HBO has renewed its low-rated but critically applauded comedy "Enlightened" while canceling half-hour laffers "Hung," "How to Make It in America" and "Bored to Death."
The fate of the four comedies has weighed heavily on programming president Michael Lombardo. He, along with HBO co-president Richard Plepler, made the choice to ax the three shows, a rare housecleaning move for the payer cabler, in order to create more room on Sunday nights for a slew of incoming series the pay cabler has set to debut in 2012.

WTF HBO?
ReplyDeleteI never watched any of these shows but I know people who really liked them, I guess they never got the same buzz as other HBO/Cable shows and never had amazing ratings. Shame though,
ReplyDeleteWHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR LIFE HBO
ReplyDeleteThis is ridiculously stupid.
RIP Bored to Death (and to an extent the other two) RIP
A lot of axing at once! Looks like HBO has gone merciless (but then again they did renew "Enlightened"). I must say I'm quite surprise at all three of these being goners.
ReplyDeleteWTF? They cancel Bored to Death and renew Enlightened? That's really stupid...
ReplyDeleteSO fucking sad right now. Bored to Death is a favorite of mine. SO SO SO SO SAD!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am gutted over losing Bored to Death right now.
ReplyDeleteWell that's a shocker... I hope they didn't get too proud of True Blood and Game of Thrones and started to count on ratings.
ReplyDeleteOH PUTAIN ! BANDE D'ENCULÉS !
ReplyDeleteThis can't be happening. Oh fuck you, HBO, you made me very sad.
I really liked season 3 of Hung (by far the best season of the show) and I'm a huge fan of Bored to Death (I don't really care about HTMIIA, season 2 was as uninteresting as season 1).
I'm glad they renewed Enlightened but not if it's at Bored to Death or Hung's expence.
Don't really understand why cancel all three of them. This is not HBO style.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched Hung. And I've been trying to make it through the first season of HTMIIA for over over a year, No joke. And I think I've watched three eps of it. But Bored to Death?! I am so sad. It had climbed up to be a top 10 show for me. So clever and witty and funny. It made me laugh out loud. I am so sad to lose it. SO SAD.
ReplyDeleteI know, I'm so gutted, I like Enlightened but compared to Bored to Death I'm not bothered about it at all.
ReplyDeleteWow this is a bit surprising...Hung just had their best season and Bored to Death is great...SMH
ReplyDeleteYES. SMH indeed! Bored to Death gets better every season and has become a top 10 show for me. I have so much love it. I am little devastated by this news.
ReplyDeleteIt is so odd. They must have a block of half hour shows in the pipe that I am unaware of.
ReplyDeleteIronically, I actually think that Enlightened would fit perfectly with the April block of Veep and Girls, but I guess this will never happen
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised about How To Make It or Bored To Death. The ratings were dismal for both. I'm a little surprised about Hung.
ReplyDeletereally sad :(
ReplyDeleteI am glad about Hung but sad about How To Make It, I guess that's why Ted got a new gig
ReplyDeleteLiking and +1'ing sound WAY too positive for an article announcing that Bored To Death has been cancelled. This is a dark day.
ReplyDeleteIt's just to spread the news. Doesn't mean we like it. :/
ReplyDeleteNo more Bored to Death?! :'(
ReplyDeleteWOW that came out of left field, and by the other reactions it was unexpected..To bad :(
ReplyDeleteAnother one bites the dust.
ReplyDelete*three
ReplyDeleteThis is idiotically stupid. You don't go and cancel 3 shows at once, and renew something that no one is watching. Was excited that Isla Fisher might be joined Bored to Death :(
ReplyDeletei stand corrected by bad Another 3 bites the dust!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, did not see that coming at all. HBO hasn't been caring a lot about ratings recently so I wasn't too concerned for those shows, but I'm especially sad for Bored to Death and How to Make It in America.
ReplyDeleteBored to Death was such a funny and unique show and How to Make It while not being must-see television was always enjoyable. Haven't watched Hung for a while, but it was a solid show. The only one of those 4 that I did not enjoyed was Enlightened and this got renewed... Honestly, I'm a bit pissed right now.
I haven't seen Hung or Enlightened, but tried both Bored to Death (which pretty much did bore me to death) and How to Make it in America, which again I couldn't get in to at all. Feel bad for those people who did follow those shows though.
