumbs out (the hexenbeast making moves on Hank). I watched enough Buffy and Angel to know not expect much in the VFX department, it's like a trademark or something
Yeah, he is the big bad, it reminded me of a role play game about vampires that I use to play, where there was a Prince of the city and everyone had to go through him to do what they needed/wanted, my theory is he a Grimm gone bad and the hexenbeast law firm is very reminiscent of Wolfram&Hart from the Buffyverse. BTW are you state side or across the pond?
So true about VFX... They do an adequate job that looks okay most of the time and is just silly at other times. So far so good on Grimm though. I think the actual makeup is pretty good honestly. The transitions between human andcreature can be a little tiresome though. It's their gimmick I understand it. It just does not do the make up justice to see a split second of it then warp back to human. Maybe if I saw the makeup a lot more I'd be complaining though. XD Who knows.
I should not make fun of procedurals. I can like a good procedural a lot honestly. It just tops being interesting usually a year into the series for me. Very rare I watch a procedural show for more than 3 years. I think the original CSI is one... Criminal Mindstoo, but this year has been bad for CM. I stopped watching for now.
Well, you need to be watching CM. I have stopped watching SVU and CSI and now I don't even have Prime Suspect, so I guess that was initial reason for latching on to Grimm, one thing that did bother me this episode was that the wolf that got killed couldn't tell he was a Grimm but his sister could
Ha! I thought that was odd too. I just chalked it up to Brad Henke's character being such a dimwit or stoner that he was not aware of anything really....
I will probably catch up on CM, but the start of the season has been like an apology to fans for last season. One i don;t think was needed or deserved I guess.
More about the team, more about their personal lives etc. I watch for the criminals and there have been some really boring unsubs this season.. .even in the rare case an episode is completely about the unsub and not some ode to the team as the second a-story. XD
Whoops!! It was strange having two new episodes this week...hey, you remember those promo pictures... the one with the dude in the tub looked so sinister and it turned out to be nothing much, that kind of pissed me off too
Decent but nothing spectacular. Honestly, the best elements of this episode were the subplots. The refrigerator repair man freaking out and the lawyer cozying up to Hank were much more intriguing than the main story.
Oh, by the way... Bitsie Tulloch's character needs something to do. If she's going to be a series regular, she should really have something of her own going on, plot-wise, instead of just functioning as Nick's wife.

All the rats following the guy around was the coolest thing I've seen in a while. That was neat vfx.
ReplyDeleteNot a bad episode all in all.
ReplyDeletei am agree was awesome, very fun.

ReplyDeleteGreat episode, I just love this show ;)

The Captain is the big bad I think, but they have only touched on it... by him telling the Reaper he should know who to kneel to etc..
ReplyDeleteHe seems to be the region's King or Sheriff or some ruling figure...
