KING Raids Global Television!

•Season One Encore of Canadian Original Police Drama KING
To Air on Global in Advance of Season Two Premiere on Showcase
Detective Sergeant, Jessica King and her major crimes task force kick-start the New Year on Global Television. Viewers can catch up on season one of the Canadian police drama, KING, Fridays at 10pm ET beginning January 6 on Global in advance of the much-anticipated Showcase season two premiere on February 29 at 9pm ET/PT.

In season one, “Detective Sergeant Derek Spears” (Alan Van Sprang; The Tudors, Cra$h & Burn) has a public, televised meltdown, and “Jessica King” (Amy Price- Francis; The Cleaner, 24, Grey’s Anatomy) is called upon to take leadership of the Major Crimes Task Force – a police squad that is parachuted in to take over cases in crisis. King has survived eight years in Homicide, two marriages and multiple stab wounds. But leading the M.C.T.F. has its consequences and Jess struggled to find a balance between solving cases and family plans.

Season one also features leads Gabriel Hogan (Heartland, The Kennedys) as King’s husband “Danny Sless” and Tony Nardi (Cra$h & Burn) as Chief of Police “Peter Graci.”

Joining returning leads Price-Francis, Van Sprang, Hogan and Nardi in season two is an exciting new cast featuring Rossif Sutherland (ER, The Con Artist), Karen Robinson (Lars and the Real Girl) and Romina D’Ugo (Degrassi Goes Hollywood, Turn the Beat Around).

Looking ahead to season two on Showcase, King must meet the challenge of each case while juggling her pregnancy, her husband’s gambling and the changing dynamics of her team. She is firmly in control of the M.C.T.F. and rebuilding the team according to her style and her needs. They include “Martin Carr” (Sutherland), a hot shot from the Spin Unit who challenges King on personal and professional levels; “Ingrid Evans” (Robinson), one of Organized Crime’s most experienced players whose sarcastic wit and sense of humour can only be matched by King and “Alessandra Taylor” (D’Ugo), Danny’s young new partner. These new team members will inevitably shake things up and Spears will have to adjust if he wants to stay relevant.

King is developed by Indian Grove Productions in association with Shaw Media. Executive Producers and series creators are Bernard Zukerman and Greg Spottiswood.

  1. Interesting to air it on Global  before Season 2 airs. Kind of nice!

I always forget what channels are broadcast and which are cable in Canada. CBC, CTV and Global are broadcast and The Movie Network and Showcase are premium cable? I think I've seen a few other channels over the  years in random files but mostly CBC, CTV and Showcase I think...

  2. yeah global and CTV and big networks (CBC is sort of a smaller CW like network, but it has more canadian shows than the big ones) Showcase is cable (sister to global)

  4. CBC is Canada's national public television broadcaster. It's older than

Private broadcasters and one-time over the air channels like CTV, CityTV, OMNI and Global are owned by one of the three media giants Bell, Rogers and Shaw.
They own the specialty channels also on cable.
Bell who owns CTV and CTV2 also owns Space, Comedy, MTV, Bravo, and Discovery
Rogers who owns CityTV and OMNI also owns OLN
Shaw who owns Global also owns Showcase, Food Network HGTV and History.

Superstation CHCH is the most like CW.

  5. Tariqq, I caught this last night and was going to send it to you but I didn't find any contact info.

    Anyway, season two of King:
Even though I'm not happy that the writers kept the pregnancy or the loser husband, I'm going to check this out again.  I'm worried that the large cast additions will change the show a bit too much though.  I hope I'm wrong.
